The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Lumen listened intently as Paul described her experience. It sounded like she was worrying over nothing. Paul didnt sound scared recalling his vision and if it was private then she should be able to have some control. She didn't rule out needing to intimidate this Alister if he said something she didn't like. "Okay." she agreed. "It should be all right then."
She helped herself to a pastry and flipped her notebook open on the table. She crossed one leg across the other and started to make notes. She hummed to herself softly while she thought. She needed to go into this knowing what she wanted. She munched away on the pastries.
Soon she was finished with a pretty good list. She ripped the page from her notebook, folded it, and put it in her jacket pocket. It wasnt long before shed found herself a spot on the floor to sit and meditate. She liked meditating in Paul's place. It was so simple and clean the energy seemed to flow easily. The breathing came naturally. She found her center and concentrated. She was barley aware when she began to glow... but that was usually what happened when she focused her energy. Hopefully it wouldn't bother Paul.
20 Minutes later she stood up and gave a stretch. "There. No light show today!" she grinned. "Ready to go?"
Lumen's winding down most of her threads now, and will have a spot open! I still want her to get to know some more people she hasn't learned anything really about the mansion if someone from there wanted to hook up, she's also always looking to make connections for the plot
"Rex?" Lumen felt the colour drain from her face for a moment. Rex seemed to be some sort of intelligent thing all on his own. She'd heard of robot pets- but this was pushing it a little more than Lumen was willing to accept. What the heck was he made out of? She had a feeling there weren't batteries or a remote control involved. Her eyes darter back to the woman as she took her in fully for once. Her pace was steady and as long as she didn't stop to look down at her feet she didn't think she'd trip. Yes. She really was the woman from the news- but why hadn't Lumen noticed Rex before? Probably because she always had the TV on in the background...
"I don't think I noticed Rex before." she admitted trying to save a little face. "I'm a bit of a multi-tasker" she trudged onward starting to feel a little winded, a little light headed, and a little achey for some time alone. You know. Away from insanely fit red heads and their octopi pets.
"I'm from Ireland." she answered coolly turning her face back to the front concentrating on her breathing. That annoying little burning sensation was starting in the centre of her throat. The one that let her know the adrenaline phase was winding down and she was about to find it hard to breathe. She forced a grin. If this woman was in the news she might have some knowledge of the events around the MIA kids. Reporters often got to hits and leads well before the authorities. Back home she had many reporter friends who helped tip her off. "I'm working with the NYPD for the missing kids cases."
The woman seemed to slow her pace down just a tad and Lumen mentally shouted Hallelujah! She slowed her own and the burning in her throat subsided a little. "Do you find much of that story coming through your office? I see a lot in the paper but I haven't been here long enough to catch any news segments" Lumen was still trying to gauge just how much the public knew. The police would sometimes issue a press ban on these things to prevent hysteria and also protect the privacy of minors. But people knew something was up, especially with so many going missing.
OOC: we've been waiting a bit, so I'm going to skip Joe and he can post again as soon as he's ready. If something I put doesn't work, please feel free to PM and I'll fix it.
IC:
Lumen was more than relieved when she saw a certain face from earlier this week show up with a gun. Detective Jorge Cervantes. If there was one man she trusted to deal with this situation- it would certainly be him. She adjusted her weight a little and concentrated on spreading out her energy. She wasn't glowing, but the heat from her light was coursing through her and she hoped it was warming the poor guy she had in her lap.
She'd only met Jorge a few days earlier but he'd left her with a good impression. The fact that he was sent out- she had to wonder if they suspected this event to have something to do with the missing kids, or if Jorge was just the best man for a mutant-crime job. Either way, he was easy on the eyes.
Just then the creature turned to stare Jorge down. "Be careful Detective Cervantes!" she yelled. "He's already killed a woman, his tail is the dangerous part!"
Now that the creature was facing him she could indeed see how scaley it was. She doubted a gun would do much to harm him. So what would? She could try a blinding flash if they needed to get away quick.. but then this thing was still loose. She remembered then about that mutant school she wanted to investigate. She had to wonder what they'd do with a thing like this. Perhaps she'd find out tonight if Jorge was a mutant after all. She secretly prayed he was and that he had some kind of epic ass kicking power.
Ooc: I am so sorry for the delay, this week knocked the wind out of me! Hehe, I'll do my best to get a post out at least once a day from now on, promise! <3 Hopefully more!
IC: Lumen considered the things Paul was saying. "I guess I'll have to have my fortune told or something. I can't really go in there without a reason." she thought for a moment. "Perhaps they have mind reading capability. That would be bad. If they knew I was part of the investigation... do you think they could tell that from a reading?" she stumbled for a moment. She'd need a plan. A good cover story. Then again... why would she need to make something up? "I know.. I can ask them about my brother. It'll help me gauge a little of how specific their mutation is and give me a chance to observe them a bit." what had Paul said this young man's name was? Oh wait, he hadn't.
"It makes me a little uneasy." she admitted. "Where you nervous when you went? Afraid of what they might see? I just feel like I'm not going to get anywhere in this case unless I go and experience for myself. I'll have to suck it up I suppose." she wondered how personal the readings were and if it would be done in private or in front of Paul.
Either way, she needed to go. But Paul's question about breakfast made her want to delay just a little longer. "Actually, I could eat." she flashed him a 1000 kilowatt smile. "Let's do that first, while we eat maybe I'll make a list of what I want to try and accomplish here. Would it be weird to ask you if we could meditate before we leave? I just feel like a need a calm and clear mind before I do this." she looked up at him hopeful.
"I'll dress warmly. But my mutation tends to keep me a bit on the warm side anyway." she grinned. Something about distributing the power through her body always made her run a little warmer. Not too much warmer, but just enough to make a slight difference, and just enough to make a huge difference whenever she had a fever!
Paul left her to shower and she sat at the computer scrolling again through the Future Sight website. She didnt recognize anything or notice anything that really stood out. She wasn't a person very versed in the occult, wikka, or whatever it was these people were usually into. She was pretty ignorant of it all. That would clearly have to change if this was a focal point of the investigation. She wondered when the local library would be back open for the public.
>>Future Sight is an interesting place. There is a young man there with the ability to see your future as well as allow you to see the future. He's got something of a following with other people that want to try to change the world and help prevent bad things from happening. They seem like nice people but I don't know them all that well."
Said Paul re-emerging from the shower. He smelled nice and clean. He looked even better. She averted her eyes back to the screen. " Sounds like a mutation to me." she commented " Im not sure I believe in anything like psychics or magic now that we know so much of the science behind mutation. It gets you wondering about infamous people of history- perhaps they were all just mutants? Riori could see the future too. It's a wonder he didn't end up with his own following or something." he'd have to not be abducted for that to work.
>>>"You said they keep ending up in police reports? What sort of involvement?"
Hmm, classified information. How much should she tell him? On the one hand, she wasn't things to keep separate so he didn't feel any pressure or concern when it came to his own doings. On the other hand, she didn't know how deep the rabbit hole went with this one and in the long run if God forbid somewhere in the future he were interrogated- she didn't want him to be able to say much.
"It just seems to be a place the police keep checking out. Though, if this young man has misconceptions about leading a revolution or something I can see why they keep checking in. Vigilantes are still illegal despite what our mutant brethren seem to think." that was the best she could come up with. He'd probably know she was holding back but hopefully he'd have the sense to know it was for the best. Then, something clicked. "Have you been there before Paul?"
thankfully no one was hurt but my mother in law lost everything even precious family things like photo albums she's staying with family and I think we're going to try and do some fundraising to help her rebuild. Speaking of fundraising, my dad did a fair bit of that today taking part in a polar bear dip I was busy with that too. Behind on posting, hoping to catch back up.
After Monday I'll only be able to post on evenings and weekends, will be back to teaching! <3
Lumen was now on day 2 with Paul and things were going okay. She wasn't able to get the start on things yesterday that she wanted to. Being Christmas Day and all. She didnt think her leads would take her anywhere. Paul had gone for a run, she slept a little late, they enjoyed a few pleasant meals together and she'd spent most of the day researching online and writing on a thick pad of paper. She'd asked him questions here and there, engaged in small conversation... but mostly she'd been a zombie. The wind was still knocked out of her from Christmas Eve, she didn't even join Pual for a run- something she'd be changing soon.
She came out of his room having recently tidied it up and made the bed. She carried her belongings in her arms. "Your bedroom and bathroom are free!" she said unloading her things on the table. She plugged in the laptop and booted it up. "Thanks again," she hadn't meant to spend another night in his room, but she'd fallen asleep while reading earlier. "Sounds like the weather will be nice." she leaned over his shoulder to look at the newspaper.
"When you're finished your shower Paul, I was wondering if you could help me find a place..." she walked over to the now booted computer and brought up the webpage for Future Sight "It seems this place keeps ending up in the middle of police reports. Maybe you've been before or at least seen it? I think it would be valuable for my end of things if I went and got a feel for it myself. There's only so much photos can do for an investigator."
Lumen was ready to call it quits after that but before she knew it she and her new friend were being pulled back by some invisible force. She stared gaping at those around them wondering who or what could be doing this because it could only be a mutant. At least they were away from that thing and it's tail. She had pitied the creature, she wouldn't make that mistake again.
"Hey..." she stammered when they finally stopped moving, noticing the blood trickling from the man's nose. "You did that?" before he could reply he took a step and fell forward toward the ground, apparently fainting.
Lumen didn't let him. She caught him with surprisingly strong and stable arms. He had just moved all those people. Trying to move one person would probably kill Lumen, and here this guy just moved all those. She rolled him over on to his back and laid his head in her lap facing to the sky. She fished out a tissue and patted the blood away. "Come on guy, wake up. Not the time for a nap." she could tell he was breathing and hoped it was just a standard blackout. Hard to know these days with mutants.
So she sat like that with his head in her lap, trying to keep her hair from spilling in his face, and her arms crossed protectively across him. There was no running away now. Either the police showed up or a brawl was about to happen. Either way Lumen couldn't run like she would have liked. She was fit, but not fit enough to carry a fully grown man to safety.
Lumen was more than happy to take the couch and just crash. But Paul didn't give her a choice, he was gone in a flash and back even quicker. She gave him a lopsided sleepy smile. "Okay, just this once. But I am perfectly fine with taking the couch for the rest unless you successfully woo me in the week I'm here." she teased.
She rolled her eyes at the funny french pet name, but it did make her feel nice inside. At the very least, she had a friend in Paul. Maybe a friend with benefits if he was lucky, but it was obvious a friend none-the-less.
She meandered into the bedroom and sat her things down on the lone night stand. The bedroom was just as sparse as the rest of the place but she sunk into the duvet when she sat on the bed. She'd just put new clean clothes on but now she couldn't understand why. She slid them off into a neat pile on the floor and crept into the bed in her panties and bra. She laid there unmoving letting the weight of the blankets comfort her as well as the dark of the room. There was no sound but the smell of what was below in the bakery still met her nose. She was sure she'd wake up wide eyed in a few hours thanks to whatever they were cooking up.
She thought about everything that happened this week, analysing every detail. She decided the trip up must have come from the warehouse situation downtown. Only one of the men had been arrested and obviously not the key player if the next was after her. All the damn fault of a flash. She'd be certain her next camera had a function lock to prevent those things from happening.
Even though she was in Paul's bed and it smelled of Paul, her mind drifted back as it always did before sleep to Riori. She pictured themselves as children and she curled up into a ball on her side with her hands inside her knees for warmth. Riori would know what to do. At 6 he could be far more colder and calculating than she could 20 years later. 20 years, it had really been 20 years. The little girl inside her wanted to cry. She was fooling herself. Nothing could quench the gaping hole in her center that was her other half.
Finally fatigue over took her, and Lumen succumbed to sleep . For once she had a dreamless night.
>>"Fine, you're welcome to stay here. It might even do me some good to actually have someone around the house to chat with on occasion.
Lumen smiled, a genuine smile. Nothing forced. She felt the tension in her shoulders lessen just a little and the touch of anxiety that had been bothering her lightened. She had a safe place to sleep tonight. This morning. Whatever. She'd need to fix that sleep schedule before it got too crazy.
"Well, thank you." she replied. "Don't let me twist your arm."
He got up and stood closer to her for a moment as if to emphasize his point. >>>"Just remember one thing for me. If you think you need any help and for some reason you don't feel like using the police, ask me. I have my connections in the underworld, I know the streets, and I've got the experience to be pretty good in a fight. If you need help, just ask."
"I'll keep that in mind." did he mean underworld crime or underworld death? Maybe when it was more appropriate she'd ask him what happened when he died. Or maybe she was too chicken shit to want to know. "Im pretty good at taking care of myself, just like you, it's how we survive." she put her hands on her hips.
>>>"And since that's out of the way... there's one thing I've been wanting to do tonight."
Before she could say boo Paul was leaning down toward her face and suddenly things slowed down and she knew what was happening and where it could go. Did she want it to go that way? A big part of her body and libido said yes, she really really did, while a small part of that body cried no, really really tired. Her mind was alert and aware weighing the pros and cons. Her heart. Her heart was of Riori. Could a kiss and something more from Paul possibly quench that?... well.. that was the point of trying after all wasnt it? The whole reason for the date? Could Paul replace Riori for her or at least blot him out for a while? She wouldn't know if she didn't try.
She held her fingers up to stop Paul mid air and looked directly into his eyes while his lips hit her hand. "You get one. For right now. I ain't easy... but I have fun too. " She gave a mischievous you're-only-getting-a-kiss-but-it's-going-to-kick-ass kinda grin. The she pulled her hand away and stood up on tip toes to kiss him long and hard. She might have even ended with a daring bite to his lower lip just to prove her point and help him remember it was a good thing she was staying here despite his comfort for being alone.
She pulled back after what seemed like a few minutes but could have possibly been a few seconds, breathless. "Okay lover boy. Some of us may have been reborn again but others need some sleep before the sun comes up."
