The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Choosing not to nerd out over her power and how it affected her biology, he instead stayed quiet as she explained her work. It was a pretty impressive list, greenhouses, charity work and singing? Oh and she was a teacher as well. In a really interesting field as well. "Wow, that's really amazing. Where do you teach, if you don't mind me asking?"
Hang on, she a four year old? OK, so he wasn't amazing at gauging peoples ages but she did not look old enough to have a child, let alone one ready to go to school. "Nothing quite that, impressive, to be honest. I've just finished my first year at NYU studying medicine so I'm kind of just looking for a way to occupy myself over the summer. Probably going to be taking on more volunteer work with Haven." Sarah was still far to attached to him to try to get her to the outreach programs with anyone else.
"Other than that not much. About the only other thing I have going is a wee bit of training up at the mansion. A friend roped me in and I can't really escape it now." Not that he was going to complain. not getting himself killed was rather high on his priorities right now. General weirdness aside, he was developing an annoying habit of listen to his conscience.
Shrugging as he finished, "Like I said, nothing quite as awesome as yourself. I can't imagine balancing everything and being a parent."

Snorting at that, she'd have made a bitter comment at what breasts, but Mal's good mood was too infectious to be bothered by that right now. "Oh trust me, a man in a lab coat who just knows he belongs is much sexier than someone playing dress up. That and a guy who can pull off a corset is way more of a turn on than most will admit." She should probably keep Pat away from the guy. She loved him but the man was really dangerous to introduce to new friends.
Cait certainly knew she got too defensive about the team from time to time. They were good people, people she loved and respected and so much hate got leveled at them. "Sorry if I sound a bit defensive about them. They're just so important to me, and I really do appreciate you helping us out." Knowing he could understand their emotions still took a bit of getting used to. "Oh you'd do it even without your power. You're a good person," adding a cheeky grin and looking at his hand, "even if you're a bit of a flirt."
"Well, you seem trust worthy. Don't know how much that means from the naive one but," she trailed of shrugging. She knew who she was on the team and she wouldn't have it any other way. "But thank you, for listening. With a double life and some of the team members being, themselves, it's sometimes hard to find someone to talk to." Giving him a warm smile, before continuing, "You do realise this means you can't escape now right?"
Not that she wanted him too, it was so relaxing hanging out with him and the plans she had for the two of them. There would be so many musicals. And singing.

Damn the girl had muscles. It was really impressive, and cool. And awesome. Maybe she could get some training tips from her, Cait was always looking for better ways to keep fit. "Whatever you're doing, it's working. You look amazing! Can't help but make a girl feel inferior, especially with how good your dress looks on you. Never been able to pull them off myself." There were some disadvantages to knowing Becca, the woman was a walking excuse for the young Scots last little teenage inferiorities.
Oh it was so happening, Rianne didn't just want to see them play, she was actually interested in their folk stuff. Too many friends didn't even try to listen to it, meeting people that did always made her day. Her phone going off her smile went to full on grin mode again. Yeah, today was shaping up really great from her perspective. Quickly saving the number, making sure to spell the name right, she sent her own reply back.
Awesome! So not going to abuse this. At all.
One thing with karaoke, was as awesome as it was to get people singing in front of a crowd, some people can not sing. Not that she'd stop anyone trying but sometimes her musical training kicked in and would not stop cringing at flat notes and missed time cues. Then again, get a few more drinks in her and she would be happily screeching along with them.
"Is it even possible to be drunk enough?" Probably if she was being honest. Her last adventure with vodka had been an, interesting night. "Maybe I need something stronger than beer at least," she added, taking a long swig from her bottle.
Cait was not about to say no to more singing with Rianne, it had been so much fun before, she could only imagine how ridiculous it could get. "Oh you are so on. You're picking the song this time though, can't let me have all the fun on that front." Seeing peoples musical choices always perked her up, got her really interested. It was like looking directly at a part of someones personality.
Oh my god, that had caught him so off guard. Artair really did try to not laugh, but Devon's flustered stammering broke him down. Yeah, he hadn't explained himself very well but the guys reaction was just so out of left field for him. He was more used to being sworn at by friends that have someone so concerned for potentially offending him.
"Sorry, sorry but I think you've misunderstood." His words still came out between bouts of laughter. "You've done nowt wrong today Devon, in that situation you had more experience and did what was needed, thats more than fine with me. What I meant was I will always speak my mind about what you're doing, what you want me to do." He did need to consider his next words carefully, "I won't do something just because you ask, I'll make my own moral judgements and if I think something is sketchy to me, I'll speak up about."
Chuckling it off, he had to wonder if Devon was maybe not as used to alcohol as he was. After all the guy seemed around his age and America was certainly a wee bit more uptight over the stuff. Artair was basically from a culture revolving around it, it was like he had a genetic advantage in that regard. "As for not needing you today? There was no way I could have done that alone, don't sell yourself short. You helped a complete stranger for no better reason than it was the right thing to do, trust me when I say, I respect that."
"I was just putting my cards on the table. I'm happy to help people, and will give as much time to Haven as I can, but I just needed it known that I will be vocal if I think something is wrong." If push came to shove he would walk, but that was implied for now. If Haven could do things outside the law, get to the people who actually deserved justice, he was all in.
Artair took another sip of his drink and glanced around, noting the mood getting better and the bar starting to get packed. Every time he'd been here he had enjoyed himself, had more beers than was probably wise and even met a nice lass or two. It was kind of weird to be having such a private conversation here, but then again, there was a twisted sense to it. No one paid them any mind, or at least, no one paid him any mind. Devon got more than a few admiring looks from various people, even some very jealous partners giving evil looks after noticing their loved ones stares. Some people had all the luck.
"You don't need to worry about offending me, friendships back hope tend to contain more swearing and playful abuse." Giving him an amused look, "If you do royally p--- me off, somehow, you'll know. Trust me." Swearing was a national past time for the Scots.

He might not have dropped it, but that didn't stop the guilty twinge in his mind. Not that he was going to let that stop him eating, his stomach growling at the food in front of him. Shoveling some of his noodles and tofu down took the edge of his hunger long enough to actually get his mind working again. She was a bonnie lass, and her smiling only made the image that much better. How the hell had this happened?
He did have to wonder how hurt she was. It looked like it was bad enough to hurt her appetite, if he was reading the situation right. "You need any pain killers Xavia? I tend to have enough over the counter stuff on me these days if you want some." Chronic headaches and pain were common place for him in recent months.
"Since you've invited me to sit with you, makes sense to get to know each other." Hey, why not have a nice conversation with a meal, even if he was still unsure how the situation had gotten to this point. "What do you do for a living?"

It was really interesting to hear why people were self sacrificing, why they put themselves on the line. Especially considering how dangerous New York was, with more than regular thugs and dangers they also had rampaging mutants from time to time. She was also fascinated by Riannes' explanation of her job, it sounded amazing. "So, you went for the easy option when you joined," she joked, pretty impressed by the description she'd been given. "Seriously though that's really impressive Rianne. You must have some pretty serious training to be at that point."
Grinning at the enthusiasm she got, it was always fun to explain her job to other people. "We generally play rock and pop music that's either popular at the time, or fits the general feeling we are going for that night. It's mainly us getting hired when a place wants some live music for an event or to bring some money in. Rather than spend all our effort trying to get signed by a label, we've tried to build a good, solid reputation in the industry and it's been good to us."
"As for our next show, pick a night and we're probably playing," pulling out a small diary she showed Rianne the various dates and times they were booked. As a rule they usually worked at least five nights a week, if not more. "If you are wanting to see us play," she started, pulling out a card with her number on it, "give me a ring. I'd love to see you at one." It would be so awesome to have Rianne go to a show. She loved friends being able to see her play.
"Sometimes we even play more traditional folk music, if that's more your speed. Some of the Irish bars like getting the old world feel in."

She had to grin at his comment. She'd still been a bit scrawny then, if her hair had been any shorter she would have easily passed for a skinny guy. It was sweet he was complimenting her though and he did seem to genuinely mean it. "I do try, not that I could hold a candle to a real life doctor," she added lightly, imagining Mal in his own coat.
If it wasn't for the way he spoke now, she'd keep forgetting he was picking up on her emotions and it was pretty good to get some confirmation for outside that they were actually doing something good. "I can't speak for everyone here, but I don't think any of them are here because they think they're better than anyone else." No, some of them just seemed a little too happy to get into fights. "Although one or two," definitely one, "are a little bit over eager in combat from time to time."
Well this was a fun question to answer, given the nice light hearted conversation they'd been having. "I don't know why they first started being called the X-Men or when, but theres a good reason we call ourselves that now. I'm guessing you know there was an incident a while ago, a lot of the X's didn't make it." Cait had managed to piece bits together over the years from various people. "Becca kept the name, I guess to honour them and none of us are about to argue with her over the name."
"At the end of the day it's what we're known as, what we get recognised as. I don't think it matters anymore why, just that we are." She hadn't asked the boss some questions, out of respect. It didn't feel right to.

He might not be great at reading people but even he could tell how much pain she was in. It was hard to believe how difficult such a sensitivity to temperature would make day to day life, let alone situations like this. Thank god most restaurants kept a well stocked first aid station, with everything needed to treat burns and the like.
Glancing up he was so glad food was arriving, he really could do with it right now. Even more surprising, his arrived at the same times as Xavias' and it all smelled amazing. All the spices, the vegetables, it made his mouth water as they set them down and he nearly missed her next statement.
It was just so ridiculous to him, he couldn't help but laugh. "It's a pleasure, burns and embarrassment aside. I will admit, it's is odd having you apologise to me, not that I'm complaining. I wouldn't have been surprised if I was kicked out honestly."
Looking up at the mansion as he arrived in his taxi, he knew this was going to suck. A lot. Their last meeting had ended particularly badly for Kendra and he hadn't heard anything from her since then. It had taken him a couple of messages and a phone call to make sure she really was fine after the drug bust and now, now he had finally managed to find time to meet her in person again. Artair probably wasn't the best person for heart to heart talks, but he was the only person who had been there that night. If anyone needed to talk to her about that night, it was him.
After cleaning up as much of her blood as possible and trying to find the piece of s--- who'd shot her, his own plans after the botched vigilantism had been to discover the bottom of a bottle as quickly as he could. He'd killed someone. In fact he'd probably killed multiple people and he wasn't sure he was ever going to be the same again. The excuse of self defence didn't even feel valid. He'd walked into there knowing what those people were, what they'd do. He had asked for it.
Shaking his head, thanking the taxi guy and paying with a decent tip, he moved onwards towards the front doors. Right now, he wanted to gauge Kendra's state. He could deal with his baggage on his own, in his own way, but she had been shot. She'd nearly died. That was traumatic enough to anyone, he had no clue how it would have effected the lass. She had never struck him has the most mature person to begin with.
Getting to the front office, he was a bit at a loss of what to do. Sending a quick text that he had arrived and would be waiting in the living room, he headed in that direction. Nodding at the few people he recognised and having a short chat with the passing Doc, he eventually found himself alone in the living room, dreading the next few minutes. He was hardly the best equipped for this, Christ thanks to Kendra he knew how bad his anger issues were, he shouldn't really be trying to help others with their problems.
Sighing and pulling out a book, he was half hoping she wouldn't come out. Yeah he'd be upset but still, he'd be lying if he said he wouldn't be a little bit relieved.

Alice was good at this, way better than she was at least. "My it sounds so easy when you say it like that. I don't usually get that far before they start kissing me." Which was, mostly true. Pat being Pat had helped on more than one occasion. Too much alcohol did the rest.
Laughing along with her, how was she engaged in nerdy flirting, in a gay bar, with a beautiful woman. It wasn't meant to be this easy right? "I just love the campy feel to them, the way they do what they do and obviously love doing it. Something cool in watching a passion project play out." Well, it wasn't only reason. "The metal bikini has nothing to do with it."
Damnit, the woman was too good at putting her off balance. She could be suave, she could be confident. Alice was just really good at messing with her. Ignore the fact her hand felt really nice and soft. "Well, I may have to take you up on that. Sounds like it could be very fun." Cait was starting to lose track of the amount of innuendo's but she was fairly sure things were going well. Somehow.
Taking another gulp from her drink, she nearly choked at Alices' question. Well there goes any pretense of being casual. Maybe it was time for boldness. "Oh, I see plenty I like the look of. Although I'm pretty sure you know how good you look." Not that it was in doubt.
"I was just thinking how amazing the dress looks, it certainly suits you very well. I've never been able to wear them, but maybe the right girl could get me into one," she said winking, "Or out of it."

"Been to a showing? Of course I have. One of the best dates I've ever been on." A few weeks after prom some tickets had been given to her and her friends. They had gone ham on dressing up. Wait, did Mal of pictures? This, this she had to see. For science. "Oh my god Mal, this is the best thing ever." Damn the guy had good legs. Could pull off a corset better than some girls she knew as well. "Well, since you showed me yours," she said with a grin, pulling her own phone out and finding the pictures she had from then.
"If you can drag your eyes away from the beauty in the middle, I'm the girl in the lab coat holding her hand." While it might not have worked out between them, the fact that she was still her best friend hadn't changed. There were just some more fun parts to the friendship now.
Oh, yeah that. Being surrounded by horny teenagers was bad enough when you couldn't tell what they were feeling. That must have been really awkward at times. She would have probably started punching people if every moment was spent knowing some creep behind her was checking her out.
His reasoning made a lot of sense to her. As soon as she had learnt of her power, and gained a little control of it she'd started stalking the X-Men, begging them to let her join. Thank god Becca had taken pity on her, eventually. "I get that. It's pretty much the reason I'm here in the first place, to be honest. Since mines made for fighting, it made sense to join Becca and the others, even if I don't like hurting people." Agnes making jibing comments about her resolve was one thing, but others around here sometimes doubted her ability to do what was needed. Someone needed to be the optimist, the fool. If only for the very small chance she was right

Smiling, he was glad the tension was easing a little and the other people present were going back to their meals, only glancing over occasionally. "Aye, hard to miss how bad those burns are. But normal? I think I've lost my gauge for that recently, this is a very odd city."
Well, if she was sure, he wouldn't say no to sitting with her. He also had to admit, they were nice legs, burns not withstanding. "No problem lass," he responded softly, "Seemed the least I could do considering." The accent sounded familiar but he couldn't place it. Definitely eastern European, but he didn't know exactly where. Nodding to his waiter and mouthing that this was where he was sitting now, he was glad to still be allowed to stay to be honest, let alone have company for his meal.
Making sure no one could see his hand behind the menus on the table, he focused and pulled out a small knife over his palm, before scattering it when she'd seen it. "No need to worry about me blabbin' Xaxia," he wasn't about to make a big deal out of someones powers in public. Not without knowing their stance on the matter.
"Not my best first impression but I'd be lying if I was saying it's my worst." Alcohol and first meetings did not mix well.

She couldn't help but laugh at his comments, he was very self assured. Well, he was pretty cute, even if he did know it. If she was looking for a relationship he wouldn't be the worst choice. With everything else he was, he was a good guy. That went a long way. "Someone has a good impression of themselves. But I don't know, a little bit of make up, some beautiful tights and you'd do a great Dr Frankenfurter. You've got the perfect cheek bones," she added a cheeky little grin on her mouth.
Him, grumpy? That wasn't possible, he was just so, smiley. "Are you pulling my leg again? Because believing you have an angsty bone in your body is about as hard as believing you can sing as well as you think you can." There was no way he would get away without proving that at some point. There will be karaoke, if she had to drag the machine up those stairs herself.
Cait was so glad her job with the X's had let her meet Mal. She very rarely got to meet people who were so genuinely good people. Using your powers to help people, given the way mutants were treated now, was an amazing risk to put yourself through. "I wouldn't know anything about unfair advantage and no amount of arguments will convince me otherwise." Yeah in a fight her powers were actually amazing. But she didn't want to hurt people and knives, knives are very good at that.
"What made you want to be a doctor in the first place by the way. I don't think I asked."

Well then, that was a first, he didn't think anyone had ever apologised to him after he'd spilt something on them. It was, odd. He'd have laughed if she didn't pull her skirt up to address the burns. Quickly looking up, he did see some of the blistering on her skin. Tea shouldn't have been hot enough to do that kind of damage.
That needed proper care. Asking one of the servers for the first add kit, when he returned his attention, there was a plant growing out of her hand. Right then. Trying to shield her from view with his body, if only to protect her dignity if not to stop some random bigot getting annoying. "Yeah, sorry again about that." It was hard to not be a little embarrassed, given that he had created this entire situation.
Still trying to not look at her uncovered legs, he really, really wished he had just left well enough alone. "I'm Artair by the way, can't say this my finest moment but nice to meet you. I guess." For the love of god could they hurry up with that first aid kit, he was looking like a complete moron right now.
