The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Kealey’s face scrunched up in concentration as she considered what Shin said, ”Oh! After the basilisk in the Chamber…the chocolate made him warm.”
She opened the chocolate Shin had given her and popped it into her mouth. ”Mmmmm.” she hummed with a grin, ”Chocolate makes me warm too…”
Luke answered her question, and didn’t mind the curiosity at all. He rose in Kealey’s estimation, even if Shin’s recommendation had him pretty far up there to begin with. His power was even more fascinating now, he’d always been blind.
”Wow, it must have all been so overwhelming.” Kealey said, referring to when Luke’s powers had manifested. She could relate.
The topic of conversation swung to her own mutation and Kealey nodded her head, taking another sip of her drink while she tried to figure out how to phrase exactly what it was she could do.
”I can change whatever is already there.” she said softly, and a little gravely. Kealey’s power was very serious to her.
”I’m not very good with it. I just do well enough to get by.”

Shin wanted to be the target? He actually wanted her to swing at him? Kealey frowned, mood dropping even more. He was serious. ”This isn’t a good idea.” the blond said, folding her arms across her stomach and studying Shin as he explained that she was going to learn how to throw a punch.
It would be useful knowledge, it really would be. Kealey just wasn’t sure if this was the right time…when she was feeling so violent, just below the surface. It wasn’t that she thought she could actually hurt Shin, he was the one teaching her after all, it was just…
Worry joined the other, more angry, emotions and Kealey wrapped her arms more tightly around her middle. It was starting to be a little too much and her hands fisted in the sides of her shirt as they started to shake slightly. She’d needed a way to blow off steam, Shin was giving her one.
Slowly, her fists unclenched from the sides of her shirt, and Kealey frowned at her instructor’s slight taunting and winking. As hard as he was trying, she just wasn’t feeling better yet.
”Okay…” she said, letting her arms drop for a second, then staring at Shin.
How did one go about throwing a punch when they’d had no instruction? Kealey realized her hands were already curled into fists, nails biting slightly into her palms as she tried again to get a handle on the hostile raging emotions that were building up inside of her.
She didn’t want to hit Shin…but then again…she really wanted to hit something. This was her chance. Kelaey sighed and shut her eyes for a moment.
She cut the emotions loose…and out they flooded like water from a broken dam.
Before she knew what she was doing, Kealey had closed the gap between herself and Shin and was swinging what probably could have been considered the most ill-formed punch in the history of punches.

Kealey grinned even more broadly when Shin officially granted her permission to make him a battle outfit. She kind of wanted to do a little dance again, but she settled for squirming a little excitedly right there in her seat. The costume she’d been planning probably would have been made anyway…but it was so much better with Shin throwing his support behind the idea. He pointed out that a shard coat was probably not incredibly warm and Kealey shook her head, ”I would imagine not. Resilient and reflective, yes. Hopefully I can make this one lightweight enough to be functional, but sturdy enough to be warm. We’ll have to see.”
He told her to make him look good, and Kealey laughed again at the serious tone of his voice, and the half-serious feelings behind it , ”That’s the easy part.” she said. As if she’d do anything else.
Luke returned then, carrying more than enough food for the thread of them. As he sat things down and got himself situated, Kealey couldn’t help but be impressed again by the way he managed. She supposed it wasn’t all that different from her own powers. A person could learn to live with anything, and right now Luke was feeling a little sentimental. She tilted her head at that and watched as Shin leaned forward to grab sodas. He offered her one, and Kealey took it gratefully, popping the tab and taking a quick sip.
Mmmm.
The topic of conversation changed slightly and Kealey grinned. For once, a reference that she got! Being a librarian, there’d been no way to avoid Harry Potter, and Kealey thought herself much better for the reading experience. The books had been excellent. Again, Shin offered her something, and again Kealey took it with a smile.
”I’m not sure…” she said to the first Harry Potter comment, ”But I know when Ron shares his candy on the first trip to Hogwarts, Dumbledore is on the chocolate frog card. It‘s all the way in the third book when we hear about it being a cure for the after effects of dementors.”
A question came to mind, and Kealey’s usual curiosity got the better of her, ”You use your powers so well to see, Luke…can you use them on regular books, or do you read braile?” it was probably something he got asked a lot, but Kealey kind of hoped it was. Then it wouldn’t be as awkward.
Quid pro quo, though.
”I do the emotion thing.” she said, shrugging her shoulders slightly, ”In case you don’t remember. You can ask me anything you want.”

Sam turned his attention to her and Shin, and Kealey smiled at his compliment and the way Shin reacted. The blond nodded her head, ”I’m having a wonderful time. This is the first dance I’ve ever gotten to go to.”
Apparently Sam’s date was named Fade. Kealey smiled again at the practice of using code names to identify a person. ”Pleasure to meet you.” she said, holding out her hand to shake and casting Shin a grateful look for not throwing the whole “empath” thing out there immediately.
”I don’t think we’ve met, or that we’ve spoken about a new costume for you.”
Just then, Sam broke off and began to shout at a couple of kids who were kissing on the dance floor. Kealey let her eyes find the two and she blushed, chuckling at the teenage emotions.
”Oh Sam…” she said, ”Don’t be too hard on the young man…he’s absolutely enamored with the young lady.”
She couldn’t help but giggle a little more, blushing still.
”Teenagers feel things so strongly…” she pointed out, looking for punch to distract herself and casting a bashful grin around at the rest of the group. Had it gotten warmer?
Fade spoke, and Kealey found herself laughing again, ”So very different…but in some ways very much the same. I was thinking about it earlier when I was so very worried about my dress.”
It really was quite warm, Kealey noted again, and fanned herself for a moment, turning her attention to Fade, ”So…Shin says you can vanish?”

Shin was amused and Luke was confused. Porygon, it seemed, was good at drawing different emotions out of people. Kealey opened her mouth to explain, but shut it again. Pokemon explanations could come later, Luke was going to get them supplies.
She and Shin made it to the couch and settled in comfortably and Kealey paid close attention as Shin answered her question about how he felt. He was a little…irritated was too strong a word. Kealey got the impression, though, that he didn’t necessarily like her worrying over him like that.
She thought for a moment.
He’d been in an accident, surely he could handle a little bit of coddling.
He repeated that he was fine and Kealey smiled and nodded, “Good.“ she wouldn’t ask again. Shin really hadn’t minded too much though. His feelings told her that. Kealey just settled into the couch, though, and proceeded to wait for Luke. It was quiet for a few moments, then Kealey turned her head to look at Shin.
”So, can I really make you a costume now?” she asked, ”Complete with an epic coat? I don‘t know how I‘d feel about you battling evil doers in nothing but your skivvies.”

Shin promised that there would be no more zombies, and Kealey felt some of the tensed muscles in her shoulders relax marginally. She hadn’t really thought he’d put her through that again simply for kicks, but Kealey’s mind was too frazzled to simply let it go. Shin walked away and Kealey found herself curious and impatient on top of everything else as Shin explained they’d be working with a target. He walked away and messed with a console, then worked his way back in her direction.
The Danger Room, Kealey decided a few moments later…really was pretty cool…even if the thought was dragged kicking and screaming from the cell where all her emotions that didn’t involve “rage”, “irritation”, and “frustration” were being held captive. Shin simply spoke to the ceiling….and blam…boxing ring.
Was she going to watch him box? Or maybe he was going to show her how to do some cool jump roping things. Shin had told her once that he’d fought in rings like this…surely he knew how to jump rope. It was already starting to work, if mildly, random thoughts were working their way through the brick wall of violent intent. They were few and far between…but it was a start.
Kealey really did want to hit something.
Shin entered the ring, and she followed close behind, ”At least I’m dressed for this…” she said, climbing between the ropes and looking back at Shin, every bit as serious as he was.
Kealey was still in the middle of the clothing shop when Shin pulled the plug on the simulation. For some reason, watching it all disappear hacked her off even more. The anger wasn’t directed at anyone in particular, and somehow that made it worse. Kealey wasn’t used to dealing with frustration on this scale and it made her antsy to the point that every little thing was irritating.
Shin was there now, and Kealey watched him as he talked to Cafas, trying desperately to make all that frustration, irritation, and violent anger go away. The empath was stumped, nobody else was feeling any of those things…why was she? Had the zombies broken something in her mind with their waves of hostility? Stupid zombies…stupid try-out…stupid costume….
Kealey took a deep breath and stopped herself, reigning in the feelings again and clenching her hands into fists until her fingers hurt. None of those things deserved her ire, she just needed to be patient. Patience was difficult though…really, really difficult.
Kealey heard her name and her head jerked up and over to Shin, the tight scowl still firmly in place, if not aimed at him. She gave a curt nod when he asked if they could talk, then softened slightly at the feelings behind the question. She went back to counting.
Cafas left, and Shin turned his attention back to her.
”Are you alright? You look a little... mad. Like you need to punch something.” Shin asked, and blue eyes came up from where they’d been studying the ground.
Needed? To punch something? Kealey shrugged her shoulders, a little worried that if she let go of the anger and frustration she wouldn’t be able to pull herself back together. ”Those zombies were really angry. I‘m not good at that.”
He offered the Danger Room up for figurative slaughter and Kealey took a moment to think…then nodded.

Kealey watched and listened as Luke chatted with Shin about his powers. The blond had noticed that Luke was slightly skeptical about new material for a costume, but she knew better. People just didn’t know what they were missing with the new synthetics. Sure there would always be people who preferred leather for whatever strange reason…but a vast majority of the population was amenable to synthetics once they’d given them a try. Surely Luke would be no exception…and at least Shin had given over as well.
Shin gave the blind man a rundown of what he’d accomplished with his powers since the last time the two had spoke. Kealey tried to remember if she’d ever known Shin when he couldn’t do the things he described. It made sense though, everyone got better with their powers over time.
”He can make a porygon too.” she added helpfully, but frowning slightly when he explained that he’d been practicing when he’d had his accident. She looked at the wall again, absolutely refusing to allow herself to get into ‘what if’ statements. Shin was fine, so was everyone else. That’s all that mattered.
They were back on leather now, and also the clothing from the show they’d started watching together. Kealey hid a smile, the jacket in question was shockingly similar to something she’d been playing around with in her sketchbook for quite some time now.
Shin was feeling better now, but he also thought it might be a good idea to take a seat. Kealey was about to agree, when Luke suggested he go and grab some snacks. Kealey had already eaten lunch, so she shook her head, ”If you can manage to carry a coke with your snacks…I’d really appreciate it.”
Once Shin had told Luke whether he wanted anything or not, the blind man had set off for the kitchens. Kealey half-led, half-drug Shin back into the living room and towards the couch she’d been sitting on when he crashed into the wall. Once there, she dropped down onto the cushions and crossed her legs.
”It’s hard to imagine that he’s the same person.” she said, then turned to look closely again at Shin, ”And you’re positive you’re okay? You were pretty dazed. I don‘t think I‘ve ever seen you off kilter like that before.”

Oh, he was fine. That was just…great. At least someone was.
It probably should have been easier to shake off the violent emotions the zombies had implanted in her mind, but Kealey was tired and the test had been stressful. Even if she hadn’t used her powers very much, it had all taken its toll. A hand tried to creep up to wrap itself in curls to fidget, but the ponytail stopped Kealey and she scowled.
She spoke, and Shin responded. ”Are you serious?” she exclaimed when he pointed out that Cafas needed to make sure he changed back into his regular clothes before the simulation ended.
”The fabric and everything was simulated too? All the work? While there were zombies?” Kealey stared at the various scraps, the pattern paper, and the scattered sewing tools and suddenly felt the urge to over turn the whole thing again. She settled for knocking over the chair. Crossed arms and a stomped foot may have been present as well, but disappeared quickly when Kealey realized how silly she must look. The blond sighed and bent to right the chair.
Then, Cafas took off his pants.
”Oh Sweet Mary…” the blond muttered and turned around, covering her eyes for good measure. That was not what she’d needed to improve her mood. She counted to twenty again…so what if it was by twos.
Cafas thought they should go outside, and was rather pleased with himself as he made his way out there. Kealey shrugged her shoulders, dropping her hands from her face, but not moving from her spot. ”You go right ahead. It’s all fake anyway.”

The smile on Micah’s face looked strained, and Kealey smiled at him reassuringly as he expressed interest in a Pepsi, then laughed at his comment. ”Actually…it kind of is.” she said, ”The kitchen is open 24 hours, 7 days a week. You can come in at any time and get what you want. If something is in the cabinets it’s up for grabs. If you want to put something in the fridge, I’d put my name on it. It cuts down on other people using it. There’s also more fridges scattered around on the floors.”
Micah was more than complimentary about the job she was doing, and Kealey smiled and shook her head slightly at the praise. ”Well, thank you. I’m glad I’m doing something right. Shin will probably end up getting in contact with you because of something or other that I messed up with your registration.”
She felt like she needed to say something more. Micah was being so gracious… ”And I wouldn’t have empathy if I wasn’t an empath. I learned body language and tone of voice, all those things connect. So..it’s all kind of tied together.”
The younger man didn’t seem very confident in the fact that his powers could be good things, and Kealey shook her head as she walked. ”Trust me. Everyone can find something amazing, and good to do with their powers. You would be surprised what a person can do.” It was true…people did amazing things with their powers…even if they seemed innocuous at first.
They were walking as they talked, and soon Kealey had led Micah to the kitchen. There were a couple students there and the empath waved at them as she and Micah took a quick look around. ”There really isn’t anything exciting there…just good to know where it is.” she said, making her way to the fridge to grab Micah the soda he’d requested. Once she’d handed him the cold can, she looked back and forth. ”Let’s go up to the second floor next. I’ll show you the adults wing, the living room, and the other stuff up there. Then we can round the tour out with the library.” To Kealey, it was the best part…but if asked, she definitely would have admitted bias.

OOC - If you gave me emotional descriptions, thanks! If not, you’re stuck with what I gave you based on your post. If you don’t like them, give me more to work with next time!
Why did Sam feel the need to get into the middle of everything by himself? There had been shots fired, and there were still forms littering the ground in various states of disorientation. This wasn’t the type of situation you simply walked into. Besides, the feelings of the unknown mutants weren’t necessarily violent, but friendly definitely would have been an exaggeration.
There was something strange there too, some of the emotions were fuzzy, and the blond had a hard time feeling them out. The person wasn’t quite amused…but they weren’t malicious either, it was almost like the feelings were….irreverent? She couldn’t match a word to the feelings, they were hard to describe.
There were so many things to focus on, and Kealey spent a few moments simply trying to untangle one bundle of emotions from the next, getting a feel for each of the people in her group and the other. That was a lot and soon Kealey was rooted in her spot, buzzing with all the different emotions and trying not to really feel any of them. She partially succeeded.
A shot rang out, and Kealey jumped, some of her concentration slipping the varying degrees of alarm and amusement that went through people at the sound. Sam didn’t have a gun…so that only meant that…Kealey nodded to herself, someone was shocked, but quickly recovering and moving towards confidence again.
Almost on cue, Mirror returned from her recon mission with Sam to report that he had indeed been shot. Kealey already knew it couldn’t be serious, but apparently they were in for a fight. Kealey committed the descriptions Mirror gave to memory, hoping that there really wasn’t a child fighting with the opposition. That definitely would throw a kink in things…and it meant these were far more nefarious villains than the average thug.
Cafas got instructions to follow Mirror back to the brawl, and Kealey got told….to stay back. Her eyebrows drew together at that, and she scowled. How was she supposed to do anything useful if she couldn’t see what was going on? Kealey huffed and started moving after Cafas ran off. Sam had said to stay at a distance, not stay at the car.
Moving to where she could see the action taking place, Kealey frowned. Things were starting to heat up, starting with Cafas stepping into things with Sam. The person with the gun hadn’t made another move, but the scorpion lady looked ready to go. She actually had a stinger. She reassessed, the fuzziness was coming from the gun wielder and the much smaller, caped child near her. Kealey had encountered that once before…but she’d have to think on it later.
The best way to win a fight, was to not have to fight at all.
Kealey focused, doing her best to mentally pick out each bundle of emotions tied to a villain. Down went motivation, down went malice, down went pretty much anything Kealey could find that would benefit them in a fighting situation. If there was fear, up it went, hesitation too. For now, her comrades would have to handle things on their own. Kealey had her hands full with the bad guys.

Heh. Kealey chuckled when Micah pointed out that she could simply ask if she wanted to know about his powers. ”Not something I’m used to doing.” she said, watching carefully as he quickly filled in the paperwork. Man, the guy was sure a whiz at paperwork. Kealey was jealous, she had to carry a notebook around with all her relevant information, or run the risk of not knowing any of it.
The more he wrote, the more Micah seemed uncomfortable, and Kealey found herself leaning slightly forward in her seat. Why weren’t her powers working on this new resident? Why couldn’t she do something slightly more helpful than sit there and gape at him like she was a half-wit? It was frustrating, and the blond had absolutely no problem sorting that feeling out from the others in her head.
Micah handed the forms back, and Kealey took them, frowning slightly at the pale overcast his face had taken. He didn’t feel well, and he wondered if they had soda. Kealey nodded her head, ”Of course we do. We can start our tour at the kitchens.”
Kealey filed the forms where Shin had showed her, then rose and came around the desk to stop by Micah, in his line of sight, but not close enough to make either of them uncomfortable.
”I know how hard this can all be.” Kealey said, face and eyes serious, ”I also know that you might get tired of everyone telling you how special you are. They don’t feel like super-powers right off the bat, do they?” she asked, already knowing the answer.
”Eventually, though, you’ll end up like me, completely tongue tied with a stranger because you’re without your abilities.”
She patted him on the shoulder in the most comforting way possible, then headed for the door, ”We’ve got Pepsi and Coke…and a lot of other types of soda. Which one do you prefer? ”

When Kealey brought up the fact that Shin had refused her offer of a costume he spoke up, and felt quite contrite while doing it. It was tempting to gloat, maybe do a little dance of victory or something, but Kealey didn’t. She’d already been drawing up a design to make him something anyway. This wasn’t a true win, and she decided to simply be happy with the fact that he was on board.
His concerns…were valid. The last thing she wanted was him running around in a battle in nothing but his underoos. That wouldn’t do at all. Shin was still leaning on her, and Kealey let her head drop to the side against his shoulder as he suggested a coat like the one on the Japanese TV show they’d started to watch.
”Yeah…that would be an awesome idea.” she said, still not mentioning the fact that she had plans for something similar already drawn up in her room, ready to go to the sewing stage. There hadn’t been any other option once she’d seen how impressed Shin had been by that coat. The leather pants, on the other hand…
”Oh for the love of all that’s holy. You’re off your head if you think I’ll be making you anything out of leather.”
Luke seemed to think it was a reasonable idea, though, and Kealey wrinkled her nose.
”Leather smells funny…especially after you sweat in it…and it breaks down if it gets wet, it’s not very flexible, and it’s hot. I don’t work with the stuff. If you wanted a nice jacket or something, maybe, but not for fighting. I can accomplish the same thing with much cooler, lighter weight material that will hold up better.”
Luke’s confidence in her abilities were reassuring, and Kealey nodded her head. This had been an interesting reunion. Inevitably, though, her eyes traveled to the gash in the wall and she tilted her head to look at Shin.
”Still feeling alright?” she asked, just to be sure.

”Thank you!” Kealey said brightly when Micah told her she was doing a nice job with greeting him even if it wasn’t her normal job. Micah hadn’t had this experience before, and didn’t have much to go on beyond what Kealey had done so far, but the sentiment was still appreciated.
”My usual domain is the library or my sewing table. The Mansion was lacking a Librarian and I was already doing some work for Sam. It’s summer and I’m not in classes, so I figured staying here would be more simple.” she added as they made their way into Shin’s office and got comfortable so they could go about getting Micah a room. It had been an accurate description of her duties, even if she’d left out the part about avoiding stalkers, and the plus of being close to her boyfriend, and being a recent member of a paramilitary mutant organization. Micah didn’t need to know everything. They weren’t having a casual chat, after all, this was business.
Micah was excited about the individual rooms, and Kealey couldn’t help but smile at his enthusiasm. Even if she couldn’t feel it in her normal way, it was contagious and she nodded her head. ”Like I said, they’re not all that fancy, but it’s not hard to make yourself at home.”
The prospective resident looked around and Kealey found herself wondering what he was feeling. She chuckled softly as she sat in the desk chair and pushed her curly hair back off her shoulders, ”It’s always so strange. Most of the time I’d give anything to be able to not feel everything around me. But whenever I run across someone whose emotions I can’t feel, I want to more than anything. Funny how dependent you become on your abilities.” she mused, sifting around in pile after pile, trying to find the one that contained residency forms. ”You’re still relatively new to yours though. It’ll take you a while to get used to it.”
Finally, after much sifting, Kealey found the paper she was looking for and held it out across the table for Micah to take. While she’d been looking, he commented on how happy and relaxed everyone looked at the Mansion and Kealey nodded her head again. ”People are always happy in places where they can be themselves. We’ve got our share of normal school problems, and plenty of problems that other schools don’t have…but I think we do a pretty good job of creating our own standards for normalcy.” As for his comment about the X-Men. Kealey smiled with pride at the compliment, ”It would be best if we could avoid the fighting all together. I think there are much more effective ways to bring about change.”
While Micah filled, Kealey went about finding him a room. The diagram was clearly marked with the names of all the residents and Kealey took a minute to grin at her own name where Shin had penciled it in the day after he’d saved her from Roland. It seemed like so long ago now…
Into the proper spot went Micah’s name, and Kealey snagged the proper set of keys from where Shin had showed her they were stowed. ”Just let me know when you’re done with the paperwork and we’ll start the tour.”
