The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

As Clyde expected, calling the guy a brat did nothing. It would have been nice to see him snap, but the guy was already up on the bench returning to his “publicity stunt,” and Clyde had better things to do than deal with him. He decided that the other teen was clearly some stuck-up guy who thought he was better than anyone else, and it would bite him in the backside at some point. Still, there were a few words he wanted to speak, simply for the sake of having the final say.
“I figahed you wouldn't, since jerks nevah remembah who they were jerks to. Just so you know, you wasted my time as well.” There. Calm and to the point.
The age shifter started to turn away, but before he headed off, he looked back up at him. “Don't fall,” he said sardonically.

Clyde had tried numerous times to tell him that the questioning was unwelcome, yet the guy declared that he wouldn't stop, and the topic was getting even closer to the truth. Go figure. The guy even looked like he was enjoying playing this cat and mouse game.
The fact that Clyde appeared to be a kid among highschoolers didn't go unnoticed, but this was the first time someone at the school interrogated him about it. Maybe it was something he couldn't hope to hide forever. Though he'd rather not have to explain it, if the guy intended to keep this up not just for the rest of lunch, but for the rest of the time they were both at the school, then it appeared he was going to have little choice.
The age shifter sighed before he spoke. “Look, if you think you ah on to something, drop the whole 'slowly building up to a climax' gig and straight up tell me exactly what it is and why. Othahwise, if the subject has you that curious, go off and read up on the Fountain of Youth oh something.”
Wouldn't it be grand if he was completely wrong about that guy having suspicions?

“Brat, brat, brat,” was all Clyde heard at first. Then, it was something about being unable to learn. Ugh, why wouldn't that teen stop calling him a brat? Brats weren't children; they were misbehaved children. He might have looked like a child, but, as far as he was concerned, he thought and acted like any other normal teenager. A lot of people considered children who asked questions bothersome, but he never was out to pester people. Of course, that guy probably didn't know, but even if he did, it likely wouldn't make a difference. Either way, he'd still get pushed around. Why people refused to accept that he was mentally competent was beyond him.
The teenaged kid locked eyes with his fellow student and glared. “Brat and child ah not the same thing, so quit calling me that,” he demanded. “I have a name, you know. Besides, I believe you ah the brat heah.”
Clyde felt that it was something he should say. It wasn't like he expected to get through to him, as jerks like him were impossible to reason with, but applying the “brat” label to him seemed fair enough.

What that weird-haired teen said made Clyde beyond furious. He called him a brat again, and then he demanded he mooch off some pregnant girls? What kind of twisted suggestion was that?
“I told you, I'm not a brat!” he retorted. He wasn't that type of person! He was independent; he didn't need anyone to watch over him. He took a step forward and straightened up, trying to size up to the guy.
“All I did was ask a simple question to staht with! Who do you think you ah? Why is it you types of people get some sort of superiority complex every time they talk to someone youngah?” he questioned angrily.
His temper was on the verge of shattering, as he had to stop himself before he went into a rant about how much he hated people to treat him like he was younger than he actually was and him having no way of changing that. It would serve no purpose other than give that guy more material to insult him with.
Looking away from the teen, Clyde noticed some of the other students had stopped what they were doing to stare at the scene. Unfortunately, his outburst drew some unwanted attention. Though they didn't act nor even stand up, they were probably wondering what a child was doing yelling at someone older. It had to do with that old adage: children should respect their elders. But, that guy didn't look far from his age. For all he knew, he might even have been a bit older. However, that didn't matter. He looked younger, and therefore, got less respect.
Being accustomed to teasing, people like this guy were nothing new to Clyde. However, it'd been a while since the last major incidents from his old school, and he'd thought that he'd get off easier since nobody knew him. The age shifter looked down at the ground, upset, but managing to not cry. Why him? He knew that he had to act tough when faced with those types of people, but it was so unfair.

Clyde hadn't expected Elke to not laugh like she did, but what surprised him further was that she seemed to be trying to make him feel better about his situation. Perhaps, despite the wild child Elke was, there was some civil decency in her after all.
“Upside? Maybe...” the age shifter responded plainly. As well meaning as those words might have been, they were nothing he hadn't heard before. Those who pitied his condition tended to say things like that all the time, but he'd been looking seven for several years now, and there still was no upside he could see.
What she said about those movies was true; staying a kid was not fun. Lying about his actual age in order to get things at a cheaper price might have been a “perk,” but it was a dishonest one. Besides, normalcy sounded a lot more appealing. Surely, getting to save a few bucks every once in a while wasn't worth getting ridiculed all the time.
Elke was quick to act; she sent her clone to trick the large guy. It seemed a clever idea, though Clyde still wasn't sure if the guy was wanting to get revenge on him as well. It wasn't as if he really had a plan of his own – his mutation couldn't help him.
“Well, I suppose that makes...” he paused for a moment. Elke's clones were blabby. One of them was around when he told Elke about his mutation. If the clone decided to be blabby while in a crowded parts of campus, that meant... “Oh crap! Yah dupe!” he suddenly gasped, pointing in the direction the clone ran in. “What if she goes in theah and tells the whole school I'm a mutant? We need to get her out of theah!”
Ready to give chase, Clyde hoped that Elke was willing to help stop her duplicate. He might have been overreacting, but he was terrified of the possibility of his fellow students knowing. Them finding out he was older than he looked was bad enough, but them finding out it was because a mutant would get him eaten alive.

Clyde was all to used to people making fun of his situation. Most of the people at his old school knew about it, and there was a fair number of them that wouldn't miss an opportunity to remind him of how pathetic it was. It definitely wasn't something people thought of as “cool.”
But, WHAT?! Elke's reaction was a twist. Rather than laughing like he'd expected, she was acting all excited. Maybe a little too excited.
“Shush! Keep it down!” he said under his breath. The other students weren't very close by, but he didn't want to risk them hearing anything about this. He didn't want to admit it, but he was scared of what would happen if they found out. It would likely be his old school all over again.
It seemed Elke, who was walking around and studying him, was quite curious about this. Already, she was wanting to know more about his mutation. How was he supposed to put it? “I age shift oh something, but it likes staying heah,” he shrugged, sadly. “So, I'm pretty much stuck this way, I guess.” Unfortunately. He looked down at his feet. “It's really annoying. At least you'll probably get tallah,” he added.
Clyde watched the clone speak up, trying to get Elke's attention. That reminded him of something. The big student Elke had ticked off earlier (or was her dupicate's fault?) might still be looking for them. Mutant or not, she was still a lot smaller than that guy. “Anyways, you might want to get out of heah befoh that guy finds you,” he warned her.

Clyde glared at the guy. He wasn't swallowing what he told him, was he? Ugh, and from what he said, he was going to have to put up with his unwanted attention the rest of lunch break. “Haven't you noticed you're botharing me?” he groaned to himself, annoyed. Couldn't he take a hint? Somehow, though, he assumed that this other guy didn't care how intrusive he was being. Clyde was seriously considering grabbing his things and walking away but froze when the guy said something else.
“Say what?!” the age shifter exclaimed, a shocked expression flashing across his face. The other teen's words were strange, but the subject matter was getting too close to what was really going on for it to be coincidental. He seemed suspicious, and it was making him beyond uncomfortable. Clyde had no idea as to how much that guy knew about him, but he had to try to throw the guy off somehow, else he'd find out that he was a mutant soon (if he hadn't already). “What, you mean like aging prematurely? Whatever,” he changed to a bored tone. Maybe if he showed enough disinterest, the guy would soon grow bored. He wasn't going to hold his breath, though.

Clyde noticed that Elke was quite upset with her duplicate for spilling the information. It seemed she didn't have complete control over them, and they did as they pleased. It kind of made him wonder what would happen if one of them went off and got in trouble, and she had to take the blame. That would be hard to explain.
Anyways, Elke was interested in hearing his “secret.” The age shifter took a look around to make sure none of his classmates were within earshot. He wasn't ready to be at their mercy. However, since he'd accidentally found out Elke's secret, he kind of deserved to be at hers. He sighed; he was going to explain it. He hadn't really tried explaining in words the fact that he was a mutant before, so he had to think of what he should say.
“Okay. The fact is, I'm about as old as the rest of the people heah at this school. I just look this young because I'm a mutant, too,” he divulged in a quick and hushed tone. There, he said it. He was prepared for her to burst out laughing.

At first, it seemed that Elke was going to be the one to answer his question, but the duplicate suddenly blabbed about a Susan who was trying to get her into a home. The social workers were indeed trying to put her into a foster home. Clearly, Elke was upset about the information leak, and, for a moment, Clyde thought she was going to cry, though she quickly reverted to her original boastful attitude.
He'd pushed too far. She was still a kid, and it really was none of his business in the first place. It was so sad to hear about. He didn't know exactly why, but somehow, she was in a situation where the social workers were trying to put her into a foster home. He had heard nightmares about that system, so he couldn't blame her for not wanting to go to one, even if they really were trying to help.
“Oh. I'm really sorry,” he apologized, looking down and using his foot to move around some dirt.
Clyde felt so bad about it; his suspicious nature had got the better of him. He was suddenly feeling the need to set things right. But how? Hmm... there was one thing he could think of. He was a bit hesitant about it at first. However, she didn't go to his school, and he probably wouldn't see her again. “If it makes you feel any bettah, I could tell you something I usually don't like people knowing.”
Yeah, she probably was going to die laughing if he told her, but she did observe some things earlier and it seemed like the fair thing to do.

As Clyde got closer to the other teens, he briefly glanced at his own had, which had pretty much stopped bleeding. The bite wasn't as bad as it looked, so he doubted he'd have to even get stitches. He'd gotten lucky there. Lennox, not so much.
“Heah's yo phone,” the age shifter said to Miles, holding it out for him to take back. It seemed he wanted his opinion on something there, but he wasn't sure why. He knew that Lennox's arm was mauled up fairly bad, thanks to those creepy dogs of Miles', but it wasn't as if he knew much about first aid. He turned to glance at Lennox's bitten arm. “Yeah, it looks bad, all right. I'm not a doctah. Really, we need to get an am-”
Clyde's jaw dropped when he saw Lennox's hand. On it was what appeared to be a dark, gaping wound. In it were some sharp, white objects. For a moment, he thought they were pieces of broken bones, but, taking a closer look, he could see that they more closely resembled fanged teeth.
“What the hell...?” Clyde blurted out before he could stop himself, his eyes huge with shock. Lennox had a mouth on his hand! That was... really... really... weird.

Clyde heard Elke insist that her sister was not real. Then, his eyes widened as she fell from the tree. There wasn't much he could do to keep her from hitting the ground. He knew it; sitting up there wasn't safe. At least the branch Elke was sitting on wasn't too high... wait, Elke was on the ground AND in the tree! There were two of her! Clyde couldn't help but show just a bit of shock for what he could see. So that's what she meant when she said her “sister” wasn't real. She could duplicate herself. That was a mutant power, wasn't it?
“That explains a lot. Didn't expect to see another mutant,” he commented, trying to not act too surprised. In reality, he had to remind himself that he was now in New York City, and there were a lot more mutants there than in a lot of other places. Despite being one himself and having met a couple of others, he still was not used to being around other mutants. Mostly, it was because mutations varied so much that he didn't know what to look for.
For a second, Clyde looked back and forth between both Elkes, trying to determine which one was real. He finally decided it was the one in the tree because she continued talking. Elke mentioned something about them melting after a day. That sounded like a messy way to go.
As she continued, it became even more evident that Elke hated school. She seemed a little young to be deciding that, but honestly, he was hiding that fact that he wasn't exactly the biggest fan of school, either. It wasn't the learning part that bothered him - that, he could handle. It was more of the environment that bothered him. Being smaller than his peers made life at his old school a living hell.
Elke's story about not being allow at school sounded a lot like bragging, though it shouldn't be something to be proud of. It sounded maybe a bit fabricated, but it wasn't impossible.
“Cawted off?” he echoed to himself. He wasn't sure what she meant by that. She couldn't have been referring to social workers, could she? Or expulsion? “What do you mean by that? Do the schools try to keep you out because you ah a mutant?” he asked for clarification. Hey, it was a possibility. Some people were anti-mutant enough to try to keep mutants away from any place, whether it be refusing to hire them for a firm or trying to find a way to get them expelled from school.

The run left Clyde a bit exhausted, and he had to pause for a while to catch his breath. Meanwhile, he could hear Elke boast about how they'd be able to take on several highschoolers. Sure, she had been in scraps... as if he was going to believe that. Luckily, he didn't see the guy anywhere nearby, so, for now, he should be safe.
While he was still catching his breath, Elke had managed to quickly scale one of the trees. From one of the branches, she was waving at him, trying to convince him to climb up as well. However, there was NO WAY he was getting up there. He was too old for climbing trees. Besides, it was dangerous. Slipping while climbing something like that was a hazard, and there was no telling if the branch would support his weight. Instead, he continued standing at the base of the tree and looking up at Elke.
The bossy way Elke treated her sister was a bit much, but referring to her as a clone was awfully strange and a bit appalling. “Why do you call yah sistah a clone?” he questioned. “I doubt she appreciates being called that.” Come to think of it, the twin ran off in the complete opposite direction, the guy possibly chasing after her. “Is she even going to be all right if that guy gets her?”
Even more, Clyde couldn't believe what she'd suggested. “I can't ditch school! It'd be truancy!” he exclaimed. He'd figured that Elke was a bit of a wild child based on the way she'd acted so far, but... that was quite much for a girl her age. Who was watching her? The fact was, she should be in school. He'd never gotten a reason that would explain why she was at the high school instead, so he figured he'd start there. “Why don't you tell me why you ah heah in the first place?” he asked, casting a suspicious look at her. “Do you even go to school? As in, elementary school?”

I like this idea. I could definitely picture some public officials doing this, and leaving the public to interpret whether those said officials are indeed mutant-friendly saints or just sneaky politicians taking advantage of the situation to bolster their image. It could lead to some debate between the different characters. I'd be readily willing to have Clyde react to something like this.

Miles was right. Only busy signals. Clyde certainly was no expert on how to provide first aid, or whatever was needed to help, and Miles had gone try to help Lennox, so all he could do was stay with her until help arrived. The good news was, he could hear sirens in the distance. Even better, it appeared she was stirring. That had to be a good sign.
“Move over! I'm a doctor!” he suddenly heard someone shout.
Clyde turned to see a middle-aged woman running over to them. Immediately, she got down on the ground to check on the girl. The age shifter hovered there for a second out of concern.
“Look kid, I know you want to help, but it's best you stay back,” she told him.
Obediently, Clyde backed off. The way she treated him bothered him, but he was a bit tired to even think of a comeback. Plus, she was probably better off in her charge. There were other things that needed to be done, anyways. He needed to find the stuff that feel and even more, get home and change out of those clothes. With a quick scan of the surrounding area, he spotted his backpack's contents littered on the ground somewhat near the bench where Miles and Lennox were.
Quickly, the age shifter jogged over there to pick up his books, papers, and other miscellaneous school supplies. Luckily, it seemed everything stayed in a small pile, so it didn't take him long to return them to his backpack.
With that done, he turned his attention to the other teens. He had no clue what they were talking about, though he suspected that it had something to do with Lennox's injured arm. From what he'd seen earlier, that guy seriously needed to go to the emergency room.
Since the ambulances were close by, there was no longer any need for a phone. He started to head for the bench, Miles' phone in hand, to return it. He wasn't close enough to see what exactly they were doing, but it seemed Lennox was letting Miles examine his arm.

For a moment, Clyde thought that the twin was going to do nothing, but as soon as Elke shouted something about a Plan D, her twin give him a kick in the fork. It took balls to... well... kick a guy that big in the balls. Admittedly, it was sort of funny to watch a teen that size double over in pain just from getting kicked by a little girl. However, that might not have been such a good idea. He was only mad because she'd eaten his food. Officially, he hadn't even done anything that would justify getting kicked like that. Now, once he recovered, he would be angrier than ever, and possibly more willing to use force. Worse yet, he was probably going to blame him, too.
The age shifter hesitated to move at first when Elke grabbed his arm and shouted at him to run, her sister already taking off in the other direction. Thinking about it, he could either run with her, or take his chances against the guy.
He was definitely going to choose run.
With his flight responses kicked in, he didn't make much of an effort to break away from Elke's grasp as she ran pulling him by the arm. The whole time, he didn't look behind him to see if the big teen was following. She seemed to be leading him outside to an area of the campus that was filled with trees. There were a lot of hiding places in there, but not as many people to stop the guy if he decided to do something. It was when they reached that place that he tried to get his arm back from her.
“That wasn't such a good idea. What if he gets his friends?” he pointed out in a serious tone. He could picture it – a group of guys, all around the same size as the one she ticked off, trying to hunt them down in revenge. What did he just get dragged into?
