The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Chaos had indeed erupted. Shade dragged the woman along who appeared either willingly to come with the shadow mutant as they made their escape or she was in shock. Not really caring which at this point, the night stalker pushed a male patron out of the way as his eyes were locked on the white door. The door was only two steps away, and the safety of darkness only three when the woman's handler yelled her name.
> "Evelyn!"
That must have been the woman's name, because she suddenly halted, refusing to follow Shade's lead anymore. She tugged at his grasp, almost slipping out of his rough grip. Twisting her arm, he placed it behind her back while wrapping his arm around her neck, pulling her back against him. Now, facing Jensen, the shadow mutant faced the man an evil, but playful, grin, before backing through the door, the darkness swallowing them both.
As the door swung shut, that familiar feeling of icy darkness surrounding Shade, helping to calm his mind as he reached for a potential 'landing' spot. There was an alley out back. In the morning sun, the shadows casted by the surrounding skyscrapers provided the needed darkness. The experienced teleport ripped a wormhole open for a moment as the odd couple traveled out of this dimension, through another one, and back into this one in a second.
Like every time Shade 'jumped' between dimensions, the affects of reality were thrown for a loop for a brief moment. Having done this thousands of times, the shadow 'jumper' was used to the effect. His partners usually had a rough first time. Now, standing in the alley, Shade, invisible, loosened his grip slightly to allow the blond some room to maneuver in case she needed to hurl due to the nausea.
"Come on." Shade said roughly, dragging his captive down the alleyway. What the shadow mutant really needed was a vehicle. He did not want to 'jump' all the way back with a passenger.
The winged mutant nodded in understanding over the money issue, but he still looked sick to his stomach. Then he asked for Shade's number. Assuming he was asking for how many the shadow mutant had killed, the logical next question for Shade was when. Tonight? Last month? Ever? After the first hundred, he had lost count. Luckily, the teenage mutant decided to take back his previous question. It was probably for the better. The kid would probably faint, or at least vomit again, if he knew the truth.
"Not really. Mostly, it turns to anger." Shade replied truthfully. At least, that was how the shadow mutant dealt with it. Of course, everyone dealt with it in their own ways. Some turned away from it, shunning it; others turned towards it, embracing the feeling over life and death that they now possessed. However, the truth of the matter was that it never went away. Once someone had witnessed death, there would always be a piece of their soul that was just a little darker because of it.
"Well, I would love to stay and chat, but I have to drop these off for my boss. Funt times, eh? Hit you next time I need some help?" Shade asked, trying to avoid the awkward silence. However, he already a good idea about what the answer to his question would be.
After breaking up the little office trust hug session, Shade settled back down into position as Kenzi moved a chair around in front of him and took a seat. As Greg prepared the tattooing supplies, the dark haired woman carefully picked up her creation, playing with it in her hand. Shade watched as her face soured before crushing the tiny bird in her hands, killing her marvelous creation. Her eyes switched back to their striking blue as the black fog of rolled off her palm and dispersing into nothingness as it hit the floor.
"I think that it is an amazing mutation." Shade replied, returning Kenzi's smirk. Suddenly, he felt Greg's gloved hands touch his skin. "Ready as ever, Greg."
A small tension formed in Shade's back as the needle, worked by Greg's skilled hands. began to imprint the ink in Shade's skin. Distracting himself from the funny pain that was arising from his bottom, the shadow mutant brought his eyes up to Kenzi's.
"With a mutation like that, you must have some intersting tattoos. Do you mind showing me? At least, the decent ones?" Shade asked with a chuckle. He did not want to push his boundaries too far with Greg. The artist seemed like a nice enough guy...for a human. Plus, he had an excellent skill if any immature ink mutants decided to get too touchy over their feelings.
Luckily, the parlor's owner was not an anti-mutant zealot, and lucky for him because if that he was Shade might have had to cut out the man's heart). In the chaos of the sudden pink bird appearing, Kenzi managed to flash Shade a dangerous smile with a wink. Although the shadow mutant was not the most promiscuous male in the world (that title belonged to Cold Steel), he was still a man, and he was not going to ruin a good thing. If the raven haired girl wanted to throw herself at him, Shade would be more than happy to accept.
The shirtless mutant's eyes followed the pink little bird as it fluttered down in front of him and tweeted sweetly. Although his first instinct was to crush the tiny bird, Shade made himself think just how useful the tattoo animator could possibly be. With an ability like that, she could easily sneak a weapon inside a restricted building. That could be something interesting. And if she ever was introduced to Allison, the two would be a deadly combination. Coughing into his hand lightly, Shade hoped to bring the attention back on the work at hand.
The Orderling would have to talk to Kenzi about the ink manipulator later, when a human was not so close.
Although Shade's gaze were locked on Evelyn's ever-shifting eyes, his attention was split between listening to her and watching her handler as he approached. The blond was definitely not happy when Shade grabbed her arm. Her gaze was piercing, trying to find something to save herself, while a narrow frown sat on his lips. Her facial expressions showed that she did not want to go, and yet, her body language spoke differently. The blond was not pulling against Shade's grasp, like a helpless victim. She was leaning towards him as if she wanted to go.
"Only if you want to be used." Shade whispered back, a large grin spread across his lips. "Let me show you."
However, the shadow mutant never heard her response as her handler leapt at that moment to try and grab her. Shade had anticipated the move but had lost track of how close Jensen had moved towards then. Pulling the blond haired away, the shadowman threw the lukewarm coffee in his left hand into the face of her bodyguard. Taking the window of opportunity provided by the distraction, Shade dragged the blond towards the white restroom door of the restaurant.
(OOC: I wasn't sure if you wanted me to spring Jensen into action or not. Let me know if that is okay, Evelyn.)
"-the hell!?" Shade exclaimed as he suddenly felt like the hands of someone of his back. His immediate thought was that someone was attacking him, and he tensed beneath the hands in response. However, he soon realized that Kenzi had somehow fallen on top of him? Looking back, Shade could see that Kenzi had indeed fallen on him. Luckily, the tattoo artist had not started stabbing him with the needle yet, althought he was now swearing profusely.
As the shadow mutant watched, Kenzi's eyes disppeared into pupil's white pits, while a thick black smoke billowed from her hands. There was only one explanation. She was a mutant. Pulling away, she tried to hide her eyes as the black smokes changed colors and formed into a real life buzzed pink hummingbird. The bird zipped around the parlor before nestling in the raven hair on Kenzi's head.
> "Heh… Surprise?"
Shade's face was spread wide in a grin before the young woman even spoke, his eyes showing more respect for Kenzi besides just this previous thoughts of her just being a pretty face.
"Well, that is certainly an interesting mutation. I will have to show you mine sometime." He replied. However, the shadow mutant did not know how the parlor's owner would take to the sudden presence of two mutants in his work space. From Kenzi's words, Shade could gather that she had not told his boss of her abilities.
Both of the others in the tattoo parlor appeared shocked by the design. The pink hummingbird had that Wow! factor, both in how the artwork was so brilliant and in the surprise of it being on such a person as the shadow mutant. Skulls and crossbones fit Shade much better than a fluttering little bird.
"I told you it was something that you had to see to believe. But that is nice to hear." Shade said, replying to the their shocked comments. Relaxing into the cushioned bench, the shadow mutant waited patiently as the tattoo artist made the first stretch on Shade's skin with his marker. When he had finished, the older man handed the shadowman a mirror. Trying to use the double reflections, Shade pulled the mirror up and saw Kenzi's face staring back at him. Giving her a quick grin, the Orderling shifted the mirror slightly so he could see the temporary markings on his back.
"Yes, that works great. I should have come to you first." Shade replied, chuckling slightly at the light joke.
"Thank you. I never said that she was not talented. She is very talented, just unprofessional. And about as mature as a teenager." Shade replied to the older man's compliments. The shadow mutant also glanced over at the young woman as she squirmed in her chair. She was biting her lower lip and tracing his tattoo with her eyes.
"Do you like it?" Shade asked Kenzi who almost appeared in a trance. However, he quickly turned back to the artist. "Well that is good to hear."
Now that the time had arrived, Shade left a little anxiety in his stomach, but these people probably dealt with things like this all the time. Heck, this probably was not the worse tattoo, or the most revealing spot, that they had ever done. Pulling off his belt, the shadow mutant placed it with his cap with his wallet and phone before giving Kenzi a wink, making sure to hide the gesture from the her boss. Taking his position on the bench, Shade worked his pants down, just far enough to reveal the mistake. It was obvious. Next to the continued black lines of his tribal was the picture-like pink hummingbird.
The bird was so perfect that it almost looked like it would fly right off of Shade's behind. The wings were brilliant emerald green. The throat blazed like a ruby jewel. The head and beak were gold-plated while the eyes were jet black, shining like onyx stones. However, feathers covered the body were the most obvious. Outlined in sapphire, the feathers were the color of the most brightest shade of pink available. It was a gorgeous tattoo, and it would have been a great picture to have forever etched into the skin...if that person were a girl. Definitely not in Shade's taste.
"Ta-dah!" Shade exclaimed, sarcastically to the tattoo artist. " So you think you can help me out?"
As the blond turned, Shade's right arm shot out like a snake, wrapping itself around Evelyn's wrist in a vice-tight grip. He was not able to let this woman leave so easily. If she struggled, he would only squeeze harder. No, Shade could not let a prize like this one escape. She would do wonders for the Order and could help Shade in many ways. She needed to come to the Sanctuary.
"Do not play coy with me. I know you are a mutant. Your eyes betray you as much as mine do." Shade said in a harsh, but quiet, tone. "Come with me. Leave these petty humans and their rules. I will take you somewhere where you are accepted for who you really are; not your fake personality."
Shade's eyes were locked on Evelyn, but he knew her bodyguard was sure to respond to his sudden grabbing. His peripheral vision was on the lookout for the man, and with his plan devised, the shadow mutant was already a step ahead. His only problem was escaping. He would have to find a shadow, and a dark one, fast. The bathroom! That could work. That could most definitely work.
"Don't worry, Greg. I live with a host of dangerous women. I think I can survive just one." Shade replied kindly, his eyes trailing over the tattoo artist's shoulder, watching the dark haired woman as she worked. When Greg motioned, the Orderling followed him over to the work bench. As requested, Shade began to undress so he took show Greg his design. Taking off his hat, he placed his sunglasses inside before handing them to Kenzi.
"Would you mind holding these for me?" Shade asked politely, giving a friendly grin. He could almost feel Greg's mindful eyes watching him. The shadow mutant knew what he was doing...mostly. Removing his hoodie and T-shirt at the same time, the massive design across his chest and back was revealed to the others in the room. After spreading out the hoodie on the work bench to keep the leather from sticking to his skin while he worked, Shade turned slightly back and forth to offer the artist a full view of his work.
Although the tattoo was only a simple tribal, it was obvious that it was done by a master human tattoo artist (or a mutant who was very good with ink). The lines were perfectly drawn, even as they curved and crossed over difficult areas. They did not appear distorted by the multitude of scars that criss crossed Shade's back or faded from wear and exposure. To a skilled tattoo artist, it might even appear too good like there was a supernatural effect to it.
"So, what do you think? You think you can duplicate it. I couldn't really find anything in the binder that I liked."
>"Your mutation is darker? Oh, so you're one of those things that goes bump in the night, are you?"
"You could say that." Shade replied, his grin spreading into an insane man's smile. In the shadowman's mind, Evelyn had almost given him a compliment. And yet, she was tense. She was trying to hide it, but cracks were showing in her defense. Shade was a predator, and the woman was his prey. She could counter his words, but he could counter with actions. And her defender? Well presently, he was too far away to do anything until after it was too late. However, Shade was not above being civilized. He could at least give the woman a choice so he relaxed his assault slightly.
"What if I could take you to a place where you did not have worry about what people thought of you: a place where you could express your gift openly? And you would not have to worry about your loved ones. You would have plenty of resources to use to protect them. No one would bother you. You would be safe."
(OOC: Permission granted by Shammock for her miss.)
The entire scene seemed to freeze for a second as everyone, including Shade, tried to comprehend what had just happened. The fur covered woman (he was sure it was a woman now) gently helped Kaitlyn to the ground who was obviously in a state of shock, her green eyes staring blankly at Shade. The shadow mutant took an unconscious step backwards as his brain tried to clear the fog.
Pop!
His ears rang as the pressure from the sound wave rolled over him, snapping him back into focus. That just happened to be a very large cat with razor-sharp claws and teeth. Shade took an unconscious step backwards, but there was no way he could outrun this cat. The massive felive sprinted towards Shade in a blind fury before to launching at him. Her claws and teeth were outstretched, ready to rip the shadowman into ribbons. As she leapt, Shade ran forward and slid along the snow. The massive cat sailed over him, but a dangling claw managed to catch Shade in the shoulder. The nails were so sharp and clean. The shadow mutant just felt a slight tuck, not even realized he was sliced open. Not that he had much time to think about it. Even as he popped up from the ground, the silver manipulator was already on him.
The silver man got the first attack, slicing at Shade as he threw up his cloak to distract the X-men. Drawing his arm back, the shadow mutant gasped in pain as he realized the white tiger had cut him. So Shade switch it a kick to the legs as he moved off to his right, trying to separate himself from the tangle. The tiger couldn't be far away.
At a major disadvantage in two ways, the shadow mutant had to try to even the odds. Finding darkness was precendence. Only twenty-five yards away, the nearest spotlight could be shattered to offer Shade that protection. He just had to reach the post, while avoiding an enraged tiger and vengeful silvermancer. Not too hard, right?
Pulling away from the silver mutant, the shadow mutant heard his cloak rip even more as the silve blade ripped through it, tearing a large cut into it. Turning towards the lamp post, Shade scrambled towards his beacon of safety. He just didn't know if he had enough time to reach it.
Shade chuckled as the young receptionist disappeared into the back. This woman seemed to be asking for trouble. She was flirting with a murderer and did not appear to be reading the signs that danger could be approaching. Or perhaps worse, the woman did notice and was drawn to the darkness. Either way, Shade would be happy to lead her down the path.
Returning to the binder, the shadow mutant flipped through a couple of pages, trying to find a suitable pairing to his already massive piece of art that draped down his right side. However, everything he saw was either too girlie, didn't match the style, or was just plain weird. He swore he saw some symbols that looked like demon worship, possibly even mutant worship. Unable to find anything complementary, Shade tossed the binder onto the coffee table and heaved a sigh as the store's owner exited from the back, touting the receptionist behind him. He rose when the master artist approaching and accepted the friendly gesture, giving the man a firm, rough handshake.
"Shade. And no, that is fine. She is more than welcome to watch if she wants." The shadow mutant replied, mimicking Kenzi's smile with a half-crooked one of his own. "However, it is not in the most modest place, if that would be any problem."
"Nice to meet you, Kenzi." Shade replied, nodding his head and giving her a show of his pearly white teeth as she turned to head towards the back room. The shadow man's eyes couldn't help but enjoy the view as his gaze trailed off her shoulder and down her back. His eyes caught on the large, detailed wings that peeked out from between the fishnet before they continued down her back. Her most notable feature was blocked by a black and pink tutu, but her legs were shown off in skin tight leggings that had pink bows laced through the back.
Smiling to himself, Shade shook his head as he opened the large binder and placed it on the table, flipping through it absentmindly. Most of the designs were simply, small pieces. However, there were some larger designs that caught Shade's eyes that would probably fit perfectly over the hummingbird. His only worry was how the colors were going to mix together. That bright pink would take a lot of black to cover up.
Although Shade was fuming with anger at the memory of his last tattoo expereince, he couldn't help but smile back at the woman's words and contagious grin. Taking the binder from the receptist, the shadow muttered a soft "Thanks" before chuckling when the woman asked about the color.
"You would not believe me unless you saw it. And don't worry about the drink. I'm fine." Shade replied, turning towards the mentioned couch to take a seat. However, he stopped before taking a step. Spinning back to the receptist, the Orderling locked eyes with the raven haired woman.
"I'm Shade by the way. Although I guess Sugar can work too. What is your name?" Shade asked with a smirk.
