The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

"You get to play festivals, that awesome!" She hadn't really managed to get into the local festival scene herself, thanks to both her jobs. Some things she had to sacrifice to be able to live her double life. "And you dance? That must be so much fun." Her own dancing skills were, lacking, to say the least. Most of what she did do was that weird dancing violinists did while they played.
Her grin just widened at Ambrosia's question. It wasn't just possible, but Cait was living proof that it worked. Pondering if she had any useful numbers for the woman, she might have just known a few that would be interest, it couldn't hurt to ask.
"Of course I'd love to play some music with you at some point, I'll never say no to more chances to play with enthusiastic people." Pulling out a small notepad that she always carried with her, she quickly wrote down her number and email address. "These are usually the best bets for getting a hold of me."
"As far as playing music for a living, if you wanted, I could give you a couple of numbers of people I know who are looking for players. I can't promise anything but it couldn't hurt."

Half out of self interest, half professional curiosity, he was currently head deep in the psychics section of the textbook. He had hoped there would be some useful categorises he could refer to, but this particular book was more focused on physical mutations themselves, and the effects on the body. Just starting on the third autopsy report from some poor sod who had overused their power, he was interrupted by someone tapping the table in front of him.
Glancing up he was confronted by a fairly tall figure, pretty well dressed and pretty obviously a mutant. They were, well like a giant shrimp of some kind. It was pretty damn amazing, he could only imagine how their mutation worked.
"Hmm, what?" Shaking away his inner nerd, he took in what had been said. "Sorry, I was away with the faeries there." He hadn't exactly been here often but he couldn't really fault the service. "It's been pretty good, certainly don't have any complaints." If anything his last experience with the staff here had been great. The poor guy behind the bar had easily dealt with an irate Scotsman who's drink had been stolen.
Glancing them up and down, he couldn't believe he'd missed the name tag before, it was pretty obvious. Jacquelyn huh? Nice name, old french if he was remembering right. Her being the manager explained the inquiry and her very nice clothes. Made him look a little shabby in comparison, but Devon had given him access to a well stocked bar and he wasn't letting things like that stop him.
"Nice to meet you Miss Dyer," he said standing up and offering a hand, "I'm Artair Hawke." He might be a grumpy northerner, but his dad had drilled good manners into him. 'Manners maketh the man', as he was so fond of saying. "Devon invited me hear as part of Haven, and I wasn't going to say no to good scotch. Great selection by the way."

Cait was so glad she'd opted for a nice pair of jeans and a light blouse, even inside and with the AC on it was warm. The studio lights did not help matters either.
She was almost scared no one was going to take her up on her offer, leave her stranded up their on on her own but someone out there was up for a good time. Smiling at her new friend coming onto the raised area, she offered a hand. "I'm Cait, great to meet you." Whoever her singing saviour was, damn she could pull off a dress. Sometimes she really wished she was comfortable wearing those kind of clothes, they just looked so good. "As for the song, how does this look," she said pointing at Hakuna Matata.
The mood called for something really lively and annoyingly, a lot of the really good duets were slower love song. Hopefully some Lion King would really get the mood just right. It had gotten better, but it needed the right push to get everyone really excited. Yeah, she might not be a singer, but she in her element performing, reading a crowd and nudging the tone down the right path.
"If there's anything you'd prefer though, I'm more than game. I'm just here to have fun."
With Rianne closer now, and not behind the bright lights, she recognised her from earlier. The woman had a very good voice, definitely better than her own. This was going to be so much fun!

Yeah, it probably had been. Today hadn't been his finest hour but the shield had made a certain amount of twisted sense at the time. He couldn't cut the b----- thing and its armour had been some weird liquid metal, it would easily absorb shocks.
That was incredible, he could only imagine the kind of applications that would have in medicine if they ever figured out the genetic component to mutations. "That pretty damn impressive, and a lot more selfless than most would be." They were struggling as is with donations of all kinds so he was well aware of how commonly it was for people to do that kind of thing. Usually it took a tragedy for them to actually get the blood they needed in hospitals.
He kept his face neutral as she spoke, letting her say her piece. She may have good points, but he didn't have to like them, or necessarily take them under advisement. Artair had good reason to despise the police force as a whole, and even if his job demanded it, he wouldn't have to respect them. One thing he did pick up on was her own distaste for them, she must have a history with them. His dislike was systematic, hers sounded personal.
Sighing, he didn't really thing he could explain his issues with them to her. "Serena, I don't have issues with individuals who work for the police. But I cannae just ignore their crimes. And I do mean crimes, lass. Some things are unforgivable." Thanks to them, and the government that ran them, his culture had nearly been destroyed. That couldn't be glossed over.
"I get your point. I can't make promises for the future, or that I would call them on more minor issues, but I will try. That's the most I can do right now."

"I think it was more them being worried about me, than them not wanting to be supportive." It had taken some time for them to come around, but now they were pretty on board with her choice. It helped that she was pulling enough work to be comfortable money wise and have 'spare time'.
He sang! Oh this was so great, he was coming to karaoke with them, as soon as she could convince Becca for a work outing. "You do realise now that you've said that, you've signed up for so many open mic nights?"
Damnit, he'd picked up on the subtext. She'd been looking forward to having a little bit of fun with him, harmless of course. Pouting and pretending to be upset, "Of well if you're going to be a party pooper." Scattering the sword she curled back into the chair, fixing her attention on the cat asleep on her lap.
Bursting out laughing, she might have loved that nickname just a little bit. It trumped her other one by a mile. "Aww don't worry, a lot of men have similar problems, from time to time," she added after her fit of giggles, letting her voice carry her joking tone.
"If you don't feel comfortable, you don't need to tell me. I'm just happy to share with someone so fun around here." Leaning in and whispering conspiratorially, "I don't know if you've noticed but some of my team mates are on the grumpy side of the force."

Well, if that scandal was why he was here, she wasn't going to be unhappy about. After all, she now had a new friend, someone else to add to the hug book. But what did he mean bigger stuff? Had he had a rough time as a child? She didn't have much experience with that herself, but she was aware at how much it could hurt later in life. Her friends in the base were very good examples.
"I wouldn't know much about the differences personally, but dad has lamented it enough that I can guess it's not...amazing." Her parents had high hopes for her going to university while she was growing up, but when she'd hit high school, nothing really attracted her attention, not as much as music still did.
"I wish I could say he was thrilled when I told him I would be playing in a band for a living." She still did love him though, even if he was as stubborn as a mule.
Letting out a small laugh at his reaction, she sent it spinning lazily in the air for added drama. Her weapons had always looked odd to her, like some half drawn picture given life. "You can hold it if you want, you'd be surprised by the weight of it." Giving him a cheeky, sidelong grin she added, "But don't worry, I'm sure a big, strong man like you can handle it."
Wait, was he a mutant too? Oh. My. God. That was amazing. Not only was her newest friend funny and, lets be honest, cute, he also had his own cool power. "Ooo, do tell, I showed you mine after all."

Cait grinned at Amrosia's enthusiasm, it was just so infectious. "We generally play rock and pop music when we're in bars and such, stuff that puts people in a good mood. Although we have been hired a couple of times for what I really love playing. Some Irish bars and such look for some old world music so I get to play the Scottish folk music." That was her real love. She even had a winged companion to play it with now.
"Most nights actually, I rarely have the day off like today. We do well enough that I we can support ourselves so we must be doing something right." Much the her parent chagrin she had made it work, through sheer willpower and overwhelming optimism.
"That's so cool, it's really weird the coincidences you come across." She had been running into them more and more nowadays. "Do you get to play them in public at all?" Cait would so love to see that, she could only imagine the kind of music she'd play.
Now that she thought about, it was probably time that she picked up another instrument, or finally bit the bullet and actually learned how to sing. It would never hurt to have more flexibility in her repertoire.

His work sounded fascinating. Too many people neglected mental healthcare when trying to help someone. It was just as vital as treating the body and an organisations dedicated to both parts of a person was good in his books. It sometimes got to easy to ignore people as people in healthcare, often being reduced as simply a condition to treat and send on their way.
Artair was more interested in Haven, however. A charitable organisation placed to not only help mutants, but offering educational programs about them as well. Those were the big thing. There were many groups campaigning for equal rights, but many had little direction and did little to help the communities they advocated for. A group that actually put it's money into not just the political side, but the real stuff, the kind of things that made a big difference in peoples day to day lives , that he could respect.
He did have to smile at Devon getting a little embarrassed over talking about it but he did come across as earnest. That was the big thing to Artair and if he could help protect people, people like Sarah, he was in.
"If you keep working for that, working for real equality, to help people who've slipped through the cracks, I can get behind that. I know how much you offered that family, how much it's going to mean to them. I also know how many more get hurt because others hide behind the law." The government protect far too many bigots who's actions harmed countless people. Looking him in the eyes, he continued with "If you need any help with things like what happened today, you've got my number."
"But I will be blunt Devon and I don't do orders," he said, with a pointed look. It might come across as rude, but having cards on the table reduced future misunderstandings.

Interesting, it was psychic rather than biological. Those were always harder to classify and learn about and yet they could do some really amazing things. But what did he mean he could see how the injury happened? Had he gotten a first hand account of his rag dolling? "Wait, you see how the injury happened? That's, mildly embarrassing. I don't mean to sound ungrateful, but it's never fun having an audience when you're getting your a--- kicked."
Well, at least he wasn't the only idiot, most of the time. His ears did perk up at her mention of donations. Considering her powers, did she replenish blood quicker than normal? That was, amazing. He was in the rabbit whole firmly now, might as well ask. Worst she could do was not answer. "Donate? You do that often lass?"
He really did try to not laugh at the suggestion, but he was pretty tired after the days events. Chances are she wasn't quite aware of his thoughts on the cops, or police in general. Or government. Artair was hardly the biggest fan of those kind of organisations and he had fair reason to dislike them. They hadn't treated his people well over the years.
"Look, I can't really promise that's ever going to be my first reaction. I'm not not a huge fan of them at the best of times." He was also well aware of the bystander effect, but he wasn't going to let it stop him from acting, even when others wouldn't.

Sighing and checking the clock on her phone, it looked like her friends had flaked out on her. Again. She had just wanted to relax, let her hair down and sing some cheesy songs. She rarely had evenings off these days and it had been one of only ones they had all been able to meet up and have fun like the old times. Have a few drinks, sing some songs and catch up. It had been way too long as well.
So here she was, slowly drinking her second beer and giving the occasional bar creep the 'not in the mood' look, she was seriously considering going home. Maybe tonight wasn't meant to be after all, but she wasn't about to leave without getting at least a couple of songs out.
After getting some singing in, and another beer or two down, her mood had improved massively, and she was more than up for a good night. Even the clientele was starting to look like more fun.
Downing her last beer and heading back up for her turn, it seemed about time for a duet. Oh they even had Disneysongs two people could sing. That would be so cool! Turning towards the crowd she asked "Anyone out there fancy a duo? Come on, its time to really get this party going." Really? No one? "There must be someone out there brave enough for little old me."

As soon as he stood up, she jumped at the chance to coax Bijou back across to her. She was just too cute, playing with her fingers and nibbling at them like little kitties did. It just melted away any stress she had left.
Smiling as he started to enthuse over language, she could well understand the joy he got from that kind of personal research. Languages were so cool when you got into the nitty gritty of how they formed, she'd always believed. It always helped that she seemed to have a fair affinity with learning them, probably thanks to being raised bilingual. Laughing lightly at his comment, she thought it was cute how nerdy he got over it. "Don't worry, I completely agree with how fascinating they get, especially when you see the differences between the Latin and Germanic bases." With how weird English was, it was even cooler to ferret out its strange roots.
Idly entertaining the increasing sleepy cat, she listened attentively to his explanation. She loved animals as much as anyone but threatening a family over a scandal was not only ridiculous, it solved nothing and painted your genuine efforts as crazy as well. Interesting how sure he was over his mothers knowledge of the incident, the fact that he didn't just believe her, he knew she was truthful.
"Wow, that does sound like it would be a tough time. I can't believe people can take those things so far. But thanks for sharing, that was a lot more personal than my secret was." She wasn't about to one up someone for secrets, but she did feel like she should share something more personal about herself.
"Guess it's my turn again, let's see," pausing, she realised what would be perfect and clapped her hands together excitedly. "My power. Have you ever seen it? I can make things, weapons actually. All with my mind and I can move them about too!" Holding out her hand, she focused on an old favourite, and pulled it into the world. Hanging in air stood the glistening, white outline of her rapier.

Her blush deepening she answered a bit more firmly. "I am not going to answer that question Mal. Some things are too embarrassing." So she might have had a little bit of an obsession Combatant for a while. Cait just really wanted that hug and she wasn't about to let 'logic' or 'reason' stop her.
It did not help that her luck with men was pretty bad right now. They had either been taken, or gay. Or both. It was a somewhat frustrating trend right now.
"Yeah, its sounds are a little bit weird. Trust me though, reading it is worse," pausing she did have to give it credit for not being the worst one, "then again Welsh is a thing...." That had been an adventure, when she had for some reason, decided to try to learn it. Christ it was like someone had literally planted a fantasy language into the real world.
His admission did peek her interest. What kind of research scandal? What exactly was a research scandal? SHe really should have paid more attention in class when it came to that stuff.
"If you're OK with me asking, what happened?" she asked gently.

"Awww, I'm sure they are sincere though. Hard to lie when you've got that many pain killers in your system." She was sure he was joking a little. He was a good looking guy, had a great job and on top of that, was really nice. All he needed was the right wing-woman. Maybe a full day off too. That would be so much fun, if she could grab Raine and cajole her into it, it'd be an amazing night out.
Rather than open up that can of worms she just blushed slightly and laughed it off. When she'd joined she might have had a small crush on one or two members, but she'd quickly learnt that she would not want to date within the team. Seeing how much pain Becca was in everyday being separated from her spouse was a strong lesson. Thankfully a little bit of tactical cuteness distracted him. After this she would owe Bijou so many snuggles.
It was certainly an odd one. Maybe a thousand people in total spoke it as a first language and she could probably count the number of people her age on one hand. Her dad had ranted long enough on the governments banning of their language.
Raising and eyebrow and grinning, "Fairs fair, doctor. I told you a secret, you have to tell me one." It was said in a joking tone but she was genuinely curious to see what he'd share.

Rambunctious, her? What could possibly give him that idea. At all. Never mind her last training session and the damage she totally hadn't done to the floor. Or the very, very small fire she might have started once. Or twice.
He didn't give himself enough credit, not many people would do the same in his situation. Laughing and shaking her head, she was well aware of how bad hours could be. "I was under the impression it was all about the girls. Why else be a doctor if you can't see candy-stripers all day?" she replied with, enjoying a bit of friendly banter for once.
Stress relief was always good, especially for them and she had to agree with Mal, the pretty faces in the base weren't exactly unwelcome. Returning his joke with a grin, "I don't know, some of the Americans are charming, in their own way." Combatant could pull of a skin tight suit like nobody else.
It felt good to laugh, she'd needed it today. A long shift on the scanners followed by a full night playing was always tough but she wasn't exactly about to complain about work stress to a freaking doctor. She had some tact.
"Well I suppose I could start with something fun. Not many people can guess, but English isn't my first language." Not even the few Brits she had met had been able to guess at first.
Good, she didn't need to worry about the sixth. She wasn't entirely sure she'd be able to take three on at once without seriously hurting them. Two she could do thought, she just needed to find a way to distract her two until Impact gave the order. Scattering the knives she'd pulled out, she knew she wouldn't be able to hide them until needed. She hated wasting the energy, but for now it was necessary. Once they had suited up in their respective outfits, she have access to her physical knives. That way she would have to rely on her power all night. Hopefully.
Following her lead and stepping down and out of the truck she noted the looks on the men, seeing two women stepping out of the vehicle. Hmm, maybe she could use that to her advantage, a little harmless flirting might be just the distraction she needed. All she had to do was buy a little time after all.
While the boss had a very official looking man bearing down on her, Cait stepped to the side and tried look bored and tired. That usually did the trick and while Becca and what she guessed was some sort of supervisor, she noted the curious glances from a couple of the younger lads there. This might be easier than she initially thought. Stretching languidly, as if she'd just spent a few hours in a truck and needed to loosen some muscles. They were both clearly interested and started to whisper to each other, casting sidelong glances at their own boss to see if he was paying attention.
Smiling as Impact worked her own brand of boss magic and getting the supervisor to follow her to the back of the truck, her two admirers leapt at the chance to talk to her. It would have been cute if they'd been in a bar and not some super secret base where they kept mutants prisoner. She needed to remember those details.
"Good evening lads, long night?" Time for a bit of Scottish charm and what she'd sometimes referred to as tactical flirtation. "How are you two tonight?" Suppressing a grin as they both nervously introduced themselves and tried to get to know her. They were not good at this. Any other time it would be disappointing but right now, it was exactly what she was after. Someone more well versed with chatting up a lass might be able to see she was distracting them, these two were just happy she was paying them any attention.
A loud sound followed by Becca's quick demand for help meant the plan was on. Tensing slightly one of her new friends noticed her change in demeanor. "Hey, are you OK? You seem a little upset." Damn, she shouldn't have been so noticeable. Although, she might be able to use this to her advantage.
Pointing over one of their shoulders, she put on a suitably worried face. "I think a saw someone over there, they weren't in uniform." It was almost too easy. "Oh god don't say there was, I can't fight, I barely passed the physical." Wouldn't hurt to have them underestimate her and her timing had been perfect, just as one of them turned to 'investigate' and the other tried to clumsily calm her down, Impacts call came through. Go time.
Pulling out her paired knives, she started with a particularly dirty trick. She kneed the first guy in the crotch, slamming the hilt of the knife down on the back of his head as he crumpled over. He was down for now but his friend had realised something was up, trying to spin quickly and catch her out. Dodging under his elbow, she slammed her fisting into his stomach, before bringing the knife hilt first into his jaw. Oof, from the crunching sound he wasn't talking for a while. Punching the hard construct into his temple, he was out for the count. That, had been really easy. Was it meant to be that easy?
