The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Gawd, it was going to be another long night. Ever since Akshay had taken over the ownership of One Comic to Rule Them All, he was having an absolute blast. He fought hard to make the shop work, to keep it the way it always was and to still make it a viable business. It was hard, honest work and he loved every second of it. Every second…except for nights like tonight. Tonight was an inventory night which meant that he had to go in through every single item in his shop to make sure that he was up to stock on everything. It was going to be a long night.
Normally he always had one of the other workers at least help him so that he would not have to spend the night. Sadly, he couldn’t find the help this time; people were busy, spending time with girlfriends, blah, blah! All just excuses!
So, not Akshay Malik was walking back from the around the corner, toting a bag of fresh Chinese food to keep his stomach full and his mind focused. It was going to be a lonely night but at least he was going to get a lot of work down.
The sun was low on the horizon, which meant that in a couple of hours, night would befall them. The setting sun peeked in through the buildings, illuminating alleys and briefly shooing away the darkness that tended to settle there. As the lanky, wordsmith passed one, he paused when he heard the sounds of giggling and click of something odd…almost like a lighter.
He tilted his head and turned to peer down the alley. It looked normal; just like any other alley in this city—garbage strewn, puddles of questionable liquid, faded and/or ripped posters, a gaggle of teens leaning over something covered in firecrackers and clicking a lighter…
…wait…what was that last one?
He blinked as he fully turned and peered closely. On the ground of the alley, with gleaming red firecrackers duct taped all around it, was what looked like a little stone statue. He shook his head as he peered at it. What is wrong with these tweens these days? They just loved to make things explode or fall in love with sparkly vampires! Insanity!
Well, the young wordsmith would have just let it go and decide to not get involved…until he clearly saw what the statue was…a goblin. His jaw nearly dropped to the ground. The statue had such impressive detail about it that he could only wonder who the artist was. Immediately it made him salivate because it was such a statue that he would love to display it in his shop.
Click!
Instantly he saw the flame ignite on the lighter and Akshay knew he had to act. He couldn’t let them do this so such a piece of majesty! The kids grinned and cheered as one of them began to kneel down, getting ready to light the fuse that would light all the firecrackers to produce one massive bang. Oh they were not going to get away with that!
“Hey!!!” Akshay shouted. He ground his teeth as he suddenly charged down the alley. “Hey!! Get out of here! Go on!!”

It was a hot day. The sun was high in the middle of the afternoon, casting its light across the canopy of green that was Central Park. The trees loomed high above, breaking the light into a patches here and there but offering a vast amount of shade. It was this shade that people were currently utilizing in order escape the blazing heat of direct sunlight. All around, people were gathered amongst the roots of trees, laughing, talking, sharing a drink or just lounging under the cool air of the shade. Amongst these people was on intrepid and (he thinks) devastatingly handsome comic artist—Akshay Malik.
Akshay sighed as he opened his bottle of Cepsi-Pola (he liked off-brand things) and took a long sip of the icy, carbonized drink. A satisfied sigh fell from his lips as he set the drink into the icy nestled in his miniature cooler. He had his solo-picnic all set up and ready. Sadly Emerald couldn’t see him today so he would make do with his alone time.
Besides, he could have always used more practice with his drawing. A true artist never mastered his craft so there was always more to learn.
Back against his tree, Akshay sighed as he pulled his sketchbook out of his backpack and fished around until he found his box of drawing pencils. Once that had those in hand, he settled in and began to watch the various people throughout the park. He had to chuckle and think back that this was how he and Emerald met. He wondered if another life changing person would walk into his life today?
Hah, what would the odds be of that?
He chuckled and shook his head as he caught sight of a random person and began to sketch him out on his crisp, white paper. The scratches of his pencil danced in his ears as he drew…and what a lovely sound it was…

It was madness. That was really the only way to describe the mess that was going on inside of what was left of Xavier’s Sister School. Walls were broken in, doors had been smashed open, furniture was strewn about with impunity. The screams that echoed through the halls and the smell of blood and death in the air were sickening, but it was not something that Akshay Malik was going to shy away from. Not right now, not ever again. He was a part of the line; the line that had to hold back the invaders and keep those hidden inside the recesses of the school safe.
It was his job. And, even as he stared out across the masses and the realization that this was not something he was going to walk away from, Akshay intended to do his job.
A glance and he saw Mirror fighting hard to maintain the staircase. Arrows flew like a rain of barbs from the sky. Though the two of them never saw eye to eye, especially concerning one wolf-like mutant, at this time they were comrades. Differences were put aside for the greater good; the school would be defended at the cost of their own lives if need be.
More fought with them, but Akshay had little time to keep track of them. The hordes flooded in and Akshay had to focus on holding the line.
A particularly brutish looking individual charged; muscles gleaming, veins pulsating, mouth frothing over with foam. He was a mad dog, a mad dog that needed to be put down.
In one hand, Akshay Malik, dressed as The Wordsmith, carried the word “SWORD,” while in the other, he carried “SHIELD”. The man ran forward and Akshay met him face to face. A swipe of one word and then the crash of another, the man screeched and clawed at his own eyes. Shards of words were embedded but quickly disappeared, leaving bleeding wounds. As he was distracted, Akshay kicked, hard, into the man’s stomach and sent him reeling into the ground.
One down…and only dozens to go.
Akshay fought hard. He dodged around arrows and other explosions of powers while he smashed word after word into his attackers. People fell to his feet but not without getting in a few blows of their own. Akshay cried out but he never once stopped fighting. By the time he began to wind down with exhaustion, the young comic fan was covered in burns, cuts, and he was sure that he could see a splinter of bone sticking somewhere out of his arm. His left eye had also stopped working but that was only because he didn’t guard his flank. That goodness that Mirror was there with another notched arrow or it would have been worse. But, despite all his wounds, he fought on.
By the time the last and fatal wound was dealt, his attacker unknown, Akshay fell to his knees. The world shimmered in bright and darkness before he finally fell forward, barely holding himself up on the word “EMERALD” he had propped against the ground. He shook as the cold crept over his body and the muscle shaking began to rip throughout his body.
His world dimmed and he looked up just in time to see a flash of red hair and, what sounded like the muffled voice of someone calling his name. He was drifting but the young Wordsmith had to grin. He did it, they all did it…they held the line…

Wow…that had to be sacrilege or something, right? He just friendzoned a Goddess! Though he didn’t know in what particular scripture or book he would find such a rule but he had a feeling that it was true. Who actually did that? Who, when presented with a very beautiful goddess (and who wanted absolutely no strings attached!!), would say “No” to her? Akshay Malik would tell you “who”, a man in a happy and stable relationship! Sure he and Emerald had not reached…you know…that level of their relationship, but still!
The man was not such a complete and utter scumbag who would attempt to justify sleeping with another woman. That was just not his way.
But still, that did not mean he could not be nice to the young goddess. She seemed sweet enough, and she definitely needed a little bit a grounding, but he was only too happy to offer her a friendly hand (even though she already eight!).
Thankfully, she seemed to take his words to heart and did not push the issue of sleeping with her much farther.
>> "I look forward to meeting you again, then, Akshay Malik…Next time you visit, bring your chosen with you. Maybe I will like her too."
He beamed. That sounded more friendly…he hoped.
He nodded as he bid his goodbye to her; more than likely there were probably more worshippers who wanted to offer her their prayers. Even if she was just a mutant, she did have a job to upkeep.
“Good bye, Mahadevi,” he said with a friendly grin. “I’ll be sure to do that.” He turned to go but paused as he snapped his finger. “I almost forgot,” he said as he slipped his hand into his wallet and pulled out a small business card. A wide smile and he handed it over to her. “That is my business card to my comic shop. Maybe you will grace it with your presence one day?” Once she took the card, Akshay smiled again and waved as he left the room.

Akshay was still flabbergasted. This had to be the most direct any woman has ever been with him without him having initiated anything. It really was probably the most flattered he’d been in a LONG time. And, if, you know, this happened just a few months earlier, Akshay probably would have been quick to jump onto the bandwagon! After all, really, who says no to a self-proclaimed goddess? Especially one as pretty as this young woman here?
But Akshay such a scuzbag. Instead, he just blushed and tried to remember that he did the right thing. He told the woman no so he was free of her attentions. Right?
>> "I did not say I would keep you…I am not allowed to marry mortal men. But I would take you to my bed. As a compliment to you, and your chosen."
Blink.
Yeah, he seriously needed to join this religion! Ahem! Akshay mentally shook that thought away as she tried to think of what to say next. His throat had clamped shut and it felt like he had not blinked in a little while but at least he was still retaining his consciousness! He was not going to lose his resolve right now. He cared about Emerald too mu—
EMERALD! That was her name! Mentally he sighed in relief.
A warm smile on his face, one that exuded how flattered he was, Akshay took a steady breath before he replied.
“I…I’m NOT[/b] entirely sure she would be that flattered, but it is a lovely offer nonetheless,”[/color] he beamed. But he held out his hand for her to shake. “But…maybe we can at least be friends? I know a lot about the city, I can show you around if you ever need guide.”

Akshay had fully intended to make his exit after his last statement. After all, what else was there really to say? He really did believe that she was little more than a mutant who got lumped in with something that was not entirely correct: a mutant mistaken for a goddess. Granted she was pretty and she had an elegance about her that, when mixed with her mutation, would make one think that she was a goddess (especially considering where she was born), but Akshay was not swayed to think that she was a living, breathing, goddess.
Still though, he did offer her that respect that she was used to. He was skeptical, but that did not mean that he needed to disrespect her or anything like that. It was obvious that she was used to a certain way of life so who was he to rock that boat?
The man was nice, exuded his kindness, and made ready to leave.
But…before he could even make a gesture of goodbye, the woman stood up. She definitely had the graceful movements down to a T as she stood up and slowly made her way down the steps until she was standing before him. Akshay was a little unsure of what to do right now so he remained silent as the young woman, whose arms continued to sway and move with a gentleness that reminded him of a soft, summer breeze.
He titled his head, suddenly, as she carefully placed one of her hands underneath his chin and turned his head. Akshay…was really not used to being manhandled in such a way but he did not immediately pull himself away from her grasp either. Might have been rude. Besides, maybe she was just curious about him?
>> "You are a kind soul, Akshay Malik…I would have you as a lover."
Jaw.
Floor.
Collide.
Akshay was completed at a loss for a second there as his brain tried to wrap around exactly what this woman was saying to him. Did this goddess…really just proposition him right now? He blinked once…twice…then a picture of a wolf-tailed, redhead popped into his head. God…what was her name…?
“Durhehe, ahem!” he shook his head as he tried to refocus himself and not at all think about the talents of a eight-armed once. A silly and extremely flattered grin came across his face before he finally stopped. “Um…t-thank you? I’m flattered, really! But…I’m…kind of…seeing someone…right now?”
Oh…my god! Why couldn’t he remember her name!? Jewel? Onyx? Diamond?

>> "It is what I am supposed to do…One cannot speak of deities like people. Loneliness is for people. I have... people who believe in me."
Akshay tilted his head. So, she really did believe that she was a goddess. This was not just some type of act that she was trying to stay with. She really was not trying to not break character…because she actually lived this role.
The young wordsmith was actually quite amazed. In this modern world, he really didn’t think that anyone in a society grounded by science would still believe such things. Though it is easy to see how mutants could be misidentified as gods, he was still more surprised by the fact that people still could make that mistake these days. Then again, Mahadevi did say that she was from a small village, maybe in her locale it was more believable?
But still…doing tours of America and nobody said about her just possibly being a mutant. He had to admit that he was still surprised by that. But he nodded as he listened to her closely. Apparently she had been quite shocked by his question. He actually thought that he was speaking pretty plainly.
He smiled but nodded at her response.
“Then I guess I’m mistaken,” he smiled warmly. “Just, I guess it seems like quite a burden to carry by yourself,” he said as he looked around him. All around he saw absolutely no signs of life. Only the gifts that she had been brought. He actually wondered when was the last time that she had an actual conversation with someone. Was this the first? “I guess my curiosity just got the better of me,” he nodded. “I apologize if I offended you in any way.”

From the Personal Logs of The Last Word…
Night….2!
Well…tonight was…a little more interesting. Sorry if my writing is not as elegant as it normally is but, you know, I’m injured. Let me get to that though!
First I had a hell of a time leaving the apartment! Mrs. Gunther from across the hall saw me sneaking out of my apartment in this get up and asked if I could help her carry her groceries up from her car. I have a city to save, woman! But…being a superhero, of course I obliged to help her (I only hope that nobody was getting murdered in the meanwhile!) Anyways an hour later, yes it took an hour since she has several cats and each of them requires a different kind of cat food, I finally set out on the road again.
Of course, out through the back door, the Word Cycle (my ducati) was waiting for me. I climbed out and immediately set out for the night! I decided that my best bet was going to be patrolling Central Park! Not only was it close and accessible to my bike, it was also a hotbed of vileness!
But again it was dead! Like, seriously, already on the news there are murders, drug deals, and everything going on here but no one was around! Couple of joggers looked at me funny and a few homeless people shouted words I care not to repeat here, but other than that…nothing! But, if that were true, well…how did injure myself, you might ask. Simple…little girl and her dad were trying to fetch their cat from out of one of the taller trees.
Seeing as they needed help, and it was already 11:30pm and I didn’t want the night to be a total bust, I boldly walked up to them and offered my services! And, well, after the man stopped swinging a branch at me and screaming to leave him and his daughter alone, I climbed the tree and retrieved their cat!
Sadly…Mr. Ravage is not an ironic name. That cat bit, scratched, and hissed all the way down until finally I handed him back over the little girl and her suspicious dad. Afterward I just went home. Those scratches hurt! I think I’m going to take an asprin and pour alcohol on the wounds so I don’t get an infection and have to chop my arm off…

From the Personal Logs of The Last Word…
Night….1!
After my initial failure in taking to the rooftops last night, I have decided instead today I would try a more direct approach of leaving out through the back door of my apartment. This proved to be infinitely better and far less terrifying than if I decided to leap roof tops (I think that I would need training to do that). Anyways this proved to be just a tad easier so I think I’m going to stick to just sneaking out the back door and parking my Ducati there so I can make a quick exit.
So far though, it seems as if my decision to be a vigilante is going to be…a little tougher than I first thought. I always see crime whenever I’m just so much as walking around outside but, for whatever reason, the night was actually pretty quiet! I like to believe that maybe word got out that there was a new superhero out in the night! Maybe it terrified all the would be criminals into taking the night off or something. Wouldn’t that be wild?
Anyways, so far the costume is doing well in hiding my identity (though I really think that next time I should double up to the tights or at least put on underwear…chaffing is SO not cool.) and no one seems to realize that it is me. After I left my apartment I patrolled through Central Park and nobody knew it was me!
Well…not that I ran into anyone I knew but…still! Even if they did know me…they wouldn’t have known me. This costume is totally original and awesome. Well I better head back. It is 12am and I have to open the store tomorrow. So…I shall continue patrol tomorrow!
--The Last Word (hehehe, as if I’d sign my REAL name)

Akshay never thought that he would be doing this. He was actually quite jittery, excited, and terrified all at the same time! The man had worn costumes out in public before but they were for events and people actually expected him to dress up! This was something completely different! He was joining a league of people that so very few have the guts to join. He was going to throw his life into the path of danger simply because he wanted to make a difference in the world. Akshay Malik…was going to be a vigilante / superhero!
Once he had returned from work, the young man had eaten a quick meal to provide him with enough energy for the night and quickly got ready. His costume that hung in his closet for a few days now was primed and ready and even Akshay himself was ready to embark on this journey. So, after he dressed in silence, the giddy hero wannabe, made it up to the roof of his apartment complex.
Silent footfalls carried him up the dark staircase until finally he had reached the roof access door. Taking a firm hold of the handle, breath shaking, he took on calming breath before he stepped out into the night air.
Behind the door, he left Akshay Malik, and stepped out onto the roof as… The Last Word!
The tights were snug, to say the least, but they still offered him some valuable range of motion. On top of that he wore the red sash not only because is secretly held his belt (really it was a Fanny pac) of utility items (cell phone, mini flash light, etc.) but just because it looked bitchin’ cool! Hey, what’s black, white, and red all over? The Last Word! His new sneakers had a little extra bounce to them and, of course, brand new tread so he would be slipping on his own two feet.
He sighed as he took a deep breath of the night air and grinned in a giddy-like manner. This was it. He was really going to do this. Pulling his mask from his belt, he slipped that on over his face (he needed to protect his identity after all) and put in his white contact lenses. It seemed like a lot of work, and the lenses burned a little, but he was dead set on doing this.
“Alright…criminal element,” he said boldly. “Prepare to hear…The Last Word!!” he bellowed and made for the edge of the roof. He then glanced over, grew dizzy and backed away.
Yeah…tomorrow he would officially start. From the ground…

In the days that followed, Akshay was a whirlwind of secretive tasks as he collected the items he needed for his costume. After that night, Akshay had been inspired to draw the perfect costume that not only brought to light what he could do but also made the bold statement that he was there to enforce justice. No matter what, that was Akshay’s first and foremost task. He was going to stand up for the little guy, to fight back where nerds and people like him did not have the voice to do so.
And the costume would be perfect for it! It symbolized the mystery, the difficulty of the world, and the need to be smart to survive. It was all due to the fact that he saw the crossword puzzle in his Sunday edition of the New York Times.
After that, he sketched out the perfect costume, the image that would identify him and make him a superhero. All he had to do now was bring it to life. Now, Akshay had tons of costumes but he didn’t have some of the materials that he required. For example, he had the full body tights that were dark grey, but he needed to somehow work in the pattern that was on his sketchbook.
That is where the patience came in. Research into patches, paints, spray paints, dyes, everything that he could think of to get the desired effect fluttered about through his mind. Time after time he came up with nothing. But, after pumping one of his costume designers for promotion days (as subtly as possible of course), he managed to find a technique. A day off to grab his materials and, suddenly, the man went to work.
All good things eventually come to those who wait, or so he always believed. It took time but finally, after some careful work and a few too many mess ups, the wordsmith was on the right track. Within a couple days, the costume was complete.

Akshay sighed as he continued to start on a new body, a new form, and a new costume idea. He really did not think that it was going to be that hard. After all, the man had created superheroes and had costumes made for him all the time! Really, how hard can it be to just think up of a hero concept for one’s self? Maybe if his powers were not so lame (as he always complained about) he could actually think of a decent concept. But, alas, he was quickly coming up empty.
He sighed as he stared down at the page of costume ideas that he had come up with, (okay so maybe he was a little…LIBERAL…with his physique in the drawing but it was just a basic idea!). Ahem.
The problem he was having was that he both loved all the ideas and hated them at the same time. Sadly the man just had too much experience wearing costumes like this. He could not count the amount of times he had to wear capes during promotional days and, while they were awesome, the messed up thing was that they were always either too heavy or too light or got snagged or he tripped on them! It was just a mess. Unfortunately it was such a classic image of the hero that he didn’t know how he was going to get out of NOT creating a costume with a cape.
In the end though, after arguing with himself a lot, he decided. His costume was going to have a cape!!
The five minutes later he blacked out all the costume ideas with capes involved because it was just too much work. Besides, he couldn’t fly like Spectacular Man, nor could he glide or shroud himself in a cloak like the Flying Fox. No, taking out the cape was definitely going to be the best decision.
So, with no cape, that meant…just tights. He was going to need maneuverability, speed, and be able to keep the costume under his regular clothes. Yup, that meant tights.
He sighed as he relaxed back in his chair and looked out over his drawing table. It was littered with drawings, sketches, pencils and pens. He had the basic down…but what should his costume say? What should it actually pronounce? It was then, as his eyes drifted across the newspaper from last Sunday that he paused. Those black and white boxes, the jumble of words that would make up a crossword…

Yo, Lizzy! I'm interested in RPing with ya! I have several characters for you to choose from:
Jorge Cervantes - tough police officer from the Mutant Related Crimes division. Agnes Nicholas - teenage runaway who plays the violin and is getting ready to attend college in the Fall. Vicente de la Sangre - much older assassin who doesn't like people (he's really mean >.>) Akshay Malik - fun loving comic store owner who loves to cosplay and dance!

Akshay had been contemplating it for awhile now. Though he was sure that if he told Emerald she would kill him, Akshay had never really been able to bury the thought. Really, what was to stop himself from becoming a superhero? He was a good guy, he knew how to defend himself to a minimal degree and his powers could even be used to fight if he needed them to. Nah, it was the perfect fit! He knew comics, he knew heroes, he knew that he had exactly what he needed in order to building up the perfect recipe for a superhero!
Akshay Malik…he would be a hero.
And what was the most important thin required for him to achieve this mad and insane idea? The perfect costume!
Just the thought of that made the wordsmith’s mouth water. Coooossssssttttttuuuuummee! (it had such a nice ring to it.) The man have a veritable treasure trove of costumes from many, many promotional days at the story, many of which were as real and close to their comics as he could get them so he should have no problem with theatricality and protection, right?
No, that was settled. What he needed though were the two most important things that any superhero could need…a name and a costume.
He could piece together any type of costume but it would not make sense if he didn’t have the power choice or mentality to carry it off. No. He needed to think and consider this carefully. He could not just run around, sporting a costume that did not match with his powers or the type of justice that he were bringing. That simply didn’t make sense.
Akshay pulled out his drawing pad, flipped through it until he came upon a blank sheet of paper and immediately plucked up his drawing pencils. This was not going to be some original character concept or more sheets for his latest issue of Slaagathor. No, this drawing was going to be about his destiny, about who he wanted to present himself as, and most importantly…how cool it will look.
Pencil freshly sharpened, a grin on his face, the man immediately set to work design…
