The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

The longer things went on, the more quiet Will got and Quin wondered if everything was starting to catch up with him. Quin knew that at the moment she was existing purely on the dregs of her adrenaline and the knowledge that they were heading home.
What Michael had said about what was happening in the city was incredibly unsettling. Just the idea that there was an ancient running around and causing this kind of chaos suggested that things were just getting started. Suddenly, Quin was even more grateful that she lived at Haven. If anywhere in the city was going to be secure, it was that building.
Quin explained more about how she knew Michael and the more she talked, the more self conscious she got. It was awkward to have to keep qualifying things about her life, and it was even more awkward to have to keep bringing up everything she’d had to tell Will in the hospital tent. Context helped sometimes though, and it was just a garbage situation.
At least Michael had the good grace to admit she’d set Quin up for failure with Lee…but she had a point too. Lee was completely different stylistically than Michael was. ”Did you know that she hasn’t had any formal training? She asked me what aikido was.” Quin paused for a moment, “Right before she took my legs out and almost choked me to death.”
A mystic had been responsible for Michael’s shape shifting? That was an interesting twist and it was also apparently lucky that Michael was alive. Michael was also married and that was kind of cute. Quin had to wonder though, what was Michael’s wife like? They were apparently of a similar size which had to make things at least a bit easier. ”Do the different forms do different things?” she asked, finding herself curious.
Will finally spoke, and Michael answered the question pretty thoroughly. It sounded like things were calming down at least a bit, and that they hadn’t been all that organized to begin with. At that, Quin shook her head. This had been the best case scenario? That was a hard pill to swallow.
At least the “Fordasaurus” was well equipped if something else happened. The windows could stop a fifty whatever that was.

Quin winced when Will pointed out that he was going to be picking gravel out of his back for a month. Quin was probably in the same boat, though she’d taken most of the rock shrapnel in her shoulder and leg.
A stroll through the car wash? The redhead laughed and shook her head, ”I think the hot wax is a no from me.”
As they made it back to the truck, Quin noticed that both she and Will were doing their damndest to downplay their part in the apprehension of the metal man. Truth be told, Michael had really done all the heavy lifting…both literally and figuratively. Michael seemed to see Quin’s inability with the rifle to be acceptable and even seemed impressed that she had been willing to admit her ineptitude and pass the weapon off to a professional. As funny as the idea of shooting the wrong person in the ass seemed, in this case it would have resulted in an absolute disaster for everyone involved.
But…better than most men? That was a rich comment for Michael to make in his current form.
Michael did offer to show her the leg thing and then said she could practice it on Lee and in a roundabout way asked how the sparring session had gone.
”She kicked my ass all over the gym, like I’m pretty sure you knew she would…but we’re going to meet up again. I managed to get away with her only punching me in the face once. You could have let me know that she was some kind of tiny Rambo.”
Will asked a question then and Quin frowned a bit at Michael’s description. A government agency that had agents trained specifically to apprehend mutants and contain them based on powers?
That definitely rubbed Quin the wrong way. Sure, being a mutant didn’t automatically mean you were a good person…but the government having containment specifically to negate powers seemed…not cool to say the least.
Michael moved to the back of the truck to do something and Quin looked over at Will, ”Dunno how much I like the sound of that…” she said, but this probably wasn’t the best time for that conversation. ”Michael works for the place where I live…he was doing classes and he recognized me…apparently we’d worked together? Against each other? I don’t know…but I asked him for help to learn how to fight better…”
Michael was climbing back into the front of the enormous truck now though, dressed in clothing that seemed to actually fit and using the radio to call in the capture of metal man. That meant this whole shifting thing was a regular occurrence.
”Must be inconvenient having to drag extra clothes everywhere you go.” she said as they got on their way.

The cop did what cops do and took the weapon from Quin, marched right up to metal man where he was taking his thigh induced nap, and fired a dart into the bad guy.
Well good. That guy was an asshole.
At some point, Will had come up beside her and Quin heaved a sigh as she looked over at him, ”Do you think today is done with us yet?” she asked as Michael approached again. ”I’m going home, taking a six hour shower, drinking a cup of tea, and sleeping for a week.”
Was it strange that in the middle of all of this Michael had apparently turned into a woman? Yeah, a little. Was it close to the strangest thing Quin had seen today? Nope, so Quin didn’t say a damn word.
Michael continued to talk as they all made their way back to the truck and Quin nodded. Everyone possible needed to know that metal man could do things with metal.
Good job with the dart gun? ”I just handed it to a cop.” she said. ”I didn’t have a clue what to do.” she said candidly.
A moment passed as they made it to the truck, ”Can you show me how to do that leg thing?”

Gallons to the mile huh? Quin saved her admonishments on the effect that vehicles like this tended to have on cities. Practicality was not their friend right now, and Quin was immensely grateful that she was going to be able to ride home in this beast.
Yards yadda, rolling arsenal, command station, et cetera. Quin was still stuck on the fact that all of this had apparently happened at the behest of an Ancient Egyptian sorceress. There were going to be more questions on that later…when they were driving and there was time to think.
In the meantime even Quin had to admit that it was probably a good thing that the Fordasaurus was equipped to take out a sphinx because the way things were going they’d run into one.
Almost exactly as she had the thought, Quin caught the commotion outside the car. Even through the windshield the redhead could see that the cops were having trouble with metal man. In fact, one of the cops that had helped them get to the hospital was stumbling back with a spike sticking out of his abdomen.
Michael moved then…Michael moved fast and as he moved he changed. Quin’s eyes widened slightly as a female Michael skidded to a stop in front of metal man, burnt rubber and smoke included.
”Holy shit…” Quin breathed as Michael leaped into the air and wrapped Mental man’s neck in her legs. Quin absolutely needed to learn that trick, she thought as the mutant was brought to the ground.
Michael called for tranqs and none of the cops moved. A moment later Michael called out again and Quin realized that he….she was talking to the truck.
A dart rifle? What the hell did a dart rifle look like? Quin immediately started digging around in the potentially dangerous materials to try and find the rifle in question.
It took a moment, but she found it partially slid up under the seat. Pulling the rifle free, the redhead looked over at Will with slightly wide eyes, ”I have no idea what I’m doing.” she said, before scrambling out of the truck and stumbling her way over towards the commotion, rifle bouncing awkwardly in her hands.
There was a still an uninjured cop over there and Quin thrust the rifle at the man. ”Here.” she said before jogging a few steps back.

“So you know who’s responsible for all of this?” Quin said, locking on to Michael’s words, ” And does that mean that this is an organized movement rather than random violence?” Law school was good for something, it turned out.
If nothing else though, Michael was going to give her and Will a ride. That was definitely a good thing. It was like the universe was going to give a little back after the shit show it had dished out today.
In fact, Michael seemed ready to go right then. He also warned them to mind the mess in the back seat?
Unsure what she was walking into, Quin followed Michael, assuming that Will would come along too if he wanted a ride. The metal man was still outside, struggling against the zip ties on his wrists. They were thick, but Quin narrowed her eyes slightly at them as they walked past. They were holding up well enough but… ”They might want to put another set on him if they’ve got them handy…” she said.
Michael’s vehicle was absolutely absurd, ”Of course this is your car…what do you get, like six miles per gallon in this thing…not that I’m complaining about the ride.”
Michael opened the door and the back passenger side opened up like a car out of a time-travel movie. Good lord…and the inside.
”Again…not complaining because I’m real glad you showed up when you did…but do you always drive around like you’re expecting the apocolypse…” Quin said, literally climbing up and into the massive vehicle…an impressive feat if she did say so herself, considering the day she’d had.

Introductions went as introductions tended to go and Quin noted that both of the men seemed to be in worse shape than she did. Kudos to having powers to that didn’t require close contact to be efffective. Still, Quin felt like a rung out dish rag and kind of wanted to just lay back on the ground.
Michael inquired as to how they were holding up and the redhead shrugged a bit.
”Been better…” Quin said, shaking her head as Michael was handed a rag for his head. Quin knew Michael was a mutant, but she didn’t think they’d ever addressed the particulars of his mutation. Clearly it involved being ridiculously strong and growing in some way. ”I’ve got some bruised ribs and Will took a knife to the arm…apparently just another Wednesday in New York.”
It was Michael’s truck idling out in the street, and Quin had to grin when he admitted it. That was excellent news.
Heaving a sigh and climbing a bit unsteadily to her feet, quite the feat when all of your limbs feel like they weigh a couple hundred pounds, Quin nodded towards the truck.

So much was happening, and Michael and Will probably could have used more help, but at the moment it was taking pretty much everything Quin had to stay upright as she sat there on the ground.
Michael was pulling metal from the metal man, Will was hauling himself even further over the metal man’s shoulder, and then the metal man stiffened similarly to how the knife guy had stiffened in the coffee shop.
Will dropped clear of metal man and retreated and Quin sighed in relief as Michael continued to literally tear metal man to shreds. Had that metal been attached? If it had, Quin assumed that metal man had gotten everything he deserved.
Out of the tent went metal man and the cops outside were instructed to use only zip ties to keep metal man from getting metal again. Zip ties. Hopefully they still had their zip ties. Quin looked around the tent, there was very little in the way of plastic left to be seen if there wasn’t someone sitting on it and there were a lot of wide eyes looking in their direction.
Michael looked back over, visibly shrinking as he stood.
Small world. Quin nodded, ”Incredibly small…” she said, pulling her knees up and resting her wrists on them as she tried to muster the energy to rise. ”It’s been a hell of a day.”
Looking up at Will, Quin had to shake her head and smile a bit, ”Michael, this is Will. Will, this is Michael.”
As introductions were made, a thought occurred to Quin, and she tilted her head a bit. ”Was that your truck out there?”

Quin was dizzy…so dizzy, and as the world spun it looked like Will was even moving. Moving towards the metal man that Quin had wrapped in plastic. That couldn’t be a thing though, right? Quin had told Will to stay out of Michael’s way…Will had said that until earlier today he hadn’t even used his powers in years…Will was moving.
Will was on the metal man.
Quin took a deep breath as the world started to right itself and took a step forward instead of back as Michael re-entered the fight. How had he taken that hit and stayed standing?
Will was holding on for dear life, asking Michael to make a hole and Quin honest to god didn’t have a clue what to do.
Quin could feel the plastic starting to crack though. There was only so much it could withstand. She hadn’t had access to anything that was super strong, only the generic, cheap plastic that had made the chairs and cots and other junk in the tent. Quin’s head was pounding, but she reached out for more, starting to gather as much as she could again to try and reinforce what she’d made previously.
This time, she was only able to pull about 10 lbs before she thought she might fall over. Pushing it out, Quin did her best to reinforce the spots she thought were cracking. By the time she stopped and released the synthetic materials so they could could harden, Quin realized she was sitting on the ground.
Hopefully Michael and Will had it from here…she needed a minute.
Quin nodded grimly in confirmation that this was probably stretching the truth on safe when Will said so.
Luckily, Will was happy to move when she pulled them and they’d found themselves out of the way as metal man crashed to the ground.
For a few moments it even looked like Will was going to be willing to use his powers to help. Even injured, even uncomfortable with his powers, Will was going to try. A Leo indeed.
Michael’s arrival made it a moot point though, and Will listened again, getting back and giving Michael a wide berth. Quin did the same, still pulling plastic from unoccupied chairs, cots, and discarded water bottles until she could feel the strain on her powers. There was only so much she could hold and the strain of the current load plus the exertion from earlier was palpable.
Michael approached and smiled and Quin had to admire the gumption to look like Michael did and smile. Quin, ”Apparently nobody told him this area was off limits.” she said.
Metal man apparently took exception to the commentary because a metal bat came out of nowhere to swing at Michael, who handled things just fine and legitimately smashed the metal man's head into the ground. Quin still kept ready, but sweat was starting to bead on her forehead and it was starting to feel like she’d been running again.
Michael leaned down to haul up metal man and if Quin wasn’t mistaken the man actually grew. As if he needed to be larger….but all the same, Michael lifted the metal man.
The bad guy hadn’t made it this far into the city by being a complete moron though and Quin tried to shout out as the metal man’s other arm swung around as a bat and connected with Michael’s head.
How Michael kept his feet, Quin didn’t know, but Michael did stumble and let go of metal man. That having happened, Quin acted.
Pushing as hard as she could with her powers and her hands, Quin pushed the 20-30 lb disk of plastic that she’d managed to summon at the metal man, doing everything she could to get it wrapped around his head and arms…hoping to at least pin his arms for a moment.
As the synthetics connected and wrapped as intended, Quin dropped her powers and the material instantly solidified.
That accomplished, Quin took a slightly stumbling step back, hoping that the plastic would hold…because she didn’t know if she was going to be able to sprint again.

Quin just smirked a little smirk when Will expressed what appeared to be mild skepticism about her name. Oh well, he was going to have to live with it.
Unsurprisingly, Will didn’t have anything to add to Quin’s input about what happened when this was all over and they could go home. She honestly didn’t have any idea beyond what she’d said so they were just going to have to leave it at that.
At her suggestion, Will pulled his phone to call his Mom. His Dad sounded like a pretty typical New York businessman, deeply committed to the company and all that. Again, Quin found it interesting that Will was so shut down about his powers. It seemed counterintuitive that he’d be close with his parents if they were the cause. It was a bit of a puzzle to solve.
As Will made his call Quin idly fiddled with her own phone, she’d talk to her parents later. Even five years later things were a bit weird there. Not on her parents' side, of course, but it was hard to be in a room with them or talk to them for very long without one or both of them slipping up on something and everything coming up. They’d never been anything but the parents she’d known and loved her whole life…but sometimes it was hard.
On impulse she sent off a quick text telling them essentially the same thing Will had said in his voicemail and that she’d call them later.
Hopefully the voicemail didn’t bode poorly for Will. Quin didn’t know what his parents did, but hopefully they hadn’t gotten caught up in any of the mess. Will got a text a few moments later that appeared to clear things up though and he explained that his Mom was really active in volunteering and clubs and things. Again, typical New York stuff…
Quin was just getting ready to speak again when the roar of an engine and squealing brakes cut through the relative silence of the triage tent.
”You’ve got to be kidding me…” she said, rising quickly and grabbing Will by the good arm to attempt to pull him with her as she moved away from the sound. It was just in time too, because almost as soon as they’d left the seats a man flew into the tent from the nearby side and skidded to a halt not far at all from where they’d been sitting.
”Hopefully you didn’t just lie to your Mom…” Quin said, noting that the man appeared to have metal skin.
”Get your powers ready…just in case….” she said as the man started to stir and another figure made his way through the new opening in the tent.
”Michael” Quin said as recognition dawned. Over she looked at Will, ”New plan…stay completely out of his way.”
That said, she started to pull as much of the plastic towards her as possible, intending to wrap the metal man in as much as she possibly could. It might not end up doing much, but maybe it would slow the guy down until Michael could subdue him.

Quin laughed with a sympathetic little shake of her head when Will pointed out that he’d sung a sort of praise when they’d fixed up his arm. It really did look better though. The new bandage was clean and white and Will was taking some pain killers as they spoke.
”Well, I’m slightly less than polite on a good day.” Quin said, so you don’t have to worry about upsetting me. it was true, Quin had a tendency to be rather blunt and straightforward. A lot of the law school people and professors didn’t love that about her. Subtlety was not an art at which the redhead excelled and it was apparently something of a requirement for a lot of lawyers.
”I already changed the contact in my phone.” Quin confirmed, ”And yep. That’s my name, my whole name, and nothing but my name…” she quipped glibly as Will admitted his loss of advantage and used what he knew of her name. In fact, if Quin had her way, it was all he’d ever know.
Waving her hand dismissively when Will apologized for interrupting her nap Quin sighed a bit, ”I think I’m about as low on the triage list as a stubbed toe.” she said, then shrugged, ”I’m not all that bad off though, so it makes sense.” .
Did she know anything about emergency management? Quin shook her head, looking back out towards the city, ”Surely things are going to calm down eventually…then we should be able to get home.” Quin did some mental math, she was real far. If cab service didn’t get restored, it was going to be a long night.
Will had a thought and Quin looked over at him with raised eyebrows as he explained what was up, ”Oh, they’re in the city? Mine are in Chicago…hopefully everything is good there. They don’t watch the news so they won’t know anything is up until I tell them. Maybe you should call?”

Maybe it would be her turn soon, maybe it wouldn’t. Quin honestly didn’t think she needed to be seen beyond what had already transpired. Sure she had some scrapes and bruises, and her ribs were probably going to be sore for a few days…
She hadn’t gotten stabbed or sliced though.
She just needed a little rest.
It had been so easy to just lean back in the chair and close her eyes. The sounds in the tent weren’t necessarily what could be considered serene or comforting, but they were safe sounds. People were being helped, people were doing better than they had been. Soon, Quin had dozed off, completely oblivious to what was going on around her.
Until someone sat down next to her. Keeping her eyes shut, but assuming that nobody would sit this close to a stranger, Quin cracked a smile, ”They get you all fixed up?” she asked before opening her eyes and turning her head to the side to see a stark white bandage covering the wound on Will’s arm. ”Did they sing the praises of your field medic? Will you have the super cool scar?” she asked.
That said, Quin paused for a minute, ”Also, it’s nice to meet you properly Will Christensen.”

”The universe is a fickle mistress…” Quin said, ”There’s no telling what she will and won’t take exception to.”
As for there being trouble anywhere she showed up, Quin scoffed good naturedly. ”I am a magnet for adventure. Never a dull moment in my company.” Quin was massively overselling herself there, in the five or so years since everything had happened she’d had exactly two wild days and they’d both happened in the last couple of months.
Quin could tell that Will had noticed her attention when he spoke about how locked down he’d kept his powers and his status as a mutant. It wasn’t that Quin didn’t understand. For lots of people it was just much easier to avoid the drama. He seemed to relax a bit when she thanked him for his exception though and that was kind of that…at least for now.
The news got a little worse from there, and even though Quin had expected Will’s answer to echo the thoughts that were bouncing around in her head, hearing the words out loud made her sigh. A new laptop was not going to be cheap and hadn’t really been in the budget for this month. Maybe there was still a chance. Her books had better odds, unless a looter had needed something to prop up the leg of a dresser or wanted to try drug-free remedies for insomnia.
Still, Will offered to reach out to the owners and see if they could find anything. ”By the time we’re done with all of this, I’m going to owe you more favors than you know what to do with…”
The doctor? Resident? Intern? Asked for Will’s name and he gave it, then amended it to his full name. Quin couldn’t help but smirk, “Will Coffee” was getting an updated in her contacts as soon as she had the chance.
The doctor asked Will a lot of the same questions that they’d been asked in triage and then said, “If you’ll come with me, we’ll get that arm cleaned up. Shouldn’t take long.”
Well, if that wasn’t promising news, Quin didn’t know what was. With Will gone though, it was really quiet in the tent and she had too much time to be introspective. Introspection led to the exhaustion that had been at the edges of her consciousness to creep steadily in. Maybe she’d just close her eyes and rest for a few minutes….

Will seemed to like the idea of the Morgan Library and even suggested checking it out when they got tea. That was a good idea, the two places were actually relatively close together. They were both at least in midtown.
Assuming they could avoid disaster.
”Surely after enough destruction, the Universe will understand my desperate need for caffeinated beverages. Maybe it just took offense to the fact that I slummed it with coffee today.” she teased, ”But yeah, I’d like that…assuming the Senator doesn’t have us working dusk ‘til dawn once the dust settles.”
Will would likely have some time off, if the condition of the shop when they’d left it was any indication of how things had continued to go. That was a bummer, the place had been really nice.
The more they talked, the more squished the bottle. It was something to do with her hands while they waited and helped relieve some of the nervous tension that was still built up inside of her. Will spoke after a moment though, and Quin looked up at him and tilted her head slightly. He didn’t use his powers much? Hadn’t in years? He didn’t tell people?
That was a bit of a shock and for a minute, Quin’s hands stopped molding the plastic. So far, everything about Will had suggested that things for him had been far more normal than they had been for her. But maybe that was because he’d kept a low profile over the years. Quin wanted to ask more about that, but maybe that’d be better over tea rather than in the middle of a triage tent during a city-wide emergency.
”Well, I’m grateful you made an exception.” she settled on saying, and really she was. If he was that uncomfortable and he’d still offered to help her feel better, that was just really nice.
At the mention of her classes and schoolwork, Quin audibly groaned, everything she had was still at the coffee shop. ”What are the chances that any of it is still there? Those books cost a fortune.” Contrary to popular belief, Senatorial internships did not pay well and while she didn’t exactly pay rent or utilities for her apartment…ugh.
”I think the literal apocalypse could be happening and my contract law professor would still be sitting at her laptop at 11:59 PM ready to close the assignment and cackle as people failed to submit.”
As Quin spoke a young’ish looking man in scrubs approached, “Name” he said, and Quin nodded to Will. He was in much worse shape. Maybe once someone with actual medical training had looked at is arm it would hurt less.

Quin couldn’t help but think that this was so much better than the heavy topics of a few minutes before. Sure, those topics had been kind of necessary, but the day had already been awful enough and God she did not want to get any more mired down in a bunch of discussion about things she didn’t really know.
Designer? Quin did actually laugh then, ’I’m in law school, not a lawyer. My parents were teachers. Definitely not designer.”
Will had been to the Morgan Library, as Quin had expected, but it had been some kind of school field trip. Those weren’t always ideal for exploring a place because they generally had a specific goal in mind. ”Definitely worth a closer look. It’s like one of those fairy tale castle libraries. Murals on the ceiling, rare book collections. They do all sorts of exhibitions too.” .
The aikido was cool? Quin had to smile, it was pretty cool when it worked. The guy with the bat had helpfully come right at her and couldn’t have been more textbook with the attack he attempted. ”It definitely comes in handy.”
Will went on to talk about music and clubs and Quin nodded in sympathy as he explained that sometimes the noise and chaos of dancing and music were a lot. He liked to be outside (angry sun notwithstanding) and that he got easily overwhelmed sometimes.
Man, that would be a lot, Quin decided, once again thankful for her rather benign powers. ”New York is overwhelming on a good day,” she said, thinking that if Will’s rather calm general demeanor was any indication he handled things incredibly well. Finishing off her water bottle, Quin took to fiddling with the plastic, mostly to keep her hands occupied. Pushing it, pulling it, squishing it, almost like it was thinking putty or play doh.
How was she doing? The way Will leaned towards her and lowered his voice, it was like it was a secret that he’d used his powers to help her out. ”Honestly…really good.” Quin said, looking around to see if anyone had been eavesdropping that she missed. ”If this is you out of practice, you must be aces when you’ve been practicing.” Quin took a breath and while there was a bit of a sore pull, the pain from earlier was still not front and center. ”It’s just like you said, kinda weird and numb…but way better. Thanks again.”
