The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Kealey had done smarter things in her life than have someone as young as William drive her through the city. The fact of the matter was, however, that Kealey simply didn’t drive. It was a difficult thing to do when it was so easy to be distracted by the emotions of the other drivers. When they needed to get around, Shin usually just flew them wherever they needed to go and when that wouldn’t work they took a cab.
William insisted that he was okay, that the nerves made it easier for him to focus on the task ahead and Kealey simply nodded though the action would be difficult to see if a person’s eyes were on the road and not their passenger.
The younger man was smart though. He didn’t need to jump in headlong? Wasn’t a cowboy? Was William sure he’d signed up to work on the right team, because most of the X-Men wanted to do or be all of those things.
The aggravation was not lost on the empath and she turned her head to study the young man as he navigated them through the city and wished they knew more about who was coming to help. This close it took some effort but she was not going to get aggravated simply because her co-pilot was.
”The call didn’t specify, just that there would be three additional people to help.” she said ”Surely these are professionals….” Kealey had to have faith, sometimes it was all you had in situations like these.
William spoke again and Kealey nodded again, they were approaching the parking lot now “We’ll know soon enough. Once I’m close I will be able to get a bit more information about the emotional state of things and hopefully calm everything down a bit. Let me know if you change your mind about the nerves.”
Definitely not for the first time, Kealey wished her powers worked on herself and the healthy dose of nerves that she was carrying around.
Glancing down at her wedding band, Kealey closed her hand into a fist. As long as everything was okay, the ring would stay where it was. The rest of the Senior X-Men were out there on the floating nuclear ship and they all knew what they were doing.
A call had gone out. A call that was impossible to ignore when one was an X-Man. When Shin had finally gotten home, so late into the night that it might as well have been considered morning, he’d been hurt. Hurt, but healed by someone who had helped in the fight. The injury had been bad though, bad enough that Kealey had felt a little trill of fear as her husband explained what had happened.
The fear had been that this whole thing wasn’t over and when the sun had risen, the call had gone out again. Multiple calls had gone out.
One for Shin.
One for her.
Well before Michael had been a thought, Kealey had stepped back from official duty with the X-Men. Fighting and violence took a toll on her and while she knew that the city needed people to protect it, she’d felt like her time had come and gone. She still worked at the Mansion from time to time, helping students who needed help in ways that she could provide. She also answered phones, and gave tours when time and baby allowed. This…this was a whole other thing.
Shin was heading for a ship in the bay. A ship that held nuclear energy and was currently being used by a mystical being as a source of power. This was going to be dangerous and a part of Kealey wanted to tell Shin to stay home. To ask him when it was going to be enough. She knew he didn’t want to go…he couldn’t hide things like that from her and the temptation was so strong. She knew they didn’t really have a choice though.
There were two immediate threats though, and while Shin was heading into one, Kealey was going to the other. It was practical for more reasons than one. First, there would be leadership in both places. It had been explained that help was coming from outside the X-Men and someone had to coordinate the chaos. Second, if things did go bad, they were in different places and at least one of them would be able to get Michael and get out of the city.
Michael, who was home safe with Shin’s sister, while his Mother and Father headed into a fight with God knew what.
Kealey was riding in one of the X-Men’s tactical vehicles with a trainee that she didn’t know all that well. She was wearing her X-Uniform and had been thrilled that it had fit just six months after having a baby. The younger man was anxious, as was to be expected, and curious if there was going to be any help. He was also calculating too, probably hoping to plan ahead.
”I can help with the anxiety you know.” she said, by way of answer, “It’s nothing to be ashamed of. It would be far more concerning if you weren’t nervous.”
That hadn’t been the question though and Kealey shook off the other mutant’s emotions as they rolled through the city, ”There will be help. They’re not X-Men though, and I’m not entirely sure who they are or what they’ll be able to do.” Hopefully they weren’t completely hopeless.

There wasn’t a whole lot of time to chit chat, and Kealey was restless and irritable owing to the emotions of the troublemakers in the area. The blond didn’t want to take it out on a complete stranger, so she tried to push those emotions to the back of her mind in a clustered and frustrated little jumble so she could focus on the man, August, instead.
August was…relieved? Kealey could understand that, it would be a relief to find someone else in this sort of scenario if he’d been trying to deal with all of those miscreants on his own. August was also…something Kealey tended to associate with done it was really a jumble of multiple things…but stress, anxiety, malaise, and a number of other things were twining together in the man’s head. Grateful was there too…plenty to work with if the need arose, but also enough that Kealey wasn’t too terribly worried.
August could apparently not turn people into chickens, but there was magic at play here. Real life magic. Shin had filled her in on Mystics and the Welldrinkers and all of the absolute chaos that went with them up to and including the destruction of a fair part of the Mansion. The idea of magic still made Kealey uncomfortable down to the tips of her toes…but judge not lest thou be judged.
The magic that her new ally possessed was suggestive in nature and Kealey nodded her understanding. ”You’ve done well.” she said, then frowned a bit thoughtfully as the man asked what she could do.
”Empath.” she said simply. It would take hours to explain everything about her powers and even then most people wouldn’t understand what she was saying.
“I think I can make people more amenable to your commands. So far I’ve just been doing my best to make them want to stop doing what they’re doing…but I can only work with what’s there…” Unless she could get close enough to touch…but she didn’t share that. Not yet.

Relief, wariness, confusion, weariness. So many different feelings. The wariness from the stranger made Kealey wary and for a moment she considered just fiddling with the man’s emotions enough to make him not dangerous and moving on her way.
The man spoke though, explaining that he was hindering…the troublemakers. Kealey narrowed blue eyes at him, as he gave his name. August. Nothing jumped out at Kealey as indicating that August was lying and there was still a lot of chaos in the street
”Together then.” Kealey said with a short nod. “Did you turn that man into a chicken or was that something of his own doing? “ she asked, glancing around to focus on someone about 20 feet away who was stabbing holes in the tires of a car with a knife. Something about the action was incredibly satisfying to the man with the knife, so Kealey took that satisfaction away despite kind of wanting to feel it again as the man moved towards the back tire of the car. As the satisfaction waned, irritation spiked and Kealey pushed that down too, her own annoyance at the situation rising. Too bad that after all these years she’d never managed to figure out how to manipulate her own emotions.
The miscreant who had been damaging the car had moved on now, muttering to himself and Kealey watched him go for a moment. There was probably more she should have done, but all she wanted right now was her general area to be safe so that she could go back upstairs and resume worrying about her husband.
Turning back to August, Kealey sighed, ”Help me clear this block?”

All things considered, Kealey thought that Shin’s sister would have made a pretty good X-Man. Uncowed by the prospect of taking care of an infant she’d only known for a couple of days Sasami agreed and Kealey made her way to the Master bedroom to throw on clothes and shoes more appropriate than leggings and a t-shirt to go out on the town and potentially curb chaos.
A few moments later, the blond was back in jeans, trainers, and a different t-shirt that she could move in. None of them were originals and she definitely hadn’t broken out her uniform. Kealey was retired from official X-Men duties and didn’t want to give anyone the wrong idea.
Still, Sasami was feeling confident in her work, if still a bit worried for her brother and Kealey did her best to push those emotions to the back of her mind in favor of things that were more productive at the moment.
Out the door and to the elevator Kealey went, patiently waiting as she gauged the general feelings of the people in the building. The elevator arrived and Kealey found herself tapping her foot at about the same time she noticed that a person or several people were feeling rather restless and impatient a couple of floors down. Did they want to leave and were stuck? She wondered as the doors opened and Kealey went inside. Kealey pushed the button for the lobby and the elevator began to descend. As it did so Kealey ticked off the floors, not by watching the windows above the door light up, but by the familiar emotions of the people at certain “landmarks” as she passed.
“Grumpy person” on the 22nd floor was there and grumpy, maybe they needed to get out a bit more? Today though, there was more than enough reason to be grumpy.
“Silly kiddo” wasn’t on the 18th floor and Kealey frowned a bit at the absence of the juvenile glee that tended to wash away the grump from the 22nd floor. Hopefully they and their parents weren’t out in all of this junk.
The 14th floor and “placid contentment” were there, doing their placid and content thing and Kealey sighed a bit as the grump from above dissipated.
From there Kealey felt myriad and varied feelings as the elevator continued on its path and eventually deposited her in the lobby. Towards the doors she went, but was surprised when the doorman stepped up to her, “Mrs Shinbo it’s awful chaotic out there…” he said, concern evident in his voice and more than a little fear present in his emotions.
”It’s alright Tyler, I’m just going to go check things out. You don’t need to worry about me.” It probably sounded a bit funny coming from a woman who barely came to the middle of his chest, but Tyler stepped aside and let Kealey pass. He knew who lived in the upper floors of the building and probably at least a little of what they could do.
Outside Kealey stepped in time to see several things happening at once.
First. Unlawfullness of many kinds was occurring all around. People were breaking into cars, graffiti was being sprayed on buildings, people were running down the street with armloads of things they most certainly hadn’t purchased lawfully….and everyone was just in a frenzy. It made her hands twitch a bit and made her want to find some wild to do herself…she didn’t though…this was not Kealey Shinbo’s first rodeo.
Things were as she’d thought, and that just wouldn’t do. Reaching out with her powers, Kealey looked for anyone with a scrap of calm or logic remaining in their heads and started to focus on amping those feelings up while pushing down the other, more frenzied emotions that didn’t precisely have names. After a few moments, things were much more calm and Kealey started to walk down the street.
It didn’t take long before she came upon two men standing face to face, one of them was making interesting motions with his hands and the other was standing and seemingly watching. The man making the motions didn’t seem to feeling any intense feelings of animosity and after a few moments the other man turned into a chicken and filed away.
“Are you helping or hindering?” Kealey demanded as she marched up to the remaining man, her accent had softened a bit over the years, but the man would absolutely recognize her as Irish and not to be messed with.

The news was on and they weren’t doing a very good job with their coverage, Kealey Shinbo couldn’t help but think as she stood in her apartment high above the streets and watched the “eyewitness accounts” from social media that the news seemed to find sufficient. They definitely weren’t out with helicopters or news vans, having learned from previous chaos that all that did was put their reporters in danger.
Checking her phone again and seeing that there were no messages from her husband, Kealey turned to her sister-in-law and shook her head. Sasami had really chosen an excellent time to visit. Kealey could feel the tension in the other woman along with the worry and the general discomfort that came with situations like this.
”I don’t know why he hasn’t texted.” Kealey said, arms crossed as she watched yet another social media video moving across the news stream. “I’m certain that they called in the X-Men though and there’s definitely enough going on that Shin probably just doesn’t have time to be on his phone.”
Somewhere in the back of her head, Kealey could feel Michael, content and sleeping in his room in the back of the apartment. Usually naps were a time for Kealey to regain her equilibrium and remember what it was like to feel like an adult instead of an infant. Kealey loved nap time almost as much as she loved her son.
This visit had been planned almost from the moment that Michael had been born, with Shin’s family still mostly in Japan, they’d been trickling in to meet their new little relative. Sasami had only arrived two days prior and the visit had been good. Until today.
With their apartment as high up as it was, Kealey didn’t usually feel anything from outside, but suddenly she could feel anger, fear, animosity, belligerence, pretty much all of the things that you feel when you’re in a fight.
Moving quickly to the window, the blonde looked outside to see two people flying and fighting in the vicinity of her apartment.
Absolutely not.
Blue eyes narrowed and Kealey concentrated on all of those aggressive feelings and pushed them down.
The two flying figures slowed in the air, and then came to a stop, staring at each other across a short distance as calm seeped into both of them. Grabbing that calm, Kealey pushed it up until they both looked almost languid hanging there in the air. They turned then and went their separate ways.
Much better.
Turning to Sasami, Kealey shook her head. ”Can you watch Michael when he gets up?” she said with an exasperated little sigh. “I’m going to go downstairs and make sure that everything is safe around the building”

There was a heady amount of suspicion in the emotions of the man sitting in the infirmary. Kealey supposed it was all to be expected, but it was still a lot to try and sort through at the moment. Nearly masked by the suspicion was confusion and...something else. Thoughts moved quickly though, and so did some conversations.
Asked about the lunar festival, the blonde nodded her head, "I'd heard about festivities." she said simply. "I don't do well in crowds though, so I can't say I've paid much attention." Large crowds and empaths didn't mix very well, and Kealey had learned over the years that even though she was pretty good with her powers, it was just better to avoid some situations all together.
All in all, they weren't getting anywhere right now, and the blond sighed. "If we're going to help you, you're going to have to trust me just a little bit. Generally people in your condition get taken to the hospital and there are police reports and things like that. We assumed you're a mutant because how else would you end up on our balcony like that? You're at the Mansion, that's as safe a place as exists in New York city for mutants. Are you in trouble?"
Rebecca was pleased that Kealey was able to accommodate her need for a new costume and Kealey waved the younger woman off as they made their way further into the apartment. The spares were perfectly functional for short-term use, but Kealey knew that it wasn't what she would have wanted long term and she didn't even have powers that extended beyond her mental capabilities. It was perfectly understandable for a person to want functional clothes that didn't look ridiculous to wear when they were putting out fires all over town, whether they were literal or figurative.
"It's not a problem." Kealey said as the approached the table and she spread out the sketches, "This RIP business has me unsettled though. Not that I mind the folks, or that I don't want to help them out...but it seems like their world is a bit different from ours."
It was beside the point, Kealey gestured at the drawings. "Let me know what you think and what needs to be changed. I went off of what you told me and tweaked the source material a bit. Once you're happy with the design, we can start talking about material and accessories."
After all...a girl had to have the proper accessories.

Fashion design was an interesting business. There were so many people in so many shapes, sizes, and varieties, and they all needed different things from the clothes that the wore. Some people needed function over form. Some people needed form over function. Some people literally depended on the clothes they wore to protect them from the hazards they faced in day to day life. Kealey liked to design for all of them. They weren't all her specialty, but it was always fun to stretch one's skills.
X-Men uniforms were a particular favorite for Kealey. It had all started when she'd made a coat for Shin and something for her to wear when they were out on missions. Shin's had bells and whistles...Kealey's just made her feel...well like a super hero vigilante should feel. From there, the blonde had expanded, making new uniforms for everyone on the team. Each one had been unique and well suited to the specific needs of the person who would be wearing it. Powers had to be taken into consideration, as well as functionality. Challenges to say the least.
Glancing at the clock, the blonde set aside the sketches that she and her current client had been working on, Rebecca would be arriving soon to go over details and give measurements and Kealey wanted to be ready.
Almost on cue, a knock came at the door to the apartment and Kealey rose from her seat to allow the knocker entry. "Right on time! Come on in. I've got the sketches we worked on laid out and we can start discussing the finer points." she said, stepping aside to make space. It was always nice to see Rebecca, conversations between the two of them and their respective accents reminded Kealey of home.

This man's emotions were...complicated. Complicated, but not necessarily guilty. The thoughts from the apartment came back to her again, and the blonde couldn't help but think that there was more here than met the eye.
At least they were done with the pretense of unconsciousness. The man spoke, and Kealey listened, oblivious to the workings of his mutation around them as they spoke.
The questions the man asked were more difficult than they seemed on the surface. Who didn't know what the Mansion was? Brows drawing closer together, Kealey considered things for a moment before answering.
"You're at The Mansion. It's a school and...resource of sorts for Mutants." It was at best an open secret that the X-Men were based at the Mansion too, but it wasn't the sort of thing Kealey was simply going to blurt out.
"And I think I'd like to know how you came to be on my balcony on a Saturday morning with a knife in your back. It's not the sort of thing we're used to."

Frustrating. Kealey knew. Kealey knew very well. This was a topic that she and Shin had covered, at length, so many times over the last few years that Kealey had lost count. It wasn't that it was a burden, this was definitely one of those 'for better or for worse' situations that they covered in the vows. Kealey took those vows seriously too.
It was just that sometimes...it was a lot.
This mental block had snapped itself in place all at once and had stayed in place for longer than either of them had thought was possible. It was a frustrating situation and Kealey couldn't help but feel bad for her husband...the problem was, he didn't really want pity. Over time, the frustration had bled over into bitterness and sometimes even hopelessness.
It was hard being an empath in that situation.
Psychic viagra?
Kealey couldn't help it, she burst out laughing. The frustration, Shin's frustration, was still there. It wasn't going anywhere, but the blonde was so used to it at this point that she was able to relegate it to the background and laugh.
"I don't think that they do." she said, "And you know my thoughts on the situation. I don't think there's a thing wrong with your brain."

The circumstances of the man's injuries were...interesting to say the least. Kealey stood in the hallway with her arms crossed, listening to what Doc Prof had to say. There had been a fight of seemingly epic proportions, a knife had been involved, and something big had happened. It probably explained all of the sirens that had been blaring as they'd made their way to the Mansion and the all call that had gone out over the X-communicators. Technically, Kealey had "retired" from active duty when her fashion design business had taken off, but she still kept tabs on things and helped out when things got really hairy. She was meeting with Sam soon to head to the scene of whatever most recent tragedy had struck the city..and it seemed like this man was knee deep in whatever had happened.
Glimmers of consciousness flitted through the walls that separated her, Shin, and the Doc from the man they'd brought to the Mansion. Kealey had questions.
Doc pointed out that the man was probably going to be tired, despite the fact that he was healed. That was okay, Kealey didn't plan to make him do any strenuous exercises. Stepping away for a moment, the blonde called Sam to let him know she was chasing down a lead and would then meet him to head to the scene and then opened the door. Shin would follow when he was ready.
The man didn't look all that sick anymore. The sickly yellow pall that had tinted his skin had faded back to a more neutral skin tone and he was breathing much more easily than when they'd arrived.
"I know you're not awake." Kealey said softly, approaching the prone man but staying out of arm's reach. "My husband and I brought you to The Mansion, sister school to Xavier's School for the Gifted and our Doctor healed your wounds. My name is Kealey and my husband is Tetsuya, I'd like to ask you what happened, if that's alright." She left out the fact that she was basically a human lie detector. Conversations were much more interesting this way.

OOC - Skipping Trace due to unconsciousness with his permission.
The injured man was fuzzy again, drifting on a fine line between consciousness and unconsciousness. It was disorienting to the blonde and she frowned slightly as Shin pointed out that it was obvious that the man had flown in...like Shin used to be able to do.
Kealey almost rolled her eyes. They'd been over this time and again, mental blocks weren't the type of thing that could be broken by force. They had to be worked through methodically. They'd been trying things, and eventually the things would work...even if it would be great to have access to a shard platform right this moment. They'd simply have to make due with what they had.
A dull thud and a metallic thud drew Kealey's attention and she scowled slightly at her husband and his wounded hand. He was frustrated and a bit sheepish, she just about told him off...and then she saw the platform. It was forest green and looked just about big enough to fit three people.
Blue eyes widening, Kealey gasped softly, "Shin..." she breathed softly, as if afraid that speaking too loudly would shatter the construct.
"Let's get him up there and get to the Mansion." Kealey said, a wide grin spreading across her features. Now they really had a chance to save this guy and find out what was going on.

The emotions returned, albeit slowly, and Kealey breathed a small sigh of relief. It would have been terribly bizarre if the man had simply fallen from the sky and died on their balcony with no explanation whatsoever. The man was in a bad way though, and Kealey's brow furrowed as he spoke.
Cops...were bad? Briefly, the small blonde wondered if they were in the company of some kind of criminal. It didn't feel that way though, it really didn't. The stain of criminal acts was difficult to scrub clean from a soul, and Kealey could usually tell if she was dealing with a particularly bad character. That didn't seem the case though.
"I think he needs medical attention more quickly than that..." Kealey said, glancing up at Shin as she knelt down next to the bleeding man. "we should take him to Doc Prof." The Doc was the best at what he did, after all, and questions could always be asked after the life-threatening injuries had been taken care of.
There was quite a lot of blood. Time was obviously becoming of the essence, and Kealey barely caught herself before asking Shin to fly them there to avoid traffic and general New York drama. Shin's powers still weren't behaving properly, even after all this time, it would have been wrong of her to pressure him in this kind of situation...he'd only feel guilty after the fact when it didn't work out.
"I'm curious why he thinks the cops are bad though...and how he got so high up." she said instead, more curious than ever about what had brought this man to their balcony.
It was Saturday, and Saturdays were for sleeping in. This was a fact that had been established early on in the Shinbo's relationship. Both Kealey and Shin had busy work lives and as time went on, their weekends had become more and more sacred. Sometimes things interfered, like fashion shows or other weekend activities, but not this weekend.
This weekend found the young couple sitting propped up on pillows, browsing on tablets and generally just wasting time. It was lovely.
It was lovely right up until a scream rent the air, followed by a loud thump. Looking up from her tablet, Kealey cast out with her powers. There was someone there...close by, probably on the balcony. They felt...persecuted, they were hurt and confused....and scared. Then there was nothing...
"Shin....I think someone might have just died on our balcony...." she said, already working to get her legs untangled from the bedclothes.
