The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

One moment, the yelling stayed at the front entrance. The next, a biker came came crashing through the party, roughly shoving patrons and leaving a wake of chaos behind them. Evelyn, who came specifically to keep an eye on the antique property, called out in surprise as a broken side table went through a nearby wall. Grabbing the arm of the nearest biker, she yelled at him to stop.
Probably not the smartest idea.
He swung, she ducked, and elbowed him hard in the side. After training her reflexes were getting faster, but evidently her logic was somewhat flawed. The angry biker grunted with pain, and snatched out, catching her wrist in a painful squeeze. A groin shot bent him over, a punch sent him sideways.
Still had her wrist. Shiii---she scrambled for freedom as the biker went down.

>>"Funny, you know, I thought you did't like being protected. Well, apparently it's just me you don't want around when you are in trouble."
STAB!!!
You know that hell hath no fury quote...
"You know, you're being ridiculously childish about this whole thing." She stood and whirled around, face livid as the comment sunk in. "Well I'm sorry someone else got there first and I was too busy fighting a freakin' samurai to ask you to come help me. And I'm sorry that some guy saved my neck before we started dating. You brought home a kid the other day. Let's talk about what happened before we started dating, shall we, and maybe start there! I didn't ask anyone to help me. But I was fighting two stories of artwork yesterday, by myself. I had to watch my favorite art pieces get destroyed and you're whinning because someone stepped in to do something, and you don't like that someone. Well, grow up. You're not the one who gets to relive getting smashed in the head with a medievel shield." She pushed her way past him and out the door.

Evelyn didn't know how this conversation fell apart. Probably somewhere between the request for her to stay away from Forte and her refusal to give him the boot. But that meant changing how she treated not just him, but everyone. Even as a trainee, she stood on mostly neutral ground. But then there was the jealousy, and the frustration. Gawain had a protective edge and that was showing a bit too. Maybe it would have been better to listen... But it was early, her head hurt, and this wasn't helping with it.
>>"He's not coming to the Mansion, though. That's my call as an X-man, and my responsibility to the students."
"Fine. Next time he can dump me off at the hospital." She sat in the chair, pulled her legs up onto it and put her chin on her knees.

>>"It's not what he does, it's the way he thinks that's bothering me."
....Mind-reading. That was a new trick.
>>"Do you think a guy who thinks he can win you over by humiliating both of us makes such a great friend on the long run?..."
"No, I don't, and that's why I'm not going out to coffee with him. He's not a friend I'm going to hang out with on a day to day basis. But I think someone who's taught me to discern what echoes to listen to, and someone whose helped keep the museum from being destroyed twice can still be my friend, regardless of where he lives. Yeah, he's a jerk, and his behavior isn't great. I'm not letting him manipulate me and I'm certainly not going to spend time over there, and you know, I rarely run into him when the proverbial sky isn't falling. But I'd rather him be someone who'd watch my back than stab it." Verbal foot was put down. Actual feet were still cold and wishing they had socks....

Evelyn looked back at him and processed what he was saying. As frustrated as she was she knew he was being genuine and that made it hard to stay irritated. She crossed her arms and leaned back against the desk, toeing the carpet with one of her feet. "Gawain, I have a lot of friends you're probably not going to approve of. I just see people differently though. It's not just Forte. I mean, I know people are dangerous and I know it probably makes no sense, but I don't see people as good or bad sometimes. Just because someone does something wrong doesn't mean I ignore them forever." She looked up at him, then back down. She wasn't sure this conversation was going well at all.
Maybe she was the one who was wrong though. Maybe she wasn't supposed to look at things this way. It was hard with the echoes though. There were individual justices, and individual moments of right and wrong, but people to her weren't divided the same way.

Body language shifted, Gawain pulled away. It sort of stung a little bit, something Evelyn wasn't used to. She wasn't good at this sort of thing. But the requests was just hard to swallow. She didn't like any of this, and she certainly didn't like someone trying to convince her who she could or couldn't be friends with. He was asking, not ordering, although it almost was more irritating that way. Her grip tightened on her mug and she exhaled through her nose, tension from that morning drifting back to her shoulders.
"I'm not dumb Gawain. I can see what he's doing. And you know, I'm not sure it's just him you don't trust." She stood and moved over to the dresser. Pity was gone now, and she set the mug down. Chocolate didn't sound so good either.
Boys were confusing. Heck, dating just by itself was, but trying to figure out how best to handle this drama was like dancing through a mine field. She wasn't quite sure if there was more lurking reading to go off at the wrong moment. Considering Forte's behavior, it probably wasn't going to end here though. But the fact he was intentionally trying to piss off Gawain sent warning signs. At least, this was Gawain's side of it. She wasn't sure what Forte's side would be. 'They confronted me and I asked a few questions?' Possibly. She pushed it aside for the moment though and set her head on Gawain's shoulder.
"Well don't let him bait you. I'm glad you care, but last thing I need is you two brawling it out one day."

[Annoyed. Confused. Irritated.] The echoes continued to list emotions as Evelyn watched. Jealousy. She was definitely seeing traces of that too. The amusement from seeing him that way was jolted with embarrassment as he remarked on something she hoped would never ever get brought up again.
"That, he, was totally not cool...." She grumbled under her breathe. Ok, so maybe Gawain had good cause to get upset with the guy. But it was a difficult line to draw when the same person that ticked her off also helped a lot. "It's not like I trained with him a lot. He helped a bit when I was working on self-defense, but I've been training with you guys now. I just...I get you don't like me hanging around him." It was hard when she wasn't the jealous one right now. She wondered if this is how Mirror felt everytime she got jealous... They were getting right back to the elephant in the room. She let her mug drop and moved over to sit next to Gawain.
If he stayed sitting. If he got much more irritated he might get back up... " K--Forte can be a jerk, and yeah I'm not happy he was acting that way but he's still not a terrible person to have on your side in a pinch. You don't have to trust him. But don't feel threatened by him. I'm dating you, and I like you."

.....a time out mirror....
What the heck----
"You left him in a Mirror?" She wasn't sure what to think about that. The rest of the information was even harder to digest. "I guess I could see him trying to pick a fight but--"
>>"'does Evelyn like you are a chick' and 'how does she like it' and..."
Well, that was just getting a little personal. She rolled her eyes slightly and felt herself chuckle in response. "So you put him in a mirror... Why does it matter what he says anyway? Is he the one dating you?" She sipped her drink and raised and eyebrow over the rim of her cup. That was certainly a mental image. She was surprised the two came out from the interaction without someone getting a bloody nose...

The echoes clued in to the noise outside before Evelyn could really register what it was. The rumble of motorcycles, then the eventual yelling of the biker gang, and then the shuffling footsteps coming to the entrance. Curiosity started to draw her that direction, when a hand caught her elbow and she found herself face to face with a familiar looking costumer.
"Do you know who those guys are?"
Why did she look familiar? Probably someone from the mansion. The echoes were too distracted to track down the information. "I don't." She remarked instead, answering the question. That fact alone was disconcerting. "They must be from out of town." She glanced back at the kids and where Locke had been standing. At least there was an x-man here, and his powers were more useful than writing mystery novels.

>>"It didn't go so well..."
Evelyn's eyebrows knitted together, and she studied Gawain more closely. Didn't go so well sounded much like how she would have described her adventure to go bring Sylar lasagna, or get her clothes from her house. Although while in her cases it usually meant she got herself into danger, this sounded more a compliment turned into a shouting match.
"Didn't go so well how?" She kept her expression neutral. He didn't look like he got in a fight, although the image of Maya taking on Forte was amusing to say the least. She wasn't sure Forte would ever be a fair fight though unless powers were involved...

It was there. That little emotion she couldn't quite pinpoint. As much as she could see emotions and read clues, she wasn't a mind reader and knowing 'something' was being thought about didn't tell her what. She turned her mug in her hands, and listened as Gawain spoke though. So far, not as bad as she expected. Elephant in the room was looking a bit more like a mouse at this point.
"He may be trouble, but he's saved my ass a few times regardless. And I'm well aware of how dangerous people at the sanctuary can be." She'd been kidnapped by one of them, after all. The memory would always have a sour taste in her mouth. "People have their good and bad sides. I think you have to be aware of both." Even though she was with the x-men now, there was some neutrality to her viewpoint. She wasn't going to condemn someone because of where they lived, even if they could be a pain in the butt sometimes...

One point for the echoes. Two points considering the ginger handling of the mug. As Gawain came inside, she could see the gears turning in his thoughts, and it felt like forever until he finally spoke.
>>"Um... we need to talk about Forte."
Forte....[Kyle.] Noted. As Gawain continued she frowned slightly, not liking the tone of 'talk'. There was a lot of emotion in Gawain's features. Jealousy didn't seem surprising, but there was something else she couldn't quite place. Somewhere between pleased and embarrassed---headache wasn't making it easy to understand.
"I didn't ask him to show up. Museum just went to Hell and I wasn't going to turn down help." She said, taking a sip of the hot chocolate. It was hot. A bit too hot. But the burn in her throat wasn't unbearably painful.

>>"Playbacks?"
Evelyn gave a nod and gratefully accepted the mug of hot chocolate. Rather than taking a sip right away, she kept it close to her face and let the steam waft into her face. The scent of chocolate helped relax the tension in her shoulders.
[Burnt his tongue.] The echoes chimed, and Evelyn was further grateful she had waited.
>>"Um, are you on your way to breakfast?..."
She glanced down at her bare feet, and she was fairly certain her hair could use another brushing. For a normal person she was probably put together enough to go eat, but for her this was still slightly unkempt. "I guess. Not really feeling super hungry yet though." In fact, the playbacks had made her question how smart it would be to eat until the lingering 'hangover' faded. "Are you?" It was an invitation, if nothing else. If he wanted her to come with him she could, or they could awkwardly linger in the doorway.
[Desire to talk.]
"Or you can come in to talk..." Echoes were such tattle tales.
