The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

They walked for a short while in silence, but Tses noticed a small flicker of frustration go through Choloe's face. It was like the girl seemed frustrated, and it took Tses a while to figure out what about. This little annoyance wasn't about the whole 'Ty being missing' thing. No, she recognized that face. It was one Ty made when he was frustrated with her lack of 'feelings'. Tses had to resist sighing. Even when she was trying to help she pissed people off. More and more it was feeling like Ty had left to avoid her, and Butterfly was just the unfortunate victim here. But Tses had to try to at least make things a little better.
"Listen kid," She said, turning to face the girl as they paused at an intersection just on the other side of the park. "I know you're worried, but you gotta see these things through my eyes... Ty and I are both street kids; me longer'n him, but still. And when you live on the street, sometimes things happen beyond your control. You twist an ankle, you lock yourself in a building, or heck, fall into a building... you deal with the situation at hand, and time can get out of hand. Ty never came to visit every couple of days. He's always been a day or two in either direction. Heck, for all I know he could just still be pissed off, or forgot what day New Years was..." As the light changed, she started across it, glancing back to read Butterfly's face. She felt like she was on dangerous territory here. she wanted to help, but she didn't know how to without pissing the girl off. She had a habit of making people angry at the wrong times.
Tses settled back as the other two girls spoke, leaning against a tree and watching them. In a way, she related to them. But in another, she didn't. She didn't know how it felt not being able to hide what she was. The only life she knew was one on the streets where human, mutant, it didn't matter. You still had no home, no family, no money. You wanted something? You took it. You wanted to live? You fought for it. There was no maybes or what ifs or could bes. There just was. This was one of the rare points in her life she was able to choose her path, and had the option to be something more. Her life was changing. She wondered if their's ever would.
"People are never nice. Whether you look like a cat or look like a human. They're always going to find something wrong, and it's up to you to use those negative things as your stength. Although, I'm probably not the best person to get advice from." Tses' eyes twinkled slightly with mischief. "I don't exactly follow the golden rules you 'mansion' kids seem to." Heck, she didn't follow ANY of the rules they seemed to. She glanced at Amber, watching for a reaction from her. It was always interesting to see how people responded to her slightly rebellious nature. Most people disapproved, a handful tried to reform her. The rare few enjoyed what she did. Like Ty.
That didn't really matter now though.
"Sometimes life could be 'easier' without dealing with prejudice and powers, but that would change who you are. That animosity makes you stronger, if you let it."
Tses made a face as she looked around, and glanced at the different buildings. "I don't really know the street names, but I know a lot of subway stops and general landmarks. Ty and I went to the zoo, and there's a construction district over there. That'd be one place to check, so we'll loop that way." Up ahead, she could see the greenery that was central park spanning in front of them. It seemed like an endless world to search through. Rubbing her neck a little, she made a face. "I wish I had a power that could help with this.... Like, a mutant finding ability...." That would sure be useful right now. Heck, even Ty's powers could help. She could see if Ty had passed by sometime soon or something like that... He seemed to find her at the hospital that way, at least.
"We just gotta remember it's only been three days... he said he got bit by a poodle, so maybe he just had to go to the doctor or something, and deal with that..." It was a possibility. And even with the anti-mutant tensions, there were more and more people looking out for each other. The humans were more aware of their presence, but they were also clumping together for protection. There was them and us now. She just had to make sure Ty didn't get on the wrong side of that.
Tses was glad Chloe didn't remark much when she handed her the paper. Tses always felt uncomfortable admitting she didn't know something as dumb as reading, but it was hard to learn things like that on the street. Oh, she picked up some of the basics, like numbers, common words like Bank or Coffee by piecing together clues in what people said and did. But most of it just seemed jumped to her. It didn't help that the paper was mostly street names, and those didn't make sense to her anyway. She tried to pronounce them out, but they had no associated meaning, so what point did they have? She watched with a curious gaze as Butterfly skimmed the paper, and wondered what she was seeing.
>>"We can look in the park."
The park, that seemed like a good idea... though what would they find there? Whatever, they'd try anyway.
>>"...he's not in that last place. That's the apartment I'm staying at."
Tses found it hard not to frown at that last one. Ty had never showed her any apartment before... maybe he trusted her more, or maybe he just didn't think to. She needed to get over these 'jealousy' type feelings. Deep breathe in, deep breathe out. "The park is actually pretty close, so that's a good place to start. You a walker, or should we take the subway?" Tses said, starting slowly in that direction while waiting for Butterfly to come. The girl was trying to reassure her, which was cute, but it wasn't solving the problem so not really helpful in the end though. Still sweet though.
Tses felt a small bit of relief as Butterfly spoke. She was certain Ty was mad at her, but if he was just hurt... ok, well maybe that wasn't the best thing, but that was better than mad. She could deal with hurt. They both got hurt and got over it. Heck, she was hurt now, and hurting pretty badly. But she wasn't alone, and Butterfly was here. Somehow they'd sort this out. Right?
Reaching under the edge of her skirt where her pouch was that kept her knife, she pulled out a piece of paper Ty had given her quite a while back. "Ty gave me this a while back... it's a place to start at least. It's places he said he'd been and could be. Parks, buildings, an old apartment..." She said holding it out. The little scrawling letters reflected back to her, and she looked uncomfortable for a second. "I kinda tried to make sense of it, but... Honestly I'm not great at reading. Maybe you can figure it out? Then we can look for him... I just... We'll find him. Don't worry."
She tried to give a reasuring smile, but inwardly, she was dreading what they would find. If Ty was gone, he could be hurt, and that would be awful... but if he had really left them both, that would be too... one way or the other, things were bad, and it was hard to be enthusiastic. But she didn't want to scare Chloe.... In a way, she saw her own younger sister in the girl, and she did the same thing she did back then: put on a brave face and hid her own pain.
Tses was never great at hugs, and this was no exception. She stood with her arms kinda awkwardly up as Butterfly hugged her, then sheepishly rubbed the back of her neck trying to shake off the odd sensation. Hugs were still bizarre to her, and she hoped the girl wouldn't make a habit of them. Every time someone gave her one she never knew how to hug back.... "I haven't seen him." She said, responding to the question. Her own hope started to vanish, and dread started to take over. So Ty hadn't even gone to see his sister... What could have gone wrong?
"I was going to go try and figure out what happened, actually... He never came by for New Years like he said he would. I thought he stood me up at first... but... if he didn't see you either..."[/b] She wasn't sure what to think of this and sighed, running her hand through her bangs.
"And no, you didn't do anything to make him not want to see you... he was really excited about meeting you. Well, he was pissed at me, but that's kinda always my fault." Tses said ruefully. She glanced at the girl, and tried to be as calm as possible. It wouldn't help to get them both freaked out, especially if Ty was in trouble.
Tses paused on the fire escape when she heard an unfamiliar voice call her name. Her posture grew slightly defensive for a moment, before she saw a rather familiar bit of dark hair. It was the same little hairstyle that had sent her over the edge when she thought Ty was cheating on her. that seemed like it was eons ago, and she was in disbelief. While she'd never met Chloe in person, she knew it was who it had to be, or at least, she thought she did. Much like the other female, she believed it, because all she had to hang on to right now was hope.
Turning, she shifted so she was standing at the edge of the fire escape. She pushed her hair out of her face, and her eyes checked to make sure nothing else was below her. "Butterfly?" Tses said, the nick-name coming out rather than the girl's real name. That was what Tses heard Ty call her most often, and it stuck. With a jump, she pounced down from the last fire escape rung, and landed in a crouch next to the girl. She stood, eyes skimming over her, hoping for some form of response.
It was only a few days after New Years, but Tses was still depressed. After a day of feeling angry, wrecking the apartment, and a bit of crying, and a few more days of feeling worthless and laying around, Tses started to think of people other than herself. But that didn't mean she was happy. She still couldn't believe Ty had ditched their date, and she couldn't believe his sister would let him. Unless they were in cahoots, which was very possible. And that irritated her to think about.
It had been three days; three days of worrying, wondering, and generally blowing up over the whole ordeal. But it was on this third day, Tses started to recover. Rather than feeling stood up, Tses started to wonder, and was feeling curious about what really happened. Did something happen to Ty? Did he ditch her on purpose? What if he was hurt, and what if he needed rescuing? She couldn't feel better until she knew, and she decided she would at least try to find him.
Wherever he was.
With a feeling of determination, Tses moved through her apartment; getting showered, dressed, and getting into her typical skirt, over shirt, no-skin showing outfit, she felt ready for anything, and equipped for the hunt she was sure to be going into. This was going to work. It had to. with a glance in the mirror, she tried to decide if she looked braver than she felt, but she couldn't see anything in those sad blue eyes. She never felt hurt like this before, but if he did this on purpose, she certainly wasn't going to let anyone make her feel like this again.
Hopeful, but afraid, Tses set out through the window, hoping to find answers. Confused, but motivated, she started down the fire escape, mind buzzing with activity. The only problem was she was so focused, she didn't even notice a figure coming down the street.
And luck would have it, it was one of the few people she needed answers from.
After meeting Sophia and getting let into the mansion, Tses finally managed to break away and seek out her new younger friend. The place was huge; she couldn't deny that, and surprisingly well kept even with so many little mutants running all over the place. She managed to avoid most people today, which was lucky, but she would rather make this encounter as minimal as possible. Being in a place like this made her feel like she was on trial: they all felt like doo-gooders and she didn't want to be dragged into their cult.
It seemed like every turn led to another, and Tses was wandering in circles. Pushing her bangs out of the way, she wished she'd had some clearer directions. Maybe she'd had some, it was hard to remember since she didn't tend to pay attention very well when people talked. Sometimes, she thought she should try to work on her people skills.
But that WAS what she was here for, after all.
Then she saw a familiar blond figure walking out of a doorway, and Tses forced herself to jump forward, calling out to catch the young girl's attention. "Serena! Hey, there you are!" She said, and gave what she hoped was a friendly smile. Inwardly, she hoped the girl wasn't going to cry this time. She really hated tears.
Tses was having quite a week, and she was testy, at best. Her emotions were haywire, her brain felt like it was going a hundred miles a minutes, and nothing seemed to make sense to her right now. Ty was gone. There was nothing else to it, and she had to accept he probably wasn't coming back. She didn't know if something had happened to him, or if he just moved on and was done trying to deal with her. One way or the other, she had to let go, and try to find some way to cope with the loss.
It was a fairly sunny day, still cold, but lacking some of the blizzard-like snow that seemed to take over New York at this time of year. Tses caught a cab for the long trip, and found herself heading north towards what she felt was one of the 'mutant manor's. To her, both the sanctuary and the mansion seemed the same; a place for freaks to gather and compare their little 'powers'. While the sanctuary seemed a little darker, the mansion was where she had taken Serena to quite a few weeks earlier.
Getting out of the cab, and moving to the gate, she shuffled and tried to get the attention of someone on the inside. She wasn't sure exactly how this worked, especially since it was daytime and there were more people around, but she wanted to make sure they weren't treating the kid to badly.
She was a little protective, after all, even under her tough skin.
After a few minutes, she thought she saw someone coming, and shifted, waiting for them to get closer. She tried to be on her fest behavior, which meant she avoided looking annoyed and pissed off for the wait... at least for now.
Tses thought on his question seriously for a moment as she took the wheel back and got the car back where it was supposed to be to the right of the lines. She glanced at him, assessing the fear on his face, and sighed, slowing down and figuring she probably terrified the kid enough. She was a little crazy, but she wasn't a complete jerk, so she settled back into the seat and left the door alone for now. Too bad. It would have been fun to see if she could make the next shot in a smaller trash can.
She turned the corners at a slower pace, so he wasn't being thrown like a pinball anymore. "No, I know being one doesn't make me invincible. But what good does it do to waste my time being afraid of stuff? If something happens, whatever. I'd rather go out in a blaze of glory." She shrugged her shoulders. She never thought her way of thinking was wrong before, but he seemed to act like it was.
As they came to an intersection, a red sign came into view, and Tses hesitated, squinting at the word. "Hey, what's that say?" She asked as politely as she could, trying to figure out what action she was supposed to take now. She grumbled under her breathe and sighed. "Didn't realize driving would have so much reading..." She said to herself, once more feeling as dumb as the kid seemed to think she was.
Tses sighed and slowly looked at the kid. She wondered if this was how Ty felt with her all the time when he tried to talk to her. It was like no matter what she said, it seemed to go in one ear and out the other, and then the seriousness resulted in another round of giggles. Tses was never receptive to emotions, whether it was this lost kid or her lost boyfriend. Maybe she could try being a little nicer to the little girl.
Only a little though.
>>"But if you get someone else to watch me, then aren’t you just giving me to a stranger and putting me in danger?"
Tses frowned. It was a good point, and as she continued to describe the types of bad people, Tses momentarily wondered if it could happen. what if she gave the kid over to a serial killer? How would she feel about herself if she got hurt because she just lacked the emotional maturity to deal with the situation that presented itself? Probably about as bad as she felt now that Ty wasn't around, and they left on bad terms because of her. It was like watching a noose start to tighten around her neck. Inch by inch, she was getting roped into babysitting duty.
"Safe... I think safe is a relative term, kid. You may be safe from like, muggers, but not from me being a bad influence. There are reasons i don't like cops, and they probably aren't as good as yours." Tses said, sighing and looking around. She wasn't insisting the kid leave now, more like warning her that their 'friendship' wasn't necessarily a good thing. As they moved, slowly shifting away from the food court, Tses kept skimming the crowd. She spotted a couple dresses finally, but they were all floral patterns attached to skinny blonds on their cell phones.
"I'm glad you think I'm handling things fine... at least your not crying or running away in terror yet." Tses said, a snarky sarcastic joke slipping in. She wondered what she would have been like if she wasn't on the street her whole life. Would she have been this giggly and cheerful even after loosing her big sister in a mall?
Ok, so old ladies apparently didn't seem to be something this kid was interested in; no surprise there. Tses wouldn't have been all too thrilled either. But that didn't help solve Tses' problem. Trying to find someone to find someone was apparently more difficult than she first assumed. The mall was full of quite a few people she wouldn't pawn the girl off on: teenage punks, fighting couples, cuddling couples that were oblivious to everyone around them, and then the occasional snotty teenybopper. It was strange when Tses was actually one of the better options for childcare....and somewhat frightening.
She turned slowly in place, and waited for the answer to her second question. To her surprise, the younger girl grinned, and Tses had to resist the urge to stare. She didn't think her question had been that odd, but apparently it was by the young child's reaction.
>> "Oh, she looks like me, silly."
Tses wanted to roll her eyes. Well how was she supposed to know that? She didn't look a thing like her younger sister, who was a brown haired brown eyed beauty. Well, she had been last time Tses saw her. Sometimes, in her mind she still saw Kelarii like this little kid; she would have been sweet, childlike, and certainly she would have never grown up. In her mind, that was what she thought at least.
"K, the dress helps a bit; sometimes it's easier to spot clothing than anything else i these place..." Tses said thoughtfully, and started to hunt for the clothing. There didn't seem to be any dresses in the food court though. Plenty of weather inappropriately short skirts, jeans, and leg warmers though. The sister was probably somewhere else in the mall hunting for the kid. Probably wherever the child had come from. Based on this girl's behavior, she probably didn't do the 'stay in one place until you get found' thing she'd heard parents try to teach. That made Tses smile a little in her head though. She liked independence in the little twirp.
As the kid analyzed her name, she moved from annoyed to flattered, and back to annoyed again. "Hey, don't be getting ideas. I'm just helping you find someone to help you find your sister! I I'm really not equipped to deal with kids. Honestly, you're probably safer with the old lady. Didn't you learn like, stranger danger or anything?" Tses said putting a hand on her hip.
She made a little face as she felt the texture of a tiny piece of chili that had escaped the cleaning spree, and flicked it off with her wrapped hands. The arm bands she wore would definitely need a good wash, while the fishnets and her shirt would probably have to go in the trash. At least her pants weren't ruined... if she told Chrys she was attacked by chili, the other mutant wouldn't believe her and she might get dragged on another miserable shopping excursion.
Tses looked at the little girl slightly bewildered, and was relieved when the child at least agreed to be pawned off assisted in finding her sister. She quickly glanced around the mall, looking for a likely victim. But as she did, the listened to the girl, and felt herself chuckling slightly at the comment. "Trust me kid, I don't want to see a guard or a police officer any more than you are. I know most adults would be all 'they're the good guys, they're trying to help'. but between you and me, they're nothing but wolves in sheep's clothing." Tses muttered, and pushed her hair out of her face. She really needed to trim her bangs because they got in the way so often, but a haircut was pretty far down her to do list.
"How do you feel about old ladies?" Tses said, eyeballing an older woman that looked like she might be willing to help the young girl find her sister. she didn't seem too bad, although she looked like she probably smelled like prunes and cats. Although, that was what every old person seemed to smell like to Tses. Her neighbor had more of the cat smell than anything else though. "She doesn't have a badge, which is a plus.... although, if she's hard of hearing I guess that could make it hard for her to hear what your sister looks like.... what does she look like, anyway?" Tses glanced at the kid, and figured if she was going to be looking for people, she may as well watch for the kids sister at the same time.
While she gazed, Tses tried to ignore the smell of food, and her stomach was still rumbling. She'd need to get something to eat eventually, but it would probably have to wait until she got rid of this little shadow that had stumbled into her life. While she tried to decide what she would eat, the girls introduction wiggled it's way into her brain, and she shrugged her shoulders in reply. "I'm Tses." She said casually, although she momentarily wondered if it was a good idea to give this kid her name. Especially since she had tried to spit polish Tses' shirt.
