The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Max looked back to see the man following him but he didn't slow down. He made his way through the trees, his focus behind him. The man rolled out of the way as a hatchet handle flew at him and Max found that the guy was light on his feet. He saw a quick motion and the handle was flying back, despite the hooded man being too far to reach it.
"A mutant?" Max thought as he turned to look where he was going.
He didn't see the handle kill the man, which was probably a good thing. Max had never killed anyone and the sight would have majorly freaked him out. Instead his focus was on brick wall ahead of him.
The wall marked the edge of the park and once over it the subway entrance would be right on the other side. Max used his ability, lowering gravity, and vaulted upward. He soared eight feet up and landed on the ledge of the wall. He dropped to his stomach and offered his hand down for the hooded man being chased. He could see the two figures in pursuit barreling after him.

The silence hung in the air for a moment after Max shouted at the legion. He didn't dare look over at Agnes for fear of breaking chracter.
"FOR THE BAR! FOR THE GRILL!" The Spartans shouted.
Max had never in his life had a chance to give a cliche move speech. He was half startled and half amused as he got down from the table and shook Leonidas' arm. The man embraced him and Max had to flex every muscle in his body to stop himself from letting out a cry of pain. The bear hug ended and Max couldn't help but tube thankful that he hasn't decided to fight.
Agnes approached looking like she was doing her best to keep a straight face. Max avoided making eye contact as he fought to stay in character.
-”I think you made a friend, Max,”
Max looked up at her and smiled as Leonidas called his brothers to drink and prepare for war. They moved about paying Max and Agnes. O mind as they began to gather for their pre war feast.
"First rule of performance- know your audience." He smiled, "Come on."
He lead her past the bikers who as he walked into the back clamped him on the shoulder, or extended am arm for a shake. They treated Max as a brother in arms. He reached the back door of the clubhouse and exited, waiting for Agnes. He shut the door to the place and looked over into the new alley they were in. He grabbed a pipe laying in the trash and slid it through the door handle just to be safe.
He started laughing as he put his shirt on. Earnest whimsical laughter.
"I can't believe that actually worked. I was like 90 percent sure he was about to smack me across the face with a baseball bat." He was having a bit of trouble breathing.
He heard a loud smash ring out from the street the alley was connected to, a voice rang out.
"Help!" It cried.
Max looked at Agnes, his laughter fading.
"Man busy day, CLASS doesn't give you much down time huh?" He said as he walked towards the noise to see what was causing the commotion.

Cafas was....well the dude was cool. There were very few other words that came to mind as Max saw him walk forward to take the second round. He hadn't been impressed by Max's run on round one, but that was to be expected. This guy was an X-men. He was on a very different level.
This was evident even more as Max watched his run. Cafas even randomized the run. Max watched with earnest curiosity as the buzzer rang out and Cafas entered the fray. The metabots in the Danger Room were nerfed from their real life counterparts, Max knew that, but seeing the ease with which Cafas dispatched the Bots guarding the door Max couldn't help but be startled.
He entered the building with a small blaze if fire that had once been a pair of metabots behind him. A holographic screen appeared in front of Max, displaying a real time map of the structure Cafas was in as well as a camera feed of his run. What was this guy?
He tore through Bots like it was nothing, exploiting weaknesses in their joints and system that Max had never heard of. He didn't know what the Xman's mutation was, as far as he could tell Cafas hadn't even used an ability yet. He reached the fifth floor and grabbed the case.
Max didn't have to watch the display to see two Bots be tossed out the window of the building and smash into the street in front of him. He heard impacts and then silence. Shortly after which Cafas exited the building and a buzzer sounded.
"Unbelievable." Max thought to himself.
So this was what a real warrior fought like. Max had been in his fair share of scraps, heck he even studied martial arts, but this pink haired guy had blasted through a dozen or so Bots in three minutes and all he had to show for it was a couple of scratches.
He was pulled from his thoughts as the case skid in front of him and Cafas spoke. The timer was down to thirty seconds now and Max picked up the heavy case.
"Sure, it be a waste not to try out a team run." Max agreed.
The buzzer sounded and about a block away on top of a building Max saw a bright red contraption form. It was huge, taking up the entire roof of the place. Metabots spewed out of the thing, propelling themselves on jet packs.
"Level Three. "Place charges and detonate to destroy enemy assembly. Begin."
Max opened the case and saw a small box with a big red button on it that he took out. The rest of the case was full of tiny white blocks Max assumed were explosives with wires running to a small device in the center.
He shut the case and picked it up as a small crowd of Bots appeared at the end of the street. He turned to look at Cafas.
"What do you say? I go high you go low?" He asked.

The circle of people around him didn't matter. The applause didn't matter. What mattered was the music. Kendra pointed out the watchful eyes on the pair. He wondered if she was nervous from all the attention. Maybe she was used to being invisible, blending in as she dreamwalked, but tonight she wad on display.
-"You're pretty popular."
"Hey it takes two to tango. They're just as interested in you." He grinned.
The music changed, the regea tones filling the night air. Kendra released Max's hand and he allowed his power to drop. As the crowd eyed her expectantly he saw her start to dance. The new style of music was faster and more chaotic. It made dancing to it easy.
Max threw his arms up and allowed his body to twist and sway with the music as the drums pounded and the music sang. He made a quick trip around the circle letting Kendra be the focus. As he completed his circuit he slid back into the middle on his knees, landing at his date's feet. He allowed the best to dictate his movement as he planted a hand behind himself and threw his legs out, framing Kendra. Two quick pops and he rose up in front of her grinning.

Mirror's explanation made sense concerning his revival. It was comforting to have somone who had gone through the same thing he was currently dealing with. Her statement raised a single question in Max's mind though and he asked before he could over think it too much.
"So how did you die and come back?" He said.
It was the strangest question he had ever asked. It was like something you would expect to read in one of those hip church newsletters in a dumb article named "An Interview with Jesus." What a complicated world they lived in now.
She informed him of him of what kind of logistics he had to deal with now and he felt a wave of panic at the mention of contacting his family. He and his parents had not been on the best of terms since he moved to the city, in fact the last conversation he had had with his dad had been something like; if you're going to waste your life with your head in the clouds you can do it without me.
He had been gone for a year, they would have been here dealing with his death for a year. Emotional baggage aside his dad was a doctor, people just didn't come back from the dead. He would want answers.
"We can update my status and check storage but I'm not contacting my family." Max said, "lots of bad blood and for now I think letting them have some closure is fine."

The room exploded into noise as panels opened and the room was bombarded with arrows. Max dropped his gravity field and ducked, trying to make himself as small a target as possible. Arrows slammed into the table, the thick wooden shafts vibrating from the impact. After a tense moment he heard Agnes' voice from across the room.
-You alright?”
"I'm good." He called, peering over the table.
- ”Rule number one, check all your surroundings.”
He stood up from behind his makeshift barricade and gave her a thumbs up.
The door bursts open and Max felt his jaw drop. The group of men that came in looked like movie stars, probably because they were. Apparently CLASS pulled resources from pop culture for its drills. They looked like a mismatch of time periods with their helmets of bronze and biker gear. The lead Spartan stepped up.
“Who dares!?” Biker!Leonidas shouted! “This. Is. SPARTA…sports bar and grill…”
"Seriosuly?" Max thought.
Agnes intruded Max to the gang and informed him exactly where he was trespassing. For a second his fight or flight instinct told him to charge the men, but a nagging thought held him back.
Agnes had said this was to see what he was capable of, to test how he reacted to different situations. Not every situation needed to be smashed through. Max should play to his strengths, and above all else Max was a performer. Time for some acting.
He lept into the nearest unturned table and in one fluid motion pulled off his shirt with his right hand. He wasn't nearly as built as the group of men before him but years of dance had given Max lean strong muscle.
"Spartans!" Max bellowed to the room.
He looked at the lead spartan and inclined his head slightly.
"I come from the Athens....Barbecue Pitt with a warning. The Persian Diner is plotting against you. I heard them planning a strike on your establishment." He called.
He held the gaze of the bikers and continued his ploy.
"They also said motorcycles are lame and for sissies. I seek safe passage through your establishment so I might gather my forces to aid you." He proclaimed.

Kendra bravely walked him out onto the dance floor as they made their way to the edge of the ocean of bodies moving in rythme. She seemed confident and Max felt a rush of excitement as she let go of his hand and started dancing.
Kendra was sweet, intelligent, and beautiful...but a dancer she was not. He gave her credit for her effort as she twisted about, enjoying herself. He raised an eyebrow curiosly, was she trying to make him smile? Or was she simply unaccustomed to salsa music. She smiled at him.
- "Come on show me what you got. I'm sure you've got a few moves."
He gave her a devilish grin and raised one hand over his head in rythme with the beat. Latin flavor was one of Max's favorite dance influences. He offered his other hand to Kendra.
Before she could take it he spun, turning himself so he landed behind her facing her back. His hand went onto the back of her neck and he used his power in her, making her light as a feather. With a twist of his hand he spun her to face him. His right arm landing on the small of her back, the left grabbing her free hand. He pressed himself against her, moving to the rythme and guiding her. With his power active it made her an easy partner.
He lead her through the crowd, a simple task despite the numbers when you flow with the music and moved towards the center of the dance floor. He found a pocket of free space and guided Kendra to it. He moved his right hand and spun her with his left out so his arm was fully extended and then back in and into a deep dip.
As he raised her back up he placed both hands firmly on her back and smiled.
"You tell me? Do I have moves?" He said with a wink.

-"Not often. We are actually here tonight to talk to people about Haven. Mostly work, and some entertainment." she added with a smile, nodding towards the stage "How about you? What brings you here?"
Haven huh? So he had stumbled upon some more of Devon's people. As he looked at the two beautiful women he could understand why Devon would want them there working the crowd, making contacts. If he was a potential donor to the organization these two seemed like they could get him to write a check.
"Well to be honest much the same myself. Got an invitation from Devon to come and talk to people. Though the entertainment was a big part of saying yes. Man I wish I was up there." Max admitted looking at the stage.
How many people had Devon invited to this event to promote Haven? Max gave the room a quick glance, looking for any signs of other members. It was a waste really, it wasn't like they all had signs on. He took a drink of his champagne.

As Max listened to Agnes explain her ability he had to admit it was quite remarkable. Walking into a fight with a swarm of insects having your back seemed like a pretty solid battle plan. Max let out a sigh of relief as Agnes turned around and reabsorbed the insects back into herself. He appreciated her looking away, seeing the bugs come out had been intense but seeing them go back in? Max gave a little shudder at the thought.
She called out to the CLASS system and the room began to shift around them. Max had gotten acclimated to the process from his experiences with the Danger Room but he always felt a sense of wonder as the area around him morphed and changed. He found himself in a dirty alley, looking forward at a run down bar. He'd done urban before in the Danger Room, but this felt more real somehow.
-”Welcome to CLASS. We’ll start you out easy, okay? This is more just to get a gauge on what you can do. There is no pass fail here.” She gestured towards the bar. ”Why don’t you lead the way? But...be on your toes, okay? Even at Level 1, these things can hurt.”
Max felt a wave of nerves run through him. Playful demonstration was fun, but now he was looking at the practical exam. Sometimes it drove Max crazy trying to find ways to utilize his ability in training scenarios. His ability was adaptable, but very circumstantial. He always had to be aware of what was around him, what he could use to defend him.
"Well here goes nothing." He said giving Agnes a thumbs up.
He lowered gravity on himself to almost nothing, barely letting his feet touch the dirty alley floor. He was wary of traps, being presented such a straight forward path. He cautiously made his way to the door of the bar.
The windows were blacked out and one was covered with wood, making it impossible to see inside. He edged over to the door and pushed it open, clearing the doorway as he did. The door swung open and Max waited pressed against the doorframe. After a moment of silence he peeked.
The place was dusty and run down, it was a decent sized room with table sand chairs scattered about. In the back was the bar with stool in front of it and off to the left was a doorway that Max assumed led into the back.
"Clear." He called out to Agnes.
He took a step inside and felt his foot catch on something. As his shoe touched the wood of the floor he saw a wire snap under his boots. He heard the click of some kind of mechanism trigger. Well damn.
"Wire!" He called out.
He rolled forward, his weightlessness carrying him far into the room. He smacked into a table and pull it down between him and the door.

In response to his question Kendra stood and kissed him. It was a quick kiss, but a passionate one. He felt his pulse quicken in response isn't it strange how you can get an answer without the person ever speaking a word. She pulled away from him and excused herself to go freshen up. The waiter came by and Max asked for the check. He produced it from his apron and Max looked it over, handing him a wad of bills as his mind was elsewhere.
"Keep the change." He mumbled absentmindidly.
Things were apparently going better than he had ever hoped. Max felt a burst of frustration rum through him. He couldn't bring Kendra back to the apartment through Haven security and he doubted that the mansion was a nice private place to uhhh....talk. he felt like a pent up teenager again loving at home under mom and dad's watchful eye.
The waiter returned and cleared the plates. Max had made some plans for the evening, and given the lack of alternative he figured it was best to stay the course. If things intensified, if they found themselves too far in the throws of things he would come up with a solution then. For now he took a calming breath and smiled as Kendra returned looking as spectacular as he remembered.
She asked if he was ready and he stood.
"Absolutly." He replied.
They walked out and he hailed another cab. As they entered he placed his hand on Kendra's leg and grinned.
"I have a surprise. I wanna take you somewhere special." He told her.
He gave the driver an address and after a quick drive exited outside a massive warehouse. Max walked to the door and opened it.
"Trust me?" He asked as he entered.
Inside the place was full of poeple and noise. Max had heard about the party from some patrons while at Inferno and the warehouse had been decked out for the occasion.
It was a Mexican Fiesta extravaganza. Stalls stood in the warehouse with food, hats, sashes and all the Spanish flare you could imagine. Red streamers and lights hung from the railings of the balcony that ran around the interior of the building creating a canopy of color and illumination.
An entire half of the warehouse was a dedicated dance floor and a live band played salsa music as tons of people danced. Couples danced in the frenzy of the sensual tones while others moved about giving unto the beat. Max laughed, now here was a place he could let loose.

The quiet night around him was calming. He could hear the rustle of the leaves above him in the trees. He focused on his body, on the flow of energy through them. He was calm, in a state of mental peace. Maybe there was something to this martial arts stuff.
-"Hey"
Someone was shouting. His bubble of focus popped and Max opened his eyes and looked for the source of the outburst. He saw a hooded figure running his way.
-"Hey. Run"
The man was shouting. Behind him off in the distance Max saw three men in suits chasing the man. "What is up with this city?" Max thought as he saw the pursuit. He saw one of the suites figures extend his arm. There was a silvery flash of moonlight in the night air and Max saw a hatchet smack into a tree beside the hooded man.
"Oh shi-" Max began.
The running man kicked the hatchet and snapped the handle. Max took a reactionary step away from the group and fell off the side of the rock. He nullified gravity around himself and broke his fall as he lost sight of the men behind the stone.
"That man needs help." Max thought.
"Not my problem." A voice in his head responded.
"But those guys will kill him." He thought back furiously.
"And? Once again not my problem." The voice repeated.
Max took a deep breath. When you had a chance to do good, to help someone, and you didn't do it you were just as responsible as the person causing the problem.
"Alright. Go be a hero....idiot." His inner jerk replied.
Max zipped up his hoodie and popped the hood up. The man being chased had the right idea. Last thing Max wanted was to have hatchet wielding lunatics know what he looked like. Max ran out from behind the rock.
"This way." He shouted.
He tore across the path and into the trees. He could weave through the woods here and make his way way to the 7th Street subway entrance. The crowd might help the man lose his pursuers.

The violinist gave him a polite reply and introduced Max to her friend. The woman was wearing long elegant gloves and Max felt she looked quite regal. Max felt bad for intruding on their conversation and turned to Agnes' companion.
"Nice to meet you Sveta. Hope you feel better." He said pleasantly.
He stood awkwardly for a moment. Being in a tux surrounded by the rich and influential Max tried not to feel out of place. He was nobody, as much as he hated to admit it he knew it was a fact. He had dreams of being an actor, of being somebody that poeple recognized, but for the time being he was simply a young man who was here because he had friends in higher places than himself.
"Do you guys attend things like this often?" He asked, "To be honest I feel like a fish out of water. The entertainment is nice but I don't really know what to do with everyone just mulling about talking politics."
He gave an earnest laugh. At least he was making an effort. That was all he really could do. Devon wanted support in making contacts for Haven and as Max stood with his fellow members, oblivious to the fact that he was with fellow Havenites he tried to put on a brave face.

Agnes complimented Max's demonstration and he gave a pleased smile. He wasn't used to compliments, especially about his mutation. Most of his life he had made it a point to keep it hidden. Letting loose without fear of judgement felt good.
She gave him a warning about her ability and Max stood and watched her. The tension held in the air as Max watched her and waited. There was something amazing about the moment between when you knew someone was a mutant and when they displayed their power. It was a moment of endless possibility where for just a fleeting second you allowed yourself to truly believe anything was possible.
The buzzing started. At first Max thought it was just hie ears until it continued to grow louder and louder. The sounded resched its crescendo and Max started to see what was going on. His stomach turned as waves of bugs expelled from Agnes' body. They spewed from her mouth and her limbs split open revealing more and more of them. His head swam for a moment when the giant centipedes rolled out.
It was terrifying and for a moment all Mac could do was stand in shock and horror as the plague of insects buzzed and hissed. As she floated upward Max could see the majesty of it though.
He had been mocked, insulted, even beat up for being a mutant back in his home town. Labeled a freak and an outcast. It had given him an appreciation for those that were different. Everyone had worth, everyone had merit, and as he looked at Agnes he saw her for what she was. A Queen. She was the host and leader of this swarm and as strange as it was it was something to behold.
She explained her power and Max applauded slowly.
"Absolutly incredible. Don't get me wrong it makes my skin crawl a little bit to be honest but I've never seen anything like it," He smiled, "Do you feel them while their inside you?"
The idea of feeling millions of bugs crawling under his skin made Max feel itchy but he ignored the psycho somatic sensation. He didn't want to be on the receiving end of the swarms hostility but tool a step forward. The insects hissed in protest and Max stopped.

Max deflated slightly at the reminder of his circunstance. It was true, he should probably be focusing on the issue at hand. It was just like him to get swept up in the moment when it came to dancing.
"You make a good point. It's hard to believe this but after getting some grub I feel good, really good. Is that normal?" He asked.
Even as he said it he could feel nervous energy pulsing through him. He knew he should probably be more somber but his body wouldn't comply. It was like it knew he had been inactive for a long time and wanted to get up and make up for the lost experiences.
He didn't have a reference for this feeling. Sudden revivals weren't something you experienced everyday after all. Max tried to put a pin in his enthusiasm, there would be plenty of time to burn off this manic energy later.
"We can take a rain check on that. So oh great and powerful spirit guide what do I need to do? Is there a form I fill out when I suddenly find myself back in the land of the living?" He joked.

Max let out a light chuckle as she put her optimistic spin on his life. She always seemed to do that, take a bad situation and make it sound like a positive. He took a bite of Los lasagna which was spectacular. He could see why the resturant was so pricey.
-"So, could you give me a tour of this Haven place? Is that allowed?"
There was a subtle change in her tone as she asked, like a unspoken offer of something. She held Max's gaze and it was like a sultry fire was burning behind those beautiful eyes. The real answer was a hard no. He'd be facing some major trouble if he snuck someone into Haven. The "and Max Rosewood was never seen again kind" but as Kendra sipped her water, somehow making even that menial task look sexy as hell his primal side said to hell with the consequences. Luckily he wasn't a prisoner to his desires. She took his hand and he smiled.
"I don't know about a tour. The facility is mostly just boring offices and apartments. The Inferno club is where the real fun is. It's members only but I can invite guests to the place. I'll have to take you sometime." He added.
Hoping he had properly dodged the question Max leaned forward across the table. He gave his best knowing smirk.
"What is going through that head of yours?" He said slyly.
