The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Evelyn's initially confusion tripled as Maya started laughing, and slowly the echoes came back from their rambling about dry cleaning options for her dress, keying in on the attempted 'seduction'. Well, now they talked. She rubbed the back of her neck nervously.
"Oh... Sorry, the echoes only know what I know and I don't really have any experience with this...." ,she muttered sheepishly. The moment was evaporating quickly bit at least there was laughter not tears....

The flames got higher, and Evelyn could feel the heat as she called out to Sylar. On the other side of the tunnels she could hear him call back finally, promising he'd meet up with her. It would have to be enough, and it was human enough for comfort. She could hear the flames travel, licking the body of the car in a hungry way, and the smell of gasoline was too potent. She waited too long, there wasn't enough time to run... She took off anyway, echoes leading her blindly towards the exit.
She was turning a corner as the explosion went off and sent her into the wall. The heat rushed through the sewers, but at least the flames didn't reach this far. The flow of the sound, however, was deafening, and Evelyn whimpered in pain as the force sparked her playbacks. Memories rushed through her dizzy mind, and she slumped back against the wall, struggling to process what was happening. Reality crashed into the past, and she couldn't see the monster stumbling towards her. The air was suffocating, the flames crackling, sirens wailing at the surface. In her memories she could hear the growl though. That growl sounded too close...

The scent of gasoline was heavy in the air around Evelyn from her trapped position. As sparks and flames flickered from the hood, she stared up and tried to stay calm. Cars honked and screen where the street was broken, and people looked down then moved away in fear. Sylar looked just as monstrous as his opponent, and Evelyn? Evelyn looked less like an the x-trainee who was defending herself moments before, and more like the helpless girl who wandered down here the first time. Pain flowed like the blood from her arm, the bones sending stabs of pain through her as she tried to get the echoes to work. Sylar's roar filled the air and she looked up as he started tearing into the monsters face. The car went flying tossed aside, and the weight left Evelyn as she staggered away, holding onto the one sai she still had. Sylar was enraged as he continued his attack, and Evelyn did the only thing she could think of. She hobbled over to the car, and yanked the door open.
"Ladder out of here is down that tunnel, take a left, climb the ladder to the manhole, quick!" She yelled and the man and woman inside. The woman quickly crawled out, but the driver's seatbelt was stuck. With a few stabs of her weapon Evelyn managed to break the fabric and get him free. By then the rage filled roars were far too loud. "RUN" She yelled, and the man took off towards the exit. The movement jolted more debris, and the car continued to spark. If fire hit the gasline... Who knows what could happen.
She glanced back at Sylar with concern. "Sylar, Sylar leave! The car...the cars on fire, if it explodes down here..." She staggered into the wall of the tunnel, trying to focus. Something glittered in the water and she quickly retrieved her other sai. The ferocity of Sylar's attack was starting to overwhelm the intruder. Combined with the injuries from the car, and blood loss, it was clear his goals were escape, not attack at this point.
>>"I'm the only mirror you gotta listen to, and I'm telling you you look just fine."
Evelyn frowned slightly, but eventually accepted the compliment. The kiss helped. Then her brain clicked in warning onto the other comment.
"Wait, what do you mean it has to go? You make it sound like you're giving it a dress funeral! It's just sort of wrinkled..." Sort of might have been an understatement, but it still caused Evelyn to clutch the fabric to herself and scoot away suspiciously.

[Sylar: tail, trapped.] The echoes announced in their broken thought pattern. Evelyn's grip tightened on the sai as she watched Sylar try to free himself, and then the rock crashed into the ceiling and the rest of the rocks came raining down. Diving out of the path of debris, she coughed as dirt and water mixed in the air. Her lungs burned, as did her body, and she wouldn't be surprised if she made it out of here then died of some illness from the contaminated water. As the falling stilled, and the monster turned, Evelyn heard it's victory announcement, and readied her weapon. She could still hear Sylar moving, and that was the only thing that kept her from panicking.
The beast charged, she swung, and the sai buried itself hilt deep in the monsters neck. It's roar of rage took a pained gurgle, but any thought of victory vanished as a claw slammed her into the ground, and there was a very distinct crack as something in her shoulder snapped. The claws dug into her arm and back as she tried to crawl away, and someone was screaming. It took her a moment to realize it was her. Blood mingled with sewer water, the beast roared in victory.
Then there was frantic honking and a car came crashing into the sewers through the hole in the ceiling, colliding with the monster as flames sparked from the hood. Evelyn covered her head with her hands as metal crunched and someone yelled from inside the car. The sewer was too crowded suddenly, too much happening. Someone was still yelling, and this time she wasn't sure who it was.

Evelyn glanced down at her dress and grimaced slightly. It probably hadn't been the best idea to sleep in formal wear, and there were some awful wrinkles in the fabric. While she wasn't necessarily the fashion diva some of her peers were, she still liked to look good and usually took decent care of her clothing. This... this was like clothing neglect. The air felt cold on her back as Maya undid the zipper and she shivered slightly at the kiss. She chuckled slightly at Maya's question.
"No, no shoes. I at least took those off." She said turning and stealing another kiss. With her emotions settling Maya was becoming very distracting in another way. Her emotions were definitely having a roller coaster today. She glanced at the mirror and grimaced at her reflection. Her hair looked like a snowstorm in a tumbleweed patch... "Why didn't you tell me I looked that bad..." She blurted out in embarrassment. The dress was looking like a lesser crime.

Ever so slowly, Evelyn felt a smile crawl across her face. Her eyes still burned a little but another swipe of her hand across her face took away most of the remaining moisture, and the playbacks finally drifted back into her mind as the stress dissipated. She kissed Maya back on the cheek, and then shifted so she could at least take off the name tag she was still wearing. She was pretty sure she was going to have a bar shaped dent on her skin for hours from sleeping on it.
"Well, I still don't believe the perfect comment, but I'll settle for mildly tolerable." She tossed the badge across the room and it landed on the desk with a light clatter. "We need to have better mornings. I still haven't found a cure for emotional hangovers." She said in a rather awkward attempt to lighten up the situation. The air still felt heavy to her. The worst was over, but it wasn't perfect yet.

Somewhere between the kisses, Evelyn's distress started fading, and her brain started thinking again. She sniffled, and as the last kiss met her lips she felt the tears slow, and Maya's words sink in. She blinked slowly, and pulled herself closer to Maya, face still damp but vision less blurry. She leaned her head against Maya's shoulder and took deep breathes. There were still question marks lingering in her eyes though.
"You really mean that?" She said softly, hopefully. She didn't feel perfect. And she while she meant what she said, she was still nervous hearing Maya say the same thing. They weren't exactly great about talking about their relationship all the time, and she remembered the way they'd danced around even the term boyfriend/girlfriend back when they started dating.

Evelyn knew Sylar had a dangerous side, but watching as he let it out brought a new level of fear into her stomach, stronger than even the fear of being pinned by the new monster. There was something enraged and dangerous in his snarls and attacks, and it echoed in her memories with the voice that had chased her through the tunnels. Run... She couldn't run this time though. She had to fight. But she knew that scent of fear would be rising, painting a target on her in glowing neon light.
Evelyn could see the glimmers of blood as claws tore through the thick flesh, and then she was forced back into action as she fell, landing with a thud on her feet, making sure to keep a firm hold on her weapons. She lost a sai more than once in a fight, and this was not a time she could afford to make the same mistake. She flinched in empathy as Sylar was slammed into the wall, the echoes trying to track injuries, note weak points on both the monsters. She didn't want to have to fight Sylar, but once the monsters stopped brawling, there were no guarantees the victor would let her walk away.
Bricks started falling, raining into the water. Evelyn dodged them, fearfully watching as the cracks started to travel. Overhead, a car honked, and she heard the swerve of a vehicle on the road... This couldn't end well, but she didn't know how to stop the domino effect already moving forward.
The crab like creature swatted at Sylar as he ran forward, ducking his head down and using his shoulders and weight to slam into the smaller mutant. They crashed into another wall, and then the ceiling opened and more rocks started raining into the tunnels. Evelyn dodged most of them, but a few clipped her arms and head, creating dizzy flashes of memories in her vision. One of the monsters up ahead growled in pain, but she wasn't sure which. A claw snuffed out the lantern, but light was coming from the crack, dimly illuminating the tunnels.

>>"Please don't cry."
Easier said than done. Evelyn's lip trembled and she sniffled, swiping her eyes and looking at Maya, then back at the bed. She looked up at the ceiling and tried to will the tears to stop. Then she just tasted them in her throat. "I love you too. I just... I feel bad. I feel dumb for being jealous and making it worse and now I feel dumb for crying." She buried her face in her hands. The echoes could sense Maya's slight distress as her girlfriend tried to figure out how to stop the tears.
Evelyn would like to know how to stop the tears as well.
"It's not just you that needs to do better, really." She murmured into her hands.

The hug helped, awkward as it was. Evelyn let herself sit up slowly, and brushed a few tears from her eyes that were starting to cling to her eyelashes. Crying in the morning always sucked. It made you feel tired the rest of the day. Then again, Evelyn always felt tired...
A few more tears went down her face. She poked at the blankets listlessly. "It's fine. Just... Warn me next time." She still didn't know what she'd tell work. She wasn't sure how much trouble she was in for the whole incident. Passing out might have saved her some heat but she still made somewhat of a spectacle regardless. She glanced down at her hand. There was way too much awkward silence in this room, and it was feeling clammy and uncomfortable.
She felt like she should say something else, but it was taking all her effort not to grab the blankets and burrow herself back in bed. She picked at the bandages.

When picking a battle field, the sewers wouldn't exactly be Evelyn's top choice. With cars rumbling on the street above, even this late at night, the wrong blow, the wrong hit could take out a support, send who knows what crashing down on them. She heard quotes about throwing rocks in glass houses, but this was the firs time she really got an idea of what that could mean. While she was trying to focus on the battle, her mind was also sending her information about their environment. Crack in the structural integrity, loose rocks, falling debris. Mentally she was tracking the destruction that could kill them all.
"Don't die Sherlock."
"Don't die either!" She hissed back, grabbing the lantern off the ground and moving farther down the tunnels. Her mind traced the cracks, finding a better place to take a stand in a junction up ahead. There was the flash of claws, the faint glimmer of alien blood from only the deepest wound, but it was nothing to the creature. Evelyn had felt Sylar's claws, seen what they could do. The fact they weren't damaging the monster more...
"Crap..."
Crap was right...
The monster turned, and Evelyn readied her weapon. In launched her way, and she somersaulted forward, slamming the sai up at the last second as the monsters belly passed over her. Metal struck one of the tears Sylar had created in the outer skin, and finally blood started to move more freely from the wound. The creature, however, was not happy with the turn of events, and as Evelyn scrambled to her feet, it's paw lashed out and the echoes chimed in warning. There was no time to move, no way to dodge as it hit her in the stomach and slammed her back into the wall. One claw caught her across the cheek, slicing her face cleanly from lip to temple. The other claws barely missed stabbing her as she was pinned against the wall, the smash echoes through the tunnels as bones collided with rock.
Jaws snapped, and Evelyn deflected the bite with the bladed weapon, sending the maw into the tunnel wall. The vibrations echoes through the tunnels and more rocks shook loose. [Structural integrity of walls failing.]

Evelyn looked at Maya quietly as she spoke. At least she wasn't in a playback hangover. That would have made this conversation even harder... An emotional hangover though? Still dealing with that. She gave a sad smile and shrugged her shoulders, pulling her knees close and putting her chin on them.
"It's fine... I shouldn't have been so mad. I just felt really awkward and dumb and... I don't know. Half of me always thought if you were ever at one of the museums events with me I'd be introducing you as my boyfriend not pretending to be the waitress while you..." Breathing. Breathing was important. "I know she's a close friend, and she seems nice. But it's impossible to stand in a room reading what everyone's thinking about you and her together and pretend it doesn't get to me." She looked away. Sparks of jealousy flickered again. She tried to quench them but she felt like she was just adding fuel to a fire when she tried talking. She shut her eyes.

Evelyn was one of the few people in the world who hated sleep, and going days without rest was a normal practice for her. Whenever she slept, the wave of playbacks she went through made her feel even more exhausted, and she had long since given up the idea that she would ever really feel energized like a normal person. But last night, with all the stress and drama at the museum, she gave in and let the playbacks take over. At least there was a chance the playbacks would have good memories.
She was never very good with luck, though...
She woke up twice that night in terror, brain spinning with echoes of pain. Her last stretch of sleep through morning hadn't been so bad though, images of paintings and working at the museum drifting through her mind. Part of her wished she could have found a memory to help take away the irritation she felt towards Mirror. Maybe the date in the Butterfly garden, or maybe their game of poker. Something, anything. But when she woke, her dreams were fairly void of the mirror-walker. There was only echoes of the frustration and sadness from the night before to greet her. So she rolled over, pulled the covers over her head, and stared at the fabric in the darkness, trying to dampen the limited sunlight making it's way into the room.
Before long, there was a knock on the door, then eventually, a voice by her bed. Evelyn considered ignoring Maya, but finally forced herself to sit up, rubbing her eyes as the blankets flopped in her lap. She was still wearing her clothes from the day before. She didn't even bother taking off her name tag.
"Feeling fine." If that wasn't a bold faced lie... She looked like crap and she knew it. Sleep did that to her though. She didn't know why she bothered.
Blood was never a good thing when you faced a predatory creature, and while Evelyn had a terrible sense of smell compared to these monsters, the echoes were aware of the injury by the change in behavior. Blood lust could be a very real thing, and the force that struck her sai threatened to bruise her skin as she was knocked backwards. The lantern light gave her an outline, a shape to fight against, and the echoes tried their best to build on that, find a weak spot, and opening, something. But as the arms raised, ready to smash down on her, the only salvation came with the yell through the darkness. She blindly obeyed, even as the echoes spoke up.
[Sylar]
Evelyn wasn't sure whether to feel relieved or worried as the boy slammed into the larger monster, and moments later when flying backwards into stone. A slight growl answered Sylar's cough. And the creature glanced from one prey to another. While Sylar was the stronger threat, Evelyn had blood running down her leg, the scent mingling with the air of the tunnels, drawing attention to the weakness. She shifted sideways, holding the weapons in front of her. Gradually, the teacher started to turn it's head. She didn't have time to greet Sylar or be grateful for the help as she stabbed at one of it's arms. The tip barely broke the skin, like a pin prick. The monster snarled and snapped at her temporarily glancing away from Sylar.
