The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

The Ranger's hand was met with a high five of sorts. He took his hand back, if she wanted to live on his floor, far be it from him to stop her. Then the washer finished and Noel assaulted the coffee table with her head. He winced, that didn't look fun. "There's a table there."
"I'll get it. You get that foot up."
Done. The Ranger put his foot back up on the coffee table as Noel navigated the field of boxes to get to the washing machine. He leaned back in the couch while Noel handled swapping everything to the dryer.
When she made her way back, Noel had a bottle with her. She scooped up the food and the Ranger leaned forward to grab the bottle. Anti-inflammatory. He opened the bottle and dumped some of the contents into his hand."Thank you." He called to Noel before he tossed back the pills in his hand and swallowed. One does not need something to wash down grunt candy. When he set the bottle down he did pick up his tea though. While it can be taken without something to drink it left a weird taste in the mouth and he had the means to clear it.
It did not pass the Ranger's notice how Noel was taking care of everything while he was injured. Sure he could have managed on his own, but her help made a huge difference. He'd have to do something to thank her later.
"Looks like there's 30ish minutes on the dryer. I'm gonna go grab a nap. You keep the blanket. Since you're moist."
"Sleep well." He said as he deposited his glass back on the coffee table.
With that Noel was once again in his bedroom closing the door. She was spending more time in there today than he had.
Being wet when the AC kicked on a moment later was cold. The Ranger turned on the couch so his head was on one armrest and his foot up on the other. He then pulled the blanket up over himself. It had somehow managed to escape most of the water.
Viewing the world by heat was an interesting experience. He could make out things like faces well enough, but unless there was enough contrast to affect heat absorption he couldn't read anything. All glass and water also became mirrors.
Were Elliott not so unique looking he would still be able to loosely recognize him. As it was, his antennae would make him stand way out in heat vision world.
As the Ranger scanned the subway car Elliot said that he was worried about the control room and the engines."The axles have electric motors. He'd have t' set it under the floor." Just in case he avoided saying bomb. "Setting up by the conductor or where it could tip the cars as we pass another in the tunnel. Maximize damage."
His vision was sensitive enough he could see where people had recently touched. Not so helpful at the moment with people everywhere touching everything. If a panel had been removed though, somewhere that there were less people, he'd notice.
"I'll check the control room." And he set off. Slowly, casually, making his way through the car on his way to the front of the train.

She dumps water into his pants then calls him incontinent. That's just fighting dirty. The pants colliding with her head as she sat there laughing made it almost worth it though. Noel rolling off the couch did make it worth it.
The Ranger roared with laughter. He couldn't help himself. He watched Noel bat the pants aside as he tried to control himself.
"What a strange turn today has taken."
The Ranger wiped at his eyes, he'd laughed so hard they'd started to water a little. "Not at all where I saw today goin'." He sifted around and found the towel Noel had brought earlier. It was still a little damp, but it was drier than his underwear. He slid it between himself and the couch.
"Want a hand?" He reached a hand out to help her up. "Or did y' forget how t' hold things as well as how t' sit?"

Noel may have won the war of words, but the Ranger had used her as a barbell. So there was that. You know, the little victories. And he was rewarded with a laugh. He smiled.
“You can't just hulk your way out of this one, buddy.”
"I think I..." The Ranger was cut off. Noel had poured her water not just into the back of his pants, but straight down his crack. In his surprise he dropped Noel, he caught her again before she hit the couch in the crooks of his arm. He then deposited her onto the couch.
Noel deposited he felt at the back of his pants. Yup completely wet. He looked at Noel. "This is y'r fault." He unzipped his soaked pants and yanked them off. Now wearing nothing but his underwear he took a page out of her book and threw his pants at her head.

And then everything changed. Noel presented a creative interpretation of what the Ranger had said and was shrugging off his arm. In reply he smiled and shrugged. Her tone sounded like this was in jest so would play along.
He crossed his arms and eyed her as she sat back and fired her first salvo. She couldn't quite keep a straight face as she called him sad. The Ranger narrowed his eyes. She grabbed some water before firing her second salvo.
It was well played.
The Ranger faked a look of shock. It was an insult battle. He knew there was no way he'd win, but he needed to at least make a strong showing. He fumbled for a second, on the spot insulting not being his forte."I...y'...w'... ...Mmmm" Well when speaking fails...
Pulling his legs in and getting them under him on the couch, the Ranger leaned forward and grabbed Noel. He pulled her in close and then up she went as he leaned back. Were he standing his ankle would have none of this shenanery. Sitting on top of his legs, he could manage it.
Sitting straight up he had her over his shoulder he moved his arms to transition to using her as a weight for an overhead press. One hand on a thigh, the other on her midsection and up she went. Full arm extension.

He hadn’t realized it until Noel was poking him in the face, but had mentally drifted back to that night in North Korea. He snapped back to reality.
“Don’t. Whatever that is, don’t.”
She was looking up at him now. And he noticed that she was much more relaxed. The now was infinitely more better than what he was remembering. Though, not much was better than relaxing with a good looking woman resting against you.
Looking away Noel added, “Learn lessons from the mistakes you carry, but don’t self-flagellate. Otherwise I may have to come over there.”
”I try t’ keep the worst in the past.” Sometimes easier said than done. ”Not all’re mistakes though. Hard decisions mostly.” He shook his head slightly banishing the thoughts before leaning it against Noel’s on his shoulder.
Otherwise she may have to come over here? Did she mean poke him in the face again? She was already up against him. ”I’ll keep it in mind though. Keep y’ where y’ are.”

At his touch Noel tipped over and he slid his across to her shoulders. Her head on his shoulder. She was still warm with the heat from the shower. Her back remain stiff, she must not be completely comfortable with this. Which to be fair, this was only the second time they’d seen each other and she’d forgotten much of the first.
The heavy subject aside, it was nice.
Noel continued. This time she dumped some of the worst. Killing, stealing, and maiming? The Ranger had done more than his share of that. Taking away someone’s ability to speak English? That was intense and was more than anything else what bothered the Ranger. It was terrifying that she could just delete something like that out of someone’s head.
He shoved that aside. Noel hadn’t messed with his head, so far as he knew.
”Y’re not the only one in this room who’s rained holy hell down on people.” She was not alone in having ruined lives. Oh the stories he could tell. ”As someone who know’s how it is t’ have destroyed lives, I’m always here t’ help.”
The face of a Korean kid that was shot just to keep him away from the North Koreans flashed in his mind.

In response he received a single, "Yes." The Ranger let that hang in the air, and after setting down her food Noel continued. She had his undivided attention as she spoke.
She told a story of an interaction with a newer officer. Something stupid led to the officer arriving. She'd chosen not to kill the officer. The Ranger had killed his fair share of people, but he'd never taken out someone in blue. Well, not at home. It seemed too far. It was good that she didn't.
Noel continued beyond the arrest.
The Ranger knew she could erase memories, but her taking them was new to him. Her claiming to be able to do that and having worked with other psychics brought back some of the apprehension he had when she'd first told him about her erasing memories. He knew the Government must have at some point, and probably still was somewhere, involved with using psychics to get work done. He'd just rather they stayed far away.
The Ranger pushed all that away for now. He could puzzle out how he felt about the Government working with psychics another time. Besides, Noel had left that unit.
She finished the story. Shot during a car chase, the shot probably keeping her out of the clutches of some black unit in the Government.
It was rather a lot to take in at once. Her arrest, working for the Government to steal secrets and make the original owner of the secret forget it, and a shot that likely protected you from the group she'd worked for.
The Ranger was lost for words. What do you say to all of that? "It's in the past," or, "It'll be alright," all seem canned and hollow.
Instead of trying to say something, when there was honestly nothing that could be said that would do justice to what Noel had just dropped, the Ranger gently put a hand on her shoulder.
Different people in this kind of situation react differently. Some want to be held, some want to push everyone away. A lot of people were somewhere between. The Ranger opted to provide a comforting touch and would adapt to how Noel responded. He could remove his hand if she bristled or slide his hand to her other shoulder to pull her into a comforting hug.

Noel confirmed his guess and informed him she had not been having the best of luck with the law lately. The Ranger waited, he could tell there was more to it and he'd let her tell it. He opted to pick back up his foot and take another bite.
She let her shirt back down and kicked up her feet. and stated that they were desperate times. The Ranger wondered if this was connected to her incompetency. The scar was new enough it might just be. her comment seemed to be her dismissing it all.
"It's one of the things that got me here so I suppose I can't complain too much."
After saying it, Noel took a bite. The Ranger took that as his cue. After swallowing a bite, and washing it down he set his food back down. He'd had a bit less than half, but Noel had the right idea. It was warm under the covers and he wasn't about to hold his food under with him. He'd never gotten around to putting on a shirt.
"I'm guessin' that's related t' why y're here? At Haven that is." She'd attempted to dismiss the topic so he didn't want to pry. He'd talk around it. He had a two-fold interest. As head of security this was information that he should have. Though, right now he wasn't wearing that hat. Instead he was interested in the goings on with someone he'd come to think of as a comrade in arms once.
Sure, he only knew her that one day. That one day had about as much happen as a tour in Iraq.

She liked spicy food. He knew he liked her.
The Ranger finished wrapping his ankle and leaned back. It didn't hurt like it did before even though the numbness from the ice had worn off. He kept his foot up on the table, but off on the edge. Noel brought him a glass of tea and some lunch.
Then she was back with her own lunch asking how his foot was. And on the couch stealing some of his covers. He was just fine with that. She was still putting out a little bit of heat from her shower in spire of a couple minutes pantsless.
"It was touch an' go, but It'll make it. Y're off the hook f'r stitches this time." He announced before taking a bite of his lunch.
"Oh, hey. We're practically twins now."
Looking over from his food, the Ranger saw Noel working up his... her? The shirt she was wearing. And there was a doosey of a scar. He set his food down and moved his head a little closer to look.
"I mean, it's no sword slice sewn up on the field."
Defiantly wasn't a sword, "That's quite the scar. You were shot?" Small on the back, larger on the front. Front was the exit wound, based the entrance he'd guess .35 caliber. Something like 9mm, .380, .357m or .38. The exit wound narrowed it down. much larger, likely made by something just shy of an inch. Only one thing did that consistently. He looked up at her face, "NYPD?" Standard issue CCI Speer Gold Dot 124gr 9mm+p. .355" diameter that expands to .900" and can travel up to seventeen inches through tissue.
Not a lot of thugs carried Gold Dot and concealed carry licenses were extremely rare in this city.

"But really. Is this like a take out service or something?
"I cooked it. All easy enough t' make. Spend an hour an' y're good f'r the week." Then he realized he should give her a little warning, "Fair warnin'. The chicken is wrapped around jalapeños."
His childish comment was met by a proportional response. Noel dropped the pants and tossed them at him. With a completely manly meep, the Ranger dodged the pants by laying on the couch. The pants slid down the couch onto him.
It was rather easy to get her out of her pants.
The Ranger sat up pushing the pants off onto the floor. "I deserved that." he said. Then it was back to wrapping his ankle. He could hear the microwave running. She must have found something that would work. It didn't get much easier than throw in microwave and go though.
"You hungry?"
He hadn't been thinking about it, what with a sprained ankle and all, but he was. He'd been thinking of going to get food before his boot had been jacked by Noel. "Starvin'." It was only barely an exaggeration.

The sound of the shower stopped as the Ranger opened the box he was searching for. Medical supplies. The usual first aid items as well large bottles of antibiotics, bags of saline, and anything anything a medic might have save morphine. He had to pile stuff out to dig down for a compression wrap.
While he was digging Noel came out and asked if he had anything easy to make to eat. He hadn’t thought about it before when she threw clothes in the washer, but she didn’t have any other clothes with her. He only thought about it now because she was there wearing his clothes. He had offered to let her shower while not having access to her room and thus her own clothes. ”There’s leftovers y’ can heat up or I’ve got some pre-prepared meals in the fridge.”
There was some food left over from an Iranian place in the fridge. Lamb. There was also a few plastic containers that had meals ready to go in them. You don’t stay in the kind of shape the Ranger is in without some attention to what you eat. A couple had pork, a couple had chicken, and one had round steak. Along with the meat there was some green vegetable like spinach, Brussels sprouts, or broccoli and either red potato or rice. The meals were already cooked, just microwave and eat. They were portioned for the Ranger who had a high Calorie requirement each day.
There was also beer in the fridge. You can’t not have beer in the fridge. And a pitcher of tea, like beer you had to have tea.
The compression wrap revealed itself. Of course, it was in a corner at the bottom of the box. Taking hold of it he hobbled back to the couch. He could deal with the stuff he pulled out later. At the couch he set to trying to wrap his own ankle.
A childish part of the Ranger noticed something that he couldn't help but point out, "Didn't take y' long t' get into my pants."

”It’s nice t’ have a piece of home. An’ y’ gotta decorate with somethin’. Why not rep y’r home country?” The Ranger said. While not a Texas secessionist it was fun to talk about his home as the Republic of Texas.
Noel stuffed the clothes into the washer then pointed at him and instructed him not to go anywhere. He wasn’t planning on it. She retreated to the bedroom. He assumed she was going to… She opened the door, told him not to medicate with alcohol. This comment made the Ranger laugh a little. Noel wielded her finger a final time and declared that she was not his mother before slamming the door again.
It took the Ranger a moment to recover from that. By then the moment to reply was lost. He turned and put his foot up on the coffee table.
He didn’t remember which box had his medical supplies. Looking around he mentally ran through what was in boxes around the room. He decided on which one to hop over to check when the door opened again.
Wearing nothing but a towel, Noel shot across the room to the washer and deposited her own clothes before starting it and running back to the bathroom.
The Ranger in no way gave her a good look while she was in such a state of dress. Not at all. Definitely didn’t do that at all. At no point did he see enough to think to himself about how good she looked.
Yeah. He may have stared a little.
Noel back in the bedroom the Ranger rallied. He would give the ice a few more minutes then it was up to find something to wrap his ankle.
A few minutes later he got up off the couch, leaving the ice pack on the coffee table. He carefully made his way over to a box and dug around in the contents. Not medical supplies. He made his way to another, not meds. He really should have written the contents on the outside not just the room they go in.

Noel protested while picking up his wet clothes. Correction, Noel trailed off in her protest. The Ranger noticed she was staring at his scar. Finally she spoke. And poked an icicle she disguised as a finger at the scar.
“The way you got hurt last time was far less lame.”
It certainly was much less lame. Coming away from a fight with three ninja with only a single cut was quite the feat. He had let one of the ninja make the cut so he could exploit the opening on the ninja it would leave. One slice or dead, not a hard call.
The Ranger sat up a little. Was Noel remembering? She could have just been remembering what he had said to her earlier, but her demeanor had seemed to change. Like she was working through it in her head.
”Yup.” He agreed. Keeping it short to not disturb her as she seemed absorbed in her thoughts while dumping his pockets. He did pull the blanket over him some. Sitting there shirtless and wet was a bit chilly.
She read his name from his ID. Which made him realize, he only knew her first name. Now wasn’t the time to interrupt for that, he could ask later. She then said his call-sign, which nothing in his wallet said. Nor had he told her that today since catching up to her in the park. She was remembering some. He shifted the ice pack.
“I’ll hang this stuff up”
”Jus’ throw ‘em on the washer.” Easier than finding a hanger and that way they wouldn’t be dripping on the floor. "Less of a hassle."
He shifted the ice pack again. His ankle was nice and numb. While still oversized it at least didn’t hurt anymore. He’d need to wrap it soon. Where did he stick that box of medical supplies?

"You're gonna have to take off your clothes."
Not what the Ranger was expecting when Noel came out of the kitchen and tossed him an ice pack. He almost missed the pack in surprise. She had meant that he was getting the couch wet. That made sense. And was a completely normal thing that anyone could have said given the situation. But still when an attractive woman tells you that you need to take your clothes off, it being because your clothes are wet and you'll ruin your couch is not where the brain goes.
He thought he covered well. Didn't flub the catch. His jaw wasn't lolling open. He even avoided making that dumb turtle face some people make when surprised.
Holding the ice in one hand the Ranger watched Noel disappear into his bedroom. He set the ice on his ankle and pulled off his shirt. It took a moment, wet shirts liked hang on like someone glued them on. At the angle he was reclining he could just see the scar on his side from the last time he'd seen Noel. He had to move the ice to set to work on his pants. While also sticking, he had to be careful not to move his leg around too much too quickly. That done he reached the executive decision to just wear wet underpants. Some level of propriety should be observed.
His pants had just thudded to the ground, as pants with pockets full of things like knives, pocket lights, and wallets tend to do, when Noel came back. She dumped everything she'd fished out onto him. He unburied himself from cloth mountain as noel informed him she was going to grab a shower. Then she ruffled his hair and did that little dance people do when they loose something.
"Do you have access to change the door codes?"
Carefully pulling on the pants he replied, "I can do that." He plopped the ice down on his ankle. "Not so mobile at the moment. Y're welcome t' mine though." If he could just get the swelling down he could hobble around and get her door open.
