The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

It quickly became apparent that Michael was a much better problem sleuth than Lenna could hope to be. He must have been part bloodhound. Or maybe he'd simply had more experience tracking people down than her. In her days as a hit-girl, she'd done it plenty. In those cases, the victims had been high-profile. It had been easy. This wasn't. She'd never gone hunting, and learned to sniff out clues.
When the Ranger started barking, and pointing to each and every sign, Lenna looked. She nodded. She followed, appreciatively.
Did she know anything about gorgons... no. "I haven't heard about them," Lenna replied. Her education had been in practical topics, such as reading, writing, foreign languages, and self defense. Anything beyond the basic realms of her training, she'd had to discover herself. If Andrea had asked about classic American movies, or brought up philosophy, she'd have been able to contribute to the discussion. Cowboys and super heroes, sure... but fairytales...
Of fairytales, she had no inkling.
"What's a gorgon?"
She didn't feel dumb for not knowing. It just hadn't been in the cards.
Lenna didn't answer that question. Lori had arrived. What a delightful diversion. "Hey," she said, giving Lori a two-finger salute. "Meld here lost her memory. I found her walking the streets, unsure... I thought we could figure out who or what caused it, and do something to fix it. If someone does this to one of our own..." She gravely shook her head.
Lenna turned to look towards the metal-armed mutant, remembering her. "Meld, this is Lori. The boss."
"Maybe he wasn't in the right mind to know how..." Lenna trailed. Or maybe he wasn't alive anymore... she didn't know many who could survive a crash like that. Lenna paused. That was a bad thought. She hoped it wasn't what had happened. She took another quick glance around the scene for anything else of note. There wasn't much. The police might have taken it all away.
"Anything else you see that'd point us in a direction?" She really wasn't a detective. The best she could do was guess.
Human meat? Yikes. Lenna made a note never to give Aura any reason to eat her. This girl had a rather unique perspective on humanity, that was certain.
And a way with words, judging from how she handled the sell. Lenna watched intently, taking mental notes from the pro in action. She followed Aura into the living room, smiling all the while.
The man looked over the paperwork.
"I see," he replied. "Interesting. Where do I sign?"
~*~
A short while later, the two walked out the door, one sell richer. Lenna looked to Aura. "I'll handle the next one. Where to?"
"Almost like Mars in full Red mode," Lenna finished, narrowing her eyes at the dent. She held her chin. "Hrm... seem to remember him making a big deal about one of his brothers not picking up when he called them the other day... think maybe one found you?"
If so, why hadn't Mars called them about it? You'd think they'd be right on top of that. Strange.
>> "Um... it was around where I live... the school for Mutants." "I do not think you would want to meet him however. A friend and I found him robbing a house..."
Robbing a house... well, yeah. One couldn't assume all Adapteds were on the straight and narrow like her. Heh. Lenna listened to Andrea's account with a look of innocent interest. This really was interesting. It was good to hear there were more of her popping up. And near the mansion, too. She'd have to look into that some time... or at least, tell Slate.
And it seemed this one, too, had a stronger aura than her. Lenna donned a surprised look when the girl told her she thought Lenna had more control than the one she'd met. Lenna bit her lip.
"Hmm..." She trailed. "That'd be nice... if only I could make it go away." Her eyes dropped. "Weakening other mutants... sometimes, it's hard on them. I can't go near some people without affecting their lives..."
Angst, drama, Adapteds. She kept up the act for a moment, then moved on with a hint of embarassment for speaking too much.
>> "It is a pleasure to meet you though, Molly."
"Likewise," She looked up.
Mr. Antonescu suggested they enter the meditation room, and Lenna agreed. She took a few steps back, and made room for Andrea to enter. "What is your power, Miss Andrea? If I may ask...?"
Now came the part where they took her home, yes? Lenna nodded to the panther man, and turned to face down the hallway. She started walking, left the rest to him.
Meet you in the van, She thought.
Things had gone smoothly. Smoothly enough they could set Henrietta free. She sat down in the driver's seat, and waited. When the time came, she drove them off to the drop point.
This had been a long day. It'd be an even longer night.
((OOC: Whoever wants to can describe the drop. Feel free to godmode the candy van where ever you'd like.))
>> "It's what stock cars use t' do back when they had doors. It's safer at high speeds t' insure they cain't open."
But this wasn't a stock car, was it? Lenna inwardly shrugged the thought off. It didn't matter. All that mattered... was getting the door open so they could get a clue as to where that crazy body had gone. This brought her to her next question...
Her reply had... not been what she'd expected. The Ranger slid right into the window, as easy as Southern flags and apple pie. Lenna blinked, and mentally refrained from uttering the comment 'men'.
>> "I believe this was yours."
"Mhm," Lenna pocketed it. "So, someone must have used this... wonder if that had any bearing on whether or not the car crashed?"
Her eyes dropped to the jerky wrapper, then swung to the interior of the shop. A bloody polka dotted brassiere sat all alone on the floor a ways in.
"It looks like it hit something before the window," She noted, pointing out the dent in the front bumper. "That'd usually be less prominent, if all they hit was glass. Looks almost..." She paused. It almost looked Mars-sized. "Hmm..."
Lenna nodded. "Yeah. You know her. She's kind of our boss. If nothing else, I figure we'll be able to refresh your memory. She knew you better than I did," One would assume. If nothing else, they could make stuff up~
"Hold on a second. I'll call up Lisa to let her know we're nearly there." Lenna said. She reached into a pocket, and produced her cellphone. The Sanctuary was dialed. Lenna got Lisa's voice. She turned to the side, and spoke quietly into the phone. "Yeah. It's me, Lenna. Meld's with me. Can you let Lori know to meet us by the entrance? We're on our way. Should be there soon. I'll explain everything when we arrive. Thanks." She hung up.
Lenna turned back to Meld. She offered a thin smile.
They reached their destination a short while later. The train stopped, the two got off, and Lenna led Meld to the Sanctuary by foot, through crowds. The Sanctuary loomed overhead as they approached it, tall and imposing with its golden doors.
The two entered. Lenna alerted Lisa to their presence.
"She'll be with you shortly," was the secretary's reply.
>>"Permanently. The doors're welded ta the frame. You have ta go in through the windows.
"... Why would you even?" Ugh. That thought gave her a momentary headache. "What good is a door if you can't get in through it...?" It just didn't make sense. Ugh... Lenna shook her head.
"Alright. Is there a way we can get in there without looking stupid? I think I see something..." Maybe the police hadn't seen the TASER under the seat? Maybe they hadn't figured out how to get into the car?
>>"I have met another with a power like yours before... Not to long ago actually."
Surprise played out naturally on the Adapted's face. "You have?" She said. More urgently, with the followup. "Where?"
If this woman had met another Adapted, she'd want to know about it. For a moment, the scenario escaped her. Then, she recovered, and played it off as part of the character. "I want to meet someone like that..." Her voice dropped. "Maybe, they know how to control their mutation a bit better than me..."
The woman apologized, and held out a hand.
>>"I am Andrea.."
Lenna smiled weakly, meeting the handshake. "Molly." She paused, then continued apprehensively. "I was just going, but after this... I feel like I should stick around a bit longer, and explain my power... and maybe you could tell me more about this 'person like me'?" Lenna asked uncertainly.
Meld asked as they walked. Lenna kept up her pace. "I don't. I live in an apartment in the city. It's easier that way. Powers," She added the last word as her sole reason for off-site living. It was a good one.
She brushed through the crowd, and dropped into the subway. Paid the fare, led Meld on. They got on the rattling bullet train, and shot onwards, towards Sanctuary. Lenna sat on the train, a fair distance from Meld. She looked up.
"When we get there, I'm contacting Lori. Maybe she'll be able to help us sort this out."
Cab hit Miata. Well, that's one way to keep them busy... Lenna mentally trailed.
>> "We might only have a few minutes, shall we?"
Lenna ducked under the police tape, and entered the scene. "We shall."
And so, the pair set to playing the role of Sherlock Holmes. They knew what had happened. It was more difficult to piece together how it occurred. Lenna peered through the door of the wrecked wreck, and stuck her hand to feel around. Nothing. She went around to open one of the doors. It wouldn't. Lenna tugged. She looked to female Michael.
Another mutant, affected by her aura. Lenna wore the expression of shock and dismay. This was supposed to be embarrassing for the character she was playing! She had to sell it.
"Omigawd..." Eyes, wide, locked on once-green skin. Lenna frowned at the girl she'd bumped.
The girl beat her to the apology punch.
>>"I...um, sorry again, I got sent in and...I-... I just was not paying enough attention.."
The girl offered her a gloved hand. Lenna took it. She worked her way to her feet, stabilizing herself on the doorway.
"I'm the one who should be sorry..." Lenna said. "My mutation..."
"I'm alright..." She looked to Mr. Antonescu. "Just embarrassed..."
