The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Akshay sighed as he sat at home, staring at his latest pages that needed to be inked already. He sighed because he was tired. Not in the sense that he was weary or that he wanted to go to sleep; he was tired of being pushed around. He was tired of always grabbing the short end of the stick, but being Mr. Nice Guy and having people bat him aside as if he was nothing more than a pile of dirty laundry. It was to the point that the young wordsmith was actually beginning to grow a little irritated with the world.
Things in his own, personal sphere were fine: the shop was doing well, Emerald was fantastic, and he had plenty of friends, loving family, and all the costumes that he could ever want! No, it was none of those things. His problem was being treated as if he were some weak individual that could be taken advantage of.
First Newman using his mutant powers against him at Comic-Con last year, then that bank robbery when he was nearly killed, then those slug twins that took over his mind, Gawain setting vampires loose upon him, and lastly, that incident at the movie premiere when that man attacked him for absolutely no reason. Nah, Akshay had had enough of all of it. There was so many people committing evil acts in the city and nobody was doing anything to stop them.
Well, except the police, lawyers, judges, X-Men, blah, blah, blah, but there were still other dangers out there! Very dangerous ones too!
No, Akshay was in tune with the streets (when he walked around listening to his iPod). He knew that they needed someone like him! Someone who could make a difference, however small. X-Men and all them were good but they were too big. They needed the little guy, someone like him who work alone, in the streets, always out there and making sure that people were not in danger. They would need a savior in the night!
(Well…at least until midnight. He needed to get his rest so that he could be a mild-mannered comic store owner during the day!)

Akshay watched as the woman stood but still tried to keep a careful eye on the creature that was curled up against a dark corner of the alley. For a moment Akshay had real sympathy for that person because all of this was simply a misunderstanding, nothing more. A simply bump while walking, plus a bad day, could many absolutely anyone irritable. But just as the young wordsmith began to contemplate walking over to make sure that the man was okay, he paused. That was definitely not a good idea, especially with how the man wanted to rend his head from his shoulders a mere few minutes ago.
He was lying in defeat and he needed to understand that. Still, that didn’t mean that Akshay could not at least give an anonymous call to 9-1-1 about an injured man in an alley.
Before long the woman was standing and she too eyed the creature. But, unlike Akshay, she actually spoke up…
>> "Can we just end this foolishness? I don't want to fight and you don't like to be in any shape to fight, so can we just end this and I'll let you go peacefully?"
Akshay nodded, still trying to catch his breath. He really just wanted to go home and soak in the tube after this whole ordeal. All he wanted to do was go out and watch a movie premiere and, while that was awesome, he really just wanted to forget the rest of the events that followed. With a tired sigh, he simply nodded his head as he eyed the person. Unfortunately he was not answering but he was making no moves to go on the offense again. At least that was good news…he hoped.
>> "No doctor…How about you? Do you need a doctor?"
Akshay shook his head. Not that he wanted to play the tough guy or anything like that but it just seemed like far too much of a hassle. Besides, at most he had some cuts and heinous bruising, nothing that some asprin and a good night sleep won’t be able to fix.
“Nah, I just…I just really want to go home,” he said wearily.

Akshay had been chosen for a special mission! He was so excited! It was as if all his wildest wishes had finally come true! He nodded boldly to his slug master as the creature took the lead and began to slither away, leading both himself and his new sister with him. Together they would single-handedly make the world a better place by introducing people to the teachings of their glorious slug masters! They would be ushering in a new, better, world order! And Akshay would get to stand at the forefront of it! He was so proud, so energized, so giggly!
…He blinked as he looked down to see that at least two slugs had attached themselves to his arms. He began to wonder how they got there in the first place but he suddenly found himself not caring! He would be their protector!
Boldly he walked on, staggering a little due to the sensations that suddenly flooded his body, but the he refused to waiver. He had a job to do and he was going to follow it to the T!
***
Later, after they found themselves in another part of the factory, Akshay had still not run into any more workers or guards. He was a little disappointed in this because he really wanted to get this show on the road and induct new people into their gooey family! There were still so many people in the world that didn’t know the benefits and wisdom of the Slug Twins! But they could not preach the word unless they found more than just two guards.
He sighed as he walked on, but suddenly came to a stop (bumping into his sister) as a voice rang out into the darkness.
>> "Bill? Steven?... Where are you guys? What's all this crap on the floor? I want you two up here NOW with an explanation as to what's doing on here. Mr. Boyle is NOT impressed!"
Akshay looked confused as he peered left and right. He saw no one who could have said that, which made sense since it seemed like that voice came from somewhere electronic.
>> "....What was that? Who's Bo--... oh no! The boss! Quickly, we must hurry! Leave them! Hurry! We must finish destroying the equipment!"
“Wha?” Akshay asked before he suddenly started to follow.
He helped his fallen, giggling sister to her feet and managed to pluck up a few of the more squirming slugs that were slinking around on the ground. Instantly they crawled over him, one attaching to his lower back and the other onto the back of his calf muscle. Instantly he was further flooded with euphoria and he giggled madly. The whole situation was just a little funny but he needed to keep a straight face. He jogged after his slug master, despite his slight lightheadedness and readied himself for whatever trials came next.

Akshay sighed as he glanced back over and found Newman half asleep, leaning against the railing. The wordsmith shook his head as he finally caught his breath. God, they made all this look so easy in the movies! There were epic sword fights, flips, jumps, kicks, Force powers; why the hell was it so difficult? Akshay guessed that people in those movies were, 1) well trained, and 2) there were a lot of breaks in between all the action. That’s what he gets for believing the movies with such fervor. Maybe next time he’ll know to not listen to them!
Sitting there, waiting for the security to come, he peeked back over once he heard the shifting the movement and little cough. Apparently Newman had also just found his breath and was beginning to stand.
Akshay sighed as he stood up as well. He guessed that it was time to get back to it.
“Newman, seriously, just stop,” Akshay implored. “I’m starting to get worried that you are going to get a heart attack or something.”
“Pssh, I’m fine,” Newman breathed heavily and lifted his saber again. “Let’s end this.”
Akshay rolled his eyes as he collapsed his lightsaber and attached it to his belt again, shaking his head no. As much as he did not like the man, he was not going to be responsible for him having some grand mal heart attack or something as ridiculous as that.
“Newman, no,” he said seriously and then motioned over the edge of the railing. “Look, convention security is already on the way, Samus got away. Just stop, man, this is over. Besides…when did you find out you were a mutant?”
Newman blinked as he tilted his head. Then he shrugged. “When I was 18. Who cares?! Listen, Akshay, I’m not leaving here without that memorabilia! Even if I have to go through you!”
He then raised his arms and instantly Akshay could already see his body beginning to form seams and breaking down into several spheres of various sizes. He was planning to escape! But as Akshay eyed him, he only shook his head. He was not going to let the man escape, especially since he was not the only mutant in the building…
“Guess what, Newman? If found out at 13,” he said. Then bellowed out the word “THUUUUUUNDER--!!” a shiny word “THUNDER” formed in the air between them which was just startling enough to shock Newman to keep from fully shifting. Akshay quickly grabbed the large word and struck it, hard, against the man’s shoulder. “Cats!”
Newman squealed as he was startled enough to fall over the ledge and into the mattresses down below, just as security ran up to him. Akshay grinned as he let the word fall apart in his hands. He then winked as he peered over the edge and nodded to Newman. Looking up though, after making sure that Newman was being pulled to his feet and in the midst of being escorted out, he grinned when he looked past them to see Samus standing there, her prize in hand and with a wide smile on her face. She was gorgeous and she was waiting for him.

Akshay was exhausted but he was worried about the woman that had tried to protect him. That was the entire reason that he shouted to her and why he had done something as stupid as hurl his shield through the air and attack his enemy. It was not like Akshay had even expected it to work. If anything he was expecting his shield to miss by miles and maybe cause enough of a ruckus to startle her attacker. But he proved to be completely and utterly wrong.
Just as the amorphous attacker was turning away from the woman, both of which were looking pretty weak and exhausted, his Frisbee-like shield hit pay dirt! The man was struck hard across his face and sent him hurdling back onto the ground. Just as he stumbled back, the shield also clattered back onto the ground not far from him.
Akshay breathed a sigh of relief, and kudos that that had actually worked! He actually marveled at his own marksmanship (though more than likely it was just pure, dumb luck). But these thoughts were shaken away when he suddenly saw the man curl up into almost a literal ball. Appendages and limbs retracted and protected him; except for one which reached out and grabbed the offending shield.
“Hey!!” he started to dash forward but was too late as the shield went flying again.
Thankfully the man must have been pretty out of it because it simply rebounded off the wall and landed helplessly on the ground next to the woman. At least it seemed like that man was finally slowing down. Maybe he was finally getting it through his head that picking this fight was a bad decision?
He let such thoughts simmer as he dashed over to the purple woman, picked up his shield, and dropped to his knee next to her. The man had seemed exhausted enough that Akshay had his back to him as he knelt in order to check the woman.
“Hey, lady,” he cautioned as he very, very gently shook her shoulder. “Are you okay? Do you need a doctor?”

The lightsaber battle commenced and honestly Akshay was not sure exactly how he was going to fare. Newman was large and slow but he was determined enough to put absolutely everything into each and every swing and chop of his lightsaber. Akshay, on the other hand, was fast and thin enough to get around each and every strike, thankfully just barely. Unfortunately he was working without a net here. He really did not know what else he could do other than to wear the guy out and hopefully keep him distracted enough for convention security to come and take him away.
Flash of blue and red “sparked” as the blades met over and over again. It was not until Akshay was lucky enough to roll away did the both of them finally catch their breaths. Akshay struggled to his feet while Newman wheezed, holding onto the railing, his lightsaber touching the ground of the platform.
“Y-Y-You…done…yet…?” Newman managed to breathe out.
Akshay smirked as he wiped the sweat from his brow with his sleeve. “I’m just getting started, Newman,” he grinned. But he arched a brow as he noticed that Newman was looking a little pale. “Dude, maybe you should take another shot of your inhaler?”
“Nah, nah,” Newman coughed out. “I…I’ll be fine. It’s…kicking in…already…”
“You sure? I mean…we can sit for a bit…”
“Thanks,” Newman said as he leaned against the railing and sighed.
Akshay watched him before he finally rested himself back against the railing and took a breath. It was exhausting being here, but at least Newman was going to give him a second to breathe. Maybe he could talk to him, try to get him to relax a bit. It was a long shot (a very long shot) but it may be worth a shot. Besides, as he looked across the convention spanned before him, he could see the rushing bodies of security dashing to their location. He just needed another second or two more…

Newman charged at him again. While the last time the man did this it had simply resulted in his stopping to catch his breath after a couple of steps, it was obvious that Newman could smell the end of this confrontation looming. He was going to push through everything just to teach Akshay a lesson; that kind of determination could lead a man to push through absolutely anything. That was a concept that terrified Akshay greatly. But he was not going to back down either.
A flashing, red plastic sword was swung toward him and, as time slowed down for the young comic shop worker, he suddenly found that spark that allowed him to defend himself. With a swift move he pulled up his own blue “laser” sword and held it fast. It clashed and rang out with a defiant sound effect the second that it met the red “laser” sword.
Akshay tensed his arm as he held the sword strong and eyed the surprised and angry look in Newman’s face. The two remain locked in this pose, sword against sword, while the flashes from cameras down below blinded the corners of their eyes. But Akshay ignored it as he held the sword against Newman’s, teeth grinding, eyes narrowed, breath caught in his throat. Suddenly he shoved forward, hard enough to knock Newman off balance and sent him squealing to catch the railing. As he was distracted Akshay turned and moved Samus to the opposite end that looked over the mound of mattresses.
“Jump,” Akshay said urgently.
“Jump!? Ashay! But you…”
“I’ll be fine! Now go! Get convention security!” he whipped back around to face Newman as the man struggled to grab his inhaler from inside his costume.
Suddenly Samus grabbed Akshay by the shoulder and spun him around. Once he was turned she suddenly leaned up kissed him full on the lips. Akshay for a second was shocked but fell into the heat of the moment he wrapped his free arm around her lower back and kissed her. When their lips finally pulled away, Akshay blinked and opened his eyes to face a smiling, sultry looking Samus.
“Go get ‘im,”she beamed. “You scoundrel.” With that she turned and leapt off the platform and onto the mattresses below. She squeaked and bounced but, once she recovered herself, she dashed off into the convention.
He grinned a little sheepishly and blushed a little at her comment. He really, REALLY liked this girl…
“Oh maaan, running again!?” Newman groaned and straightened up to head to the stairs. But before he could get to far, suddenly he jumped when a lightsaber tapped him on the shoulder. He turned to meet Akshay’s gaze.
“Yeah, we’re not done here,” Akshay smirked as she suddenly raised the saber and tapped it, rather hard, against Newman’s forehead. The fight. Was. ON!

Newman wheezed a little through his costume as he eyed Akshay closely, gauging him and trying to figure out exactly if Akshay was actually going to stand in his way or not. One look at the young wordsmith seemed to prove that he was true to his word, he was not going to back away from Samus and allow Newman to take her prize with him. If he really wanted it all that bad he was going to have to go through one more obstacle…Akshay Malik.
Akshay narrowed his eyes as he slowly backed away, making sure to keep Samus behind him as he did so. The look on Newman’s face was just a little crazed and determined and while he did not believe that the man was homicidal, the last thing he wanted to do was test that theory with the sounds of Comic-Con still pumping in their ears.
Blue lightsaber held in hand, he kept the pointed plastic end directed towards Newman.
“Back off Newman,” he warned. “No reason this needs to end badly.”
Newman smirked underneath his mask. Reaching up, he pulled it off and tossed it over the end of the platform that they stood upon. The mask feel a couple feet before it finally landed with a calm bounce on the many mattresses below. Casually he reached to his belt as he chuckled, his face red and puffy from the excursion of shifting into a mass of bouncing balls.
“You know, Akshay,” he said with a mocking tone. “I don’t like you. You are beneath me. You always have been. You strut around in your costumes, at that dinky little comic store you work at, hide behind the ONE comic that you wrote, which quite frankly sucks, and here again you throw yourself into a situation that has nothing to do with you.”
The portly darth vader narrowed his eyes, the condescending smirk on his face as he pulled the toy saber from his belt and extended the red, plastic blade with a hum. He took two heavy steps toward Akshay, his breathing clearly labored but persistent nonetheless.
“But…if it takes me whooping your butt to finally sink that in,” he shrugged. “I’ll try to extract every pleasure out of it that I can!”

Bounce. Bounce. Bounce.
Each black ball with the face of Newman Ledge printed across it bounced closer and closer together until they touched and formed a larger ball. This trend continued as more and more bounced together, forming larger and grander pieces until, in the end, there was complied mass of balls that made the vague outline of Newman Ledge. This outline slowly grew more and more defined until the shape made formed a solid person; a solid person who wore a Darth Vader costume that was far too small in comparison to the rest of his body.
But try telling that to Mr. Ledge.
Once every that formed again, Newman Ledge stood there, looking up through the plastic eyes of the Darth Vader mask. He breathed and wheezed heavily as he locked gazes with Akshay …and the glanced at the stairs. There was hesitation, almost as if he weighed his options as to whether or not he wanted to go through the effort.
In the end, though, his need and lust for that bit of Star Wars memorabilia was just too much to ignore. There was obviously no way that he was going to let that go after causing as much trouble as he had.
So, with a look of conviction, Newman took a step, followed by another, and continued until he made it through the stairs. He groaned as he eyeballed the number of them before he finally began his ascension to the next level. He wanted that toilet seat and he was going to get it by any means necessary.
Akshay arched a brow as he watched Newman actually climb the stairs. He really did not think that the man was going to have it in him. Slowly he pulled Samus back until she was standing behind him and Akshay pulled the lightsaber toy from his belt. A quickly flick of his wrist and suddenly he extended the blue blade with a hum from the toy’s soundcard. It cast a shade of blue across his face as he hefted it up and pointed it threateningly towards the stairway.
Slowly but surely Newman climbed until he was at the very top. Wheezing and gasping the whole time, he ignored the fake that he looked as if he could keel over any second. Instead he pointed his black gloved finger directly at Akshay.
“Get out of my way, Spaz! I only came for what’s mine!”
Akshay narrowed his eyes and held up his blade. “You want her? You go through me…”

Kefka is the guy in the red coat. I believe he is from one of the Final Fantasy games (3 or 6) I forget the numbering here in america. I think it is 3 when it came out for SNES.
Gamzee is the one with the candy corn horns. I think that is supposed to be from Homestruck. At least he looks like a character from there.

It was a stupid plan and one that seemed destined for failure but at the moment it was all Akshay had to at least make things a little more even between himself and Newman Ledge. Right now Newman had far too much room to maneuver; if he and Samus could at least get someplace that was narrower, maybe a little high up, that should at least give them a chance to allow Newman to calm down and end his little tantrum (plus it would be harder to crush them with bouncing balls). The only place in the entire convention that Akshay could think of doing this was a placed he passed by on the way in. \
It was a replica of the infamous end battle from The Empire Strikes Back. It was rebuilt to near perfection just so that people could climb the structure, explore it, take a few photos and even throw themselves off into the pit of beds underneath. It was a nerd’s fantasy!
To Akshay, though, it would prove to be a saving grace. The structure had some height to it so they should at least get them away from the Newman Ledge ball avalanche for now.
Rounding a corner, he breathed a sigh of relief as he looked forward and found the structure all set up. Normally Akshay would have taken a moment to completely geek out over the precision of it, the beauty and the majesty at which this set was, but he just couldn’t right now. He had more important things to do like trying to keep both himself and Samus alive.
She was looking exhausted and red faced, but Akshay still tugged her along to the set piece, ignoring the people that were lined up for it. He squeezed past Star Wars cospalyers, Trekkies, Dr. How fans, and various other sci-fi creatures that all shouted belligerent remarks to him. Akshay could only shout his apologies and excuses as he moved past them all and pulled Samus up, each step at a time until finally they were on the landing at the very top. There, they met an extremely large, furry, Wookie that “growled menacingly” at him.
“Hey! It’s not your turn!”
“Sorry! Emergency!” Akshay shouted and moved past him, accidentally also pulling Samus behind him a bit too harsh since it actually knocked the Wookie over the edge and onto the mass of pillows below. He breathed heavily as he started to undo parts of Samus’ armor. “Come on, this should give us a second to catch our breath.” he said as he finally removed the large back plate of the costume to reveal the tank top she was wearing underneath.
Samus breath in relief as the front piece of her costume popped off and she let it fall to the ground. Sweaty, red, and tired, she threw her arms around his neck and hugged him, the prop toilet seat hard against his back.
“Oh my god, thank you,” she breathed. “I thought I was going to roast in there.”
Akshay just beamed. But…he knew that they were not out of the woods yet. He peered down, looked past all the angry sci-fi characters and groaned. Here came the tidal wave of spheres that made up Newman Ledge. They bounced angrily around the set before they finally began to reform into one, solid, Newman form.
