The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Hey, sometimes the stupid things were fun. A lot of other mutants she'd spoken with had been involved in crazy hijinks. Powers and boredom were an interesting, volatile combination.
Darkshift's preoccupation did not go unnoticed. Squinting, Glitch stole a look at the entrance herself. With the glare on the windows, it was hard to see anything. But, now that she was listening, she could hear muffled sounds coming from outside. “Sounds like something's going on out there,” she whispered. “Crap, it might be the META.”
Glitch stayed put in her seat. She didn't want to tangle with that thing if she could help it, and making a scene would just attract its attention.
One by one, the recovered pieces went back into the box. That appeared to be it for those in the room. Glitch moved on to the hallway and started searching the floor for the rest of them. Distracted, she wasn't yet aware of the other person's presence.
That was, until they spoke up. Glitch nearly jumped out of her metal shell when they did. “Holy-” Crap. It was her first day, and she was starting to make a fool of herself. “Yeah, I'm good,” she responded with haste. “Just dropped something.”
Jack the shrimp woman security guard. Though the gender was a bit of a surprise, that should be easy enough to remember.
“I'm Glitch,” she replied. “Well, Gladys, really, but who the hell names their kid that?” Sorry Mom and Dad.
She held the box out in front of Jack. “You can put them in here, thanks.” From the looks of it, several chess pieces were still missing.
Damn, found out. Though, Glitch kind of expected that. Only an idiot would have been fooled by her charade. “I just find an outlet and plug in,” she admitted sheepishly, setting the cup down. “How much was it? I can pay you back.” God, she hoped Darkshift wasn't too annoyed with her.
So her guess wasn't quite right. Still, that was a pretty versatile power Darkshift had. Being able to grow wings, tails, and the like sounded fun. More fun than being trapped in an unfeeling metal body, at least.
“It's frickin' weird. I'm not used to it. It's easy to break things on accident when you can't tell how hard you're holding them.” She picked up a wooden stirrer and snapped it in half with her fingers to demonstrate. “But hey, it's harder to get hurt. My arm could get ripped off and I still won't feel a thing.”
Glitch stayed seated as the other teen went to order at the register.
Wait a minute. Us? And she was bringing back two small coffees? But she couldn't drink...
Crap.
The irritated barista issue might have been solved, but a different problem took its place. Glitch stared at the coffee placed in front of her, unsure of what to do. Ignoring it wouldn't work, and, “By the way, I don't eat,” sounded like something an asshole would say.
She eventually lifted the cup and pretended to take a sip. Her red eyes darted around the room, then to the entrance. No gawkers nor META bots in sight. That was a mild relief.
Glitch nodded in agreement. “Nice to meet you too, Darkshift.” Clearly that was a nickname, and it was easy to see how she earned it. “You've got a pretty cool power. Can you, like, make almost anything you want out of shadows?”
“Yeah, sure,” Glitch replied without hesitation. She just wanted to get off the street and out of that META bot's sight fast.
The bells hanging from the door jingled as she entered the coffee shop. Walking in there felt strange. These days, Glitch rarely had a reason to set foot in eateries. For her, eating was not only unnecessary, but also impossible. It stunk because the coffee looked good, too.
Glitch passed the counter and headed as far away from the entrance as possible. The barista there was giving her the stink eye. Whether it was for being a mutant robot or simply not ordering anything, Glitch could not tell. She tried to give her an apologetic look, but having only the eyes to work with made her efforts futile.
Under the barista's careful watch, Glitch took a seat at the table in the back. Looking back, a coffee shop really wasn't the best place for her to hide. This was incredibly awkward. So, she did the one thing she could think of to alleviate the situation.
“So... I'm Glitch. What's your name?” she asked the other mutant teen.
Glitch had to rush to find shelter. It was raining a lot harder than the forecast had predicted. If she had known it was going to be this bad, she would have delayed her supply trip. The possibility of water damaging a part of her machinery was not worth it. At all.
As luck would have it, a nearby movie theater provided ample protection from the rain. She, along with a few others who were trying to stay dry, stood under the marquee. Judging by the force of the downpour, she was going to be there a while. All Glitch could do was fold up her umbrella and prepare to fight off boredom.
She removed the hood of her raincoat and shifted her attention to the movie posters. There were around a dozen of them there; maybe there would be one she just had to make plans to see. So, what were the offerings?
There was yet another “Stony” sequel. This would be number eight. How many more were they going to make?
Then there was “Mega Destruction,” a disaster movie. The background depicted destruction caused by.... a giant earthquake? Nope, nothing new. Even if the description said it would be “earth-shattering.”
And, “Justin Pond” had a gun-wielding man in maroon suit against a lime green background. Ouch. Seriously. Ouch.
She continued looking over the posters, the storm raging in the background.
Ha, that bot got tripped twice in one night. If that had been a person, they would have a thoroughly bruised ego by now, a fact which made Glitch strangely proud. But, the satisfaction in her eyes faded quickly. If it wasn't after her then, it was definitely after her now. Now she was pushing herself to run faster.
Finally, the chase had lead them to a busier street, a commercial area by the looks of it. Now to hurry along and hide in crowd with their obvious mutations.
...Yeah, as if that was going to work.
Luckily for her, the other teen had a plan. Upon observing her scales disappear, Glitch felt a pang of jealousy. But, she gratefully accepted the trench coat offered to her. “Thanks.” She slid into the coat, effectively concealing her bright yellow arms. Her head, however, was still exposed. She didn't have time to do anything about it; the weak disguise would have to suffice. Since the META bot was on their tail, Glitch wasted no time plunging into the crowd.
Keep head down. Don't run, but walk fast. Do not attract attention. Just like walking past a group of anti-mutant nutjobs with large cardboard signs, so she told herself.
As she walked, she tried to think of a way to throw the bot off their trail for good. “We could try hiding in one of the stores,” Glitch suggested with a hushed voice. The META bots usually didn't go in those, right?
If it hadn't been for their current situation, Glitch would have doubled over laughing. The robots in cartoons had all sorts of whacky weapons, but such things were silly in reality. “Nope, nothing but what you see,” she replied. “That would've been cool, though.” Not indoor friendly, but cool. And useful right right about then!
And, her question was met with an irritated response. Glitch could understand; people hassled her when she hadn't done a thing, either. If she had been able to hide it, maybe things wouldn't have been so bad. Maybe this teen also couldn't hide her mutation. It was impossible to tell if those scales were permanent.
Glitch slowed down a moment to boot the can the girl had knocked over, sending it rolling towards the META bot. Glitch hoped it would trip and give them a few more seconds. Already, she could feel the increased energy demands straining her power box. That robot body of hers just wasn't built for speed. Hopefully, they could lose the robot before she was too exhausted to run.
Despite the figure's protests, the META bot was going in for an arrest. Glitch's eyes tracked it carefully as it marched emotionlessly towards the person. But before she could make a move, the bot fell to the ground. Her eyes went wide.
That person just did what she kind of wanted to do ever since those things were unveiled.
Of course, there was a good reason Glitch hadn't done that yet. The META was already getting back to its feet. Soon, it would authorize itself to use more force. And since she was there, the robot might go after her, too. Running up and punching it was tempting, but what good would it do? Unlike her, the sole purpose of the META bots was to take down hostile mutants. The stranger sped past her. Glitch heard her yell to either help or run.
Glitch was going to run, too.
She struggled to catch up to the stranger, a teenage girl not much older than her. Unsurprisingly, she was a mutant, the shadowy scales being a dead giveaway. “What did you do to set it off?” she called out as she turned a corner. She knew it wasn't a good time, but she had to ask. She was guessing it was just because she was a mutant.
Or maybe that drunk dude left behind in the alley had done something instead. You never know.
Glitch was out alone later than she should have been. The line for the new game was just so long! Topping it off, that one employee was hounding her the entire time. The old guy even insisted on checking her receipt and purse before she left. As if she could have stolen something with him watching so closely.
In an effort to return back to the Mansion faster, Glitch was taking a shortcut through back alleys. There was no light save the dim golden glow from the steep lamps. The quietness was a welcome break from the stares and shocked looks. That was, until...
“Halt immediately, mutant!”
Glitch jumped. “Eep! I didn't do anything!” she squeaked. Her arms flew into the air as she turned towards the alleyway to face the voice's source.
It was a META bot. Glitch eyed it cautiously. She was not a fan of them. They weren't human; they were nothing but programming designed to act however the maker wanted them to, nothing more than that. The thought of being something like that was just sickening.
At least the META bot must not have been talking to her. The visibility wasn't great, but Glitch could make out one, no, two figures. The first was definitely male and stumbling around as if drunk. As for the other, all Glitch could see was a vague outline, as if he or she was shrouded in darkness.
Glitch's feet were planted firmly in place. She had no clue what the deal was, but she didn't trust a machine with police responsibilities.
After several pages of paperwork, a quick tour, and a heartfelt goodbye to her father, Glitch was finally done. Her move into the Mansion was official. This was her new bedroom. No roommate yet, but that was bound to change soon.
As she unpacked, her robotic hands trembled with nervous excitement. Glitch had heard good things about the place, that it was a home and shelter for many young mutants. But, she didn't know anyone there. Her strange appearance just complicated things. What would the other students think about her?
Attempting to push her anxieties aside, Glitch went to pick up the stack near the doorway. Unfortunately, her hands were still shaking, and the chess set on top slid off. It hit the floor with a clatter. Several of the plastic pieces rolled out of the bedroom and into the hallway. Sighing, Glitch got down on the ground to collect them.

Mutations
Mutation description:
Glitch's physiology is robotic. On the outside, she is composed of steel plates. They range from about an eighth of an inch thick on her hands to half an inch for her head. If one were to unscrew the panels and look inside of her, they would find mechanisms that parallel those of a human: Wires instead of nerves, a speaker instead of a larynx, mics instead of eardrums, video cameras for eyes, etc. A power box replaces her heart, and from it comes a power cord she can plug in to charge. Said cord is kept in a small compartment in her chest.
Every component of her could theoretically be replicated with modern technology except for the box in her head - her brain. On the outside, it looks like it could be some sort of computer. But, upon close examination, no one would not find any recognizable code nor parts. Functionally, it is just like an ordinary human brain – Glitch's mind did not change with her mutation.
Strengths:
Glitch is immune or resistant to a lot of the vulnerabilities of an organic body. She can't feel pain, heat, nor cold. She doesn't need to eat nor breathe. Toxins and illnesses would not affect her.
Steel plates are tough. Most run-of-the-mill melee weapons wouldn't leave much more than a dent. Also, getting hit by a fist made of them would hurt.
She's about fifty percent heavier than the average person of her height and build. It helps her stand her ground in a fight.
For a lack of a better term, Glitch is repairable. Dents can be smoothed out, wires can be reconnected, broken parts can be removed and replaced, etc. As long as her brain box is undamaged, it is not impossible to fix her.
Weaknesses and Limitations:
Glitch has lost the senses of touch, taste, and smell. She really misses eating.
She requires electricity to function. To get enough to maintain a normal schedule, she must plug in and charge for, on average, eight hours a day. Additionally, she can still feel exhaustion. While sprinting would make an average person use too much oxygen at once, it would make Glitch use too much electricity at once, leading to the same result, exhaustion. Her mind also requires rest, so she sleeps, an activity that usually coincides with charging.
Her joints (neck, shoulders, etc.) are her most vulnerable points, as there are gaps in the metal plating there. A severe blow to those areas can easily damage her inner workings. Most notably, she has wires that go down her back and through her limbs that are basically her equivalent of motor neurons. If one of those was severed, depending on the location, it could render an arm, leg, or even her entire body useless.
Glitch cannot heal naturally. She must be repaired. And, some parts are a pain to find or afford.
As her brain box does not resemble any available technology, it cannot be repaired nor replaced. Damage to it would be serious and could potentially lead to death.
It is impossible to properly graft, say, an extra robotic limb or anything other mechanical advancements onto her. Her control wouldn't extend to the excess mechanisms, meaning they'd be useless.
Metal manipulators. Being largely comprised of metal leaves her at their mercy.
Water. A little bit is not an immediate threat, but, over time, it can corrode her metal parts. Getting submerged in it is much worse. Like normal electronic devices, she'll short out, potentially causing massive damage to her components. Swimming's out of the question.
Physical Abilities
General Physical Capabilities: Due to her metal makeup, she's fairly strong and can throw some nasty blows. However, her movements are stiff, making it hard for her to keep up with a more nimble opponent.
Fighting Style: She's got no formal training, so she relies on brute force tactics instead. Attempting to punch her opponent is her default style.
Fighting Style Pros/Cons: A punch from her would be painful to the average human. But without any real fighting skills, she could easily lose to an experienced opponent.
History Of Your Character
Glitch was born to a Californian couple. The only thing considered unusual about her family was her parents. Her father was a normal human, and her mother was openly a mutant - a snake shifter. Early on, Glitch was aware that developing a mutation was a likely possibility. Most of her childhood passed without incident, save the occasional hateful words directed at her parents.
Glitch was twelve when her family life unexpectedly changed. It started when an anti-mutant bigot assaulted her mother. She was able to fend him off by shifting into a large snake, but not before suffering some injuries. Overall, it was a very scary incident for the whole family. Soon after that, she started to find it easier to stay in her snake form, and her personality began to become more feral. About a month after the assault, she completely snapped and attacked Glitch and her father. The officials that dealt with the incident referred her to a treatment facility in New York City that specialized in mutation-related insanity. Glitch and her father relocated across the country so they could be near her. Unfortunately, Glitch's mother hasn't shown any improvement since.
Glitch's mutation appeared only recently. Four months after she turned fifteen, she was hospitalized with intense pain inside her arms and legs. Bright spots on the X-ray images soon revealed the cause. Metal machinery was slowly replacing her human body. There was nothing the doctors could do but wait for it to stop. The process lasted only a week, but the changes were much more dramatic than she'd expected.
Once parents caught wind of this, many made it clear they did not want such an obvious mutant attending the high school with their children. Her father even received a threatening call. In order to avoid potentials problems, Glitch had to find a new school where mutants were openly welcomed. The choice seemed clear: She would go live at the Mansion.

“Excuse me, robot lady?”
Glitch looked down as she got off the elevator. A little boy, no more than five years old, was looking up at her with a wide-eyed stare.
“Yes?” she replied in her usual perky tone.
“Who built you?”
She blinked. Just a curious kid who probably didn't know what a mutant was. “Actually, I-”
“What do you think you are doing?” an angry voice interrupted. Glitch turned to face the voice's owner, a twenty-something year old woman.
The mutant gave a nervous laugh. “Sorry ma'am. He just came to me, and-”
“#^@$# off before I call the cops, freak.” A protective arm was stretched out in front of the confused child, holding him back. “And stay away from my kid!”
As badly as Glitch wanted to chew that mother out for her behavior, her hands ultimately went up in defense. “Don't worry, I'm leaving.” She hurried down the hallway as fast as her metal legs could carry her. Her key couldn't unlock the apartment door soon enough.
After what she had just experienced, she had to sit down. She was yelled at and threatened with police when she hadn't done anything wrong. All because she didn't look normal. She heaved a sigh. This was what it meant to be a mutant.
