The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

More than anything else, anger was washing over Malcom as he picked up on the man and what he was doing, his eyes narrowed towards the door. This was a tricky situation, where the people trying to harm his patient, or free him? And regardless would they try to harm the kids? He took a glance at Rianne and wandered how often she found herself in situations like this one, she was tense but under control. Colour him impressed.
Another spike of fear and confusion radiated from the area with the front desk. He grit his teeth and felt the emotions harden next to him, as Rianne drew her pistol he zoned her out and tried to wall off all of the fear and panic that was coming his way, noting that a lot of it was from the two young'uns that were with him he took a steadying breath and turned to the two of them. "Move back near the wall, stay calm. Everything will be fine, Officer Hunter here is well trained, she will help protect you. I'm sure there are more Officers on the way." He ordered and reassured in steadying voice.
He stood out of the Officer's way, but close enough to still maintain speech with her. "He's coming this way, one of them must have told him where Tony is." He whispered. It wasn't long before he could hear footsteps on the other side of the door.

Malcom picked up on the level of tension that was emanating from the woman and quickly checked on the two younger Doctor's, who were also now in the room with them, looking a little confused at the Officer that had accompanied Malcom into the room, he glanced over the charts one more time and set them down, turning to the two and giving them a reassuring smile. "The best we can do right now is monitor him closely."
The tension increased quite quickly and Malcom's eyes flashed over to the Officer, her hands were on her holster. He didn't know much about the ways in which the police here operated, but he suspected that her motions weren't good ones when it came to keeping the peace.
"Uhhhm, Dr Graves?" one of them asked in a shaky voice. Malcom turned his head and followed the kid's gaze, of course lining up with Officer Hunter's gun.
There was a little commotion further up the hallway, at the very edge of his range he could sense a large degree of fear and confusion. He tilted his head towards the Officer, stepping closer and lowering his voice a little. "Unless I'm mistaken, someone not too pleased has gotten inside, and is disconcerting the rest of the staff." He supplied quietly.

The surprise that registered in her face made him feel a little spike of internal guilt. He didn't advertise his power, he shouldn't have to and he knew he shouldn't. But still, he felt like the woman was in a bit of a tense emotional state, and it might be better to be forthcoming with her about things. "Sorry, I'm an Empath. Can't help it." He admitted to her, hoping she knew exactly what that meant, but then again most cops probably would.
He didn't argue with her. "I'm sure you did." He agreed sincerely, taking a large gulp of the caffeinated drink.
Starting to move towards the room, he blinked a few times, turning his head towards her at the last comment. "I thought there was something up. John was practically sweating bullets in there, definitely a good call not to advertise it around the residents though, some of them are just barely getting into this job." Malcom wasn't entirely thrilled with the prospect, but he had a pretty good reign on himself by this point, and chose to exercise that.
He lead her to the room and gestured towards the doorway. "This is the room, I thought a private room might be better, feeling that something was up." He admitted. He didn't wait for a response before pressing on inside, there was a nurse checking him over, Mal moved over and took a look, grabbing the man's charts and humming to himself. "Hmmm. Not much better, but at least he's not deteriorated", he murmured to himself as two of the younger Doctors in training moved in.

Immediately he had to curb some interest he took in her, picking up on her mixture of emotions. He knew what it felt like to be getting sized up at this point, but was perfectly okay with this. Lots of cops and law types tended to do that to people when they met them. It was like the way that he categorised emotional patterns and injuries that he noted on people when he first met them. Life tended to condition you that way.
He blinked at her, picking up waves of guilt and nerves bunched together. Okay, so she'd probably been the one to pull the trigger. And she evidently didn't want him dead. Mal quickly resolved that he liked this person.
"Well, officer Hunter, I'm sorry to tell you that we won't know for quite some time." He gestured a direction and began walking, assuming she'd follow. "We've done what we can for now but only time can tell." He paused to glance at her. "I'm sure this is hard for you, I'm sorry." He added more gently than what he'd said before.
He'd stopped at a vending machine to quickly grab a drink with caffeine in it and began drinking it. "He'll be moved to a private observation room, I'm about to head over there if you'd like to be near him."

Malcom and the others in the room surveyed the state of the victim they'd been working on. Quickly coming to the conclusion with one another that they'd done what they could for him so far, they agreed that they would need to monitor his condition closely over the next few hours to make sure that he was going to live through it. Malcom hated hard surgery. Especially after a day of work, he was drenched in sweat and his muscles were completely aching.
Thinking about nothing now but a glass of something cold and taking his feet off the ground he moved over to dispose of the gloves and make sure he was cleaned thoroughly before moving to the exit with the other Doctor as they pushed open the doors an urgent page began to ping on the elder's waist. He grimaced, glancing at Malcom, only to receive a grim nod in return. His replacement was still not here, and on top of that he'd have to keep an eye on the patient.
No way he was leaving this to the kids. He turned and moved back over to them, clearing his throat. "Get him into one of the observational rooms, we're going to keep an eye on him until he's out of the woods or..." He left that hanging before a thought struck him. This was a delicate situation. "Make sure it's one of the more private ones. I'll be along in 2 minutes, move." He took on a much more authoritative tone, making the residents quickly skip to it.
He stepped out into the lobby, glancing again at the women that was standing guard over it and giving her a glance before moving to grab a cup of water and quickly draining it and moving back to her. "Judging by the way you're dressed, I'm assuming you're an officer overseeing the situation, Maam?" he asked politely. He wasn't entirely sure what was going on, but police officers weren't entirely out of the norm when a shooting was involved.

Another snort followed her next comment. Man, some people were pretty clueless. "Hah!" grinning again. "That's what you think, having breasts gives you a much bigger advantage than having a PhD" He winked. It was clearly humourous and non-serious, he knew of people that genuinely thought that way. But Empaths had the advantage of not seeing people around them in black or white, they were way way more complicated than that.
Smiling again he patted her leg. "I know. I get that from them, if I thought the people here had bad intentions, do you think I would go out of my way after 12 hour shifts to come and patch the lot of you up?" he offered with a placating tone. "Hell, I've been dragged out of bed at 4am after getting off at 2 before, THAT is not something you do for people unless you have some serious faith in them."
Hmmm. Her inflection turned a lot more serious when he asked this question. Sometimes it would be interesting, he thought, to see inside people's heads more deeply like a telepath. Get a real good look at what their internal dialogue is like. On the other hand though, his manifestation was enough of a nightmare as it was, imagining how bad it'd have been with telepathy was enough to make anyone shudder.
"Thank you for explaining that." His tone, much deeper and more thoughtful than before. Rebecca's disposition made so much more sense now. "I understand."

Malcom really wanted to ask why this was so important, beyond any other normal patient in the building. A younger Doctor might have reacted harshly to that, suggesting that everyone's surgery was of equal importance, but Malcom knew that there were some tricky situations beyond just the individual. He'd also completed his residency under this Doctor, so he trusted his instincts and judgement.
Daring not distract the lead surgeon, he continued to do his part, making sure that there was enough room for them to work. In a few more moments they'd found the bullet. It was tense situations like this where he found himself reflecting on things, like how alien being hands deep in this much blood would have seemed to him a few years ago. Now his only real concern was whether or not he messed anything up here and put the man at further risk.
Blood, so much blood. "Clamp here." he directed one of the others as he moved his hands, trying very hard to avoid cramping. God, fatigue was a b****.
After another 20 minutes of intensive work, occasionally having his sweat dabbed by one of the other nurses they seemed to get most of the bleeding arteries under control, the pulse was getting pretty weak though. Malcom quickly started to stitch up the incisions they'd made with the others, moving towards the worst part of trying to save somebodies life. The waiting.

As the Doctor came back out and finished commenting to the kid that had come in to see him Emily wandered if it was a joke. Surely the students didn't try to come to the Doc for every kind of scratch and bump they gave themselves. It wasn't even obvious from his emotions, he radiated this kind of... warmth.
Oh, they were opening with jokes. Fantastic. Great. Emily felt her nails dig into the material on the side of the chair she was sitting in. Why was she even here? Why did she care so much? She'd only met Kendra a few weeks prior, and now she was this worried over her making a mess of herself.
They went into the office together, because if she'd come this far she could still offer some moral support, even if she was still absolutely seething. Emily nearly jumped when the Doctor started the healing process, not even from his sudden shift in emotions, but something else... She was picking up a shadow of Kendra's emotions, the various things going through her head when she did what she did the night before, as she'd acquired the injuries.
Biting down on her lip hard she threw Kendra a glance, looking back at the Doctor sensing his concern. Kendra reached out for Emily's hand to no avail. Doc Prof took a step back for a moment and looked at Emily, noting the look on her face. "Are you a sibling, or family?" He asked, in a gentle concerned tone.
"Girlfriend." Emily rasped curtly. In short order the Doc had finished healing Kendra and gave her a much firmer glance.
"Young lady, I cannot impress enough on you how dangerous what you did was. I know the X-men operate here, but they have training and coordination, you seem to have no such thing." He explained in a soft tone before gesturing at Em. "You need to think about the consequences of actions beyond just what might happen to you." Emily didn't think that one needed explaining.

Some people could have a pretty good sense for tension. Making comments about knives, and to which degree it can be cut with them. Malcom though, could actually feel the tension in the air as it were. The senior surgeon seemed to know something about this that Malcom didn't, he also felt this tight ball of it in the lobby outside. Something was amiss here, and he wasn't sure what. Was this person someone particularly important.
Quickly realising why nobody had said anything about it, he swatted those thoughts away so he'd not be too distracted. Gunshot wounds could be varying degrees of dangerous and difficult to deal with depending on where they connected, and this one was a doosey. One of the younger of the group, still in their residency seemed a little jumpy, too eager to prove themselves on their first big surgery, not approaching things with a clear head.
Luckily Mal's senior was pretty experienced and was taking the lead. "Dr Graves grab those forceps, get ready to apply here, hand me that scalpel." He listed off as Malcom got to work making sure that the wound was open enough after the other Doctor made an incision to actually get to work on it.
It was hard to keep his concentration, because there was a sense of foreboding and anger gathering outside, like a storm. Just what was going on?

He beamed when she responded in kind, blinking a few times. "Really?" he didn't usually meet all that many people who'd been to a Rocky Horror live show. This was fantastic! He was going to have a lot of fun around Cait if these were the types of things that she normally got up to with friends.
Her reaction to the photo had been pretty much what he'd expected, and he was quite pleased with that outcome. Even more so when she'd responded in kind with her own, letting out a burst of pleased laughter he looked closer at the photo. Smirking his head spun back to Cait. "It was not her I noticed first, you look pretty damn fine in a lab coat."
Picking up on her sympathy he grinned and leaned back again in the seat, hand meeting behind his head as he relaxed.
Wow. She was very open and genuine about her feelings on these things. That was good, if only because he sensed a lot of people being buttoned down around here. "Mhm, I sort of guessed that. You're just the type to do that, and I'm glad you have that outlook. Some vigilantes do what they do because it's an environment in which they can take a supposed moral high ground while hurting people, you X-men don't really give me that impression."
A thought struck him. "Wait, why are you all X-men...?" He blinked a few times. "Is it a sexist public image thing or something? I swear that like, at least two thirds of you are actually of the female persuasion." Tilting his head. "And isn't your leader a chick..." he mused. "I'm so confused."

Mal burst out laughing again, his throat was actually starting to get a little hoarse from the interaction, that was always a good sign when you were talking to new people. Even better, it was a sign that two people were becoming fast friends, which was indeed the case with the two of them. Well... That was unless your first interaction involved a lot of violent screaming or heated arguments, he supposed those could leave your throat drained as well.
"Mmmmm and I look just wonderful in tights or fishnets too~" He joked. Well. Kind of. "I don't suppose you've ever been to a live showing? It's tradition that you dress up." He quickly beamed and flickered out his phone, opening his social media to flick through and find an album of him and his college friends, a bunch of guys and gals dressed up in traditional rocky horror style. Malcom himself had some extra padding in the chest area. "Feast your eyes... on glory!"
Shaking head in exasperation Malcom replied. "You'd be surprised what going to school with a combination of angry and frisky teenagers will do to you when you can literally feel it." shuddering at the memory, more of himself and the way he dealt with it initially than the actual teenagers and emotions themselves.
He blinked a few times. Was it really interesting? "Oh! Well, I guess it's because after I manifested my power, at first it was overwhelming. But then the thing that really got me was... how much pain so many people were in just below the surface, where they wouldn't or.. couldn't show it." He responded thoughtfully before adding "And I wanted to take away from that in some way, or just positively contribute to people's lives." Gesturing with his hands down at the hospital. "This is how."

It was nearing the end of his shift. Most days, he didn't tend to count down the minutes. Especially considering there was this awful tendency whenever he did it for something to go completely fubar, but today he realllly needed this shift to not drag on for longer. He had a date with someone for the first time in he couldn't even remember how long. It was a lovely lass that one of his old university mates had set him up on a blind date.
He was basically bouncing on his heels when the 10 minute mark got there. One of the nurses turned to him and asked why he looked like he had ants in his pants. "First date. Long time." He rasped, quickly grabbing a large gulp of water. This elicited a chuckle from a few nearby people, who immediately started joking about Mal dating trolls, and them rejecting him because they always looked too much alike. Wise-asses.
Taking one's break at the end of a shift was a really odd experience. Reflecting on this he continued to take sips of water to re-hydrate and scribble at paperwork in the break room until he heard a commotion. "Oh. Nonononono." He mumbled.
The door swung open, a middle aged Doctor peeking in and grimacing at him. "Your replacement's not here yet Mal, I need you to scrub in for me." He quickly dropped before swiftly turning and moving out of the doorway. As the door swung closed and Mal's jaw hang ajar he caught a glimpse of a gurney blasting past with a lot of padding. And red. Dr Malcom Graves was on his feet faster than people who'd known him in his childhood could have thought possible.
Grabbing fresh gloves after washing his hands and disinfecting he quickly stepped past a female standing near the door way in a guarding position and moved into the operating theater. "What've we got, chief?" He asked briskly, moving into the fray. Damn. Emotions were running high on this one.

Emily didn't say much on the walk down. She wanted to reach over and squeeze her nervous girlfriend's hand for reassurance but firstly she wasn't entirely sure which pats of her hurt, and which parts didn't. And then there was the fact that if she was being entirely honest with herself... She was still kind of mad. Still seething, really. But Emily was pretty good at controlling herself once she recognised an emotion in herself.
Emily had never actually met the Doctor herself, she tended to avoid injuries. And she relied more on an inordinate amount of painkillers for her headaches than mutants. She didn't need to be around judgmental medical professional emotions, no thank you. She'd much rather rely on her best friend Mr Jack Daniels and some glorious cola.
She was glancing at the doorway suspiciously, trying really hard to suppress emotions from herself and the others around her, before she realised she'd left Kendra hanging a few moments. Blinking a few times she sat down next to Kendra. "Sorry love, I just spaced out there somewhat." She replied softly before the Doctor came out and took the other student into his office to be seen to. She couldn't help but read him and... He was warm.
It actually took her aback a little bit. That a mutant who dealt with so much pain could be so kind and gentle.

Mal really tried not to laugh or snort at patients, he really did. But sometimes.... "Hah! Well I'm not one to judge others on recreational activities, considering I expose others to my beautiful singing voice" He sarcastically rolled off. "But, I must say that building hopping sounds like an activity that might cost you a few too many precious brain cells." With that he winked at the man and reached for a light anesthetic gel.
He got a brace out and the nurse placed it gently on the shoulder as Mal set up the gel to one side. The idea here was that doing the arm first would make the second part of cleaning him up feel considerably less uncomfortable my comparison. They handed Nolan a brace to bite down on as they moved to set the dislocated shoulder back into place.
"Okay good. I'm just going to clean up the cuts and give you a light local Anesthetic while we stitch it up for you." He explained as he dabbed a cotton bud, and then followed it up with a disinfectant dabbed bud, cleaning it out gently before applying the gel and getting to work the the stitches and moving it gently through the wound, maintaining conversation to help distract the man that was no doubt in a lot of pain from it.
"So Nolan was it? What do you do for a living, I can't imagine getting plastered and diving off of buildings pays very well." The Brit joked.

More hearty laughter followed her comment. She really was an intriguing girl, nobody he knew, nobody, was this cheerful. Malcom wondered how stable she was mentally, because it was a little bit hard to believe anybody had this much happiness just pouring out of them all the time. Nobody was this consistent, she was like a fictional character somebody had come up with just to fill a room with sunshine.
"Oh great! The internet needs more beautiful smiles on it, I bet I can get a fan base the size of Tom Hiddleston's with this jaw~" He grinned.
Heh. Feeling her reaction before she was speaking he was pleased to see he'd guessed about right. Some people with particularly strong emotions were easier for him to read. And Cait was somewhat of an open book truth be told. Not that this was in any way a bad thing. "As a matter of fact it was, when I was younger. It made me a little bit angsty and grumpy for a while but I got over it and learned to deal with it in the end."
Smiles blossomed once more. "Actually, it's a great deal of help when you're treating patients, you'd be surprised at the number of Doctor's who are clueless about people's feelings. Lucky me with my unfair advantage~"
