The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Or early for normal folks. However, the blood splattered, grey sweatshirt wearing mutant was by no means normal. In fact, he would probably take that as an insult to being called a human, a pathetic species that only ruled through its shear number from uncontrolled growth. However, there was a new species on top of the food chain: Homo superior. And over time, they would rise up against the weak rulers of this world and take what was rightful theirs.
However, Shade would need his morning coffee first before he could accomplish such grant schemes, when it was more of his late night. For, the death-dealing, shadow jumping, night stalker had been up all night on a very important mission: torturing a poor little redhead by refusing her to get any sleep. A most grand scheme that was revenge for her addition to the tattoo Shade had asked her so nicely for. Was it too much to ask a fellow mutant for a little courtesy?
Anyways, now sleep deprived himself, Shade was in need of a slight pick-me-up before returning to his duties for the Order, his real duties. So he decided to visit a nearby coffee shop for his caffeine kick. Certainly, the Orderling could have simply gotten a cup of joe from the cafeteria in the Sanctuary. However, he was in the mood for something special, something with a little more flavor, and something a tad bit more expensive.
Therefore, he had come down to this little coffee shop, a spot that he had visit once before, back when being a mutant meant a trip in the camps. Back then, he had met a special mutant capable of shifting her appearance (Sonya, the name appeared in his head) to discuss plans on attacking a local mutant registration post. It had been a crazy time back then.
Entering the shop and stepping out of the rain, Shade slammed right into a businessman walking out on his cellphone. The shadow mutant's first instinct was to stab the man in his kidney, but Shade restrained himself. Shaking off the loose droplets of water, Shade pulled his hood down, revealing his strikingly pale face, hair, and eyes. His piercing gaze involuntarily shot to the exact spot where he had met Sonya so many years ago. Seated there was a woman with almost as white hair as Shade's. Their eyes collided for an instant before the shadow mutant ripped his gaze away and proceeded to the line of people, waiting for their coffee. When it was Shade's turn, he scanned the large board of choices above the woman's head before gesturing towards the person who went before him.
"I'll just have whatever they are having." Shade replied simply. He didn't really understand this coffee shop lingo.
The fear of the unknown is man's greatest fear. It seeps into their very being and eats at their soul. The unknown causes one to relive the worst possible imaginable fear over and over until an even greater fear replaces that one. Even the fear of death is only fear of the unknown. If mankind knew for certain what was awaiting them after death's cold fingers snatch their last breath from their lungs, no one would fear death. And it was this fear of the unknown that Shade thrived on.
Ever since that incident in the recreation room of the Sanctuary, the shadow mutant had been watching that crafty, little tattoo artist. He might not have followed her constantly, but he sure made sure she felt like it. Sometimes, he would stalk her silently, whispering evil thoughts in the darkness; sometimes, he would reveal himself entirely, only to keep his eyes hidden beneath his veal of darkness, just so she think that he was always watching her. Darkness was his ally and her enemy. Night was torturous. It was almost comical to see her squirm as she approached a shadow or a dark room, as if Shade would spring from the depths and snatch her up, before swallowing her in darkness.
Her only sanctuary was Aura. Shade made sure to stay well away from the pink kinetic wielding mutant. Her offensive power could be deadly to Shade even in darkness. So as long as the couple remained in close proximity, the young tattoo artist was safe. However, Aura was not here tonight, was she? The shadow mutant had seen her leaving the Sanctuary, just an hour or so before, leaving on some unspoken mission for the Order. Taking this opportunity to torture Allison some more, Shade had disappeared into the darkness of the Sanctuary.
Every time she seemed about to fall asleep, the shadow mutant would cause a little noise, like fluttering the curtains, knocking against the wall, ruffling her sheets, whispering hatred into her ear, or outright chuckling softly. However, as much fun as the shadow mutant was having at the stroke of 2 AM came a sound that easily drowned out Shade's torture. It was music, loud music. And after Shade's torment, Allison did not look like in the mood for compromise. So as the redhead threw off the covers, Shade quickly 'jumped' out of her room before she could reach a light. Sneaking around the corner, the shadow stalker watched from his vantage point, waiting for the chance to return to his torment of Allison.
This dark gemstone of a woman was certainly devious, Shade had come to that much of a conclusion about the black haired beauty at least. Her feigning innonence was very good. If he hadn't personally been poisoned by her and witnessed her little perform eariler, Shade would almost had believed it. However, the shadow Orderling was becoming increasingly knowledge to her ways.
The way she carried herself was almost like Shade's own leader, Syn; both of them having that incredible ability to get anything they wanted. However, this woman was potentially much dangerous that the gothic mutant zealot. For while Syn worked for mutant supremence, the woman across from Shade only worked for herself. Shade's smirk into a full toothy grin as Sapphire asked if she could do to help.
"Actually, there is." Shade replied as his eyes ventured over Sapphire's body. With his sixth sense active, the disappearing shadow mutant tried to trace the sense of darkness that seemed to envelop the woman like black silk. Bringing his eyes back up to Sapphire's striking blue ones, Shade continued.
"You see, we have something in common decides our mutual acquaitance, Mr. McCarthy." Drawing a darkness blade in his right hand, the shadow mutant showed the dagger to the other darkness manipulator before driving it into the table in front of him. As the light destroyed its structure, the knife slowly dissolved into smoke.
"You were not the only one creeping around in the dark that night."
Shade groaned softly as he gingerly touched his right shoulder. The bullet wound hit like hell, as if someone had stuck a red hot fire poker right through his shoulder. He could feel the damp, thick feeling of blood of his hand, but it did not appear to have hit anything vital. A suddenly explosion of gunshots near him caused Shade's heart to almost jump out of his chest. However, he instantly relaxed when he realized it was on the other side of the armor plated wall of the van.
When Shade had rolled underneath the van, the shadow mutant had instantly 'jumped' out of that mess. The closest shadow had been right above him, inside the armored van. He could hear the people yelling about something outside before more gunshots began to ring out. However, they barely bothered Shade this time. Instead, he carefully locked the rear door as he began to inspect the three duffel bags that were lying in the back of the van. Opening each other, he was pleased to see they were all filled with hundreds of bills.
"Perfect." Shade said, as he slipped an arm under one of the bag's straps. However, there suddenly was a light in his face.
"Freeze! Don't move!" The words appeared from behind the light, and they were shaky, causing the light to wobble accordingly.
Shade froze in the light, but as the voice seemed to stall, a smile passed over the shadow stalker's face. A blade shot out his left arm as Shade slammed himself against a wall of the armored van to get out of the line of fire. The black blade sailed through the air and collided into something just above the light which Shade assumed was the scared mercenary's head. Several shots rang out, causing bullets to ricochet around the armored van. The bullets ripped into the piles of money, filling the air with shreds of dollar bills. Shade waited, arms covering his head, praying he would not be hit, as the bullets finally lost momentum and stopped flying through the air.
Miraculously, he was not hit a second time. Carefully pulling himself up, Shade was pleased to see that the mercenary was in fact dead, a knife to the brain. Quickly collected the remaining bags of money, the shadow mutant swung them over his good shoulder before peeked through the front window to see how things were outside.
So I'll just throw Shade's name in for some fun if anyone needs a sneaking little shadow in the middle of a massive riot. I was kind of keeping Shade's nose out of the riots due to the incident at the mansion in which he might be detained for a couple of weeks as he talks himself of his predicament.
If anyone has something for Shade to do, please PM me about it and I will be more than happy to work out something with you.
The shadow stalker chuckled at the night mistress's joke with half of the amusement coming from the shock that the mysterious woman actually had a sense of humor. It was indeed a side of her that Shade had not seen from her. However, he must say that he enjoyed this side more than her timid manner from the other night. She was much more fun to play with this way.
"Well I might have not got everything I wanted." Shade replied. The harshness of his voice accompanied with that evil grin of his made the shadow mutant's words seem almost threatening...or was that a compliment? It was hard to tell.
"I'm Shade." The night crawler said simply, hoping his acquaintance would get the hint.
Yack, yack, yack, yack. The two supposed leaders chatted nonsense between themselves. They plotted about things like "expansion" and "change" with little more than vague ideas about what they were actually going to do. To Shade, they sounded more like political candidates at a debate than diabolical criminal master minds. In one way, the two leaders seemed to not want the other to know what they might be planning as it could interfere with the other's ideas. However, in another way, they did not seem to be talking about anything, just talking in circles, trying to sound like they knew what they were doing.
In any case, the only valuable piece of information that Shade had collected from the exchange was that Lenna was meeting with this "family" of mutants behind the other leaaders' backs. The Adapted appeared to want to bring the leaders into this knowledge, but if she was telling the truth was yet to be determined. It was at least one bit of information that the shadow mutant could bring to Syn.
By this time, Shade's left leg was falling asleep as the pressure between the surrounding AC vent and the rest of his body had cut off a vital blood vessel. The tingling was only in its beginning stages, and Shade tries to shift slightly, without making too much noise to relieve the pressure. His current state reminded him that it would be hard trying to back himself out of his tight space. Maybe it would be better to 'jump' his way out whenever he got the chance.
However, he still had work to do so the shadow mutant settled in again, trying to decipher the jargon that the two powerful individuals passed between each other as he tried to ignore the growing numbness in his leg.
In between the gunfire, Shade heard the winged mutant shout something out at the mercenaries as he swooped in for another path, knocking out the last light that was cutting off Shade's path. He 'jumped' behind a merc firing into the sky and sliced a dagger across the back of his knees, causing him to scream in pain and fall back, still firing. The bullets bounced around the other guards, taking down two others. As Shade moved slid from behind him, a spot light blasted Shade into vision.
Like a deer in the headlights, the shadow mutant froze for a moment before something punched him in the right shoulder. The round's impact hit Shade so hard that he rolled back from the shot. Luckily, the armored vehicle was near as he continued to roll again and again as the other guards tried to blast him. Rolling under the vehicle, Shade was safe from most rounds, but it did not stop the shooting. Hiding under the bulletproof truck, Shade had little room to maneuver. A nearby guard sprinted over and stuck his gun under the vehicle, blasting away. One could only guess if the shadow mutant could survive the assault of a machine fired at such a close range.
While Shade's face retained its half-cocked smile, his eyes flared at her statement. He never could hide things from showing in his eyes. It was a habit that he had developed from his common practice of hiding his eyes. Had her words been a challenge? Threatening to attack him if he irritated her by not leaving? Well, he would love to see her try. He was not some pathetic human that could be squashed like a tiny ant. He was a mutant, and a deadly one, especially if she did not know exactly what Shade was capable of. However, Shade was not able to jump across the table. Well, maybe not yet. He was looking forward to giving the dark haired beauty a little payback for her little stunt that she had pulled, but not just yet.
"Yes, it would be such a shame to disturb such a thrilling place." Shade replied with a little of sarcasm, glancing around the cafe. However, he kept his sixth sense trained on the dark mistress in case she tried a small retaliation for his slight offhanded comment. Shade couldn't help by notice the eerie calmness of the place. It seemed like everyone felt safe as long as the woman across from him (Sapphire, was it?) was happy.
"So, I guess you are the one to thank for Mr. McCarthy's recent compliance? I was not so sure of his motives after our little incident." Shade said, bringing his attention back to the woman across from him.
The bulbs of the floodlights all over the grounds Gave the luster of mid-day to everything around. When, what to my wondering eyes should appear, But a silvery figure with a body like a mirror.
Every was going perfectly! Exactly as planned. Shade knew he could count on the little redhead. After all she had managed to infiltrate the X-men, along with other more dangerous organizations. The little pre-teen spy was turning out to be a good asset for the Order and a great asset to Shade. Maybe he wouldn't even have to go forth with his remaining plan. Well, it was better to be safe than sorry though after all. Wasn't it? And he couldn't just stroll into the X-mansion could he now. That would draw far too much of the wrong attention from both sides of the fence. So as Shade pressed the call button on the phone in his pocket, the shadow mutant faded the invisible smile from his lips. He did not want the little Orderling to catch onto anything unexpectedly.
It can safely be assumed that Shade was by far not prepared for the sudden explosion from the fiery redhead. He had forgotten how emotional she could be with her powers. The blast sent Shade back several feet before slamming into the ground and rolling over a few times across the frozen, lightly snow-covered grass. However, he quickly made his way to his feet.
"Easily enough." Shade responded to Kaitlyn's words. He admired her quick thinking. It seemed a gift of the tiny explosive expert. Drawing a dark blade from the inside sleeve of his jacket, the night stalker returned the child's smirk before sending the blade spinning towards her.
Obviously, it was not aimed at her. That would be preposterous! However, it might have been a lot closely aimed at Kaitlyn than she would have liked. Possibly even close enough to graze off her arm. But it had to seem like they were really fighting, right?
"How about you get out of my way before I have a kill you?" Shade exclaimed in a incredibly believable voice, even though it might have been a little louder than usual as he hoped his voice would carry across the frozen grounds of the mansion.
The beer was adequate to say the least. However, Shade was not necessarily given the appropriate time to enjoy it fully as mutant haters had to ruin the fun, as they always did. A male member of a group of inferior subspecies of the genus Homo mouthed off his opinion of the presence of several of the more visible mutants in the underground bar. Of course, it was always the unseen mutants that one had to worry about. Shade had drawn a dark blade of his own as he readied himself to strike in necessary.
However, his senses suddenly went haywire as he felt the presence of that oily darkness. It radiated out from the midnight black haired woman. She seemed to be able to control them like dark appendages of her body. Impressive. Especially when she picked up the mutant hater, who seemed to be named Clet, and crushed him like an egg before making him apologize while puppetizing him. Then everyone went back to what they were doing beforehand, like this was a common occurrence. It was a little weird to say the least.
A nearby purple mutant saved the hater's day by coming to his rescue to heal him. It was something Shade never would have done. He would have let the human suffer for its stupidity. Drinking the remainder of his drink, Shade tossed a five dollar bill on the bar before making his way towards the black haired beauty. He paused a moment as the weak looking Clet was moved out of the way. Sliding into the seat across from the assassin artist, Shade had his classic half smirk plastered across his face.
"Well, that was rather entertaining. Do you crush men around here often?"
Most of the people Shade passed on the street were too busy staring at the bombshell of a brunette to give the hooded man following behind her any concern. In the same sense, Shade was too preoccupied with watching the woman in front of him to notice anybody else on the street. As the mysterious woman disappeared into a dark staircase marked only by a single handwritten chalkboard sign, the shadow stalker felt the flowing darkness slip through the shadows and into the restaurant. Anger, nerves, and the unknown of what might be waiting for Shade down in that dark alley caused the Orderling to turn around and take one step before conquering his feeling of fear. Slipping into the darkness, the shadow mutant disappeared for a moment before reappearing in a small cafe.
To say the place was not Shade's kind of place would be an understatement. It was obvious he was the cheapest dressed patron in the restaurant and more than one person was staring at him in looks that were close to disdain. Pulling his hood down, Shade's piercing blue eyes screamed murder at a nearby woman who was gawking at him. She instantly returned to her suspicion-looking food. Sweeping the restaurant, Shade's eyes spotted his prey.
His immediate impulse was to strike before she had a chance to react. However, he stayed his hand. The woman fascinated him. The woman's mutation fascinated him, and if he killed her with a surprise attack, he would never know how she was interacting with the darkness like that. So instead, he decided to sit. He took a seat at the bar, sliding the bar stool underneath him. When the somewhat bewildered bartender asked him what he wanted to drink, Shade merely pointed at a appropriately looking beer.
"I'll take that one." He said simply. The bartender retrieved it with a sigh, now obviously annoyed at the commoner. However, Shade paid him no attention. He took the drink and gulped down a large shallow before he glanced over at the brunette. She was a rather peculiar one, that was for certain.
Shade was starting to feel anxious. He had been outside for hours now, and the shadow stalker had not felt anything unusual. And now, he was second guessing himself that he might have missed the person responsible for the oily blackness he had felt the other night. Pacing back and forth, Shade was contemplating if he was ever going to find the person responsible. This was his only lead. If he could not find the person here, the shadow mutant was out of options. Maybe, that was for the best. Shade liked being the only shadow in the dark.
Just as he was giving up hope of ever finding the figure of darkness, the shadow mutant walked into a nearby shadow to 'jump' out of the area. Sensing for a choice location, Shade's senses suddenly stumbled upon that same strange feeling. However, as he did, it disappeared from his senses, and not like it had moved out of a shadow. It was like it had...teleported. A cold shiver ran down his spine at the thought. Was it possible that another mutant out there could really 'jump' through the shadows like him?
At the moment, Shade was more worried about where the other shadow jumper had disappeared to. Could they sense Shade like he could sense him? Were they stalking him now? The feeling of being watched made Shade spin around to look behind him, but there was nothing there. Could they turn invisible too?
No, there is was. That feeling of silky smooth darkness appeared only a hundred yards away from him. Maybe, the other mutant was after Shade. Deciding to be more cautious than usual, the Orderling backed himself into the darkness corner of the alley in case he had to make a quick get away. However, he was not expecting to see the black haired beauty the past night.
The idea that the other darkness mutant struck Shade like a slap to the face. Of course! It had to be her. She had been the only one in the office the other night. And the way she had dealt with him meant that she must have been a pro, or a very lucky rookie. Shade gritted his teeth at the thought of how she had embarrassed him the other night. She would get her payback. That was for sure.
Slipping out of the shadow, Shade fell into step behind the dark haired bombshell as she literally parted the street as she walked, turning every head in the process. Shade only played along with the act. The street was too busy a place for a showdown between the two mutants, and two bright. Shade would follow her and strike when she was more vulnerable.
It is true that Texas is the only country that counts on this survey!
And I concur with Kaitlyn in the bloodshed rituals. I have participated in such rituals and am glad to say that I was able to escape narrowly with my life.
My only comment to the UT vs. A&M feud is that everyone should experience a A&M game at home. It is ridiculously fun! Especially if you come from a school that does not have any traditions. I would suggest going with a friend though so they can explain everything to you.
Plus, North Gate is blast after the game, although I will admit that Sixth Street is better.
