The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

As the air rushed into the room, Tses wandered after him like a moth to the light. But she paused at the window, noticing the note on the window. She frowned a little, squinting at it, but the only words she could read right away were 'Tses, Sorry, Understand and Fish[y]'. There were several I's in the mix, but it would take longer to decipher it than she wanted to spend indoors. So she figured she'd just do the simple thing and ask.
She scrambled up the fire escape, not as graceful as she normally was, but crawled to the rooftop without incident. Then she flopped on the rooftop, and breathed in the air, shutting her eyes and sighing. Her brain felt happily dizzy from the oxygen, and she finally lost a little of the shaking that seemed to follow her from that terrible trunk.
"If you could call this a date." She smirked, and opened an eye, peaking at him. "You still owe me one, by the way." She shut her eyes again and put her hands behind her head, just breathing deeply. Some of the buzzing left her brain, and she felt her muscles relaxing a little. But she was still ready for fun. "and tonight doesn't count." She added quickly in case he tried to get out of it. She wasn't sure what she wanted to do exactly, but she was still a little miffed about missing out on New Years.
After another moment, she paused, and then asked. "Hey Ty, what was that stuff on the paper outside my window?"[/color] She didn't know if he remembered her reading problems, so she approached it lightly trying to keep her pride intact.
Misses Straford. Tses mentally mocked the name. It seemed fitting though for the person standing in front of her. Although, Professor Seemed to be a bit too classy, even for the polished individual. The way it was said seemed like a bit of a white lie, but Tses didn't call her on it. She was picking her fights carefully today. Mock the door greater: check. Now try to find Serena and behave the rest of the time: still in progress.
Then.... the girl had to be a show off. Tses wasn't dumb, but a few of the words were a little on the large side, and it took her some time to process them. She made sure not to show her confusion on the outside, and gave a casual shrug and spun in a circle walking backwards for a few steps then forwards again. "Hey, you're the one who decided I needed a tour guide. Lead away Misses Straford." She tried hard to be polite, but she couldn't control herself all the way. She probably came across as a snotty teenager instead of being in her twenties, but it was just Tses' way of dealing with stressful situations. She hated being caught trying to be nice, and was perhaps being a bit brattier than normal. She wouldn't be surprised if she got kicked out, to be honest. But she was sure going to try to make this work out.
Tses just shrugged, and feigned innocence. "Whatever. Don't wear them at night. You look fine either way." She watched him as he gathered his stuff, and put her familiar boots on, zipping and buckling them slowly to keep herself distracted. Without really thinking about it, she loosened the buckles a little. wanting to have a little more space than she normally did. Somehow, everything kept making her feel confined right now. She needed air. Her apartment just seemed too small.
"Depends on what you want to do. We can just climb upwards then go from there?" Tses suggested, and gave a little smirk. It seemed to waver a little though, and she was having trouble keeping herself together. She was too eager to get outside, too eager for a distraction.
There was one expression Tses was rather good at noting, and that was distrust. She saw it in store owner's faces, she saw it in cops, she saw it in most humans. It was natural, and probably well founded when it came to her, but there was certainly a small amount of pride that came into play when she saw someone distrusted her. Oh sure, the distrust was probably warranted, but she liked when people at least gave her a chance to prove she was distrustful. She liked the pride of screwing things up all on her own, thank you very much.
"Name's Tses. T-s-e-s. First S is silent." Tses said, and was relieved to step into the building. Now, if she could just ditch this over-distrustful door greater, she could actually find Serena. The kid had to be here some....where.... Crap, it looked even bigger on the inside. She glanced around, chewing on her lip for a second and letting out a slight whistle. "Well, you guys certainly seem to keep things prim and proper here don'tcha?" She put her hands on her hips, and did a little turn, then glanced back as the woman spoke again.
"Sure, whatever. Escort away. I don't know where we'll find her, but it's not THAT big of a place. She can't be too far away, right?" Secretly, she wished the girl would go away though. She hated having someone hovering around her. Honestly, it reminded her of those little earrings stores that were so skinny the store employees were practically breathing down your neck. Do you know how hard it was to steal earrings while the employee is staring at you? Pretty hard. and trying to find Serena with this uh... who in the world was this anyway?
"So do you have a name or something, or do you just get the illustrious door greater title?" Tses asked. She mentally high fived herself for using a big word. Now she wouldn't look completely uncultured. At least, that was what she hoped.
She really needed to practice her formal interaction abilities. Or whatever you would call what she needed to have to deal with this girl.
Leave well enough alone: this was a phrase Tses would do well to learn, but unfortunately, the time for learning that hadn't come yet. As Regan continued her rant, and Amber gave her input, she grew bored. And boredom for Tses was something that usually ended in disaster. And illegal activity was usually the mildest of her possibly reactions. She sat and let the light from her powers crawl across her arms, wishing she could will it into a flower or a shape, something other than her current tendrils of light, but they just kept licking her arms like little flames looking for something to consume. It was like her emotions: just trying to eat her from the inside out.
>>"I don't need to take this crap from you Tses. One day you are going to pick on the wrong person and you are going to regret it."
Oh, she was, was she? Well, today seemed like as good of a day as any. She let the energy condense in her palm, making a handful of tiny explosives. Then with a flick of her fingers, she sent them sailing through the air. One exploded right next to Regan's tail, the other next to her ear, and the last somewhere by her shoulder. It was probably something that would come back to haunt her in a few seconds, but all she could feel was the thrill it gave her to, how would you say it, taunt someone's darker side. Regan was on the edge, who knows what she'd do. And Amber wasn't really taking sides right now, but that could quickly change. All she knew were the words echoing through her broken little mind, you are going to regret it.
Tses felt satisfied as the kid screamed, and then she slowed the car to a reasonable speed and drove the rest of the way to the convenience store almost like she'd driven before. Well, with the lack of checking the mirror and stuff like that, because to her, the car only had a gas pedal and a brake. The brake was optional though. She smiled at the kid with an expression that still bordered on a smirk. It was far too sweet for her personality. "Sure, I'll take you back. I'm sure your brother has missed you."
She drove the car back into it's parking space as daintily as possibly, hit the brake then quickly fiddled with the gear shift putting it into park. It was more difficult than she though, but once she managed it, she quickly moved to leave the car before anything could happen. But not without a flash of a smile at the kid. "See, not a scratch on the car! You teach well under pressure! We should have another lesson sometime!" She laughed, then darted out of the car slamming the door behind her. She thought she could hear something behind her, but kept running like a little blur of psychotic energy moving into the shadows.
>>"You can't always be scared or insecure in life, otherwise you'll miss out with people that are important to you or those who could be."
Tses listened to the little speech, and controlled herself enough to keep her expression neutral. Her first instinct was to be defensive, but she knew it would just spark an argument. Plus, Butterfly was right. she didn't want to care about anyone, because it meant pain. She didn't see the upside to that. It just would end badly. It was easy for Chloe to give advice now, but what if Ty didn't come back? Would she still feel the same? Would she forgive him and keep caring? It just seemed so pointless. Yet, she kept looking everywhere for some sign of the red-tinted hair and the slim figure of the pick-pocket. She couldn't stop hoping, but she sure tried stopping herself from caring.
"Its easy to say that, but it's harder to do it. At least for me. I can tell myself all I want I'll be better about showing I care. But then the situation comes to it, just doesn't work out. And then there's this. Ty's gone, and I don't know what I hope to find... Part of me worries he's hurt, but the other half of me worries he just left....left us. If someone cares about you one moment, then leaves you the next, what's the point?" she kicked at a rock in the path, and it clanged against a metal trash can. Her eyes widened slightly as she looked up then, and she felt herself hurrying forward, noticing a familiar little while tail poking out of the trash.
"No way..." She ignored the trash and rescued the tiny white tiger from the rubbish. Luckily, the last few objects were just fast food bags, and it wasn't dirty. But it was still frightening to see something that important in the trash can. Her brain scrambled with thoughts, and she glanced at Butterfly, then the tiger, uncertain of how to take this find. "He.... Ty's mom gave this to him... He carried it everywhere... why would he throw it away?"
Tses was starting to wonder if he really had left them. After all, he lost his mom... maybe he held onto the tiger, but in a way, maybe he was hurt that she'd left him.. She didn't know the full story, but Tses sometimes felt angry with her own mom being dead. To her, the woman abandoned her and her little sister with an abusive man. If Ty saw his mom that way, he could have been so mad at Tses he took it out on the little tiger, and tried to just get some space. Tses knew he'd regret the action, so she couldn't let the tiger get tossed out. But... she was so confused, and it showed in her face as she shifted between worried and upset. It was too much to process.
Tses was glad to see Ty's grin emerge. She hadn't seen it in forever, and it was refreshing. After all the fighting and arguing, it felt good to just talk about doing something dumb. She felt bad though when she saw the pain in his face. That was the one thing she didn't know how to deal with. Her own pain, whatever, she'd get over it. But seeing someone else hurt made her feel guilty, and that was an emotion she tended to avoid. How could she make him feel better when she still felt so broken inside? Maybe it would just take time; but time was one thing that always escaped her.
Tses never thought about growing up. She never thought about the future, and to be honest, it frightened her. To think of someday gave her a stomach ache, because most of the time she just assumed she wouldn't live until 'someday'. Heck, when she hijacked that car, there were several insults the kid gave her that pretty much added up to 'too dumb to live'. Maybe she was just too reckless to have a future. But she kept beating the odds, and with each new adventure she got closer to a 'someday'. What would it look like? Certainly Ty and her couldn't keep wandering around rooftops forever, could they? Could they keep being reckless? Could they live on the edge like this forever?
Well, they could try.
She gave a grin, and sat up straighter drawn in by the idea of some fun. "You know, I don't think we have done anything just because we wanted to in awhile. We cause trouble naturally, but it's nice to do it on purpose every once and awhile." She laughed, and then blushed at his last addition. She'd deal with that problem when they came to it. Her cheek stung warmly from the kiss, and she resisted rolling her eyes at him.
As he got ready, she shook her head as he put the shades on, and stood up, snatching the glasses from his hands and tossing them on the couch. 'Definitely no shades. You look like a stoner or something trying to wear those at night. Besides, I don't even see what the deal is. She flicked him on the nose and walked over, picking up her own leather jacket from the back of the kitchen chair where she'd left it. "I don't care if you wear shades, but don't do them just because of your eye. Had worse, seen worse, not a bit deal. Still look cute." The last bit slipped out before she could catch herself, and she quickly preoccupied herself looking for her boots.
Tses was a bit mollified by Chrys' reaction to her lack of drinking experience, but she could forgive it for now. After all, it was her own fault she'd never tried a drink before, mostly because the only people she'd ever seen drinking were hobos and they certainly didn't seem to be having fun with it. Coming to New York, she caught a glimpse of the night life though, and it made her curious. So she figured, heck, why not. she couldn't feel any worse than she did already, right?
"Innocent and adorable are definitely not words I've heard used to describe me before." Tses said sourly, but just moved towards the door. "But I guess there is a first for everything." She eyeballed Chrys' collection of hard drinks, spirits and whatever she seemed to have collected, and tried not to chuckle. This night could potentially end in disaster if much of that was consumed at once.
"Yeah sure, lead the way. I'm curious to see what your idea of a 'thieves' hideout' would be." She gave a little smirk, and held open the door as they exited. She gave a mock salute in the direction of the bathroom, then stepped into the cold almost frozen air outside. Her face was nipped at, but at least she had the mask on. It made her nose surprisingly warm.
Tses felt a little relieved by his response, but she still felt awkward and embarrassed. Sure, he said it would get better with time. Didn't mean she believed it right now. She settled back in his arms, then her ears perked up as he spoke again. Trouble? He'd let her cause trouble? She grinned up at him, some of the fear from earlier finally getting pushed past. "Both could be fun! But we should definitely do something fun! I just... I need to distract myself." Tses tried to act calm, but there was a subtle tremble as images from earlier went through her mind. She wanted to relax, and be comforted and all of that. But every-time she closed her eyes right now, she just saw darkness, and just felt trapped.
"I promised Jacob I would resist stealing, but that doesn't mean there aren't other things we can do. Vandalism, practical jokes.... all options." She smirked playfully. She felt more comfortable when they were just doing something dumb, anyway. Sure, it didn't give her the little chills a kiss did, but she felt more... her.
Tses felt relieved, although she probably wouldn't have admitted it. In her mind, it was like dropping a pet off at the pound and then hoping that it didn't get euthanized, or get an owner that treated it badly. Serena didn't seem to be in rough shape, so that was enough for her. Well, mostly. She still wasn't sold on the place after she saw the rather uh, snotty greater.
"Room mate eh? How are you two getting along?" Her curiosity was getting the best of her. She was secretly wondering if the girl had some like, plant human room mate or heck, maybe she had the cat girl as a room mate. The uh, 'nice because I want to be' person. Serena wasn't like that, was she? Was she the stereotypical mansionite kid? Tses wasn't sure. Maybe if she was lucky there was a rebellious edge somewhere in the girl. Part of her kinda thought it would be fun to teach someone her glamorous life of crime. Then again, part of her knew it was better for people to avoid that if they had the option. It had done her little good, and people did seem to be happier here than she was alone.
Tses felt the corner of her mouth twitch just ever so slightly, and she tried to keep herself calm. Deep breathe in, deep breathe out. Don't try to blow up someone in front of the building you were trying to get into. That would be a bad first impression. It took some managing, but for now, she was civil, and proud of her self, especially by the way the other woman was sizing her up. It felt like another of those 'princess and the pauper' moments, but Tses actually liked Chyrs for the most part, even if she was completely psychotic. She would take crazy over stuck up any day, and if she had to deal with the later.... well, she may just leave and come back.
"Met her wandering around the city, after she found out she was a mutant. Knew this place was like, mutant manor or something like this, so helped her find the way here. Just tryin' to make sure she's like, still alive and all that." Tses gave a suspicious glance back at the woman, and matched the annoyance. Her expression was more of the 'I really don't want to have to cause trouble' type annoyance. But she wasn't going to let someone just snob her off because of her appearance. She got enough of that from humans. she didn't need a mutant doing the same.
Tses chuckled slightly, and evil glint in her eyes. If she had been dangerous before, this was just upping the ante. "A line I'm crossing, eh? Like this?" With a jerk of the steering wheel she yanked it into oncoming traffic, then back into their own lane. It was a quick motion, but enough to create a rush, and possibly some fear in the young kid. Someone honked momentarily, but she just smirked wickedly. If he was going to keep insulting her, she would just make this more miserable for him.
"I can cross some more lines if you want... There are some on the right side of the rode as well." She grinned. She was slowly crossing the line from reckless to just plain suicidal, but his words were like a challenge to her. A challenge to be just as crazy as he already believed she could be. She had nothing to loose after all; he had everything to. Why not mess with her and see which one won this little argument. She sure couldn't loose.
"We can take a loop around the block and see how many traffic laws we can break.... orrrrr just get to the convenience store. Your choice. Keep pushing buttons." She threatened. She almost hoped he kept taunting. She liked to take her chances when it came to defending her ego.
Tses felt a snarky remarking building in her mouth as Regan grew irritated, but she managed to keep her mouth shut. At least at first. She watched the girl lash her tail and it made her laugh; a sort of snort. This girl was pretty mixed up, at least her mind. She rolled her eyes, then did a backflip landing in a handstand for no apparent reason. But it was what made Tses ....Tses. She did it for the same reason she catwalked on tall buildings, or stole stuff; for the kicks of it.
Walking on her hands for a couple feet, she flipped back to a standing position with a snotty smile. She didn't care if the girl didn't like her, or if she pissed her off at this point. She was out in the moonlight, and it's energy was like a drug dizzying her common sense. "I choose to be nice to people." She mocked, and crossed her arms. "You seem perfectly find with snapping at people when they irritate you though. You're 'good behavior' only go so far? And I never claimed to not be judgmental or any of that shit. But that's who I am as a person, not who I am as a mutant. Mutants or humans. There's not a diff. Everyone's got their own little demons and monsters that come out and play when you least expect them to. I just embrace mine." She had a wild sort of mischief that took over her expressions as she talked, that 'I dare you' face people make before doing something dumb like jumping off a bridge or skydiving. Except she was jumping without a parachute, and enjoying the thrill of the risk. 3, 2, 1. What will this become? Didn't matter to her. There was nothing to loose. Nothing to gain.
The sob story was same old same old. If they had met at a different time, perhaps Tses would have reacted better. But this was Tses post New Years, heartbroken and reckless. She had nothing to hold onto, no one to really care about or look after. She had no rhyme or reason in her life, no direction. She was a lost soul; a will-o'-the-wisp, just looking for someone to drag away from the safe path and into the darkness she was so tantalized by. Consequences were null and void. She was after fun and amusement. Life had no consequences she cared about.
"Not everyone is completely bad, but everyone has a dark side, dearie, and I'm sure your's is just as frightening or more than anyone else's."
Tses smiled for a moment, then her heart started to patter, and completely raced away when he pushed her hair behind her ear. It felt odd, almost like a tickle, but comforting in a way. She blushed slightly as their eyes met, and froze as he went to kiss her. But as he did, she relaxed a little, letting herself kiss him back. While she was nervous at first, her brain took over after a second, then she let it end, pulling back just slightly to look up at him, then back away.
"I suck at kissing... don't I?" She said nervously, and tried to resist burrowing under her covers, she just nested into his arms instead. "I'm not made for cuddly stuff... we should go blow something up instead..." She murmured, but then she closed her eyes and put her head on his shoulder, showing she was quite content if they didn't, at least for now.
