The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

"No, I am not a trouble maker," Mariusz replied, feeling slightly pleased that he was already better liked than some of the people here at the school. He hadn't been living here for very long, so he considered he must have been making a good impression to be getting comments like that one made about him. "I have Bachelor's Degrees from Charles University in Prague in both Protestant Theology and Early Modern European History which covers the time period from the Renaissance to, roughly speaking, 1800. I'm also enrolled in the online M.A. Diplomacy program at Norwich University. I can teach courses in Christian Theology and European History as well as courses in Flying for mutants with flight capabilities and an Archery Club for anyone interested in that as an after school activity."
As he was finishing speaking he noticed that Jacob, having received his answer regarding the project that he was pursuing had left the office. "My room is the one in the middle hallway at the very end on the right as you are looking down the hallway," he said in answer to the question concerning which room was his. With nothing else to say at the moment he stood quietly in his spot and waited for Sam to pull the spare key and provide more information.
"Ah, but the point of the exercise is to see and witness how mutants of all walks of life live and how they are treated. As I mentioned, there is a decision I am thinking on making and the information and experiences would be most useful in helping me to make the decision one way or another," the Czech man said, being a little bit evasive in what he was saying. He did not exactly have a desire to advertise yet that he was considering going through all the steps that would be necessary to run for the Office of Mayor of New York City. Of course, Mariusz harbored no illusions about winning in such a race. But he assumed the novelty of an open mutant running for the office would generate media buzz and draw the issue of mutant rights and racism against them to the forefront of the political discussion, perhaps even nationally.
While he waited for Tses and Ty to answer him again he went ahead and finished off what was left of the sausage he had purchased for himself before taking a sip of his water. "It looks like the game will be resuming soon, and they did not sell out for this game against the Jets. I would imagine we could find three seats where we could all sit together," he said, gesturing towards the stairs that led down to the seats in the stands.
"Why did the police beat a mutant," Mariusz asked, waiting for the next drink to be served. It would be one thing if the mutant was injured because they were resisting arrest or threatening others with their powers. It would be quite another, however, if the mutant had been singled out for abuse simply for being different from what were considered to be normal people. Obviously, if this was a nature of hate crime, or something similar then something needed to be done. Of course, that action needed to happen within the spectrum of the laws of the land rather than through some form of righteous vigilantism.
"Would a traditional boilermaker made with your house whiskey be too impolite to ask for," Mariusz asked. He thought for a moment before continuing, deciding on what kind of beer he wanted for the beer half of the boilermaker. "Depth charge the whiskey in a glass of English Pale Ale," he said, deciding he would have the drink in, roughly, the same manner as it would be offered in the United Kingdom.
"I have been exploring New York City and familiarizing myself with my new surroundings. America is, after all, not quite the same as the Czech Republic. There are considerably more people in this area of the world than there are in the area of my homeland where I grew up," Mariusz replied as he entered the greenhouse. "I have also not had reason to enter the garage or the greenhouse yet during my short stay here at the Mansion," he continued, shrugging his feathered shoulders.
As he entered the greenhouse he looked around, his golden-eyed gaze taking everything in at a glance, at least on the surface. He wandered among the plants in the greenhouse, occasionally pausing to bend and look at this or that flower. He wandered quietly for a few moments, careful to keep his wings tightly furled to avoid accidentally knocking a flower pot to the ground. "Regan, do you think it would be possible for you to grow edelweiss," he asked, looking back in her direction from across the greenhouse.
"Books are always good, of course," Mariusz said, continuing his conversation with Kealey. "But, there is only so much that can be learned from books. To truly learn one must get out in the world and experience things as well. Meet people and talk to them. Learn their stories and their struggles and the best way to go about helping them and establishing a world where everyone can get along. Finding others to talk to would certainly be most helpful."
"I would hardly call accidentally running into someone or something dangerous," the Czech man said, turning his attention back to Chloe. "As long as no one is hurt and nothing is broken then there is no need to worry. Such minor things are easily remedied and, just as easily, forgotten and forgiven."
"No need to apologize," the Czech man said, waving a hand dismissively. "I have been down to Time's Square, for the New Year's Eve ceremony, it seemed the thing to do that night. I have to admit I am not that familiar with the Film Forum, but I do enjoy movies as much as the next person does." His wings flapped slowly in the snow flake filled air to keep him aloft.
"I have not experienced any bigotry yet because of the way I look here, and it was something that was rather rare back home as well. I would be curious to know what you mean by the way mutants in this city get treated though. I admit I have mostly stayed in the nicer and tourist-type areas of the city and have not seen all that much of it yet," the feathered man said with a shrug of his shoulders. "The only true exploring I have done so far was to visit the Shadow's Light bar, though I would very much like to see how mutants of all stripes and types live here in New York City," Mariusz said, an idea slowly forming in his head as to a way he might be able to help the city's mutant population in the future.
This will be open to anyone that wants to play. Advertising and the like will occur, and you can simply assume your chars' saw a flier or some such, I don't see much of a point in RPing the flier distribution... seems like that would be boring.
Unless people want to RP the flier distribution then, of course, we can.
OOC: Sorry for the shortness of this one. Not really sure where to go with it.
Mariusz exited the garage with the others. While they had been inside asking their questions and seeing the garage a chill wind from the north had picked up. It wasn't gusting especially hard, but it was enough to ruffle his feathers though he doubted it would be enough to bother Regan since it wasn't enough to bother him and he assumed her fur would be better at blocking out the cold than his feathers were, though he didn't honestly know if that was the case or not. Quietly, having reached a lull in his part of the conversation, Mariusz followed along in the direction of the greenhouse another of the places in the Mansion and its grounds that he had yet to visit.
"I was actually rather hoping to be able to get as complete a picture of how mutants live and are treated here," Mariusz said, taking a bite of his own kielbasa. It wasn't quite the same thing as what he had been used to growing up, but it still wasn't bad. Other than the sauerkraut. The sauerkraut was barely worthy of being called food. "I have read books, of course, and experienced some things by seeing the city and living at the Mansion. But, I would like to have a more complete picture and, I hope you will forgive me here, but I should like to see and know how the other half lives. I am still on the fence about a decision I was thinking about making."
"This is not quite as good as the true kielbasa from back home but, aside from the rather deplorable sauerkraut, it is really not too bad," Mariusz said, changing the topic a bit to get back to food as he took another bite of the kielbasa. "I suppose you must have been hungry after all," he said to Ty, noticing that the man had already completely devoured his food.
"Yes, I have been living in the Mansion for about a week now," the Czech man said in answer to Maya's question as the jungle setting dissolved around them leaving them both standing in a rather austere room. "I do not think I have ever seen technology like this before," he said, gesturing around at the the room that was now devoid of basically everything that wasn't either himself or the young woman before him. "Is this accomplished technologically or is it through some mutant who has the ability to project illusions?"
"I had heard rumors, here and elsewhere, that there was a team of mutants that operated from here with the purpose of using their powers for the betterment of mutant-human relations and society in general. Since I am living here I am rather loathe to be a freeloader and do nothing to help pull my weight and earn my keep. Besides that, I have some skills that I imagine would be most useful," the feathered man said with a shrug, turning his golden eyed gaze on Maya once more.
"I can only assume there are more tests and interviews to be conducted before being allowed to join such a team, however I am most interested in being a part if I would be accepted of course. I am also not so foolish as to imagine that there would not be some element of risk involved in working for such a team, and I am prepared to accept that risk."
I think the Mansion grounds make the most sense, in light of what Celeste has said. I also envision this as an open event that anyone, Order or otherwise, can attend.
The Order could even use it as an excuse to do some snooping, if they were so inclined.
1. I was planning on, mostly, soloing the citizenship test stuff. That is, of course, unless Shammikittikins also wanted to take part in that and have Regan become a citizen as well.
2. I was thinking that too, if the Mods were to decide that he got to win then there could be a lot of potential there. If the Order helps, whether or not Talon knows they're evil, and he wins there's potential for all sorts of fallout. Of course, as Mayor, he could also demand that the two officers that pummeled Gina be fired (if they haven't been already) and there are any number of other things he could do, like promote Jorge to police chief and all kinds of other things. It's actually a fair bit of IC power. Of course, anything significant affecting a player or a character or the board would still require Mod approval
3a. Oh, I quite concede it would be an uphill battle to win. Of course, with a visible mutant running I would tend to think the mutant population of NYC would be very motivated to turn out to vote. In some ways you can point to the 2008 election of Obama as a model since he was the first serious minority candidate to win a nomination and there was a massive increase in the amount of minority voters at the polls in 2008 which helped elect him. An argument could be made that, on a micro-scale in NYC, the same thing would happen with Talon to get him elected.
3b. Of course, I've also said all along that I'm perfectly fine with Talon losing the election. You still get all the char. devel. stuff and everything from running the campaign that way and you can still do all the scandal stuff from the Order helping (if they help at all) by simply having all that scandal stuff happen while the campaign is being run.
4. Char. Devel. is never a waste of time. It would still be a fun thing to do even if he were to lose the election.
Could anyone that was interested in this post their names and everything here so I can get an idea of how many people might want to take part? If we get enough people/chars. maybe we could do it like a tournament instead of one big game.
