The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

>> "Ah'm alright, it's jist jitters. Ah dornt exactly have clothes like this in mah closet…Ah'll be fine though, nae worries."
“Oookay,” Akshay said a little suspiciously as he watched the young woman turn away and return to stuffing her items away into her locker.
He had a feeling that there was something wrong with her that delved a little deeper than just nervousness around wearing the costume (though she was exceptionally blushy when she first decided on wearing it). No the matter seemed to be deeper than that but he was not going to call her on her. He cared, he really did, but he was not a nosy man. He would simply let her feel whatever it was she needed to feel and if she wanted to talk then that was completely fine. He would talk to her but only if she actually came to him first.
A small nod, he smiled encouragingly at her as he began to lead the way back into the front part of the store. They still had a good ten minutes before the hungry masses could even be allowed into the store. They would just have to spend the time in silence and made sure everything was immaculate for the crowd.
He sighed as he stretched, making his chainmail shirt shimmer even more in the light. While Rebecca busied herself with making sure that the register had enough money, Akshay had turned away to start dusting some of the shelves when Rebecca tiny voice rang out in the empty store…
>> "Um, Akshay? Maybe there is something on mah mind, if Ah'm being honest."
He arched a brow as he turned slowly back towards Rebecca. She really did look as if something extremely heavy was weighing in down on her head.
He nodded with a slightly concerned look but gave her a gentle smile at the same time.
“Is it something you want to talk about?” he said warmheartedly. “If so, I do make a good listener.”

>> "Sorry, coming!"
Akshay sighed in relief. For a second he was worried that maybe she was going to have second thoughts about wearing the costume. She didn’t seem all too keen on the idea in the first place. It was not really a deal breaker if she didn’t wear the costume. He wouldn’t fire her but it was part of their policy to wear the costumes. Not a lot of the girls’ like the idea either but most either went through with it or found a super heroine that was not too revealing. After all, not every female hero wore a two piece bikini to run out in the world and fight crime.
…
Shame though. Sometimes they could really off the plausibility of that.
But Akshay shook the thoughts away as he peeked in to see that the bathroom door was closed. He wanted to make sure that Rebecca was indeed okay. After all, he was technically her supervisor and if she was really uncomfortable then he wanted her to know that she could tell him. He did not like for anyone who worked under him to feel like they couldn’t turn to him.
Hands on his hips, Akshay glanced outside at the clock. Ten minutes before they had to officially open and from the sounds of it Rebecca seemed to be close to finishing getting dressed. He sighed in relief. They were going to have plenty of time.
Once the door opened he grinned when he saw that she was indeed wearing the costume. And he was actually pretty impressed by the choice! Miracle Lass! The absolute perfect costume for her. He always found the mask a bit humorous but it was a classic! Miracle Lass wasn’t Miracle Lass without it! Yes, it looked as if she absolutely fit the part perfectly.
>> "Alright, Ah guess Ah'm as ready as Ah can be."
Akshay tilted his head. There was something in the tone of Rebecca’s voice that he immediately caught onto, as well as her body language with that curt little nod. Instantly his caring-o-meter went off as he watched her momentarily put her clothes into the locker.
“Rebecca?” he asked in his most compassionate-boss-voice possible. “Is everything okay with you? You seem…little spacey.”

>> "Sure, I could do that."
“Sweet! I shall look forward to it,” Akshay added with a grin.
He finished the last of the transactions as he started to consider what he could do for this possible promotion. He was absolutely happy to do it. Not only would he get to meet interesting mutants but he would be able to get his comic book out there to a populace that would have loved to have read it! He didn’t know how many of the students at this school had already read it, but either way his comic was getting some type of exposure!
There could not have been a more perfect plan! The more the young wordsmith actually thought about it, the more that he was getting excited to do it. Now he simply could not wait.
Once the last transaction was done, Akshay watched as the crew began to gather up their belongings and made ready to leave. Before long he was hearing their normal goodbyes and announcements to see him later. He smirked as he waved them all their own goodbyes. They were his regulars so he knew that he would see them again.
Along with him, Chase was pulled away.
>> "Thank you, Akshay, See you around?"
“Of course!” Akshay said with a wide grin. “I know that I’m not going anywhere!” he added with a quick chuckle. “Enjoy those comics and come back to learn more!”
Akshay sighed happily as he watched them go and turned back to his desk. It was a good day today…

Crowd outside of One Comic to Rule Them All was a bustling collection of comics fans that range from the old to the young, the rich to the poor, the in-shape and the “I’m-spending-my-whole-life-in-my-parent’s-basement-eating-nachos-and-blogging-about-the-downfall-of-American-comics”-shaped. It was needless to say that there was a variety of people there but the one connecting truth between all of them was that they all wanted free comics.
It was Promotional Day here at the comic shop so that meant that all the staff needed to dress up in order to share in the festivities. Akshay…had ABSOLUTELY no problem with this! The man loved comic books so much that he LOVED to dress up in anything that was comic book related. Comic-Con, Convergence, everyday where! The man certainly did love his costumes. That was why when his boss had first told him that he wanted to have the staff dress up for promotional days that Akshay had actually leapt up out of his seat with a victorious “Yessssssssss!!!”
For this Promotional Day, Akshay had chosen a KILLER of a character to have a costume for. It took him weeks but he finally tracked down someone who could custom make the costume for him. Five days and $150 later, and Akshay was on cloud NINE when he was presented with it.
Now, seating behind his counter with a professional blonde wig on, Akshay was dressed as one of his most favorite and underappreciated characters in the entire BC universe…
Clearly one of the most underrated characters in the entire BC universe. Carthur Aurry was just a simple fisherman who, one day, caught a magical fish that begged him to have his life spared Carthur of course spared him and in doing so was giving all the powers of the mighty goldfish and charged with protecting the Seven Seas from destruction! Easy for a man with the powers of swimming at the speed goldfish, easy death but instant reincarnation, and the ability to communicate with goldfish and ONLY goldfish!
Yes…Captain Goldfish was force to be reckoned with and now he was standing in One Comic to Rule Them All.
Akshay adjusted the green tights he wore, but what was most spectacular was the shimmering, “gold” mail shirt that he wore over his torso. It caught the light and reflected with a iridescence that was similar to that of goldfish scales. It cost a hefty penny to make the top part of this outfit but it was more than worth it. He absolutely loved it and knew exactly who he was going to go to for ALL of his costume needs from now on.
Sitting in the closed store, Akshay looked up to the clock. There was still 15 minutes between the store officially opened. A glance at the door and he could already see through the glass that the crowd outside was quite large. This was obviously going to be a busy day. But another glance and Akshay had to wonder…
“Where the hell are you, Rebecca?” he mumbled to himself. She had arrived on time and everything and slipped into the bathroom to change into her costume. He was surprised that she was still not out though. Moving away from his counter he leaned towards the backroom but did not go in, just in case she was still in the middle of being undressed. “Yo, Rebecca! Did you fall in? You okay?” he asked with genuine concern mixed with immediacy. 12 minutes before the store opened and they needed to be ready…

Akshay moved around a couple things as he fished into his backpack. He had promised Emerald that he would show her the art work that was apparently and accidentally inspired by her. Sadly he had forgotten to clean out his backpack so he needed to move a couple of things around: books, comic books, new drawing pad, Emerald’s rose. It was only when he finally moved the last object did he see the original character concept that he had drawn for Slaagathor. It was inked and painted by his own hand so he was just aching to show it to her.
After all, that’s actually what got him this date, right?
>> "Ready? Ready for what…I won't be too harsh of a critic, I promise."
He smirked as he sat up, holding the drawing carefully to his chest so that it could not be peeked at prematurely.
“Well…I DID promise to show you the drawing that I’ve been telling you about. You reminded me so much of that character,” he said with a little grin.
It was true. When he went looking for his original character concept and found it, he was indeed shocked by how much she did look like Emerald (minus the skimpy, fantasy warrior outfit). But there was just something about the face and the body that made him actually see Emerald whenever he looked at it. That was why he just had to show her. He didn’t know if he just picked up on some psychic waves when he was creating her or if she really just stepped off the page, but it was not something that he could keep to himself.
“Okay,” he finally said. “Remember, you promised to not criticize too harshly.”
With that he presented the drawing across the table for her to take and examine at her leisure. Nervously he sat there, watched her for her reaction. He hoped she didn’t think he was some perv for the rather revealing drawing. To be honest, that was just the style of the times. But he waited patiently…until he finally just asked a little meekly...

>> "It's more like a masterful hunter studying her prey."
Akshay blinked before a smile appeared on his face. The flirtation was not hard to miss. Akshay actually appreciated it a lot. This had to go down in the annuals of his history because this had to be the first time, ever, that he was not the person to initiate the first flirt. Sure, their first meeting he paid her several compliments but that was not really an accurate gauge of Akshay’s flirtation. He usually saved that for the first date.
Surprisingly, though, Emerald actually beat him to it. He could only grin as he watched the young redhead, listening that wag of her tail. She really was something else.
“Careful,” he chuckled. “Sometimes the hunter can find herself being studying just as intently...”
This...was a lot of fun...
Their waitress and come to ask for their orders. In a most gentlemanly manner, he let Emerald go first. He really and truly hoped that she was not going to hold back just because she had agreed to let him pay for half…
>> "I'll have the Rib eye, medium rare please, 2 baked potato's as sides and a water to drink."
Nope…definitely not hold back.
He smirked as he then turned to the waitress and flashed her a friendly smile.
“Rib eye, also medium rare, with the mashed potatoes and green beans,” he said as he handed the menu over. “And lemonade, please.”
The waitress dutifully jotted down their orders and moved away in order to get their orders into the kitchen. Once she was gone, Akshay turned back to Emerald. She really was a fascinating woman. And she was ACTUALLY flirting with him! HIM! He never would have thought that someone as attractive and interesting as her would ever do so.
A smirk as he took a breath, Akshay glanced down to his backpack before he raised his gaze up to meet Emerald’s again.
“So…are you ready?” he asked as he unzipped the bag. “And promise not to be too harsh of critic?”

>> “That’d be really cool,”
Akshay had completed the rest of the of the kids transactions. They had all their usual comics, the one’s that he knew that they always came here to buy. Some of them were quite predictable with the choices in series that they were never going to stop buying. There was a surprise or two but Akshay was still on cloud nine thinking about going to that school. A school for mutants, a school with people who had abilities that inspired artists like him every day. He simply could not wait to go there.
After he handed over the last of the purchases in exchange for money, Akshay sighed as he had another successful sale. He truly and deeply did love this job.
He grinned as the kids began to spread away from his counter, reading their purchases and talking amongst themselves. It was obvious that they were slowly getting ready to leave. But even as they started to, Akshay turned his eyes back to Chase. It was only then that he noticed the boy’s eyes changing colors. So…he must have been a mutant!
Akshay loved to meet mutants!
He smirked as he nodded to the little man.
“Hey, Chase,” he beamed joyously. “When I go there, you think you could give me the grand tour? I would be eternally in your debt. Maybe I’ll pay you with another free comic.”

It was weird for Akshay to tell that story. He never did. Not because he was embarrassed by it but because he did not want someone to make fun of him for it. For such a long time he held that memory in a special part of his heart because it really was the turning point for his life. Bouncing around from foster home to foster home can do that for a child, make them feel as if something is wrong with them to have been abandoned in such a way. He didn’t want that memory tarnished by someone who simply did not understand.
But as he raised his eyes to Emerald, he actually smirked a little. She did not have the look of someone who didn’t understand. Instead she seemed to have this look of compassion that he simply could not ignore. It was the type of look that he had not received in a long time. And it felt wonderful.
>> "Looks like you grew up into a great person because of that and you managed to become a popular comic book artist, I'm glad you told me about all that, I had a feeling that interview you gave to that one comic magazine was wrong"
He tilted his head curiously. He almost would not have caught the quick remark if he had not been paying attention. But he was. Interview? She had actually READ one of his interviews? But it did not seem like she knew who he was prior. How on earth…?
>> "I may have told my comic crazy little sister about you and she sent me an article that had your name on it. I figured there was more to your comic loving self than what you gave there. I like this version of the story a lot better."
At this…Akshay just had to laugh. He chuckled and he shook his head. That was definitely a smart move on her part. Part of him began to wonder if he had done the same thing if the situation were reversed. Heh, of course he would have. She was not the only one that liked to do research. Unfortunately he had just never thought about that for this date.
But, he was happy that she had pulled it off. He pretended to bow and tip his hat to her.
“I am impressed. That’s a good way to know that someone is not BSing you,” he said with a chuckle.
But before their conversation could continue any further, a peppy waitress appeared, wearing a black apron. She smiled wide as she looked between the two of them.
“Hello there! Welcome to Gallagher’s! Have you all decided what you’re in the mood for today?” she asked as she turned her attention to Akshay.
The young wordsmith simply smirked as he nodded to Emerald. “Oh please, ladies’ first.”

The black, spandex-stretched meatball that made up Darth Newman strolled down the aisles with a confident air that made Akshay want to lurch. The rival comic shop worker had such an arrogant tone to his voice as he held up a wad of green cash, showing that he was obviously not joking about his bid. Though Akshay knew the real reason behind it. He was not simply trying to prove that but he was showing off, trying to show that he could outbid absolutely anyone who dared to try to oppose him.
It was a scare tactic, nothing more. Unfortunately Akshay did not have the funds to call his bluff. The highest he would have been able to go was $500 and he was going to announce that and outbid Samus if it had not been for Newman. Sadly that pompous blow hard had far too much money than he should have had.
Akshay ground his teeth. The very idea that Newman was going to get away with this simply had him livid. He hated it when the man won anything because they he lorded over the rest of the community for months and months, sometimes going into years. It simply was not right that a person like him could get all the prizes.
Akshay looked around the room at the rest of the gathered group. There had to be someone, anyone that could outbid the man. Unfortunately from the looks of it the crowd that was gathered here today he doubted that any of them could go that high. Hell, the majority of them probably only had the money that their mother’s gave them as allowance and birthday money. Unless they had been saving up for years, there was no way that they were going to be able to outbid Newman.
“$700! Wooow!! I have $700 going once…twice…”
It was not right. Akshay knew it. But what could he d—
“$1000!!!” a lyrical voice called out from next to him.
Akshay blinked as he turned with wide, amazed eyes. He knew that voice, he had been conversing with the owner of it the whole time! Turning, he watched as Samus stood up, her bid grinding the entire audience into a shocked halt. Even Newman looked flabbergasted as he stared at Samus before he began to fumble and recount the money in his hand. He was obviously not pleased with the number and spun around, trying to reach his wallet that was tucked into the back of his belt.
But he was too late.
“$1000!!” the auctioneer announced with surprise and pleasure. He just chuckled as he looked around the vast room and saw everyone still in shock. “I…think that…that we have a winner, folks. $100 once, twice…and SOLD! To the beautiful, young, Samus Aran!”
“NOOOOOO!!!!” Newman shrieked as he fell to his knees on the aisle.
Akshay sat in shock and awe as he clapped for the winner.
“Samus! Wow….how…?” he gasped.
Samus just grinned and winked. “Hey, they pay us booth babes a lot, they have to. After all, not just any girl will stand working with nerds like Newman Ledge…”

Akshay leaned back in his chair nonchalantly as he smiled and waited to hear what Emerald was going to ask. He really was an open book but there were certain subjects that he was rather sensitive about. But he really did not want to dwell on things like that today. Not today. He was having a pretty splendid date with Emerald so far. He could only hope that the trend would continue. Who knows, he figured he asked her some pretty simple questions to start off. Maybe she too would start off that way?
One could only hope.
Well, he left himself open to her. He did say that he was an open book and she could ask anything. Therefore…the ball was in her court.
>> "Alright, what got you into drawing comic books in the first place? "
He smiled, wide. Thank god she started with an easy question. It was pretty simple for him to answer. People always wanted to know why artists did what they did. He got asked questions like that plenty of times, especially when Slaagathor first came out. It became one of those standard questions that he could robotically answer.
But…one look at Emerald and he knew that he could not answer her in that same manner. She was not some fan he was trying to please, or a reporter from Wizard Magazine looking for standard answers. No. She was much, much, much more than that.
He smirked as she toyed with the menu in his hands before he focused on her.
“Comic books saved my life,” he said with a smile. “You see, I’m from Buffalo…at least I think I am. When I was a baby I was abandoned at a fire station. For years, I lived in foster home after foster home. I…always wanted to have regular parents like everyone else, but…it just was not in the cards. I started to think I was just not wanted, that there was something wrong with me. After all…who would abandon their kid unless something was wrong with them, right?” he shrugged. But he smiled as he continued. “Then one of my foster fathers introduced me to comic books. Namely a character by the name of Wonderman. See, he was abandoned, like me, but he was an alien left Earth. Being an alien he had all these superpowers that he used for good.” He sighed, chuckling silently to himself. “That was when my foster dad at the time put his arm around me and said ‘See, son? Maybe you’ll be meant for great things too.’” Akshay said as he lifted his gaze to meet Emerald’s. “After that…I was hooked…”

Akshay was already thinking about what he could possibly do for the promotion. He knew that the store would love the free publicity and Akshay had no problem giving away his comic book for free. That was just the type of guy that he was. He reveled in gaining an audience through absolutely any means necessary. After all it was his comic so he could give it away whenever he pleased. Besides only the first issue would be free. If they wanted to know how the story continued then they would just need to buy the rest of the series.
Chase took the comics back and cradled them to his chest. Akshay was really liking this idea now, all he needed was to know the name of this school.
>> "Xavier's Sister School,"
He blinked as he tilted his head.
>> "It's that mutant school,"
What. Were. The. ODDS?! He grinned, wide, at the idea of it. He remembered when Sveta was here so long ago, she had mentioned the EXACT same school. He had sworn that he was going to go and check it out but he never gotten the chance to do it. A school full a mutants! That was so totally wicked that he was in love with the concept. Part of him was actually a little sad that he was already done with his education because he would have LOVED to have gone there.
He just smirked as he nodded to the group while they gave him directions. Quickly he had jotted them down onto a notepad.
“Then I will DEFINITELY be there,” he said with a grin. “I’ve heard a lot about the place but I’ve yet to go. Sounds like it’ll be a blast!” he said with an approving nod as he began to ring up the rest of the kids that were milling around his counter with their own purchases.

>> "It's hard a lot of times, with the whole wolf thing, cause I'm used to everything being portrayed in body language, when you are on two legs though, it's with words more than anything else. Not to mention that certain things in the wolf world are way different than they are in the two legged world."
Akshay could only imagine the kind of shift that would be to get used to. To change from being a wolf, which relies primarily on body language for communication, to being a human in which voice is everything, that had to be tough. Akshay had double respect for the wolf-girl for being able to balance the two things so successfully. He doubted that many people would be able to. He doubted HE would be able to.
But it was nice to know that someone knew how to travel that line.
The conversation shifted away from the moral dilemmas of man being unable to accept his wild nature, and instead turned that of food. Akshay had been eyeing that ribeye on the menu ever since he saw it and just knew that that was what he was going to have.
>> "Oh yeah food! I think I will probably have the Rib Eye too, but rare..or maybe a little bit cooked, "
He grinned and nodded.
“Excellent choice,” he beamed.
>> "What about you? You keep asking more and more about me and yet I don't hear a peep for you. Now how is that fair?"
A smirk grew on his face and suddenly he began to feel inexplicably shy. Akshay never really cared to talk bout himself. Not because it was embarrassing or anything, but simply because he was not interesting. His life had been pretty uneventful except for when his powers developed. And that was clearly nothing to go ape about. They were not as cool or useful as Emerald’s. Therefore he tended to keep that part about him a secret.
But the wordsmith could only shrug as he smiled a little slyly.
“Not fair at all,” he grinned. “My life isn’t too exciting. It’s an open book though. So…ask away. I’ll answer anything.”

“$50!”
“$75!!”
“$125!!”
“$175!”
Akshay blinked as he turned to looked at Samus. Amongst the cacophony of the bidding, her voiced rang the most clear and sounded out through the din of the auditorium. It was obvious that everyone was out for blood right now. No one was going to back down and that same went for himself and Samus. Despite their attraction to one another, she was obviously not going to take it easy on him. The knowledge of that only make the young Wordsmith grin.
Samus seemed to feel his eyes on her as she momentarily turned her attention away from the auction to look at him. When she confirmed that he was indeed watching her, she blushed but grinned as she turned her shy expression back to the auctioneer.
“$300! I have $300 dollars now! Going once…going twice…”
“$450!!” Samus suddenly yelled out and put everyone in the auction to a dead stop. So far that seemed like it was the highest bid of the day.
“I have $450! $450 going once! Twice! Aaaaand congra—“
“$700!!” a voice, a familiar one, bellowed out from the back of the room.
Akshay turned and craned his neck to see who it was. For a moment he could not identify the speaker that ground everyone’s bids to a halt. But the wordsmith soon heard the stomping steps of heavy feet, as well as the mechanical breathing that accompanied it. Down the aisle Akshay saw the mass of black squeezed tightly around a far too ample body, the tiny voice alterer attached to the chest, and swirling black cloak that was affixed to it. He could only shake his head as he narrowed his eyes.
