The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Hmmm. Andrew was pleased by the kitchen, thrilled by it in fact. Kealey knew another person who would have had the same reaction, and she made a mental note to get in contact with Aurum. How long had it been since she’d seen him….his birthday? Far too long. Kealey turned her attention back to Andrew. He was calm now.
Note made. Kealey didn’t mention it though, just filed the little point away for later. People who liked to cook used it for therapy…and to make their drunk friends cheesecake brownies. Note made twice.
Andrew worked his way across the kitchen to the fridge and asked what Kealey wanted to drink, ”There should be some cokes in there. I’ll take one of those.” she said, wondering how someone so nice was having such a tough time living in the city.
”So, people really try to take advantage of your powers?’ the blond asked, leaning against the counter as she waited for Andrew to finish with the drinks.
”You don’t have to answer if you don’t want to, but I’m curious. How exactly does it work?”

He didn’t quite believe her, but Kealey didn’t mind. It usually took people a little while to realize that there really was something good happening to them. It broke Kealey’s heart a little that people were so down trodden that they couldn’t even believe that something as established as the Mansion was truth, but it was the reality and the best she could do what make Andrew as comfortable as possible while he looked around.
And look he did, at all the same things that had awed and impressed Kealey the first time she’d visited the Mansion. Had it been so long ago? She smiled at the memory of those early days. How Shin had gotten her a room and let her follow him around. Kealey realized how silly and nostalgic she was being and jerked her attention back to Andrew as he told her to lead the way on the tour.
”Hmmm.” she said, considering where the best place to start would be. They were already on the first floor, and the kitchen was right down the hall…
”Let’s start in the kitchen. We can get something to drink, and since it’s on the first floor it’s as logical a place to start as any.”
That said, Kealey turned and made her way down the hall to the kitchen.
”And here we are…” she said as she walked in and flipped off the lights to illuminated the spacious and functional room. ”Everything you could ever want to use to cook. I still don’t know what half the stuff does.”

They walked and Andrew waved off her attempt to let him release the tight hold he was keeping on his emotions. Kealey nodded her head. If anyone understood how important it was to keep a lock on your emotions sometimes…it was Kealey.
”You really shouldn’t be nervous though…” she explained, wondering what was bringing on those feelings, ”Nobody here is going to do anything that should make you nervous…unless it’s nervous in a good way.” Why was he nervous? It wasn’t like this was a try-out or anything.
Kealey tried to work out a better way to get her message across, and grinned when it happened, ”We’re the ones on an interview here Andrew. You’re deciding if you want to be a part of us, not the other way around. If you want to stay here. You can stay here.”
When they walked inside, Kealey just waited, letting Andrew take in all the things she’d told him about. Hearing the words were one thing, seeing it in all its splendor was another entirely.
She actually chuckled a little when he asked if she lived there, then Kealey nodded her head, ”Most of the time. I‘ve got an apartment in the city, but it‘s mostly storage these days. Everything I want and need is here.”
She gave the newcomer a few more moments to look around at things, then smiled, ”There’s a lot more to see, if you want.”

”Yup.” Kealey said with a grin when Andrew asked if “this” was the place. The blond remembered how nearly overwhelming it had been to see the place for the first time. She could feel the hints of that in Andrew, and that he was impressed. Appropriate initial reactions for something like the Mansion.
If Andrew was anything like Kealey though, those things would change. All she felt when she looked at the Mansion was a sense of home. She knew it was more than the Mansion itself. All the bricks and wood and mortar were beautiful, and the grounds were almost without compare in the area. It was the people though, and the things that had happened to Kealey while she’d been at the Mansion.
It was the first time she’d felt like she was at home since she’d left for school one day when she was fourteen.
Kealey let them in through the gate and then they were walking up the drive. She could feel Andrew’s barely constrained nerves and she cast a grateful smile in his direction, ”Don’t harry yourself on my account.” she said, ”The mansion feels like a secluded dessert island after spending time in the city. Now would be a great time for you to start asking questions.”
They spoke as they walked, and soon enough they were at the doors that would let them inside.
”Don’t be too gob smacked by how impressive everything looks. It’s super nice…but if you decide to stay it will feel like home in no time.”
She opened the doors.
The foyer was opulent, as Kealey had described. There was red carpet, and a chandelier. There were paintings of various founders and people whose names Kealey still didn’t know. The stairs were there too, one leading up and to the left, the other leading up and to the right. Those were the dorms. If you want past the stairs there were hallways that led to the various offices, kitche, living rooms, and the rest of the first floor.
Kealey stopped for a moment and didn’t say anything, just letting Andrew soak it in.

Amused…puzzled…tolerant…all things that Shin was feeling. Kealey knew because she was more focused on his reaction than she could remember being in a long time. She’d hit him…actually punched him in the face and he was amused and tolerant?
It made her feel even worse. More guilty tears gathered in blue eyes, threatening to spill over. Kealey took a deep breath and focused on getting the bleeding from Shin’s nose to stop. It was a bit of a mess…apparently she’d done a good job swinging.
”I didn’t mean to hit you…I was swinging for the pad and I missed. It was an accident….” she trailed off and Shin made a comment about how if she kept swinging that way she’d be fine. Kealey shook her head.
”I don’t want to be that kind of fine… she said, sniffling as her nose threatened to run if something didn‘t happen to those tears, ”I was just so angry, and the swinging felt so good. I’m sorry, I’m a mess right now…you’re not mad at me?”

Contact. Kealey felt the contact when her fist collided with Shin’s nose. She felt it…a lot. As Shin doubled over, Kealey’s fist exploded in a starburst of pain that ricocheted through her knuckles, into her wrist, and tingled into her forearm.
Kealey didn’t notice. Not right away, she was watching what was happening to Shin.
She’d hurt him.
She’d hit him in the face.
Kealey Quinn, who had never hurt anyone intentionally. Had punched her boyfriend in the face while he was trying to help her sort out her head.
He was bleeding, and complimenting her while she stood and stared.
”Oh my god!” she exclaimed, his words knocking her out of her stupor as her hands found the sides of his head around the padding that was on his arms.
”I’m so sorry Shin…let me see, tilt your head back, not forwards…” she said, regretful tears springing to her eyes as she tried to see what exactly had happened, oblivious of the blood or the throbbing in her hand, all of which were secondary to the feelings she was so intensely focused on in Shin.

Kealey nodded when Andrew said that Sam had helped him out of a jam As roving as the X-leader’s eye was…he had a good heart. He was also a pretty decent judge of character, and Kealey knew she was. Andrew was going to fit in well at the Mansion…and it seemed like he was starting to think so too.
Kealey checked the clock on her phone, ”If you have time now, the next bus leaves in ten minutes. I can show you around when we get there.”
Kelaey paused a moment, wondering if the next comment bore speaking, ”I will warn you though…coffee shops and video game stores are one thing…but a crowded city bus is another entirely. I might get a little weird.”
It was a candid admission to a partial stranger, but Kealey felt the need. Even after all the work she’d done, and all the progress she’d made…Kealey could still be nearly ruined by a crowded city bus.

”It can be easier.” Kealey said when Andrew pointed out that things were never really easy for people like them. Kealey didn’t like to hear it phrased that way. To her, there really wasn’t any such thing as “people like us” and “people like them.” She didn’t say this to Andrew though, their acquaintance was too new to bring philosophy like that into play.
Andrew wanted to know more about the Mansion, and Kealey’s eyebrows rose almost to her hairline when he mentioned Sam. This was almost too much coincidence. Things made a little more sense when a card was produced from Andrew’s wallet, but Kealey was still a little gob smacked by the whole thing.
”I know Sam. Quite well actually. He’s my boss…and a good friend of mine.” she pointed out.
Kealey thought for a few moments, wondering exactly how to phrase what she wanted to say without sounding strange….well, more strange than she already did.
”You know how I said that it can be easier?” she said, leaning forward slightly and looking intently at Andrew.
”The Mansion is a wonderful place. If Sam gave you a card, he must have thought you would fit in there. You should give it a try I’m heading back there now if you want a tour or something. No strings attached.”

As they sat and drank their coffee, Andrew opened up about his mutation. Kealey was glad he trusted her so much after a short time, when talking about things was obviously difficult. There was too little of that kind of trust these days and it was a refreshing occurrence.
As the younger man explained, Kealey nodded her head and listened, eyes widening slightly at the implications of what he said. No wonder he was scared. ”I can’t imagine what that’s like for you….I mean, I know how you feel, but that’s about it.” Kealey didn’t pry, if Andrew chose to be more forthcoming, he would be.
After she spoke, Kealey realized that her words may have sounded cryptic and she took another sip of her coffee before setting it down on the table and speaking again, ”I feel emotions. Everyone’s, all the time. I can also fiddle with them. I don’t unless I absolutely have to…but I can.”
Andrew explained about his roommate and why he was scared and wandering and Kealey frowned, ”Have you ever heard of The Mansion? It’s really a sister school to Xavier’s Institute…but it’s right here in New York City. That’s where I live, with a whole lot of people just like us.”

Kentucky. ”I’ve never been anywhere in the states outside of New York.” Kealey said, ”I’m from Ireland. The accent always slips out.” She’d been a little worried that putting her hand on Andrew’s shoulder would be a bad idea, but he didn’t seem to mind and even calmed down a little. That was good.
Once she’d found the right game, the rest was simple. Andrew seemed amenable to talking, and he was even quite amused by the fact that she wanted to get coffee. The blond reminded herself to ask about that later, and moved to get in line.
If only the search had been as easy as paying was, she thought as she handed over the money and got her change. This was going to be good though, Shin would be so surprised that she’d managed to find him a game he liked.
Kealey was surprised when Andrew took the bag from her, but appreciated the gesture nonetheless. He wanted to know where the coffee shop was and Kealey gestured down the street as they left the shop.
”It’s just a few shops down.” she said, and led the way.
Soon they’d placed their orders and were sitting in the quaint little sitting area where Kealey had found herself after a bank robbery and after someone had knocked her portfolio from her hands while she was applying to FIT.
”You seem nervous about your genetic status.” Kealey said, sipping her coffee. ”I couldn’t help but notice….why is that?” she asked candidly, then smiled a little apologetically.

Kealey could tell that Andrew was baffled by her revelation and she studied him subtly as they looked through the games. As she did, Kealey decided that one of two things was true about the younger man. One, he hadn’t met many mutants. That seemed unlikely in this day and age, so that probably meant the second was true. Andrew was a mutant.
Kealey had been at the mansion long enough by this point to realize that sometimes knowing that a person was among people who were genetically similar was enough to make them an even more nervous wreck than they had been before. Sure, they were a mutant, but either they didn’t like to admit it, or they were afraid to.
Andrew spoke again, this time commenting on the games, and Kealey brightened up at the mention of a new Metroid game. She was positive she’d seen that title on the shelf in Shin’s room. ”Ooo, that would be wonderful. If it’s new than I’m almost positive he won’t have it. He’s very busy and probably won’t have had time to get it.” Kealey started looking, hoping the unlikely hope that the title was something like, “Brand New Metroid Game that Shin Doesn’t Have.”
As she looked, Kealey noticed new feelings coming off of Andrew in waves. Fear. Discomfort. Nerves. Her hand hovered over her stomach again as the feelings hit home and the blond swallowed as he made his own admission. Tentatively she reached out a hand towards his shoulder.
”Andrew?” she said, ”It’s okay…it really is. You don’t have to be anxious. Are you new to New York? Your accent sounds about as common place as mine.”
She spotted the game as she looked at her helper and snagged it off the shelf. ”Here, let me pay for this. Do you want to go somewhere and talk? There’s a great little coffee place down the street…you seem like you could use an ear.”

Kealey shrugged her shoulders when Andrew pointed out that most people weren’t as upfront about their X-gene, ”Why would I have a reason not to be? I am who I am. Besides, I‘m either a mutant or I‘m crazy. I‘d rather people know I‘m not crazy, just addled.” Kealey had learned a long time ago that people would either taker her or leave her based on her powers. It was frustrating sometimes, but for the most part she was cognizant of the fact that the people who left weren’t worth her time. That made things easier. Much easier.
Her helper introduced himself and Kealey smiled at the formality and genuinely polite nature of his comments. His name was Andrew, and Kealey nodded her head at the advice he shared, ”That’s very solid advice, your mother must be a very smart woman.” she commented, then pondered his question, eyes screwing up in concentration as she tried to picture the shelf in Shin’s room she’d been sneaking glances at for some time.
”Umm…there are Mario games, and Zelda games, and Metroid games…” she said, drawing a blank on the rest. ”I don’t understand why this is so hard…I was so sure I’d be excellent at this when I was walking in…”
Now Andrew was confused, and unsure about something. Kealey looked at him and sighed slightly, not with impatience, but simply mild frustration with the situation in general.
”You were so nervous earlier, and now you’re confused. Do you need help of some kind?” she asked, coming straight to the point with a comfortable half-smile on her face. An empath couldn’t help being a little nosey…but she could prevent herself from standing around while someone needed help.

OOC: Joint postage! Shin parts written by Shin!
Shin was doing a lot of thinking as they talked about the end of the series and what had happened between the characters. Some of Shin’s initial fervor had calmed, though, and it seemed that Kealey’s admission that the separation of the characters bothered her had given him quite a bit to think about.
Kealey appreciated that thinking, it meant that he really was trying to see things from her point of view. Even if he didn’t totally get it, the fact of the matter would be that she knew he had tried. It meant the world and she settled her head back down onto his shoulder and focused on the warm and squishy feelings she’d gotten so used to. These were nice feelings, very warm feelings, and Kealey thought that they were probably her favorite ones in the whole world.
"... Just so you know, Kealey... I..." He started slowly, watching her reactions. Inside his chest were the warm emotions. He was serious about letting them find words.
There was also something else. Something... difficult? Not quite certain... like he was trying to settle on something. The 'I' hung for a moment, with just those two feelings, dueling.
Shin spoke, and something in his voice or the subtle change in his emotions made Kealey raise her head again, her eyes looking for his. Somehow, it was a slightly tense moment, not necessarily in a bad way, but in a way that felt like the edge of a precipice. There was uncertainty there, and Kealey tilted her head slightly, mild confusion crossing her features.
”You what?” she said softly, hoping everything was alright.
"I..." Shin paused. There was that uncertainty again. It left her hanging.
Kealey frowned slightly, so much uncertainty all of a sudden. What had happened? "Shin? You what?" she said, still softly but a little more emphatically.
Silence, again. Mental wheels were turning. Was it funny? Maybe it wasn't funny...? Ah, what the hell. He thought it would be. The words came out quickly, after he'd made his stand in the sand. "I'mmovingtoItaly...!" They exploded out of his mouth. After it was done, Shin put on his serious-face, just watching her reaction. He clasped his knees with clenched fists.
The silence was absolutely deafening and Kealey found herself getting slightly anxious at the look on Shin's face and the body language he was projecting.
Then he spoke. Kealey's jaw dropped and she let out a sort of half-strangled sound that was partway between a laugh and a frustrated growl. He couldn't be serious. There was no way...was there?
Suddenly, Kealey's slightly confused mind started putting puzzle pieces together in strange ways that possibly fit.
"You're not seriou--?" she started.
Shin cut off off with a finger placed against her lip. An all-knowing smile had slipped its way onto his face. "I'm kidding. Kealey. I'd never leave you like that, and I wouldn't let you leave me. You're stuck with me, girl. I... just wanted you to know that."
Kealey cut off when Shin put his finger against her lips, staring back intently at him as the grin spread across his face. He had been teasing her. For a moment, irritation flashed through the blond, but then Shin spoke and those feelings evaporated.
How did he get her so well? How had he worked out what was upsetting her about the ending of the end of the series? How had he known exactly what to say?
She felt like she should be grinning, but somehow this was serious and she looked Shin right in the eyes.
"Really?" she asked, "That's good, because you've been stuck with me for a while now."
"That's okay," The grin softened. Now, it was just a warm smile. Shin bowed his head. "Because." Dramatic pause. Shin looked her in the eye. "I love you." He just let it hop out and hug her 'hello'.
Another moment passed, another subtle change in emotion, and the smile on Shin's face changed just slightly. Kealey noticed this and found herself smiling back as Shin dropped his head slightly. She was going to say something, but he spoke first.
Because....
It was okay if he was stuck with her...because he loved her.
Three little words. Three little true words. Kealey gasped softly at the revelation, looking at what she was feeling.
"Oh....that's what it was...." she said almost to herself, talking about the warm feelings that had seemingly grown warmer as time passed.
Kealey never broke eye contact, and the only hesitation was while she identified the emotions for what they really were, "I love you too, Shin." she said past her heart, which was currently trying to beat its way out of her throat. Then came the grin, and Kealey had feeling it wasn't going anywhere for a while.
They were both grinning, and yes, it stayed there. It wasn't going away any time soon. But alas, all grinning silences have to be disturbed by something. Shin broke the grin-fest first, turning back to the television screen and slumping against Kealey's side. "So. Garo-movie?" He hugged her hopefully.
The moment was there, and then it was gone...but not really. Kealey knew what all those warm, glowy feelings that had a tendency to settle over her like a blanket were. She was also sure, no positive, about what she'd replied. It was nice to b e so certain, and she kept right on grinning as Shin slumped agianst her and suggested the GARO movie.
"Absolutely." she said, hugging him back tightly. Suddenly, it didn't matter quite as much what happened on the screen, but watching it would still be fun.

He wove off her rambling, and Kealey smiled back. She really had found a diamond in the rough as far as strangers in New York were concerned. Most people would have blown her off from the start, and even if they’d agreed to help…she’d be watching their back as they retreated out the door. Neither was the case now, though, he simply laughed and told her it was fine.
Something changed in his emotions though, and Kealey didn’t miss it for a second.
While he continued to help, she could feel him going through various stages of mild paranoia and anxiety. Had he recognized her subtle innuendo that she was a mutant? It would be a shame if he had and decided not to help…he really was nice, but Kealey had stopped trying to hide what she was a long time ago. There were a few slightly uncomfortable moments while he joined the ranks of uncertainty and Kealey stared at the titles of all the games like they were written in Greek.
He spoke, and Kealey breathed a sigh of relief…he was still going to help her, mutant or not. He rose another point in the blonde’s estimation. ”I’m sorry if I made you uncomfortable before…there are a lot of people between here and the street and it’s got me a little flustered.” Kealey stopped that line of discussion and moved on to the question he’d asked.
”He’s got a Wii…” she said, holding out the games for her helper to see, before sliding them back into place on the shelf, ”I at least managed to figure out that much…and find the right section.” there was a small note of pride in her voice and she smiled as she said it. She’d done well, right up until it was time to actually choose a game.
”My name is Kealey, by the way. It’s a pleasure to meet you….and thanks so very much for the help. I thought that looking at all the games in his room would be enough help me pick something out…but apparently not.”

The younger man looked up, and immediately started to help. Kealey didn’t know if it was something about New York, or simply the people she’d met…but getting help simply by asking was surprising. Unfortunately, it didn’t seem like the gentleman was going to be all that much help. He wasn’t a gamer, but his roomates were. Kealey hoped for a moment that they were here too, and that her helper was going to pull one of them over. Her hopes got even higher as he walked away for a moment, then sunk a bit as he simply came around the end of the shelves to look with her.
What kind of game was she looking for? Kealey shrugged slightly, all the indecision rolling around in her head and her belly and making it hard to think.
