The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Rex was a good guy... clearly. Almost too good to be around the ice wielder. Sam let out a loud sigh again, one that revealed how much Rex was right. Sam was trying to be good. It wasn’t always cut and dry but he tried. He could have crippled the cultist with ease and dealt with the falling out between him and Rex after however he didn’t attack. It wasn’t worth the headache he was already concussed.
”It takes more than that to put me down...” Sam agreed and sighed again. He killed a demon and saved the hostage. He had worked out some of his frustrations in life... that was enough for Sam... at least for now. ”****ing boy scout.” he said out loud.
It was irritating but Sam was glad Rex was there with him. It would be easy for the icemancer to slip into older habits. Mirror was one of the people who kept him from that, they encouraged him to be good. To choose to do good. Spare lives and save the day... though lately his moral compass wasn’t pointing north. It was busy dealing with a depowered daughter and the headaches that came with the mansion blowing up... again.
Rex righted the compass. ”Don’t need a sermon every time we are together.” he said reluctantly. Part of him wanted to bring up the demon of ice Rex killed but knew it wasn’t worth it.

His thermal sense was still active. Nothing went unnoticed by him, even if he wasn’t looking directly at his plate of bacon. He could feel the heat coming off it and then her hand snag something from the pile. Sam smiled and didn’t say anything yet. First one was free. She was a new teammate after all.
The frown was concerning, by now he was looking at her again seeing as he started the topic off. Knowing as much as he did about the origins of SUPER and the people that worked there. Even if Sam was friendly with some of them he still didn’t trust the organization as a whole. Which was why he was asking Lenna about them for clarity? Information? He wasn’t sure exactly what yet but she seemed to have more experience than most. Also a run in with a recovery team? Interesting. Sam filed that away along with the names she mentioned for later.
”........” he eyed the girl before him. She was still a kid. One that was talented in the field but still a kid. He had to remind himself of that when she asked him if her hands were still clean. Before he could ask what kind of information she was going after.
Sam pitied her. ”Kid...” he let out a loud sigh and grabbed his coffee, ”I’m not sure I’m the one that should be answering that kind of question.” he showed off his own hands, ”I’m still scrubbing them. Been years, and I’m sure it will be more before I’m sure they are clean. But, it’s next to impossible to have clean hands given the lives we were brought up in.” he said honestly.
”I still see them at night, the people, the things I did.... you’re asking the right question though. Meaning they are cleaner than mine and I’ll do what I can to keep them that way.” he had plans for her, she was talented in the field and had enough training to handle most situations. She was going to help him run some of the more... morally grey missions that the rest of the team wouldn’t be cool with. That was up until the question. He’d be no better than those that kidnapped them when they were young.
Taking a sip from his mug and eyeing his plate of bacon he added, ”I found when you stop asking that question you stop caring. Better than me.” he took a bite of bacon knowing what he was capable of. What he had done. It took years of therapy, multiple relapses with drinking to come to terms with what he had done and what he had to do to keep his team, his family safe.

After he was done running her through a brief history of his life, knowing that some of the juicier bits were left out (on purpose) he took another sip from the mug and added, ”Take your time. Food still isn’t here.”
His lone eye shot over to the pair that had entered and chose to sit across the diner. They were far enough away where Sam couldn’t see the faces. The only inclination Lenna would get that Sam was on edge was a chill in the air and some frost appearing on the window next to them. Another sip and Sam started to listen to Lenna’s upbringing. One that sounded more and more similar as it went on.
Another kidnapping. Another set of parents dead. His fingers tightened slightly around the mug the more he thought about another child robbed of a chance to grow up ‘normal’ and not being turned into a weapon. It made him sad that there were other people in the world (worlds) just as messed up as the ones who took him as a child.
His blue eye shifted back to Lenna who was looking down. Was it shame or was she in thought? His was shame, he was ashamed of most of the things he did when he was younger. To be manipulated so easily...
She trailed off as the food arrived. A big helping of breakfast. Fresh in house Corned beef hash, three eggs slightly runny and bacon. Lots of bacon, all the bacon. Sam smiled at Doris and waited till she left before looking back to Lenna eager to hear the rest. The food could wait. It was still steaming.
Taking it all in he waited till she was finished. The ‘Yay’ was his que. It also reminded him that she was still a kid. It brought a sad smile to the icemancers face. There was no judgment. Just an understanding and a hint of jealousy that she didn’t have to do what the other Lenna did. What he had to do.
”Repercussions.” he said slowly knowing that was the word she was struggling with. ”So you’re still trying to piece everything together...” the wheels were turning in his head as he grabbed a crispy piece of bacon. His stomach growled and he took a bite. He could talk to Sabine. Get the information about any missions the other Lenna had done. He could also call some contacts that would know doubt know of the old Lenna. The dead one. Part of him wondered if she was actually dead.
”Thank you. For telling me all of this. It sets my mind at ease a bit. I don’t like being surprised with information like this later down the road and from now on you don’t have to deal with the repercussions alone. You’re an X now. You have the team to help you if you need it. Myself included. I can help you finish putting the missing pieces together if you want.” he gestured to the food and took another bite.
”So I take it you know all about SUPER and those working for them? Take it you met Sabine then... Nice lady.” he said sarcastically. She was at the mansion before it was destroyed relaying information to all parties involved. They would have had to meet at some point especially if they worked for the same group.

”Suit yourself.” Sam said eyeing the man then looking to the terrified woman who was still shaking from the shock. Or the cold. Was he still cold? No, he turned it down at the request of Rex the first time. Maybe not everything right around him but they should be warming up. Sam had to make sure he was still protected.
”They blew me up... twice.” Sam said counting the last one not as much. He was at least ready for it. Sam wanted to leave the cultists a message. ‘Never do it again.’ The kidnapping or trying to blow him up. Sam practically growled at Rex voicing his frustrations he wasn’t allowed to take out on anyone else.
Technically he was law enforcement and seeing as magic was still relatively new he wasn’t sure what would stick and what wouldn’t. Kidnapping? Sure, terrorizing this woman sure. Opening a portal to hell and summoning a demon? He had the head. That should be proof enough right? ”Fine.” Sam said with another grunt glad there was someone else making sure he didn’t go too far with his... solutions to problems.
Rex was a good man, Sam needed more people like that in his life. Optimistic. Hopeful. It was becoming rarer and rarer in the icemancers life.

The coffee’s were the first thing to arrive. The usual would be out in a few minutes after that after all it was a heaping helping of breakfast. “Here ya go ‘hon. I’ll be back soon.” the waitress said in her raspy voice. Sam nodded and looked back to Lenna who had asked him to go first. If any other student asked him to talk about his life before he was in New York he would have scoffed and laughed, however Lenna wasn’t like the other students. She was also a teammate. An X. Meaning she would need more information should anything arise... again.
”Yeah... guess it’s only fair.” he said mulling over his coffee before he sniffed it first and then drank it. ”Sure you heard about it from the other students, but a few years ago I was... under the influence of a telepath. One I shared my childhood with. She controlled me to kidnap a few of the students to... bolster the ranks of a organization I thought was long past dead. T.A.T.M.A.H. was the name of the organization. They had a few names but they all were based off the theory that the only good mutant was one who could be... controlled.” he didn't say the means of control but it should have been pretty obvious given his skill set and her having a similar childhood.
”I was around five when my powers started to manifest, started small. Ice, snow and immunity to the cold. It wasn’t much but when someone from T.A.T. got a hold of the information they decided to... recruit me. It was a kidnapping. I grew up in a small cell, only time I was allowed out was for training or lessons. Eventually they started to send me on missions.” the door opened and the sound of a bell rang.
Sam stopped talking for a moment and sipped his coffee. “Sit anywhere ya like honey! Be right with ya.” shouted Doris the waitress who was busy making another pot of coffee.
”At first it was just infiltration. I was small, quick and... resourceful. Meaning after sometime I started to get selected for more than just breaking and entering. My powers kept me safe. Protected. Meaning after some time they sent me on more violent missions.” Sam sipped his coffee.
“They trained me... made me think I was helping people. Not just hurting them. Ten years I lived that life until I decided to hit my teenage rebellious phase. Broke out.” he sipped his coffee again. It was robust. Something that could wake even the dead.
“When I escaped took out half of the organization as I went. Destroyed the base and made my way here.” he said glossing over the gorier parts of his childhood. The first time he killed someone on accident. The first time he did it on purpose... Sam never liked the fact he enjoyed it.
The icemancer wasn’t too proud of it all but it happened and he had been dealing with it ever since. Finding multiple outlets to deal with it. Some more harmful than others.

The door opened and the ringing of the bell overhead signaled to the staff that more customers were entering. “Hey! Be right with you!” it wasn’t your typical coffee joint, no this was more of a diner. A small one. A gem Sam had found when he was looking for a place to sober up or find a place where he could hide instead of drinking.
It was one of his most kept secrets from the team and his friends. Lenna was the fourth person he knew that he brought here. Cora was the first. Then Eve, then Iris and now Lenna. ”We don’t talk about this place got it? I like the fact that it is hard to find.” the icemancer said knowing she could appreciate the secret. The diner was under an over pass sandwiched between two taller buildings. If you lived in the area you knew the diner. Otherwise it was hidden.
They also had the best breakfast he had come across which was saying a lot.
”I like the fact that no one really knows me here and I won’t bump into anyone else I know.” he took the back booth. One with a clear line of sight on all exits and even the nearby building rooftops. The angle was enough to create a bad shot from above if anyone was trying to shoot at him but enough for him to see. A habit from early on in life he kept with him.
Sitting down he gestured to the spot across him and slid into the booth looking out a window to see the rain coming down hard on the streets outside. ”I know it’s a trek here but the coffee is always fresh and the food is always good.
An older waitress approached and slid two beaten up menus in front of them. She looked tired but held a sassy smirk as she eyed Sam. “How ya doing hon?” she said with a raspy voice like she spent half her life chain smoking, “The usual? And for your friend here?” she put her hands on her hips and waited for Lenna to respond. Before nodding and walking off. To yell out the order in the back as she got the coffee.

Birds. There was his air support. More useful than Zek and Carrick.
There was a blast of something, “Magic” he cursed and held up an ice encased arm as the armor slipped off him into a clone. Stepping back he iced back up and looked to the man who appeared next to him. It was someone he didn’t know. But he was here to help. Part of Sam wanted to swing at him just in case. It was a warzone after all.
Sam eyed the green comet impact the school and vanish. There was their heavy hitter. Fire erupted next and he saw someone jump into the school. Was that Javier. Nope. He wouldn’t be here.
Looking back to the newcomer, “Good!” Sam said as he grabbed the man and pulled him to the side as red blip of energy through the space that was occupied by the man’s head. “Behind!” before shooting a beam of blue at the attacker who froze in place.
“Move.” Sam said guiding him, “How can you help? That guy needs to be stopped if we are going to get through this.” he said pointing to the tattoo’d covered mystic who was dispatching elements and spells like crazy. Sam already saw two elements and some shield from the man, not to mention the monstrous strength.
“I’d say Herc, but it looks like he isn’t strong enough.” responding to Mirror over the coms. That was when things changed quickly. Jorge stepped in. Then the lighting came. “****”

”Ah.” he tried to get into video games at one point. Took too much of his time and energy, meaning the focus was pulled from other aspects of life. Ones he deemed more important. ”Good to know where he got the color scheme though. Couldn’t understand it.” Sam said smirking.
”Sounds good. Coffee it is.” he knew a little bit of the history but more information, any possibility that someone could come back from her past to haunt her or the rest of the team... Sam wanted to be ready for it. Prepared. He wasn’t going to get caught vulnerable like when Amanda attacked the team using the himself as a conduit. The team had a right to be ready.
”We haven’t done miniskirts in years. For good reason.” he said as Lenna the student talked about her rear. Coughing and clearing his throat, ”They aren’t practical and yeah, we do lowkey suits and more flashy ones. Depends on the mission. We also fit you for cold gear as well. Been a while since we went to the artic.” he said in all honesty. Antartica however... that was a pretty recent one for Sam.
”Sometimes, people need to see us in action. Know that someone is there to help them. Give them hope when they want to give up.”

”Sure thing.” Sam said but didn’t move for a moment. Part of him wanted the man to get frost bite. Normally his ice prisons didn’t cause immediate damage but he wasn’t exactly thinking straight. He did get hit by two explosions tonight. **** magic.
”Gimme me a second.” the man was willing to sacrifice someone to summon a demon. Another second he raised his hand and gave a slight wave. Nothing happened at first but the ice started to crack and weaken until large chunks were dropping off into the grass and pavement near him.
”Frost bite would have been a good reminder. Could have crippled him too. Give him a permanent reminder not to try and summon a demon again. Or kidnap anyone. Might give everyone else a warning not to try it.” he said thinking out loud knowing Rex would have argued.

She was... gifted. The same way Sam was in the field. Training for most of your life would do that to you. A subject he hoped would come up more next time they both had the time for it. Now probably wasn’t one of those times. ”Waluigi?” Sam asked when the name she had given Private Dancer. He didn’t correct her though. She earned to call him whatever she wanted. There was no casualties.
”Well you did it. And this was based off an actual rescue Mirror and I did a few years back. I didn’t change anything about him. He’s... dangerous. Might seem over the top but he’s got a list offenses a mile long. Likes to torture people for his own amusement. In fact any time he tried to rob a place it was only for attention. In fact I wouldn’t put half of our teammates against him. Too dangerous.” he said in all honesty.
”Good! I’ll inform the others! Javi will be in contact with you at some point to get you fitted for a suit, I’ll also be asking you a little more about your history when you got time. You don't’ have to tell me everything. Just a ‘get to know my new teammate’ conversation.” he said curious about her past. Maybe she knew more about his than she let on.

”Says you.” he could do a lot with a knife or a sword. Even more was open to him if it could cancel out magic. Something that had been giving not only him but everyone he cared about a hard time. He’d bring it up to Becca or even Afoie. While he didn’t trust the woman she owed him.... thinking about Afoie helping him... maybe he really was concussed.
”Enough.” the icemancer said looking to it then holding up a mirror copy of it. His eye was focused on the two that weren’t up. Three. ”Three.” but that didn’t mean anything. How many times did he get rattled? Enough where they usual questions didn’t work. Hell he could probably even still fly the X-jet... wait was that destroyed?
The fire appeared and Sam took a step back cutting his thermal sensing focus from the area around it but still kept focus on everything right around him. ”I’m just gonna lay down for a minute. Not sleep... just lay down.” he stepped away from the vomit.
Finding a thick patch of grass then sat down with a loud grunt. ”I feel old.” he said finally as he laid back. ”Still, killed a demon. Still got it.” he half wondered if the head was still around. Proof. Could he mount a demon head?
The icemancer had half a mind to freeze the woman’s feet to the sidewalk. Half a mind, the other just wanted to be out of there. Going someone where else. Anywhere else really. This was what he got for doing heroics. A headache and a feeling that he needed a drink. Which was bad, seeing as he was in front of a bar at the moment.
"Sam Johnson. The X-mansion? Well, well, you are an important fellow arent'cha?"
His frown stayed, as he watched the woman try to play coy. He didn’t drop things. They were taken from him. He knew enough growing up with nothing that things that belonged to you needed to be protected. His concern for the woman after her incident made him lower his guard. It wouldn’t happen twice. ”Doubt it.” he growled and held his hand out for his wallet. She could have the money if she wanted it. He didn’t need it.
His hand snatched the wallet out if the air before it hit him in the chest. If she thrown it any harder she would have gotten an ice slick under her feet... the thought was still floating in his mind. ”not today it seems.” he said ignoring her flirtation. It was starting to be more trouble than this was all worth.
His body iced up the second he saw her go for her side his hand at the ready and blue already ready to be shot forward. He saved her and she was pulling a gun to... shoot herself. ”the @#$%?” Sam asked as her speech slurred. This was an unexpected turn.
There was a truck. Sam growled again, ”Gotta be kidding me!” he ran to her downed body and then they vanished. Leaving Sam to in line to get hit by a truck. ”Mother ****er!” he shouted having been tricked twice by the same person. He jumped and held his hands out. His armor condensed and got bigger as the vehicle impacted and Sam was sent rolling up the vehicle.
”Now... I need a drink...” the icemancer said as he slowly got up and limped to the bar he was in front of. Doc could heal him later.

“Run!” the clone said again as Svetlana moved around it to return fire at Travis. It was a shootout now. People, the sane ones ran as soon as the shots were fired a few stayed to record the show.
The temperature fluctuations continued as Sam seized on the ground. The clone next to him held him down best it could as it was protecting him from Travis. Who shot some bullets in their direction.
Nothing should be getting close, spikes of ice rose and fell each time his hand twitched. He was out of control. It was random and unpredictable. His teeth clenched as his eye fluttered all over the place.
”Daddy!” the sound of his little girl screaming for help as he was being held back. Images of his house burning and him being powerless to stop it losing the only family he had ever made his own. A frozen tear flickered down Sam’s face as he was seeing images he did his best to repress and forget. He failed them as well.
“Stop!” the clone on top of the icemancer shouted in Sam’s gruff voice. It was a warning to all who were near and to the icemancer himself. A blade of ice formed in one of it’s hands ready to stab the X-leader if it continued. They didn’t want to hurt anyone. No one except Travis.

The former assassin only got so far before he cursed into the streets, he was distracted by her. She seemed out of it a frail and she lifted his wallet. The four point check he did revealed he had everything except his wallet. ”Mother ****er!” he stopped in front of the bar and turned to see the woman he had just had coffee with. Trouble. She told him her name was trouble.
”Trouble.... tell me you didn’t just lift my wallet after I saved you from that guy?” Sam suddenly felt the need to unthaw the guy and let him finish the job. Technically he wouldn’t be breaking a promise. He’d just free the guy that would kill her. Not like he’d be pulling the trigger.
That wasn’t how he was anymore though. ”You asked if I ever want to do something bad...” he held out his hand for the wallet and a chill in the air washed over the surroundings near Sam. ”Gonna ask you once trouble.... Please can I have my wallet back?”
It had a photo I.D. a picture of him and his brother when they were kids and a photo of him in Cora in it. The second one was taken last year over one of their mountain climbing trips. Both of them had sentimental value. The wallet held a few credit cards and his business card to the mansion which had been destroyed recently. Other than the photos he was willing to part with it all.

She didn’t answer his thoughts... instead she deflected by asking if he always did the right thing. Something Sam made note of. It seemed she wasn’t all too fazed by the attack or the possible concussion. ”Depends who is asking and my mood on the day.” he said honestly again.
”All the time, trouble.” he had done enough things to consider him bad by anyone’s standards. Over half of his life was a bloodied one. If anything he was trying to make up for it now. At least he was trying. Or so he told himself. Old habits were hard to break and there was even the thought of killing the guy he encased in ice but knew he’d disappoint a few important people in his life. Something he was trying to prevent. Another reason he quit drinking.
Taking a sip of coffee after giving it a good smell he realized that Daydream ate most of her food if not all of it while reaching around him for napkins, condiments and... his bacon burger. While he was looking forward to it he also reminded himself that this was probably some form of shock she was dealing with and she was paying for it so he leaned back a little when she went for it. Given the moment, anyone else would have gotten frostbite.
She was like a female version of Zek and Sam didn’t have the patience to deal with it today.”Welp, you seem well enough...” he took another long sip of his coffee and grabbed the badge and pulled a few bills from his pocket despite her offer to pay for it all earlier and set them on the counter.
”Trouble, try and stay out of it and enjoy the pie.” before finishing his coffee and heading to the door. His thermal sense still covering his surroundings for anything fishy.
