The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

The December-January period had been pretty relaxed for Emily, mostly spending some time with her girlfriend and catching up on work here and there, but as February approached the work heavy parts of her life picked up again. A whole new semester of topics and modules for her to cover was a slight system shock. She'd worked over the holidays, around the mansion mostly. But getting back into the College mindset was a lot more difficult than she'd expected it to be. As a result she'd not spent as much time with Skye as she maybe would have liked.
She knew that her and Skye were hanging out today, but she'd gotten side tracked on making notes and working on a new assignment. She bounced up when she felt the signature mix of intense emotions that could only be Skye approaching her door way and glanced down at what she was wearing. It could charitably be a lazy day. She was practically still in pajamas. Time had gotten away from her, oopsie.
She quickly closed down the stuff she was working on and had just about finished what she was doing when Skye opened the door and stepped inside, turning her head to smile Emily blinked. "I appear to be very under dressed." Comfortable lounging bottoms and a long sleeved top didn't really compare to Skye's wardrobe. They weren't planning on going anywhere as far as she was aware, but she supposed she could always change if Skye wanted to go out and do something. She'd be up for that.
Crossing the room towards her girlfriend Emily shook her head. "I got absorbed in something and lost track of time. I am however very excited to see you~" She reached out and gently grasped her girlfriend's fingers, letting the mixture of intensity wash over her from the close proximity, like a cat basking near a radiator.

Emily felt a little pang of sympathy for the boy, of course he was worn out with his day. She couldn't imagine the situation he was in, and being grilled by police was probably not a fun experience. The officer that dropped him off had been really nice and very genuine, but Emily guessed that even with someone that nice all the procedure and the natural intimidation of being driven somewhere by an officer had been more than a little draining. "We can deal with that later though, there is no immediate rush. I'll show you around and get you settled first."
Some people had implied before that it was an unfair advantage that Emily had when speaking to people that she could sense emotions, she told those people to sit down and shut up. And unless she was in a formal situation where ethics were actually a concern, she had no qualms about not walking around with an 'I'm an empath' sticker.
Emily chuckled. Of course he was hungry. "How long did they keep you at the station? I'm not surprised you're hungry." She smiled at him again. "We'll go make some sandwiches then, I've not eaten all day either."

Emily met Alice’s sarcastic grin with her own. “Oh, I’m sure the many people that actually know me will rejoice when scientists discover the cure for raging bitch.” She paused before adding. “Until then, you’re stuck with me like this.” She chirped, nudging playfully.
Emily quirked an eyebrow. “Were you now? I distinctly recall you only expressing that after I revealed my power to you.” She jabbed back. She was enjoying the sarcastic jibes until Alice made another suggestion. “I-Wha-Alice!” red was a pretty good colour on Emily, it just usually didn’t suit her cheeks.
Doing her best to shake the awkwardness she pressed on. “Ah. I see. That’s not a problem, as long as nobody relentlessly hits on me all night I think I’m good.” She admitted. “You I don’t mind so much, because you’re well aware you’re not getting anywhere.” Emily batted her eyelashes at Alice.
Just because she wasn’t into people in the same way that Alice was, or Skye for that matter, didn’t mean she couldn’t tease a friend that was clearly attracted to her. She was after all, a jerk.
“Yes, let's do that. Lead the way.” As Emily spoke she stepped up and looped an arm through Alice’s free one.

Okay, so most teenagers were insufferable. This one was alright. Emily could deal, she might even enjoy dealing with this situation a little, it was definitely less boring than sitting at a desk all day long.
“Don’t worry about it, just name and details. Mostly the sort of basic information they asked you at the police station, name, date of birth, that sort of thing. There are quite a few kids here, so it pays to keep good records of who is who. And if the police ever work out what happened to you, or find relatives or something, it's good to have a paper trail.” She explained, while walking the boy through the entryway.
Emily chuckled a little. “Yes, you’ve pretty much got it. There are specialists who help students that don’t have full control over their powers, there are counselling services on offer for students who need it, I work for the school counselor.” He seemed to be adjusting to it pretty quickly.
“Food is sorted by the school, very well stocked kitchen and allowances for students that don’t have money. There isn’t a uniform, don’t worry about that.” She let him ask all of his questions and smiled gently, in what she hoped at least was a reassuring way. “Hey, it’s okay. We’ll cross those bridges when we come to them.”
She glanced at him, tilting her head slightly and paying attention to what was going on emotionally. “Come on, I’ll show you the kitchens.”

Something about the honesty in William and the little bits of excitement and glee Emily could feel floating around at the sight of the mansion and conversation with herself made her smile. It was kind of wholesome. Emily on the whole didn't get on with or like teenagers very much, but she supposed there were exceptions to every rule.
"It's okay, no judgement. You'll see and hear about plenty of weird around here." It was true, she'd seen and heard so much at the mansion that made her question her outlook on life before she'd lived here. She'd never been a particularly optimistic person, but it had shocked and horrified her on some level.
Suppressing a chuckle she smiled at the teen. "Don't worry about it, a case like yours is literally what the mansion is here for. Sometimes mutants who just don't fit in at regular schools, or have trouble controlling their powers come here, it's a safe environment." She meant it. She wouldn't have hung around when she graduated high school if she didn't believe in it on at least some level or other.
"You don't need to sign anything, paper work is just for us to keep track of, your name, which room you're assigned, that sort of thing." She soothed.

Emily payed very close attention to William's emotions, she really didn't want the kid to feel to uneasy or nervous about the situation. The mansion was typically super welcoming to wayward mutant youths, and she really wasn't the typical welcoming committee. If anything, she really sucked at the being nice and reassuring thing, but she'd give it her best effort, and cheat with her empathy where she could.
A little wry smile graced her lips. "You could say a little of both?" Pondering how best to explain it Emily was silent for a few beats. "The mansion looks after young mutants specifically, they offer counselling, classes and training to help control mutations among other things. You don't need to pay anything to stay here, just try to stay out of trouble."
Turning back to look at William with a slightly awkward smile. "I don't mean to imply that you will cause trouble, almost everyone here is cool. Even the staff and the teachers." She led the two of them up to the entrance and held it open, allowing the boy to enter, giving him a few moments to lurk and look around, take in the site of the massive mansion.

Emily made a mental note to ask Alice about the sister thing later. She definitely wanted to know more about that, she'd never have pegged Alice as someone who grew up with a sibling. She absolutely exuded the independent brat vibe. Not that Emily was throwing stones with that, she was definitely suited to being an only child.
Emily had mostly managed to avoid too much harassment by Gemma, she supposed Alice was much more of a clear cut case of 'troubled' mansion student. It probably helped that Emily didn't fail a year so much as spend a year deciding what she wanted to do with her life.
She did feel extremely uncomfortable on some level. She kept suppressing the desire to ask Alice questions about her answers, and she wasn't sure which of it was professional curiosity, and which parts were her wanting to know more about her friend. On top of that, she couldn't feel what Alice was feeling, which made everything a touch more awkward.
She bit her tongue. It was hard to not offer advice, or her friend help. But she didn't want to overstep any boundaries with Gemma. Emily had gone through the whole college application thing, and she would've found it much easier to do some of the application stuff if she'd had a friend to look through some of it with her.
Alice and Emily were very similar personalities on a lot of levels. She'd offer later, maybe.
Raising an eyebrow at Alice in amusement Emily bit her tongue again. The thought of Alice as an intern was all kinds of amusing.

Emily chuckled a little nervously. "I'll be honest, I don't really get all of that. Obviously I pick up on a lot of the attraction people feel for one another, but I'm not really attracted to many people myself, so the whole kink thing largely goes over my head." She admitted. Honestly, she thought that being demi made a lot of sense as an empath. When you had insight into what was going on inside people's heads, you were only very selectively attracted.
"Honestly, it was mostly people that knew me and it was largely a shift in the amount of attraction going my way." She shivered. "I suppose I've been in a class with most of them for over a year, and they sort of got used to one style, so when it shifted more of them payed attention to me?"
"Most people are highly superficial, you my dear are just a little more reasonable than most people I suppose." Emily swiped the rum for another quick swig. Now she was feeling the little giddy buzz that came from drinking. She'd gotten so used to just doing it for the numbing purpose, she'd forgotten how fun it could be to have a buzz around friends.
"Well it certainly sounds unique. And I care very little about how others look, as I'm sure you've picked up on by now." She admitted. She did find Alice to be a little cute, but that was probably because she actually liked Alice as a person, not that she'd admit any of that out loud.
"As long as the vibe isn't lame, I'm sure I'll be fine." Bars were a very mixed bag. She didn't like typical 'normal' bars, as they often tended to encourage depression and one night stands, which were not remotely fun to be around.

Anyone that asked Emily about her opinions on wider society, or most people she came across would get a spiel about societies many many issues, and how messed up the duplicity of most people was. She hated people, she really did. But not all of them were all bad, at least not all of the time. And she felt like this officer was probably one of those people.
"I understand, we'll look after him. Don't worry." Come to think of it, she'd heard tell of this whole people turning up younger thing going on around the mansion, though she'd been unsure of whether or not it was all just rumors. You couldn't really dismiss anything around there.
She quickly placed the business card her pocket, turning her attention more fully to the uncomfortable teen.
A shock she had not expected, and while she winced and drew back her hand it was immediately obvious that he'd not meant it so she didn't say anything. Shaking her hand a little, to pass the numbness Emily smiled at him. "It's okay, you didn't mean to."
"Take care officer." She had respect for the few decent police officers she met, it couldn't be an easy job.
Turning back to the teen one more time she gestured towards the mansion. "Well, shall we? I can get you settled, I'll show you around a little first and then we just have a bit of paperwork to do and we can get you a room."

Emily just caught the response as she finished moving around the desk, quickly scribbling a note and sticking it on the front. This seemed like something that needed to be dealt with right away.
As Emily walked towards the pair she noted the bracing cold and gently stuffed her hands into her coat pockets, trying to put on what she hoped was a welcoming smile, she sucked at smiling. Despite whatever Skye's wrong opinion on the topic might have been.
She withdrew her hand begrudgingly to wave at the officer as she neared the two of them. "Hello there Officer, I wouldn't worry about that. It's what the mansion is here for." The English girl raised an eyebrow at the officer, throwing what she hoped was a reassuring smile to the young man.
"Given that you have that there, I feel compelled to ask you if there is anything I need to be aware of, other than this young man being in need of a place to stay and get himself together?" The Officer was nice, that much was for sure. She wasn't picking up anything resembling duplicity from him. The kid seemed in awe, if a little nervous?
"Terribly sorry, where are my manors." She held out a hand to the boy. "William, my name is Emily."

Emily blinked slowly. That was... weird. The kid didn't look particularly aggressive, and the sergeant certainly seemed like he was being amicable with the teenager. She'd not had to greet a new person yet, but she was the person that was around to deal with it right this second, and she had some sympathy for a young, lost mutant.
She blinked slowly, glancing around the little papers and things around her. She scooped her jacket out of the corner it was sitting in and keyed again while she pulled it on. "Okay, that's not a problem. Would you like to come into the ground for a moment? I'm opening the gate for you now, and I'll meet you halfway. This is probably best dealt with face to face instead of over the intercom." If it hadn't been obvious from slightly distorted effect from the intercom, her very English accent would be clear enough in person.
Pulling the coat on she waited a moment for the reply, grabbing some keys and heading off down the hallway to the front and out into the grounds. She walked towards them, probably not looking too much like what one expected from a person working in a building that looked this fancy, given she was wearing a brown leather jacket, jeans and a blue jumper, clashing slightly with her purple locks. Sue her, it was comfortable.

Emily was in a tiny lull in college work between the end of the semester and the real start of the current one. She’d been putting in a few more hours at the mansion, it was largely that she wanted to make a little bit more money. Her dad would probably give her money whenever she asked, but it felt a little too much like taking advantage of the man, and her mother had done more than enough of that during her lifetime.
And as a result, her life was split between snuggling her girlfriend and doing work for Gemma. As she was getting pretty ahead on her work with Gemma, her boss suggested that she did some shifts in other areas of the mansion. Emily spent a little time assisting a teacher with one of the classes of younger kids, which went so well it surprised her. Teenagers were an absolute nightmare. Hormones were gross. But kids were on the whole surprisingly genuine and honest creatures.
Today however, she was helping out in administration. She’d forwarded calls to people and let in students that were coming back from trips into the city and made sure that ones leaving to go into the city would be fine. She felt like a glorified receptionist, and was honestly starting to get a little bored with sitting there all day.
The buzzer rang just after the guy she was assisting went on break. Someone was ringing the doorbell, another kid trying to get back in perhaps?
Emily keyed the buzzer and glanced at the monitor. That was a police officer… and a teenager. Great. This was going to end well. “Hello there officer, may I ask what we can do for you?” she pleaded that this was not some delinquent being dropped off that was going to annoy the crap out of her.

Snorting in equal derizion “You’re definitely queen of something, your highness.” She didn’t elaborate on what. It clearly wasn’t that she was Queen bitch, Emily still held that title. She wasn’t going to give it up to little blue haired temptresses, even if Alice could out nerd-cred her, Emily still had more of a rep at the mansion when it came to the younger people avoiding her.
Emily actually burst out laughing at the dominatrix comment. “Oh dear me Alice, how could anybody assume you’re a dominatrix? You clearly give off such a good-ey two shoes vibe.” sarcasm was one of the things Emily enjoyed most about being around Alice. It was an art that the Americans, in her opinion just didn’t have the innate skill for.
“I tend to avoid pressure where possible. It’s appreciated anyway.” Emily pondered aloud. “It’s funny the little difference a style change can make to people’s perception of you, you should have seen the looks, or felt the emotions of people in class after I did this.” She gestured to her now purple locks.
Alice had this annoying habit of making Emily smile, she just couldn’t keep up the facade too long around her. Laughter and smiles were just going to happen. This was what it was like having a best friend, she supposed. “What’s the place called then?”

"Nope. Not a clue. Nada." Oh god. She needed to keep Alice out of her closet real bad, she'd be teased until the end of time. Alice would be even worse than Skye, which was saying something. Skye's teasing was absolutely relentless, and it felt like Emily had just gotten more susceptible to it since they'd started dating.
Emily blushed again. She'd really not realised she was so obvious. Okay so she was sort of smitten, so it was bound to be picked up by somebody at some point but she'd not thought it would be so soon. Damn, she'd probably let Alice know that girlfriend teasing was a way to get to her. That was going to bite her in the ass pretty hard, knowing Alice. "You might actually, she's kept to herself around the mansion recently but I'm pretty sure she'd give you a run for your money with the gaming."
Emily had thankfully saved herself the awkwardness of getting thrashed by Skye so far, they mostly played something in coop or Emily snuggled her and watched Skye play something single player.
Raising an eyebrow Emily leaned into Alice a little. "Really, but you're such a master of flirtation, no luck? Poor baby." Nobody handled sarcasm like the British.
"Don't worry, funnily enough I'm pretty good at picking up on social ques." It was easy to see when people were uncomfortable, and then you just avoided their gaze no problem.
"No promises, if there is liquor I'm sure I'll manage though."

"All of my arguments are strong, always right, remember?" The gradual shift in Skye's total mood had been very noticeable since Emily had first met her. The Brit did wonder how much of it was the make over and just making an effort to go out and do her own thing, and how much of it was Emily's fault.
"I'm aware I'm attractive, people's glances and interest revealed that, it's more special coming from you though." Really, Emily saying that Skye was beautiful was pretty revealing of her feelings, given her orientation and all.
Emily smiled and suppressed another giggle as Skye started to doze off, she wriggled in a little closer and slowly closed her own eyes, happy to be in such close proximity to someone she adored, and being totally wrapped up in Skye's warm emotions made everything so blissful.
It took her a little longer than before due to the little bursts of excitement that went through her brain being near Skye, and over the whole situation, but inevitably she drifted off.
