The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

"If everyone else is busy throwing punches and visiting Doc Prof, maybe it's time for at least one person who doesn't make everything a biohazard with spilled blood." It was kind of a random retort, but then Aiden was distracted, short on sleep, and increasingly annoyed. There might also be something to be said for having his first bit of alcohol floating around.
Inhibitions aside, though, Aiden was still having little trouble floating around the Danger Room. He was moving enough to generate a fair amount of his own snow now, and expected it to make it harder for Sam to track his movement. He couldn't expect it to make him invisible, especially with what the senior X-Man had said about his temperature sense, but every little bit of camouflage ought to help.
He also needed to remember that it impacted his sight as well. The ice shards glinted differently than the snow, and certainly moved differently, but they didn't have as much contrast as Sam did. Aiden saw them too late to dodge entirely, but did see a leg that wasn't made of frozen water. He let himself fall backwards, breath sucking in as two of the ice shards bit into his chest.
Aiden rolled backwards, snow spiralling in to repaint his flesh white where red had briefly shown, but needed a moment to regain his feet and fluidity.
"The car to the face or the mystery mountain?" he muttered, rubbing at the ice shards' tracks. They were shallow and almost healed, but the faint shape of the ragged tears in his shirt were still present. His old shirts didn't fit and he hadn't had an opportunity to really go shopping yet. And he actually had to go out in person at least once because he didn't freaking know what size shirt he was anymore, so he couldn't just buy everything online.
It probably wasn't very visible, given the white-on-white of Aiden's snow form, but there was a bit of an eye twitch there.

"Would they hear you if you tried?"
He wasn't going to have time for snark for much longer, even if his ability to heal more or less kept him from getting tired. He could still get dehydrated, and stopping to get a drink wasn't really helpful. At least it wasn't hot near him anymore; the air was soundly into not-melting territory now.
As another ball of humanly trapped flame smashed to the ground, Aiden edged his sphere of influence a little to the side, seeking to keep himself away from the flame while also using the puddle of fire as a barricade continuous with the snow no one wanted to enter - yet.
They were starting to push forward, though, with one woman approaching with a fire extinguisher. He couldn't get close enough to her to interfere, not without approaching the fire. Tsk. The other group, a couple of guys -
Downside to local blizzards. He really couldn't see very far, even if the snow only extended to about fifteen feet. By the time the snowflakes stopped falling, his vision had already been obstructed. He could hear his comm just fine, but outside noise was a little bit muffled as well. Plus he had music playing through it, but that was set up to not interfere with outside noise too much.
There was someone in the snow. There were footsteps that were less muffled, more crunchy, as someone ran towards him. If Aiden were inclined to swear, this would be about the time; instead, he set his teeth, drew his batons on the next arm movement that allowed it without ruining the snowfall, and met fist with metal-cored wood.
His opponent, a large, hairy individual crammed into a coat that wasn't quite big enough and restricted arm movement more than it protected against cold. "Got some company. Doubt he'll be able to land anything, though." Braver than trained, and hindered by the coat as well as his poor footing. Aiden did train with the x-men, after all, and some of the most combat-experienced of them.

((OOC: when you are very late in noticing you posted with the wrong account... for clarity! no, Adder does not spontaneously gain the ability to look like Aiden))
...was being human worse to snakemint?
Adder's ears flicked back and he eased backwards a bit, now even more flustered. Especially when he tried to shift back to wolf but couldn't concentrate enough, so there was just a jittery white haze around his shoulders for a bit that couldn't quite get itself to coalesce into fur.
This was not going well. What a day for his first class.
At least he could nod, and so claim kitten. Not that her behaviour really helped: when snakemint put her down, the kitten jumped onto her foot to swipe at an ankle, then raced away to climb, claw-over-claw, up Adder's leg. And ribs. And head, biting the point of his ear on her way for good measure.
Adder had learned to stand still while being climbed, because trying to either stop her or help her almost always turned out far worse. Once she was settled on the top of his head, paws growing more and more tangled in his messy hair, he dabbed at the little points of blood rising on his bare skin. There were quite a few similar tiny scabs to keep the new holes company.
It also kept him from immediately answering, skirting around the subject in his head a few times. "Adder," he finally said, almost sulking at having to say it.

Saphirus and the cops worked around him, but Aiden kept his attention focused on two very different things: his music, and therefore his movement, and the mob that was, for now, nervously edging away from his sphere of influence. Whether from discomfort or concern over what might be involved, at least it was working so far. He had some of their attention, and they weren't thinking purely about rioting.
His in-helmet speakers rolled into the next song, and Aiden picked up the pace. The snow was getting heavier now, and as he worked it grew only thicker. The last flecks of colour vanished from his body, and here and there when the snowflakes gusted together he had a hard time fully distinguishing himself from the background. Sometimes it felt rather eerie. Most of the time it sort of just was, like how fresh snow covering things just... was.
He didn't stop moving as his music faded out, replaced by Saphirus' very much not especially melodic voice. He let a hand drift to his throat to trigger his own microphone. "Really, fire? Do they have to start with fire?"
Joking aside, though he kept moving as planned Aiden prepared to draw the batons at his hips. If he needed them, he couldn't wait until he was swallowed by the crowd; he wouldn't have space. He had to be very logical about this, and not fall into the trap of feeling his way through it. That just muddled things and then he'd have to deal with not wanting to hurt people.
So, logic. If he drew them too early, would it change anything?
Oh sh- that was something flying through the air at him. Logic flew out the window and Aiden just reacting, barely getting a baton up in time to swat the thing down. It smashed against the pavement and burst into flame; Aiden backed up, though it didn't burn particularly hot, and then moved around it to take up his position again, the edges of the snowfall slowly drifting after him. At least the crowd was as hesitant to walk into the dying flames as he was.

This? Aiden sidestepped the grouped punches as best he could, catching the edge of the last on a rib and wincing. "I'm still just aiming for a decent nap," he muttered, and quick-stepped back a bit. Seriously, why had he agreed to this? Other than the sleep. This ought to give him a couple of minutes so far. How much did he want to go for?
He just sighed at Sam's attempts to taunt him. He didn't like hitting people, especially people he knew. Even Sam hadn't been annoying enough to make Aiden want to hurt him. Yet.
He was getting annoying enough to make Aiden want to show him up a little bit, though. No, dancing wasn't all he could do - but it certainly had its uses, like allowing him to dive sideways over Sam's leg, rolling a bit and landing on one of his batons: he twisted it to dig the handguard into the fresh ice and kicked off it to launch himself back at Sam.
At which point he did not attempt to land a blow, but instead just 'danced' past.

Random person knew his name.
Even if she looked vaguely familiar in a super vague kind of way, not okay not okay not okay! Worse than the whole riot situation. Yeah. It really really was.
... Pause. This was not the appropriate time for jumbled priorities. That would be for later. And then he could work out a code name so that people wouldn't just know his name that was clearly the reason for code names why hadn't he realized that before?
Aiden evened out his breathing while Saphirus discussed the situation with the head honcho cop, and double-checked the volume on his music system. Being officially integrated meant that he'd actually be able to hear any radio communication - yay technology - and that there weren't any stray wires to get tangled, but it was also kind of awkward to set up because none of the controls could be too easily accessible. Plus everything temperature-sensitive had to be insulated.
He had so much appreciation for the people who designed the thing, when he had the time and inclination to be openly appreciative of anything. Right now... there. Mission playlist, song one, ready for trial run number one.
Aiden drew in another breath and blinked sweat out of his eyes, even if it just got caught in his eyelids. Silver lining was that he was going to make the heat go away. He just had to make it to that without freaking himself out over the awkwardness of -
Nope.
He didn't need to have a sign on his hand saying 'Don't think about X.' He just had to recognize it and divert. He'd had practice avoiding painful things. Now he just needed to avoid embarrassing things. Just focus, breath, and, on Saphirus' signal -
Music on, best foot forward. He didn't need anyone's opinion or critique. He just needed his power to agree.
And as the trainee stepped out towards the roiling mess of riot, he let Evening Star's Kingdoms open his list, stepping in smooth loops and spiralling outwards. Snow sprang up all through his path, thick drifting flakes accompanied by a marked drop in temperature.
So far so good. Next step, full snow, and then maintaining it until it was actually safe to stop, not slipping up prematurely.

He thought his heart would be pounding. Stress, anticipation, pressure, nerves.
It was easier to think about how his newly refitted uniform fit - well, not as tight in the shoulders as he'd found his old shirt size, and not as black as most of the new uniforms so he'd maybe be a tiny bit less likely to overheat and collapse at a really, really inopportune moment - than about what was going on, but somehow it wasn't really all that hard to think about that either.
Riots. Like what had gone on just before Cafas had convinced him to join the team. Had Cafas actually done any convincing, or had it kind of just happened? He attributed the decision to Cafas, but then again Cafas had kind of just fixed most of his life, so...
Had to say, though. Helicopters. Not a fan of flying in general, especially after Alaska, but that had been all airplanes. Sometimes airplanes that looked smaller than this helicopter. And definitely more... rickety.
Aiden had to swing his batons into his lap to sit comfortably-ish in the aircraft, and then his hands were busy settling the headset into place. Basically a super heavy set of headphones and mike. Nothing too unfamiliar there, other than the part where he hadn't played a multiplayer video game in literal years. This set cut out excess noise really nicely. If it weren't so heavy and clunky, he'd want a set for running.
Then Saphirus was talking, and Aiden's focus flicked away from the equipment to his partner and senior. "I'll be going after myself first if I suck," he retorted, adjusting the microphone a little bit more. The plan made sense, and was really the best use of him he could think of. His other thought was more like what had happened in his tryouts, but that was just being another body. If there was something more he could do, that was best. That was what it meant to be an X-Man a lot of the time. Do something in a way no one else could.
"If I disappear, I'm probably not actually dead," he said. "I'm not planning on another Alaska thing, though."
Urg, half-yelling into a mike was not easy on the throat. They were in the air, though, and Aiden's stomach was less thrilled about it than his throat was about the shouting. And then Saphirus jumped out of the helicopter.
Like a total - hm. Idiot or boss? Debateable, although not a debate he'd let either Saphirus or Sam, who got to hang out in the chopper a little longer and wasn't supposed to be drinking any more than he already had so far, hear in any way, shape, or form.
Aiden took the normal way down, thinking all the way that rappelling out of a hovering helicopter was something he both didn't want to have to do again and was something that would be infinitely easier with more practice, so he'd probably have to go and do it over and over in the Danger Room sometime soon.
And over, and over, and over. Or learn to fly. That would help too, but honestly would take a lot more work.
And he didn't want to fly. He liked being on the ground.

"I'm okay, I'm okay," Aiden reassured her, pushing himself sideways so he was at least sitting in the chair and not awkwardly sprawled across it face-first. "And even if I was bleeding, you'd just have to turn snow on in here."
Of course, that would lead to him fainting afterwards, most likely, and probably stressing out Maya even if he warned her and she remembered whatever she had previously known about that little side effect. It was primarily Cafas who had had to deal with it, after all. Maybe he should have trained with more people? Not something he could change now. He couldn't change the past no matter how much he wanted to. But he could change what he did from now on...
as long as they didn't expect him to hit them.
"I guess you could call it camping. West coast branch, arctic training in Alaska. Pretty remote, up in a big chunk of mountains. Fly-in only. Out on a glacier. But we'd been there for a few days without anything happening, and I only sort of remember that something happened. But if we make the Danger Room full of snow, you might have to wait for me to wake up afterwards."

Oh please no.
"Please don't call me that," Aiden muttered, turning to keep an eye on Sam even though they hadn't really started yet. He had a feeling that there wasn't going to be any sort of formal start, though, so he didn't let his focus fall completely on finding his balance and adjusting to the familiar-forgotten weight of the batons. "You're more of a Frosty anyway. Have you looked in a mirror?" All glittery with ice on his skin.
...not that Aiden could really say anything about glittering. Snow sparkled way more than ice. Ice was just shiny.
"If I didn't heal, I never would have survived long enough to enroll here in the first place." Sam was way more mobile than he was. And faster, and more experienced, and more practiced with a vastly more powerful mutation. If this were a real mission, and Sam were an actual opponent, Aiden would be ----ed.
So very, very much.
Pain? Wait, there was his move. Aiden moved a little more onto the balls of his feet, regular runners more familiar but less flexible than his original uniform's footwear, and pivoted clear of the first kick. Fresh snowflakes spun and danced in his path, kicked into both motion and existence by the fluid motion -
And then made their oh-so-casual way over when he turned right into a second attack. A fist might have less force than a foot, and the snow might wash away the pain almost immediately, but still -"...ow" Aiden muttered, quickly stepping backwards and rubbing his elbow against where Sam had hit him. "Healing means damage goes away, not that I don't get hurt," he grumbled. "But I guess it hurts less because it doesn't stick around."
Now that they had so clearly begun, Aiden kept moving, still not as practiced at maintaining his snow generation as he could be but at least conscious of what indirect control he had. "Just please don't cut anything off or anything."
...Less because of how it would leave him unconscious for quite a while and more because the regenerated tissue would be kind of permanently white.

"Try a whole lot less useful," Aiden called, but Sam was already sliding away. He sighed a little. Yeah, if mutant powers were put on a scale, he'd definitely be down near the bottom. Not pointless, but a bit of durability wasn't really that applicable to a lot of this stuff. Not when people could do that.
Ice flying everywhere at least made him not hot. He might as well enjoy that, and take Sam's prep time as an opportunity to stretch. Once he was physically-warmed-up-but-not-temperaturely-warmed-up, he had the Danger Room generate copies of the batons he'd been missing since Alaska. Even if he probably couldn't hit Sam if he tried, regardless of how much he'd be trying (aka not very much, because hitting people) he'd still much rather not be unarmed.
Even if it was like bringing a knife to a nuke fight. Not the same class at all.
"If it's not making me overheat, it's more that I don't notice at all than just a matter of not being bothered." Swinging the batons loosely, he tried to remind his muscles of their old training. This was not going to go well. He was way too rusty, plus what if whatever happened in Alaska happened again? He wasn't going to think about that, he was just going to exhaust himself and give himself a nice, long, unconscious break.
Which required getting fully into snowmode, ideally sooner rather than later so that it could collect everything. He moved a bit closer to Sam, and the drifting flakes started casually drifting over to him like it was totally normal for snowflakes to do that. Bit by bit, they clung to his skin, his clothes, his hair, and stained everything snow-white.
When the last bit of colour had vanished, Aiden rolled his shoulders one last time. "This is enough to keep me going, although I heal faster if there's more around." That just made it sound like he wanted Sam to hit him. Which... was convolutedly true, but not masochistically. He just wanted to be out of it for a while. Was that so bad?

Regret.
That was the sensation of the moment. Also, apprehension and a very large dose of what in the world had he just agreed to no he knew what but WHY
But he had, and he had had a reason. He might as well see it through. Or more through. Sam was a very significant member of the X-Men even if he had issues. Aiden ought to be able to trust him to stop if he asked.
"It's your paperwork," Aiden muttered rather than actually protesting as he left his chair. "You do it." And, really, he had had enough of moping and floating around aimlessly, accomplishing nothing. Running was a little bit better but, really, it didn't do much. It didn't get him anywhere. And also it didn't have the opportunity to knock himself out with his powers because he didn't stay in the same area long enough to develop the snow anywhere near far enough.

Recreate the conditions. That was... what he thought and what he'd irrationally wanted to avoid. How else would he go about it, really? Only problem was...
"I really don't remember much in the way of useful details from right before. I guess maybe something happened really suddenly, but I couldn't say what." Just - gone.
First things first, though. Stopping being air. He'd almost managed to forget. Somehow. Air in, air out, air into air but he wasn't going to think about that right now. That was better. So. Make sure he thought he was standing, she said. How did he make sure he thought he was standing? He felt like he was standing, kind of.
Know what? Even if he was upside down, he was pretty sure he was close to the ground and this was also the Danger Room. They wouldn't even need to get Doc Prof if he somehow managed to hurt himself. Maya could just yell at the computer to make it snow and he'd be fine.
Aaaaand hands released.
He was not as upright as he'd thought, but the chair was soft enough for the side of his head.

There was something to be said for Xs and priority-ish access to the Danger Room, especially on warm days. Like today. What Aiden had to say for it, today, was thanks.
Unfortunately, even his time slot came to an end, and the room quietly put away all of its snow and cold while Aiden woke up. He still hadn't recreated the Alaska incident, intentionally or accidentally, and so it was getting easier to push himself properly. He needed to get back in the condition he'd achieved, and the skill, and then keep improving on that.
He was barely into the hallway, still-frozen towel slung across the back of his neck, when his comm went off.
All?
And Cafas sounded tired. Aiden immediately turned around, no longer heading back to his room to shower. He was close enough to the War Room now. There was no point to detouring or delaying.
Juliette was already there; he nodded to her as well as Cafas as he slid into a chair and adjusted the starting-to-soften block of ice cube towel across his neck.
"Wh-"
Aiden started to speak, but shut his mouth mid-syllable when Juliette asked first. Same question, so no point in asking it twice. It'd get answered (or not) either way.

"My power makes me immune to cold," Aiden explained. He was a little bit hesitant, what with talking about something he was used to keeping private (in addition to being used to keeping everything private) to a nearly complete stranger. "But in exchange, even room temperature is a little much." Firebirds in the same room were infinitely too much.
It was really weird, talking like this. And being near someone who was so casually curious, like there could be no negative repercussions to anything. As if the world was bright and shiny and harmless but not boring.
"I try not to test it," Aiden threw in quickly, but Bailey had run with the idea. That wasn't how it worked! Probably. He'd rather not find out if he could regenerate his head because that would require getting his head cut off. No no no he'd deal with that if it ever came up, and not before, or of his own doing. Nope.
"I've survived a fatal car crash, and I'd rather that stay the record," he continued, voice not quite steady but not exactly faltering. Aiden pushed on past the comment, trying not to leave space for Bailey to latchA onto it as well. "And I don't heal other people, or control it at all really. It's automatic. It snows, I turn white, snow fixes me. And it's not like it's without drawbacks or side effects. It's really far from a perfect ability."
