The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Akshay had to ask. It would have been wrong if he didn’t. After everything that Emerald had been through, he didn’t want her to feel like she was being pushed into this. This whole time he had been waiting for her to make the first move, waiting for her to be the one to decide that she was ready, and, low and behold, the time came. But still, he had to make sure that she was indeed ready for this. This was going to be a big step in their relationship and he needed her to be sure.
He then watched as she reached down and pulled off her shirt. Normally this would have resulted as a sign for him to proceed. But, he had to pause. He looked over her body and sighed a little sadly as he noted the variety of scars that she had marred her perfect skin. They told the stories of a hard life, a life that saw so much pain and suffering and little joy.
Each and every single scar were like a roadmap of Emerald’s bloody past. He knew she that worked as an X-Man, and that she did a little bit of crime fighting on the side, but there was so much more to her story. So much more suffering. If he could kiss each and every one of those scars away, he would. Not because he found revulsion in them, but because she had suffered so much, and she shouldn’t be reminded of that all the time.
Carefully, hands on the young woman’s waist, Akshay looked up into her eyes. They locked upon one another again and he saw conviction there.
>> “Yeah I’m Ready.”
He nodded as she leaned down and kissed him on the lips. Akshay wrapped his arms protectively around the young wolf-girl and sighed as he kissed her back.
A few moments later, Akshay had managed to pry himself away long enough to leave an envelope with money and a note to the pizza delivery person. Taped on his front door the instructions simply read to take the money and leave the pizza there. With that taken care of, the young wordsmith took his lovely lady gently by the hand led her to his bedroom—where all faded to black…

>> "I do believe this is the first I'm hearing of her. She sounds absolutely amazing though…That is, if she can keep someone sane in the mayhem that is New York, she has to be."
Akshay chuckled. Sarah definitely had a point; for anyone to keep sanity in this world they needed to be exceptionally extraordinary. And, in all honesty, that described Emerald perfectly. She was hard, tough as a nails, but she had this gentleness that Akshay loved to witness. He was sure that few people, if any, actually saw that side of her. To him, it was definitely what kept him going.
He chuckled a bit though, thinking about his girlfriend. She was extremely sweet, but she would never let that side of her be shown to anyone. She was tough, a fighter, a killer if need be, and she always put her own life on the line for people that she never met. To him, Emerald was the true face of the city and she knew what it took to survive.
That was how she kept him sane. She imparted her knowledge of the city to him so he knew what it took to live a happy life.
He shrugged and nodded as he turned to reply to Sarah.
“She really is,” he beamed. He then took a sip, leaning back against the tree and grinned at her. “What about you? Anyone catch your fancy in this crazy town, if you don’t mind me asking?”

Akshay nearly squeaked. One second he was sitting innocently next to his girlfriend, getting ready to watch TV and settle himself in for a night of pizza and chatting; and the next he suddenly was pounced upon (by a very beautiful pouncer he must add) and was pinned down to his sofa! Akshay had been startled and assumed that something was wrong with Emerald, but one look at her face and it was obvious that she was fine. Well, not really “fine”, but at least there was nothing for him to panic about.
Still, though, he was a little worried by the expression on her face. AND the growl coming from her lips! Needless to say he really didn’t know how to interpret any of this since he had never seen this side of her.
Cautiously he opened his mouth to speak but she had beaten him to the punch…
>> "Akshay, I know you are just trying to be nice, but, damn it, it's making it worse! I want... I want to be with you…"
He blinked…
>> "You are one of the only people I trust enough to let you see me weak. You are one of the only ones who can calm me down if I’m angry. You are so many things to me, and I want to be with you in bed before I freaking explode or tear your clothes off! Probably both!"
Akshay had DEFINITELY never seen this side of Emerald before. In the time that they have been together, Emerald revealed, pretty much, how scared she really was about getting intimate with a guy. Honestly, he couldn’t blame her, not after everything that she had gone through. And though he wondered if the two of them would ever reach that level, Akshay stayed with her. He stayed because he liked her, he liked being with her, he liked the type of man he was when he was around her.
That was why he never pushed the issues of intimacy. Sure there was a bit of frustration now and then but it was something that Akshay was slowly getting used to. He would wait for her, whenever she was ready, because he respected her.
But now, added with the look in her eyes, heaviness of her breathing, the tremble of her skin, and the fact that she was straddling him, Akshay could respond in the only way that trustworthy man could respond…
“Okay,” was his reply as he leaned up and kissed her full on, on the lips. It was a kiss that would last a second or two before he finally forced himself to stop, resting his forehead against the nap of her neck. He would kick himself if she said no, but he was not going take advantage of a desperate girlfriend, so he had to ask— “Are you, you know, sure?”

>> “Ah, that’s amazing! And so you.”
“Isn’t it, though?” he chuckled in response.
Akshay beamed proudly.
For anyone that knew him, including this young woman, there was obvious truth him her statement. Even since he was a kid, Akshay had been addicted to comics, and most things nerd related. He loved it all and reveled in it. So it was of little wonder that he would fall into this type of career. Alma knew this side of him since he was a kid; she knew that he loved comics to such a degree that he would somehow make a living out of it.
But, enough about him. He turned his attention onto Alma and smiled as he waited for a response. This was sincerely the last place that he would have ever expected for her to be.
>> “Possibly…See, after you were adopted, Dad accepted a job up in Quebec and we’ve been there since. And… I decided that I missed the States, so I’m looking to see if there’s a way for me to come back…So for now, I’m just visiting, but that could change. I hope that it does.”
Akshay arched his brows as he listened to Alma talk. Quebec? She had moved up to Canada? Was she a Canadian now? There was nothing wrong with that but it just seemed like such a change for someone so young. What, she had to be at least eighteen or nineteen by now, right? And suddenly she wanted to come back to the states? Well, obviously America would be only too happy to have someone as beautiful as her back, but still it made him wonder why she seemed so distant about the idea.
Her smile, though, disarmed him enough to let the expression disappear. He grinned as she explained that she was ready to come back. He hoped it was true; he genuinely did love having her as a friend.
“Well, I certainly hope you do decide to stay,” he smiled warmly. “We have loads to catch up on!”

>> "Hello."
Akshay was at such a loss for words that he could not even comprehend of what he was looking at right now. Just standing in his own shop, staring with eyes wide open, he watched what he could only assume was a living, breathing, goblin! It was just so wild that he really could not wrap his head around the concept. This was like something out of a movie or a comic book and yet, here he was, looking at this mythical creature that seemed vastly interested in his display case.
Never did it cross his mind that this creature was a mutant or anything having to do with the real world. All he saw was a Monsters and Mazes being standing full of life. Just, how was it possible? It was not until then that he noticed that the statue he hauled all the way over from the alley was gone. The statue…that now that he thought about it…looked exactly like this creature.
No…wonder!
He almost wanted to slap himself for not seeing it a second ago. Goblins, when in contact with direct sunlight, turn to stone! That was probably what happened! Some innocent goblin was wandering, lost, in the streets of New York and as caught in the sun before he could get away. It was so obvious!
>> "Need help?"
The creature was still keeping its focus intently on the creatures in the case. Akshay could only wonder what it thought. Did it think that those other miniatures were is smaller brethren? Maybe it thought it was in the realm of some wizard that had turned all his friends into stone? The possibilities were endless!
Akshay was going to have to make contact.
Standing still far away (since he didn’t want to spook the beast), he cleared his throat and responded in his best and most polite manner of Goblin speech that he learned from his years of playing Monsters and Mazes…
“R'mmu! O us ouun vno't,” he said with pride. Roughly it translated to ”Hello! I am your friend!”. At least that is what he hoped it meant. Been awhile since he spoke goblin-ish.

>> "It's sound like a very se-I mean interesting idea,"
“Right? I thought so,” he said as he nodded his head.
He didn’t note anything about Emerald acting strange. As a matter him, him talking like this was keeping his mind distracted from any sense that he was making her uncomfortable or was causing her to suffer in any way. As a matter of fact, Akshay was just being Akshay! Normally whenever Emerald was around, he was fine just wandering around the apartment in his boxers, getting dressed, and chattering on about his day. He didn’t need to be shy around her.
So, the simple fact that Emerald could be having any issue with him seemed absolutely lost upon the young comic artist. Instead he just smiled in his warm and loving way as he shared this conversation with her.
>> "So where did you think about this particular idea because you usually get things from news clippings mixed with your own imagination spawning stuff."
He shrugged. She had a point; normally he did turn to newspapers and stories of that nature for inspiration for his Slaggathor comic. It was something that he had already revealed to Emerald but this didn’t end up being the case. Instead of there being some traumatic or terrifying story that he pulled from, it was actually from a much tamer source.
“Actually I got it from dream I had,” he beamed proudly.
Yes, he was an understanding man. He knew that Emerald needed time to get used to the idea of intimacy, especially after everything that she had gone through. But that didn’t mean that it kept Akshay’s unconscious mind from running wild, especially in his dreams. He remembered the particularly saucy dream he had about his sweet, redheaded she-wolf that inspired the story arc for Slaggathor.
But, he wouldn’t tell her that much. He didn’t want her to feel like he was unconsciously frustrated or anything…
“It was of Slaggathor and she was, you know, stripping. Dancing around for a bar of knights, trying to distract them with her moves, peeling off her clothes, the waggle of her hips, etc…” he grinned, pretended to cough, and shrugged with a laugh. “Anyways, the dream was pretty vivid and it just struck me to make a story like that. You know, she is so tough and strong and no nonsense, that few people ever get to see that raw, sexy, passionate side of her! I just thought it would be a good story arc.”
He sighed as he turned his attention away from his girlfriend and reached over to snatch up the remote. He had just turned on the TV when he glanced over at her again.
“So, whatcha order on the pizza? I hope the one with the hot sasuage…”

For a moment Akshay felt like maybe he was wrong. He had tested his theory, by calling this young woman the name that he had always known Alma as, and it seemed to be proving wrong. The lady looked confused, as if he were accusing her of being a llama or something. Nah, there was no way that Alma would have forgotten that name. Obviously, this woman was not her.
With an apologetic look he started to open his mouth to say how sorry he was. But, there was a flash of recognition across the woman’s face. Puzzle pieces were coming together and suddenly Akshay knew that he was not wrong. This was Alma.
>> “Akshay, is that you?”
He suddenly grinned, wide, and nodded his head eagerly. His mind was whirling as her began to realize exactly who this person was. Alma, a friend from before he actually came to New York; a person he never thought in his wildest dreams he would see again; Alma, his only real friend from when he lived in his foster home. She was actually here, standing before him, in the flesh and blood.
If he were not in more control of himself, Akshay would probably be bouncing on his heels! And, thankfully, that enthusiasm seemed to spill over onto Alma.
>> “No way! It’s good to see you!”
“Llamaaaaa!!” he laughed heartily as he accepted the hug.
Though it may have seemed weird for these two grown ups to act like this, especially since they barely recognized each other, Akshay didn’t mind in the least. To him this was like unearthing a sister that he had long ago left behind. Though, at twelve he could have sworn that he was in love with her sister, in reality he actually cherished the time that he had with Alma. There was a vast difference in their ages but she was still considered one of his best friends. That was why it hurt so much when he did get adopted and had to leave.
He truly never thought that he would see her again! And yet…here she was!
Finally his arms loosened from hugging her and they pulled away from each other. He was still all smiles as he looked down at her. He couldn’t believe that the little seven year-old he knew in Buffalo actually grew up into a young woman! It was ludicrous thought!
>> “How have you been? What have you been up to?”
“Haha! Fine! I’ve been living here since I was adopted!” he grinned wide. “This is actually my comic shop you managed to wander in! As in, I own it.” he beamed proudly! But it still looked funny considering that he was still in his superhero costume. But the puffed chest and the demeanor of pride slackened a bit as he turned the attention on her. “What about you? What’re you doing in town? Have you moved here?”
He hoped so. They were a good friends. And people could always use good friends in their lives.

>> "New York City is a change…I've had an... interesting time since I got here that's for sure. Police have been called a few times."
He probably shouldn’t have…but Akshay couldn’t help himself; he began to laugh. It was a not a mocking laugh in any way but instead it was the laughter of understanding. He knew exactly where she was coming from with that. Too many times he had to call the police. It was something that people got used to after living here for so long. Akshay was lucky, when he moved here he was only 12 years old so he had time to get used to the city, as well as its mutant inhabitants.
Finally ending his chuckling, he sighed as he rested back against the tree and just looked out over the park. Today really was far quieter than he was normally used to. He hoped, indeed, that it would last.
>> "What about you? Stressful days a-plenty?"
“You could say that,” he laughed.
Of course he had to snerk. Stressful was really the only way to describe most of his days. Sure he was an easy-going, loving guy, but there were more days than most in which he was just exhausted with everything that the world threw at him.
“Aside from the normal stress of running a business and having a competing business constantly harassing me,” he said as he took another sip of his soda, “My life has been throwing me one interesting loop after another. I’ve gotten pulled into bank robberies, been mentally controlled by mutant slugs, attacked by vampires and once a fleshly golem-like man, met a goddess that wanted to sleep with me…” he looked thoughtful as he tapped his chin. He quickly shrugged though. “And that is just THIS year.”
Still, though, after retelling all of that, he could only shake his head and smirk at the memories. Many were terrifying, others were funny, but they all formed together to create the mosaic of his life. He was thankfully that these experiences helped shaped him into the person that he was.
Heavenly he sighed as he continued to look out ahead. “Thank god my girlfriend keeps me sane,” he said with a warm smile. “Did I mention she’s a werewolf?”
And, of course, all of this was said with only the utmost truth behind his words. After all, who could make all this up?

Akshay spoke of the comics that he felt were perfect for the pretty mutant. She was seemed enthralled by all of them and peered at them each with interest. When he actually got to his own comic though, Akshay, of course, talked it up! Like a proud father showing off his new child, Akshay displayed his comic joyfully.
When he finally revealed that he was actually the artist and writer behind the piece, though, he was nearly floored by the young woman’s reaction…
>> "What?! You wrote and drew that?! That's awesome! She's so pretty! You must be really good at these comics!"
He blushed and of course he chuckled. Though Akshay loved to talk up his own piece of work, he really was not expecting such a fan-girlish type response! She obviously had never read the comic before but she seemed so happy and shocked by the fact that she was standing there, talking to the very artist of the piece himself! It was definitely the type of reply that made the young comic writer blush and feel just a tad bit shy.
But just as quickly as the notion came to his mind, he wiped it away. He smiled, warmly as the young woman eyed the comic. He always loved to make new fans.
“Haha, well, I try,” he responded. “Maybe one of these days I’ll break into the big market, but for now, I really just do it for fun.” He then thought for a second as he smiled. He moved over to his counter, plopped the comic onto it and grabbed a felt tip pen from his pen cup. Quickly he scrawled out the signature “Akshay Malik”. Once it was dry, he returned to the young woman and handed it over to you. “Please, take it, as a gift. I hope that you’ll enjoy reading her as much as seeing her.”

>> "Real life gore is something that needs to be cut down. Comic gore,… can be whatever it wants."
He grinned. Yup, this girl had the potential to be his new best friend! In all honesty he was in agreement with her. Real life gore was never something that should be appreciated or sought after. Comic gore, well, it had its place in the comic world. It may not seem like it but it was true. Comics were a reflection of the real world, a place where things and situations were done in an over the top manner. What was the point of going over the top when the real world was so much scarier?
He chuckled though and nodded in agreement with her. Taking another swig of his drink, he set it aside as he returned to his drawing. His couple were gone already but thankfully he had gotten a lot of the drawing done before they disappeared.
A sigh fell from his lips, though, as the weariness from the hot day began to settle down upon his shoulders. With his drawing nearing completion, he knew that he could take a well-deserved break. Besides, it was far too warm to keep on the way he was. Instead he just sighed and lounged back against the tree, basking in the shade of the towering behemoth.
>> "If only all days were as peaceful as this one,"
He smirked. If only indeed. He knew far too well how quickly days can descend into madness. Too many times, especially recently, his life had been thrown into a loop because seeming normal days descended into chaos. Mutant slugs, bank robberies, criminals running wild, yesh, it was safe the say that Akshay was an authority on things ruining a good day.
But this day…this day seemed pretty darn nice. Good drawings, good company, a nice cool drink; what more could anyone ask for?
“Trust me, if only,” he chuckled. “Peaceful days are good for soul. We could all use a healthy dose more of ‘em.” he smirked as he glanced to her. “I take it that means you’ve had some stressful, non-peaceful days recently?”

Akshay just could not shake the thought. As he stared at this young woman he saw someone from so long about that she seemed more like a dream now than an actual person. The odds of this being the same person were so astronomical that they simply couldn’t be true. As a matter of fact, the young wordsmith was beginning to chastise himself for actually calling her that name. What right did he have to assume that she was someone else? She was just another paying customer, that was all.
He took a breath and tried to shake away the thoughts. It was time to get his head back into the game and selling comics. After all the customer always came firs--
>> “No…My sister’s name is Sophia, but the mistake is totally common. We have been mistaken for twins.”
There was a moment at which Akshay felt a bit of relief. He was wrong and then he could simply move on from this. It would be awkward for a second but then they could move on to talking about comic books and then a possible sale. But, just as he was settling into this train of thought…she continued.
Sophia…was her sister. Instantly that sent Akshay for a whirl. And it was such a bad whirl that he almost didn’t hear the rest of her statement.
>> “My name is Alma, I’m going to be in-town for an undefined amount of time, so saw fit to look about for potential haunts. Such as comic book shops.”
Alma…Sophia…the dots and connections were coming so fast that the wordsmith could scarcely keep track of them. He wanted to say that it was all just a coincidence, or that maybe it was just a figment of his imagination, or even that he was just having a dream…but no. All this, all of it, it was reality. His world spun as he felt his memories momentarily overtake his vision…
***
A twelve year old Akshay nodded as Sophia ran off to play with some of the other girls from the neighborhood. Akshay always thought that Sophia was so pretty and tended to be her slave and do whatever she asked of him, even if it never garnered her genuine attention. According to his twelve-year old logic, so long as he did what she asked then he was her friend! And “friend” was only one word away from “boyfriend”!
But…his actions were not completely selfish. As he walked across the park, he smiled as he watched the young Sophia clone, her 7 year old sister, sitting under a tree by herself holding open a comic book. It was last month’s issues of “Raccoon Man” that he had lent her. He liked talking to Alma. Even if she was young and quiet, she was actually pretty fun to talk to…for a girl. At least she was pretty open to comic books that he was teaching her, unlike her sister.
He beamed when she caught sight of him and plopped down next to her on the ground, back against the tree.
“Hey Llama,” he beamed as he eyed her comic. “Wow, already finished huh? Well, good thing…” he said as he produced another comic from his backpocket. “I already got this month’s issue! Want to read it together?”
He smiled as the smiling face of Sophia’s younger sister nodded eagerly and leaned in eagerly to read…
***
Akshay blinked twice as he suddenly returned to normalcy. He remembered to breathe as he peered at the woman who seemed to be standing there, a little uncomfortable from all the attention. There was simply no way that it was her, just…none at all! But…damn she looked like a grown up version of her sister so what were the odds that she weren’t? No…he had to test this…and there was only one way…
Reaching up, he grabbed the edge of his eye mask and slowly pulled it off. As he did, he revealed his true face to her. Gently he moistened his lips, took a breath, and called her the one thing he knew that no one else in the world called Alma…

Akshay was completely oblivious to the tortures that he was causing his wolfy girlfriend. Instead he was happy went on his way, removing his clothes and getting ready to change into something that was far more comfortable for the evening. Once Emerald had left, Akshay had removed his shirt from work and tossed it into a hamper that was nearby. The jeans were next, everything just having the scent of a busy work day on them. If he was going to spend tonight with his love interest, he was going to be as comfortable as possible.
Standing there, in full view of the door way, and in only his black and white check boxers, the wordsmith sighed as he surveyed his closet. Where was his favorite pair of comfy jeans and his Arachno-Man T-shirt? He hummed to himself as he searched his closet…when he remembered that he had left it in the bathroom this morning.
“Well, that wasn’t very bright,” he muttered to himself.
He turned and headed out into the living room where Emerald was already sitting on the couch. Even though the two of them had not slept together yet, they were just a tad bit more comfortable with one another, evening in their underclothes (at least Akshay was!). So he saw no issue with walking out into the living room wearing only his boxers.
“Sorry, left my comfortable clothes over here,” he said as he gestured to the bathroom.
He shrugged as he sauntered past her and into the nearby restroom. There, on the ground, he found his clothes. Calmly he began to slip them on. As he did so he began to think about his day and figured that now was the best time to inform Emerald of it. She said she wanted to hear about it, didn’t she?
“Anyways, yeah, my day was hell,” he grumbled as he splashed his face with some water. “Just bull about kids trying to steal from my shop. That was not so bad. What was bad was that Newman had been in, as you smelled,” he chuckled as he started to dry his face and hands with a hand towel, as dabbing at the water that spilled onto his chest. “First he comes in and harasses me with the usual ‘I’m-going-to-buy-you-out-and-put-you-on-the-street-crap,’ and then he starts digging into my about my latest issue of Slaagathor that is supposed to be coming out next month.”
He returned to the living room, still shirtless (but at least wearing pants now!), brandishing his shirt with every word he said. Apparently Newman Ledge always got his dander up to the point where he actually became a little livid.
“So, because he is a part of the group that gets to review comics early,” he said as he began to move about the living room, picking things up that had fallen that he now had time to correct. “He started going on and on about Slaagathor and meeting the Lust Deity. I worked out this whole story where she is battling this village where everyone is so focused on lust and desire that they want to kill her for trying to ruin it!”
Shirt still in hand, Akshay maneuvered himself so that he was in front of Emerald’s view now, kneeling down as he began to set up his DVD player so that they could possibly pop in a movie to have with pizza.
“So Slaagathor ends up getting infected, she starts tearing off all her armor as she struggles to find a way to defeat the Lust Deity.” He then stood, moved over to Emerald and plopped onto the couch next to her as he began to pull his shirt back on. “Anyways Ledge said that it was just derived, boring, and a typical storyline. I thought it was pretty nicely done and played on a lot of aspects that the readers hadn’t seen of Slaagathor before. What do you think?”

>> "Sounds like fun. I may stop by some time. What's your comic about?"
Akshay beamed. He loved to talk anything about his comic book. Maybe she would eventually become a fellow fan of it? He had to admit that he was happy to consider it. Akshay’s little comic was doing quite well by indie standards but it was still not a complete launch success. Instead it had its cult following that people seemed to enjoy.
Now, don’t get Akshay wrong! He loved the fans of his work to pieces and they usually always tended to be the nicest of people. But Akshay needed to make sure that he reached a broader audience before his fans got bored of him and didn’t talk about it anymore. Obviously he wanted his comic to be successful but he knew that it was going to be a lot of work. He couldn’t depend on the fans alone to give him in his numbers, he needed to make connections of his own.
But, for now, he would wow this potential new fan with a most glorious summing of his pride and joy, his comic book.
“Stuff.”
…
…Yeah he was not always the most articulate when it came to talking up his own material. He loved his comic, he wanted it to be a success, but he was also terrified of that. The last thing he wanted was to build up success around it, only to let his fans down by not keeping up with the quality and freshness. So far that has not been an issue, though. And it’s an issue he never wants to have.
“I mean, it is pretty much just a fantasy/horror comic,” he explained, better this time around. “Woman named Slaagathor has to battle all these monsters and creatures in the real world. Actually pretty exciting stuff if you don’t mind a little gore here and there.”

>> "I wish I could do this full time…Unfortunately it doesn't pay the bills. I'm a waitress at a small restaurant for most of my time. Art is my passion though. I would kill for a full time job that let me paint or draw or anything artsy all the time. What about you, Akshay?"
He smirked a little.
Her story was almost classic; the passionate artist having to supplement her income by working at a diner in the middle of the city. It was story that had existed throughout the ages. For whatever reason artists always were the types that ended up struggling for whatever they wanted. They gave their blood, sweat, and tears so that they could pursue a world of artistic endeavors.
It was a suffering pain that Akshay knew all too well. He was glad, though, to hear that Sarah was not shaken from the path. Instead she seemed to be holding on fairly well..
Good, the city needed more good artists.
He had just turned to finishing lining his subjects when he heard the question turned upon him. He finished darkening the lines of their bodies before he turned to give her his full attention. After all, it would have been rude if he had kept on without looking at her while he spoke.
“I actually own a little comic store,” he said as he took a sip of his drink. “One Comic to Rule Them All, we have some pretty good stuff if you are interesting in comic books.” he shrugged innocently as he continued. “I also produce a small indie comic book on the side. Seems to be doing rather well.”
It was a hard life, that of an artist. But…it was possible. He was living proof of that.

There are few moments when Akshay is a truly stunned man. The first such incident was when he found out he was being adopted as a kid, then it was the discovery of his powers, his last was when Emerald kissed him for the first time. Since then, though, Akshay had been pretty easy going go and took a lot of things in stride. But today, was just another day to add to the stunned list. He didn’t know why, or what was the reason, all he knew was that as he stood there, staring at this young woman, he found himself speechless.
Yes, she was beautiful, but it was more than that. There was a familiarity there that he just couldn’t quite put his finger one. There was something about her face, her hair, her eyes that rang with a sense of knowing. He KNEW her; at least…that is what he thought. For whatever reason, there was something about this woman that seemed connected with his past.
But how? He shook his head back to reality as he tried to listen to her talk, as well as place her face. If he couldn’t, he knew that it was going to drive him crazy.
>> “Tom Blake’s Red Raptor costume...For the new game that’s coming out? I’d wager, the costume is far more comfortable than the conventional Red Raptor costume…Or Darien Lane’s costume…At least he gets to wear full-length pants.”
…yeah…he was in love.
Well, not really! But yeah, kinda sort of.
He shook away the foolish thoughts as he began to giggle almost like a shy school girl. It was just so odd hearing such beautiful words from someone as young and attractive as this woman here. Most the comic nerds that he knew, were either A) not that well versed in comics but were pretty, or B) knew absolutely everything about comics but kind of lacked in the visual department. Not that it matters! All people are beautiful in their own way, but for Akshay it was just so rare to meet someone like this woman here.
But it was the realization of that that made him question her identity again. Just, who was she? Why did she look so familiar?
>> “Either way, the costume’s great…Totally spot-on.”
“Thanks,” he finally managed to choke out. But as he took a quiet step closer to her, he suddenly felt his heart sink into his stomach. He was getting flashes, images of a young girl that he once used to know. Her eyes, her hair, it was connecting the dots to someone that he used to know…someone named…
