The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

"She is here to kill me. Well, no, she's not going to, but she was contracted to kill me. By Eve's parents."
Evelyn's brain buzzed with the information overload. She forced herself to breathe, shutting the echoes into a little corner where she could still hear the conversation. If this were a mission she couldn't loose her cool, and she shouldn't loose it now. She was not responsible for their ridiculous behavior. This wasn't her fault.
Okay, the assassin part may have been. Using credit cards to pay for those things apparently had drawbacks.
"My parents aren't great at letting things go," Evelyn sighed, realizing her input was probably useful. She knew these people best [unfortunately] after all. "And right now, the only feasible way I can think of to get them to back off is to, well, find some dirt worthy of their silence." Blackmail. Totally legitimate good guy behavior.
Thankfully, Gawain didn't touch her, and Evelyn was wishing she wore long sleeves. The contact would be reassuring, but she really hated how contagious her powers seemed to be when she was nervous. As Sam walked in, she tried to clear her thoughts. The echoes were already reading way too much into him. Something about drinking, something about surprise...Tune it out...
'There's...uh, a serious issue, and we didn't want to go into it without you knowing.'
Yeah, her parents were the serious issue. Her cheeks started to color slightly in something between frustration and humiliation. Gosh, how terrible was it they had to go all covert ops because her parents decided to kill her boyfriend?
Then the echoes started informing her on other serious issues her and Gawain could possibly call a meeting about and why she'd be embarrassed about it, and she wished Gawain would just spit it out before she became even more mortified.
Evelyn was rethinking the idea to involve Sam, and it took extra effort to keep walking down the hallway. Sure, there was the whole assassination threat, but these were her parents causing the problems, and it felt kind of like asking someone else to come and clean your bathroom or something. Why should someone else deal with this sort of mess? And why Sam? She was still ticked at him, but she was keeping her echoes to herself at least.
No damaging people's brains with playbacks. No damaging peoples brains with playbacks. No damaging anyone with freaky voices in your head.
"Are you sure we need to do this?" Evelyn sighed as she approached Mirror. She kept her hands to herself for now. She wasn't entirely sure her thoughts were in check, and her nerves made it feel like the echoes could invade whoever's head they wanted.

So I'm working. I'm working a LOT, so posting may screech to a halt in the meantime. Main priority right now is to keep up with mod stuff that needs doing, but my to-do list is outta control.
If you need me, best thing is to fish for me. I'm really really trying to do stuff, but I feel like there is some metaphor here about a sparrow and a pool and trying to swim.....
Evelyn considered the offer, and finally nodded, wandering over to the bed and taking a seat on it. Her normal resistance to sleep seemed to have melted with all the information jostling through her head. It was like too many thoughts, and not enough space for them to sort out. Willingly or not, her body was finally shutting down to give her time to sort it all.
When Maya left to go get Angua, Evelyn curled up on the covers. Before the mirrorwalker returned, she was fast asleep, echoes or not. Clearly, everything else would just have to be dealt with in the morning.
Sleep...A momentary flutter of panic hit as Evelyn debated what was worse, playbacks of dealing with her parents trying to kill her girlfriend. Boyfriend. And the assassin mom wandering around... Headache. There was a headache building now.
"Yeah, let's just deal with it in the morning. Maybe by then the echoes can think of something useful...And where's Angua?" Some guard dog...Then again, the foxsquirrel of hers wasn't much better. It just sort of blindly attacked, well, everyone.
Just trying to ruin someones life in theory was much easier than trying to actually execute it. Evelyn felt a little flustered by trying to come up with something so soon. Her brain rattled through ideas, the echoes sifting and sorting through anything that might help them. Stuck in her mental sort, the color drained from her eyes temporarily, absorbed in thought.
So this was what being a robot felt like... Shaking her head she rubbed her temple and frowned.
"It's a social status. It's less about headlines, more about burning bridges. Relationships with powerful people we can sever. Tensions we can build. The way to break them isn't screaming all over town how terrible they. It's making people honestly believe that. Small things. Maybe they covered up something for a friend, bailed someone out of debt... It sounds kind of terrible, but we may have to upset a few other people and put some of their friends in hot water to really make an impact." Maybe that was playing dirty. But it felt like the whole attempted murder thing made everything one big muck they just had to swim out of now.

The echoes continued their checklist. Click click click, sort sort file away. She paused, and held up a hand, coughing slightly. "Just uh, can we be careful to check what the laundry is before you know, just airing it? As much as I hate them I am sort of, related, and I don't know...what type of laundry...there could be. Metaphorically."
Smooth.
"I mean, there's the obvious me being a mutant part, and stuff. But I'd rather not you know ...turn into the dirty laundry." Smoother. "Metaphors hurt my head. I'd just rather not have any of my own personal drama get dragged into this if we can help it."

Evelyn's Checklist:
[ ] Stop parents from killing boyfriend/girlfriend [ ] Figure out how to stop them from trying again ever in the future [ ] Cozy Christmas
The echoes were scrambling around madly in her head trying to sort out how to make those three little checks appear though. There were subchecks and sidebars and little mini checklists... She rubbed her head, careful not to share the slew of information with Mirror's brain. Then they would both have a headache.
"Everyone has something... The whole rich and powerful dinner party charade was basically one big dance to hide dirty little secrets...I just...don't know which dirty secret could be useful right now." Cheating wives, shaky financials, less than legal exchanges and transactions. She tried to think of clues, hints, something. But her parents were always careful. While they used her sometimes to get information on their peers, they were well aware that could backfire if they didn't guard their own lives.
"Maybe we can take a trip to dads work....He's got an office that I was never allowed into as a kid. Seems like a good place to start."

Evelyn smiled, trying to look encouraging. At least, that was the goal. She never was good at the teaching thing... In fact, she was pretty sure she terrified the last mansion student she tried to like, console.... "That's why we're practicing. If you're already good at something then it wouldn't be as useful." So at least that part sounded reassuring.
Evelyn threw the sai a few more times, gradually honing in on the center of the target. Her muscles had a familiar burn from the throwing, but she was at least pleased by the sensation. Months back she was probably worse off than Serena at this. "Once you start catching on though, it's just keeping the muscle memory up."

Evelyn felt confused and tired all at once. Not Mirror was saying they were not Mirror but they weren't saying who they were. And that wasn't helpful. The little dagger of blood slowly dropped and dripped to the floor. Which was totally gross, but now she was tired, and she was very aware how sore her throat was from all the yelling. Wrapping the blanket around her, she sat on the ground, squinting at him. She needed to sort this out. She needed to sort it all out.
But first, she was pretty sure she needed a nap. Her whole body felt sluggish, and the last thing she wanted was to get dragged to doc prof naked. Even if she wasn't in her body naked. There was still nudity, and she didn't want to see unplanned nudity on anyone.
"Where's Maya?" She put her head against her knees, rubbing her head and trying to get a grip. Don't panic. Don't panic don't panic don't panic....The world was all tilty.
"Actually, tell my body where she is. I think that's Serena. And then find her...I think I'm.....just gonna nap."
Darkness, glorious darkness took over.
Still naked. They'd have to deal with that problem first...

Mirror seemed... wrong, and that was enough to get Evelyn's focus. She needed her echoes. She needed help piecing together all the broken bits of her brain. Or Serenas's brain. Oh crap she hoped she hadn't broken Serena's brain. But if someone was in her body she couldn't use the echoes unless...She needed to be human again. She needed to calm down just for a second.
Focus. Focus. She reached out, and managed to grab Serena by the arm, and a rush of echoes filled her head. Glorious familiar echoes chatted away, although they also quickly announced she was nude and someone else was likely in Maya's body.
Evelyn dove for the bedsheet and screeched, although this time it was directed at mirror/not mirror. "Get out of my girlfriend's body! And bring her back!"

Taking the escape and glad she could avoid talking herself into a corner for now, Evelyn signaled the danger room to start and the targets started moving. They could start with simple target practice, and depending on how comfortable Serena felt, move from there. Evelyn flipped one of the sai in her hands, and let the echoes slowly focus on analyzing the situation.
"I guess here we go." She remarked and tossed a sai. It gave a dull thud against the target, only slightly off from her mark. The echoes calculated to correct it.

Evelyn's body was calm. Or, Serena was calm. Slowly that information was settling in Evelyn's head, even with the sluggish manner it took to get there. Serena. Was. In Evelyn's. Body.
Bloodyhell.
"Turn it off!" She whimpered, flicking at the blood in an attempt to make it go away. Instead of turning off Serena/her powers, a spear of blood flew across the room and broke the nearest mirror. The figure standing next to it thankfully was out of harms way.
The figure. Mirror? Something about Maya's expression didn't look right though. Evelyn backed further against the wall, desperate to escape the nightmare.
And then, that blood form she heard about sort of...took over. The blood glowing spread and then Evelyn was a freaky blood version of Serena.
Back to screaming. More blood projectiles hit nearby objects. Evelyn managed to at least keep them from injuring anyone for the time being. She sat on the ground and tried to hold her legs close and shut everything out, but the form was even more disorienting, and it was draining her already exhausted body. Serena's exhausted body?

Need to calm down.
Evelyn tried to repeat the statement, but it wasn't clicking. There was glowing blood and her mouth hurt, and there was someone in her body yelling at her. WHY WAS HER BODY YELLING AT HER?! Trying to piece things together on her own felt painful, sluggish. The words flopped around in her mind and she felt like a computer running without enough RAM. Serena. Evelyn. Serena. Evelyn. Bodies. Powers.
No echoes, no playbacks. Blood.
She slithered backwards, trying to get away from the blood. It was like a magnet, following her. She pointed at Serena and squeaked out, "St-stay back." Her tongue was still bleeding. There seemed to be more blood than that though. Maybe she hit her knee or something in the scuffle, or an elbow or something. She tried to remember all the information she read on the blood mutant and her powers. Serena, blood, powers. Bodies.
She couldn't remember. She bit her tongue harder to not scream. She looked like a terrified animal trying to crawl through the wall to freedom.
At least the screaming had stopped now. The blood was floating like little needles around her, protecting her from the other Evelyn.
