MRO is an intermediate to advanced writing level original character, original plot X-Men RPG. We've been open and active since October of 2005. You can play as a mutant, human, or Adapted— one of the rare humans who nullify mutant powers by their very existence. Goodies, baddies, and neutrals are all welcome.

Ripples in Time Plot We're catching up to the future...
9 years ago, the mutants of New York woke up with a shared purpose: Destroy Haywire. Avert world crisis. And they did just that.
As we near the anniversary of a world war averted, people have been noticing small errors in their day to day life:
An eclipse heralds the opening of a fissure in the streets of downtown New York. A window into another world...
The setting: Things are only slightly different in the alt-timeline. Think of it like looking into a funhouse mirror. All the details are there, but distorted and actually kinda creepy.

[/ul] What Does This mean for MRO?: All characters exist concurrently in MROverse and the alt-timeline. For the duration of the plot, if you so desire, there are 2 different playable versions of your character. This also means that for the duration of the plot, there are 2 different playable settings: the MRO we all know and love [MRO] and the alt-verse [AV].
Choose your poison: If you would like to create an alt-timeline version of your character, type it up and send it to the mods for review at mutantrevolver@gmail.com. If your mutation is unchanged between the MRO and AV version, replace the mutation section with [unchanged]. This will save us some time on approval.
How should your alt-self be different? Player's choice. You get to decide where in your character's timeline the split happened. Think of a defining moment in your character's history. What if your PC had a different mutation? What if their parents never shoved them out the door? What if they chose to be bad rather than good? What if they never fell in love with that one metalmancer? This is your chance to play 'What if?'
If you do so desire, your character may run into their doppelganger without opening up any additional holes in the multiverse.
You may play in the current timeline or you may explore the alt-timeline. You may play as your MROverse character or your alt-verse character. You can also hop between realities by passing through the fissure. We ask that threads that take place in our current setting be marked [MRO] and threads that take place in the alt-verse be marked with [AV].
What about the X-Men? The Xavier school does not exist in the AV. Neither do the X’s cushy positions. Rather than celebrities, the X-Men exist as vigilantes, constantly having to keep their existence a secret from the police and other authorities.
Instead, the X-Men are holed up in the top of a hospital, where they have office space rented out. No danger room, no cerebra, no DocProf. Instead, they have constant access to medical care, and the use of the helicopter pad above them.
Rather than police missions and publicity outings, the X-Men deal with constant hatred for what they are, and still fight crime in spite of it.
What happens to my faction? Well, that’s up to you players! You can comment below with what you think should happen to the X-men and Haven. Think through the following: would the faction still have been started if my character was different? Would they still be a part of said faction? How would the faction look different?
The timeline: Disturbances in time can be played as early as April 1, 2017 and will increase in frequency. Feel free to use this as plot fodder for your threads.“Scientists hate them!” During this time, you can also use your accepted AV characters in the AV. All AV threads should go in the Alternate Verse section of the forum and be tagged as (AV).
At midnight Eastern time, July 1, 2017 the time ripples will converge to open a tear in the fabric of reality just south of Madison Square Park in the iconic streets of downtown New York. (23rd and 5th) which is between NYU and Central Park. We’ll have an event thread if anyone wants to get sucked in.
The plot is slated to end at midnight on July 1, 2018, which is the 10 year anniversary of averted WW3 and by the time we get there, we’ll all think up something super fun for that. (If you have an idea, please post below!)
Since this would be a Long Term Plot, we would like to leave events in the hands of the players so there is no strict timeline of events for this plot. We will add benchmarks to this timeline as we as a community make them.
What happens after the plot: There can only be one. Players will choose which version of their character they want to stick with and we will make sure that version of their character is the one that stays on the MRO side of the rift. This is also our chance to define our future! We will be closing the time break and merging what elements we liked from the alt-timeline into our own so please let us know what you’d like to keep and what you think should go.
OMG I just started. WHERE DO I FIT IN? Never fear, new MROer! You are free to participate. We encourage you to get comfortable with your character, but if you think you can handle it, go ahead and dive right into these multi-verse shenanigans. You can make things as crazy different (or sane and same) as you want to.
Feel like it's too soon for you to do that to your character? Don't worry, there will be tons of other plots with older characters going on, and plenty of time for you to jump in. Go witness the chaos that will ensue!

I want to start fresh!
If you are a returning member who would like to start with a new character, that's easy! Simply create a new account and post your completed application (Sample RP and all) to the character application sub-board and let the application process proceed as normal.
From there, you may resume playing old characters as you feel comfortable adding them.
I want my old friends back!
If you are a returning member who would like to resume playing an old character, first log in to your account and double check that your character account is unlocked. If your character is unlocked, please dust off the non-mutation sections of your application (age, appearance, history, and personality are all good candidates). Once your application has been refreshed, you are good to go! You can start with one, some, or all of your old characters as your time permits.
Pro tip: It is a good idea to note your old post count and date of return. That way you can easily check if you qualify for a new character or power growth. Email this info to the mods on your return along with a link to your updated profile to get a speedy add back onto the Taken Mutation list.
I want a little of column A, a little of column B!
If you are a returned member who has started with a new character and you want another brand new character, you must wait two weeks between new character applications. There will be no excepts to the 2 week waiting rule, it's there so the mods are not totally flooded.
If you are a returned member who has started with a new character and wants to add in an old character, log in to your old character to double check that they are in good standing, dust off your old app, make note of their post count, and have at it.
If you are a returned member who started with an old character and wants to get a brand new character, cool. Do that. You just need to wait 2 weeks before you apply with another new character. You may add in old characters up to your character limit as you like since, they've already been approved.
Returning Member FAQ
How do I know that my character is in good standing? If your character account is unlocked, your character is in good standing. Be sure to update your age and appearance when you clean up your character application!
What do I do if my account is locked? Email or DM The Mod Team account. Together, we should be able to figure out why and guide you to fix whatever issues might exist.
How Do I explain being gone for so long? You can think up a fun plot to explain your absence, or your characters can disembark a plane with a tan and no questions asked.
Can I have my old character level up while I was away? In order to apply for a power growth you must have 1 month of activity and 50 posts since your return before sending in your power growth application. So! That means that you can hop off a plane with a tan, but you can't hop off a plane with newly expanded powers.
I want to explain my absence with an elaborate story about how my character fought bears to escape an evil circus. Can I do that? Suuuuure! Just make sure that any new skills or abilities your character gains are within the realm of "realism." Because we like things to make sense... kind of.
Why do I have to wait 2 weeks to get a new character? New characters require moderation. Mods do this on a volunteer basis. They don't get paid. The waiting period gives the mods some time to be players too.
Can I still swap out an old character for a new one? We understand that occasionally, some of us might feel the need to retire a character or shelve them because the muse is just not there. We get it, and we don’t want people feeling like they are stuck trying to make something work that isn’t. We do want to clarify one rule, however:
You will be asked to wait 2 weeks before re-adding your old character. This is not a loophole to get more characters faster, m'kay?
What about power overlaps? Returning characters are exempt from power overlap checks. That means that your old character's powers cannot be vetoed by a new guy. Once you are active and added back to the Taken Mutation list, you might be asked about overlaps again.
How do I get back on the Taken Mutation list? Nudge the mods by email or DM The Mod Team account or PM one of us on Discord. We should be get-hold-of-able. Bonus points if you include a link to your refreshed profile.

XAVIER'S SISTER SCHOOL has helped great students become great leaders since 2005, longer than any other faction on MRO. The moderator team is looking to recruit a talented educator who cares about kids, has a clear personality/mutation that any player may handle, and can be made available for the position of Headmaster as soon as possible.
What? We're looking for an NPC to establish in the role of Mansion Headmaster. We need an NPC that is owned by no one and can be used by anyone. The players of MRO have devious and clever minds so we figured we would make it a contest.
What happened to Tricity/Neena/Any Other Old Headmasters? All previous headmasters that were PCs have all decided to take up positions at Xavier's west coast branch of schools. With the addition of our NPC headmaster, we won't need to explain what our old friend's characters have been up to.

This is a public service announcement to remind anyone in threads with Ghost/Lori/Noel/Jude that I am currently homeless with dubious amounts of time and internet access. I beg your patience with my absence and miss you all dearly!
Long story short: I am moving, but can't move into the house until everything closes. In the meantime, my lease is ending with this month. Mr. Ghost, my cats and I will be bumming around on friend's couches until we can get into our property and so that means unreliable internet, extra stress and untold adventures of the sadly non-MRO persuasion.
And that is the short story. I'm terribly sorry about threads. I may or may not get another round out soon. It's hard to say. I am packing and all kinds of other things that are not good for posting.
