The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Stretching and leaning back in her chair, she was finally with scanner duty for the evening. Good god, how could sitting and listening to the police be so tiring. She could easily believe it was boring, and it frequently was, but how could she be exhausted as well. It boggled her mind.
Of course what was needed right now was some good old fashioned animal therapy. She'd done her duties for the day, Becca couldn't get grumpy with her for hogging Bijou now. All she had to do was find the little rascal, preferable before Astrid came back and the precious ball of fluff attached itself to her owner. The kitty had learned early that playing favourites with the family that fed her was a smart move.
Doing a complete lap of the base and ending up back in the scanner room, because of course Bijou had made her way in while Cait was looking for her, she scooped up the kitten for a much needed hug, she started to wonder how she was going to spend the next couple of hours before her job. Its not like there was anyone she could hang out with, thanks to the only other person present being stuck on the scanner. Unless, wasn't Mal free now?
Hunting around for wherever Becca had put his work hours for the week and seeing he was coming off shift.... right now!
Hey Mal! It's Cait from upstairs. I know we've not talked much but fancy hanging out upstairs?
Artair appreciated being able to say his piece without more questions. He wasn't really ready to face the answers right now and being able to just give as much information as he was comfortable with made him feel better. Devon was also obviously a nice guy, paying attention to the things he was saying and taking his experiences seriously. Most people seemed too eager to pry when it came to others issues.
Idly drinking as his listened, he wasn't that surprised to hear Devon was in a field like psychology. It took a certain kind of person to want to help other people and from what he could gather, his drinking companion was just that sort. He couldn't help but smile at the similarities in their experiences. Maybe it was sad that it took pain to motivate people to kindness or maybe those were just the ones better able to understand it and help stopping it happening to others. As the number of points in their lives that turned out the same, he couldn't stop his grin from widening. Half a world away from home and he meets the guy best equipped to understand him.
Raising his own glass at the toast and nodding, he silently echoed the sentiment and let Devon continue. That explained the recognition though, he'd seen posters about Haddens Haven dotted about, but what did he been he bought an island? How much money did the guy have? Apparently enough to set up more than one treatment centre and a charitable organisation. Christ that was a fair amount of not just money but clout in the local community. That was impressive, a little scary too.
"Haven't seen much about Haven around, but considering how busy I've been with uni, that's not surprising. If I've not got my head in a book it's a rare moment." That or he was hungover, but that hardly needed mentioning right now. "Serena mentioned it but I wasn't in the best state to inquire more at the time. Might be a bit laughable but she was kind of the first other mutant I've actually met and talked to. Coming from such a small and isolated place, it wasn't something I advertised about myself." Attitudes back home were, while not really right wing, they were somewhat conservative.
"Mind telling me more? Meeting the leader of an organisation tends to make you just a wee pit curious about it."

So the lad was called Alex. Good name, strong name. "Nice to meet you too, know try not to move move around too much, won't take long." Names were pretty important to him. Sure, they might not define who you were but it was a part of what you were, your heritage and history. Its why he valued his own name so much.
If he wasn't complaining about anything particularly bad, chances are he was fine for now. As long as he got a proper check out by a doctor, preferably as soon as they'd gotten away from here, that would suit Artair fine. When he mentioned something about better than a doctor his interest was peeked. This he had to see, if only to make sure no one was scamming the poor kid and putting him in even more danger. "No lad, can't have you collapsing somewhere being on my conscience. That and those thugs might make another appearance. I'll get you to your friend."
Artair failed to mention how suspicious he was that Alex was going to actually get seen to. From personal experience he knew how much teenage boss loathed being told what to do, or being pressure to go somewhere.
Pulling out his phone and finding one of the taxi apps he'd been convinced into using, he turned to Alex. "What's the address, I can get a cab to pick us up right on the street." Who knows, he might even recognise the place, if it was one of the nicer treatment centres around. More interestingly, maybe the lad knew someone with a healing mutation.

Stretching and marveling at the complete lack of pain, his nerdier side started to peek back through, now that he wasn't struggling for breath. If he didn't at least try to appease it, it would bug for so long. "So, Doc, how is it you go about healing, if you don't mind me asking?" There was also the small bit of professional curiosity. Imagine being able to replicate this kind of treatment, make it easily available for so many people.
Artair could certainly see why Serena had a lot of respect for the guy. He just gave of the feeling that he was a genuinely nice person. That was rare enough to find these days. His gently chiding didn't hurt matters and helped put the Scot at ease with the situation.
Oh god, he hadn't even realised the implication of his joke until Serena responded. Damn puns wouldn't stop getting into his head recently. "Would you believe me if I said that wasn't intentional?" At times it felt like he was going out of his way to act like an eejit.
Caution sounded wonderful, but if his damn conscience was going to keep speaking up, he had a sinking feeling he was going to be getting into plenty of situations like this again. Training, however, sounded like a very good idea.
"Getting some more practice in couldn't hurt, especially if things like this keep happening. You mentioned something about being able to help me set that up earlier." After today, he couldn't afford to refuse that kind of help.

Oh my god, oh my god, they were so fluffy! With Astrids' reassurance that she wasn't about to cause damage, all sense of holding back was gone. Gently stroking the feathers and marveling at the feel of them she started drifting off into a dreamlike state. They were just so soft!
It was such a strange feeling. In her mind it made logical sense that they felt like feathers, they even looked like feathers, but it was just so odd to be seeing and feeling them coming out of someones back. Being this up close to them, she couldn't help but marvel at how such fine things could make a person fly. They could even turn into crystal! That was so cool.
So deep in her own little word, Cait hadn't even noticed Astrid going through the music she'd brought, so when the young woman suddenly turned around, she got quite a shock. "Hmm, what sorry?" Taking the sheet being offered to her, her brain started to function again. "Oh, yes of course we can. It's a lovely piece, perfect for the two of us to play."
It was fascinating to see the choices Astrid made in terms of music. If Cait was guessing right, she was taking into consideration not just the song itself, but how it would sound when played with someone else. She could only imagine how popular a band with a literal angel on a violin would be.
Maybe with the right dress, and some well placed lighting, she could dominate an entire music hall. She was certainly skilled enough and would only get better with time. It may be hard to bring up with Becca, but it might be worth asking about considering such things for Astrid's future.
That very awkward conversation could wait though, they had some more playing to do. Picking her violin back up, she set the music onto the stand and shook the last remnants of fluffiness from her head. "Well then, shall we continue?"

As the door opened she could hear the jingle of the door's bell, along with some lighter sounds a little bit further in. It was rather charming, especially when mixed with lovely smelling incense coming from the shop. Stepping in and spotting a woman already there to greet her, she smiled warmly and started with "Good afternoon miss, how are you?" It never hurt to start politely, she'd always thought as much. That and her parents had been very sure to drill good manners into her from a young age. Something about her was ringing a bell in Cait's head but surely she would remember someone so uniquely dressed. The dress the woman was sporting was beautiful, so feminine and graceful. God she sometimes wished she felt comfortable enough to wear those kinds of clothes.
"I noticed your shop here while having some food and I just had to check it out. It's always a pleasure to browse stores like this." She spoke with complete sincerity. While she might be a sceptic, seeing other peoples beliefs and how genuine they were about them was always a pleasure and when it came to paganism, it was certainly one of the more peaceful beliefs. "I was also wondering if you had any books on Scottish Gaelic stories. I'm always on the look out for more to add to the collection."
Taking a little look around the room while she could, she saw some of the usual things these kinds of stores sold, along with some more unique items, books and crystals of all kinds. What was surprising was the collection of fliers and pamphlets about mutant rights and various organisations which helped people less fortunate than she was. Getting a good look at the woman who had greeted her, she suddenly realised why the bell had gone off in her head. Becca had shown them images of her as a person of interest. She was well known in the city for promoting human-mutant relations. The boss had always said they'd need to gauge if she was genuine, if they got the free time to do so.
Well, now she had the perfect excuse to spend some timing having a conversation with a pleasant young woman. She might even get some bonus points with the big boss lady. "I'm so sorry, I didn't give my name." Letter her smile go into full on grin mode, she added "I'm Catriona, Cait for short."

She was right, plenty of time to leer at the pictures later. There was a job to do right now. Frantically checking her camera options and trying to find where to turn off the flash, by some miracle she managed without alerting their marks.
Snapping as many pictures from as many angles as she thought she could get away with, she hadn't been paying attention to what they were saying. All she got was something about plans, the X-somethings and wait, what was that? One of them had mentioned something about a rat tail. That couldn't be right, could it? Caits' eyes widen as she started to process the implication.
I think they know we clocked them. They said something about a tail, or rat or something.
Oh god, had the guy known they were following all along? This was bad, really bad. If they started a fight with the wrong person, or got caught up in a situation that was above their heads and Becca would likely skin them alive. She shuddered to think what Combatant would do to them if they lost a fight after all the training she'd put in with them.
Oh god, oh god, oh god. They might know we were following him.

It was finally one of the rare days she had off from both work and her duties for the X-Men. Cait was free to do whatever she wanted, go wherever and just have fun. Of course, she had gotten bored within the first two hours, having already completed all the little tasks she needed to. She'd even gotten some instrument practice in and even that had failed to kill enough time. Since when had she become such a boring person that she couldn't entertain herself for one day, was she really that dependent on the others around her to have a good time?
Rather than mope, she decided it was time for a little bit of shopping, some fresh air and something greasy and unhealthy. That would drag her out of the slump she was in today. Gathering up her variously misplaced items and changing into something a bit less comfortable but a lot more confidence boosting, she headed out, ready for a nice peaceful day.
Her wanderings led her down to a pretty nice area, lots of small, independent shops and cafes, a good view. This had been a good idea. It was just what she needed right now. Spending some time browsing shops, getting a few odds and ends that she fancied and finding just the cutest top, her mood was already lifting. Now for some food, maybe a nice coffee and this day was going to be salvaged. Spying a lovely looking little cafe, with some seating outside, she ordered some a relatively healthy sounding sandwich along with the most sickly sweet coffee combination they offered and took them outside to enjoy in the sun.
As she ate, she let her eyes idly sweep the area, her training kicking in and trying to search the area for threats. Christ even on a day off, she couldn't get away from Becca's training. Shaking away the thoughts and mood, her eyes came to rest on one of those pagan stores that were littered about most cities. Cait always loved checking them out, seeing what strange and interesting things they sold. It was usually a fair bet they'd have some books are items relating to Gaelic tales, something she was always on the look out for. Growing up her dad had told her some of the old stories, but she always felt like she was missing a part of her history and had set out to collect as many books and stories she could.
Quickly finishing up her meal and popping her head in to thank the pleasant woman who had served her, she crossed the road towards the shops. It looked very nice from the outside, she could only imagine what the inside was like. Reaching out a hand, she started to push the door open.

He was glad she hadn't asked him to elaborate on his little freak out. It was still something he couldn't talk to anyone about, not even his family, let alone someone he'd met for the second time. Some things were just too personal to share. The joking help though, helped ease his mind about the whole thing. He wasn't quite ready to deal with his trauma, at least not yet.
Looking around at the place, he could believe the ones spreading the rumours had never set a foot on the mansion's grounds. Something about the place just felt, good. Like the place was radiating something unseeable, easing away his concerns. Sure, he was going to need time to gauge the place properly, but the first impression was good. The promise of instant healing and only a short walk din't exactly dampen his mood either. Pain was a pretty good motivator.
"By all means lass, lead the way. Getting this sorted sooner rather than later sounds perfect." A short journey later and he found himself seated a very nice doctors office with an older man giving him kind, but firm instructions. Artair was more than happy to comply though, rolling up his shirt far enough to give access to his injuries. "Cheers, sir. Can't tell you how much not having to deal with cracked ribs means to me."
The procedure was over and done with so quickly he didn't really have any time to examine it. The only thing he could make a guess about was it being some sort of psychic power, like his own. Well, maybe not quite like his own. "I would, but apparently my conscience got in the way of self preservation. Didn't quite expect that, I'll be honest." Quickly pulling his shirt down again, hoping his scars hadn't been too obvious, he tested his movement while the other two talked. He felt good, really good in fact. There was no way to tell he'd been thrown about like a rag doll by a metal-clad monster.
He didn't really want to interrupt the banter but he really needed to get out of here and find a bar. Today was very definitely an early drink day. "Is there anything else you're needing me for then? No forms to fill out or blood seals to complete?" What could he say, he was in a jokey mood right now. "Seriously though, thank you. The both of you. Don't know how I could begin to repay it."

At least Becca had been very diplomatic with her response. Choosing to take the offered shirt without comment, exchanging it for the more form fitting uniform. Well, this one fit a little tightly. That made her feel a little bit better, or it would of had she not then seen the boss already pulling on the other one and it as still just a bit too tight for her. Cait knew logically that she was good looking, even eye catching, but when she was surrounded by so many beautiful, well built women she couldn't help but be a little self concious. Christ at the rate she was growing, Astrid was going to over take her soon as well. It was all very unfair.
Pulling her hair into a tight, professional pony tail and grinning at the deadpan response from Becca, she pulled the truck back onto the road and carefully started off along the road. She wasn't exactly the most experienced driving and controlling a truck was a pain, but the road was pretty straight and the headlights were bright enough that she had no problem seeing the way.
Only a mile in and they were at the gates for the facility. Not that it meant they were close to their ultimate goal, the grounds of the place were huge. At least the guard was a guy. They were so easy to deal with, just a nice bright smile and some mostly innocent flirting and he was far to distracted to pay much attention to her ID. "Sure Miss Day, everything seems about right." All of her practice at picking up guys had somehow paid of in a mission. Raine would laugh so much when she got to tell her later. "Why thank you, always a pleasure to be able to get your last delivery done before the end of a shift. Can't wait to head into town and blow of some steam."
He spent all of two seconds talking to her companion in the passenger seat before sending them again on their way. Still a bit of drive left, then she could get out the ill fitting uniform and into her mission outfit. Now that was something she felt sexy in. A quick report from their guardian angel and a nudge from the boss and she managed to get the unwieldy beast she was driving behind the tree thicket before they were spotted. Smiling as Seraph got some motherly love over the radio, she opted to keep her mouth shut.
Cait generally stay off the comms on a mission unless she needed to report in, her accent was pretty recognisable and when she was excited or stress she would forget to hide it. That and their fearless leader was already stressed enough at the moment, worrying about the safety of her strays. She didn't want to add to right now.
Trusting Astrids directions they were soon rolling up to the lab they needed to. A few quick words from Impact, along with a very loaded look and a battle plan was formed. Who did she think she was talking to? The Scot was a born sneak, it's how she got onto the team after all. This was her element. Pulling out a matched pair of knives and giving the boss a confirming nod, the new voice in her ear made her visible jump in her seat. "Jesus Christ Doc, you nearly gave me a heart attack." Of course one of the even sneakier teammates had to chime in a ruin her self image.
"Heart conditions aside, I'm ready Impact." Switching into Gaelic she added "Good luck, let the clan watch over you." Yeah it was cheesy, but it something she always said before a mission. If there was ever a time they needed a little Gaelic magic, it was now.

He got a black eye just for some flirting? Guys had it so much harder, if they ran the risk of bodily harm every time they went out and tried it on. The worst experiences she'd ever had was spending a good half hour chatting up quite frankly the most beautiful guy she had ever seen, only for the guys boyfriend to arrive and them to start making out in front of her. That had been awkward. Cute, but still awkward. It was becoming a very annoying trend recently and was part of the reason she was interested to learn any other techniques she could when interacting with her own gender.
The other reason was more innocent. Combatant had opened up a little with her, told her some little details about her past. It might not have been much, but any little helped in forming a connection between them. Cait was under no illusions that she and Agnes would ever be close friends, but that didn't stop her at least trying to be more than just a team mate. Everyone in the X Men were important to the young Scot, yet her main way of showing that affection was a no go between them. So, here she was trying a different tack. Not that she was likely to give up finally getting one out of the grumpy ninja. She had her principles after all.
Back the main problem though. How the hell was she going to get away with causing this kind of damage. This was the quite obvious reason Becca was constantly reminding her to be careful with her power, making her promise to think of the consequences of throwing around razor sharp knives with her mind. Cait didn't like to hurt people and this aspect of her power genuinely scared her sometimes, its like it was designed to kill people. It wasn't helped her natural affinity with it were weapons well made for killing people. Too many people underestimated a rapiers' speed and deadly prowess and knives had stood the test of time when it came to combat.
Was Agnes trying to get hugged. Because she was so close to getting a hug right now. On top of all of her help today, all the progress she had allowed to happen and now? Now she was willing to get into another shouting match with the boss to protect her. "You do realise that the more you be nice to me, the more I want to hug you? Because I really want to hug you right now." The urge was very strong, nearly overwhelming, but she would hold it in, somehow. After this she was going to need a loooong session with Bijou to vent all her built up snuggle energy.
Holding up her hands to try to reassure the woman glaring at her she added "Don't worry though, I know how much it sucks for you when people do. I won't try to hug you without permission, as much as it will kill me inside." OK maybe she hadn't needed to add the last little bit, but maybe if the woman would relent at some point if she knew how much hugs meant to her.
"I appreciate the offer, and as much fun as your last shouting match with the boss was, I should probably face the music myself. It'd be the responsible thing to do after all." No point missing out on the rest of her training though, even if she was going to get the mother of all lectures afterwords. "God I'm starting to sound like an adult. Something's very wrong with that."
Power practice was probably off the cards for now, so time for some physical exercise. Grabbing a pair of practice knives, she started to set up one of the very battered dummies they had left. This particular one she had affectionately called David, after an ex. She had gotten a large amount of anger out on the poor piece of equipment and the nickname had kind of just stuck in her head. Dropping into a ready stance, she set too going through the various forms Becca, and the currently present grump, had drilled into her.

Yeah more people could do with helping. How far had the lad been running before someone had stepped in. It made him sick to think how passive people were to others in distress. He just did not understand that mindset.
The kid definitely looked bad, but thankfully he was aware enough to let the Scot examine him. That bode well, chances are he didn't have a concussion but it needed to be checked anyway. "Good, mostly just want to make sure you don't have a bad concussion or internal bleeding." Gently checking the lads nose, he confirmed it was broken. Damn those were always nasty to fix. "Names Artair by the way, nice to meet you. What do I call you then, lad?" Lowering his phones brightness he held it up. "I know it probably hurts but focus on the light, won't take long."
Well, the lad was tough at least. He might have a broken nose and more bruises than he could count, but he wasn't concussed. Must have protected his head when he went down. Smart kid. "Any places on your body feeling numb or have a stabbing pain?"
Having finished the check ups his instructors had drilled into him, he could at least say the young man opposite him didn't need an ambulance at least. "Good news is I don't need to ring 911, you won't go down any time soon. But you will need to go to the hospital, sooner rather than later."
They did at least have to time to sit and wait a few minutes, let whoever those thugs were to get a bit of distance. Wouldn't do to set off to the hospital and run into them there. What was worrying was how calm the person next to him was. He was young, but he must have been in some bad situations if he could keep his cool in this kind of stress.
