The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Ashton liked the idea of going out for pizza, and Quin grinned. She was great at ideas for things like this, especially if they included carb-loaded crusts and lots of cheese. She was health conscious…but this was New York! A person couldn’t go too over the top or they were simply missing out on living.
But…her treat?
Quin chuckled, ”Fair enough.” she said. Besides…hardly anyone could eat more than a single New York slice.

”Oh. Okay...thanks.” Quin said with a slightly sheepish smile and a faint blush at the praise from her superior. For some reason she’d been ready to fight there…and there had been no reason. She felt like things were going well too. This was what she’d wanted ever since she’d heard that New York had a police division specifically geared towards mutants. Somehow Quin had known that’s where she wanted to be…needed to be. Now she was getting her chance, and things were starting out well. Almost too well. Slyly, the redhead knocked on the wooden bar…just to be safe.
Apparently there was going to be an after party for the alcohol…and Ashton wanted her input on the activities. Darts, pool, wings, or dancing. Quin looked at herself…this was definitely not the kind of clothing one wore to a club in New York. Darts and pool had potential…though this bar lacked pool tables.
”Pizza.” she said, taking the non-verbal ‘none of the above’ option. ”And darts if it's an option. I want to learn.”
As to the beer she supposedly owed him. "And I only owed you the beer if you guessed right."

Darts. He was offering to teach her how to play darts…if she taught him pool. Quin thought the offer over. It was a decent one. She’d learned to play pool in college when the dorm she’d lived in freshman year had gotten a pool table. It had been something to do when there was nothing else going on and she’d gotten good at it. Admittedly, the pool balls had been good practice for powers when nobody was playing too.
“Sounds like a plan.” she said, working to empty the beer that the barman had put in front of her. She didn’t want to be rude, after all. She had to slow down after this one though…she really did. He didn’t bring up the dancing again, and Quin decided to tuck that information away in case the opportunity ever arose to find out If Ashton had any dance floor prowess. It would be interesting, at any rate.
The shooting, however, was not a difficult subject to broach at all.
“So far…what? Quin said, daring a comment about her shooting ability. Sure, it hadn’t been a real issue yet, but the fact remained that she was a good shot and she knew it. Eventually. The redhead snorted at the implication. She shot better than a fair chunk of private citizens with a CHL . That was saying something.

“Mmhmmm.” Quin said, holding back another laugh at the intent look on Ashton’s face. The redhead shrugged, “ The right kind of girl is totally into that whole hard-boiled detective sort of thing. Not having the PI angle might hurt you though. Sometimes ‘dames’ are involved in things that are better left away from the eyes and ears of the brass.”
Quin really couldn’t understand what was difficult about the concept of the bet. Ashton apparently had a problem with it though, so she sighed and rolled her eyes, just a bit. “Yeah, I was saying that I’d kick your ass at pool some time, and maybe embarrass you on a dance floor one day if the opportunity arose.” she explained. “No need now though. Just make sure you stay out of the way if I’m trying to throw darts. I’m terrible.”
As to his status as her ‘boss’ and ability on the shooting range, Quin snorted into her beer as she took another drink. ” Whatever you say…boss. Just don’t forget, eventually, the student becomes the master.”

This time there was definitely a smirk spread across Quin’s face. Ashton was giving all the right answers, right down to the comments about smoking. Thank God. Quin had suspected his feelings on the matter after riding around in a car with him all this time…but it was good to have confirmation. ” Dance clubs? Yeah. A little dated. Elsewhere…I think you could get some play.”
Ashton was persistent, and Quin simply stared, barely suppressing a laugh as Ashton gave his incredulous description of what he thought her nights looked like.
My oh my did Detective Drake have some nasty surprises coming to him sometime down the line. She shrugged her shoulders, ”I told you. I’ll hold off on ending the bet until you’ve had a chance to evaluate the evidence.” she said, then chuckled.
”And yeah, I’ve been known to spend my fair share of time at the club…and the range. Maybe I’ll teach you a thing or two sometime.” She’d leave her martial arts prowess ambiguous. At least for the time being.

Quin grinned and shrugged her shoulders, “I’m willing to suspend collection upon delivery of evidence to support any claim that may have just been made.”
They were police after all. It was only right. Besides, three beers in and the night young suggested that it was good idea to prolong the conversation. For now, Ashton could just buy his own beer.
As to the rest of his question.
“I don’t know.” she said with a shrug of her shoulders, ” I just figured you were more of a…dimly lit room, sipping brandy and listening to piano music type.”

An eyebrow rose, and Quin regarded Ashton from over the top of her mostly-empty beer as he pointed out that a club was a much better place to dance than a bar. She lowered the beer, empty, and was surprised to see another one in front of her. She grinned at the barman and took the new beer.
”Sounds like you know from personal experience.” she said, ” Which is interesting because you don’t strike me as the clubbing type.”
It was true. He didn’t. Ashton seemed more like the…sipping liquor and hanging out in a dark smoke, filled room type. And that image…Quin had to laugh.
” I’m only good at two out of three of those things though.” she said, meaning darts, pool, and dancing. Taking a sip of the new beer so it didn’t feel left out. ” Bet you your next beer you can’t guess which.”

Ah, well handled. Quin approved. By the time Ashton turned back to her, a broad grin had spread across the redhead’s features and she was chuckling. That, right there, might have just earned Detective Drake another free beer. It was nice to have a friend, especially one as popular as Ashton.
Honestly. Quin couldn’t blame the blond for trying. But that was ancient history now, and she had a question to answer.
”Unless you’re at a wing place...I usually settle with chips and salsa. Salt goes well with beer. ”
Quin looked around and shrugged her shoulders. " Beyond food...I like darts...and pool." she smirked slightly.

Quin watched the whole exchange with interest. Surely, Ashton was not going to ditch bonding time with his partner for some tiny blond bar fly who was obviously out to get herself a drink.
The woman commented on how this was her first time in the bar and Quin actually snorted a bit into her beer. If Ashton was into someone laying it on that thick, Quin was going to seriously lose respect for the guy. They were in New York, there were like 8 million people. A person had to have standards. The redhead filed all of this away in her head, where it would stay waiting for the first opportunity. If she got ditched.
The lady did need a drink, it turned out. Quin was shocked. Really, and slightly more shocked that Ashton continued the conversation. At least until he turned and asked for her opinion.
Quin grinned. She couldn’t help herself.
”I’m a beer girl myself, and it’s cold here…and cheap!” she said with slightly exaggerated delight.
The blond glared from around Ashton and Quin grinned at her, then raised her glass and took a drink, smacking her lips when she was done. ”Ahhh.”

Yeah. Quin was usually pretty mild-mannered, at least for a redhead. The thing was, her horoscope had warned her that something like this might happen today. That she might have to assert herself against a negative force of energy. Obviously this was that source.
Glancing at Ashton in surprise, and letting a subtle smirk cross her features after the lady pushed through them. Quin turned on her heel and strode around the visitor, taking advantage of her knowledge of MRC to navigate the desks and get in front of her once more. To get by this time, the chick would either have to vault a desk or walk through Quin.
“I’m sorry Miss…oh right, you’ve got a Visitor badge, not a name tag. I wasn’t asking you what you were doing for my health. And I don’t care how you intimidated Cynthia, you don’t walk into my department and push people around. So let me rephrase my question.” Sure, MRC was just technically where she interned…but still, it felt like home. Either way, there was no turning back now.
Quin took a breath and made the lady wait before she spoke. ” What business do you have here? And where can I help you go to complete it as quickly as possible?”

” You are quoting the law to me.” Quin sputtered, staring incredulously at the stranger as she held the perp down and resisted the urge to do anything else. He continued with the threats. Apparently now his high-and-mighty cowboy highness was going to start with the ankles. If Quin had had an empty hand, she’d have slapped herself in the forehead. As it was, she promised herself never to ignore the horoscopes again.
The perp gave up the information, which would undoubtedly be useful, but would have undoubtedly been obtained by far more legal means had the guy been interrogated at the precinct. Sure the stranger had gotten the words more quickly.
Seething, the redhead stared at the man again for a moment, trying to record even more detail for when she found the sketch artist later at the precinct. “Since you’re such a student, then you’ll know that you need to stick around and give a statement.” she barked.
”Also, while you’re at it, why don’t you show me you registration for that weapon Mr…?” Yeah, chances were small that he was going to stick around to do any of that. Quin had already known that though, and even if this guy was a vigilante…hell, they had city-sanctioned costume-wearing freaks running around already. What was on more. The guy she was sitting on had tried to take a kid, and it had been organized.

The story told by the snake man and his companion was really too simple to be made up. There was still the fact that they’d waited for the police to show up too, instead of running like someone truly guilty would have done. There was no doubt in Quin’s mind that the snake-man at least could take care of himself. His companion looked shy, and young, and kept avoiding eye contact. The dad was still shouting, and making a scene, and Quin frowned in his general direction.
“Thank you both. “ she said, “If you don’t mind waiting around just a few more moments, I think we’ll have everything sorted out.”
That said, Quin made her way back to the parents and the child. Ashton was on the kid’s level a bit, asking him what had happened and listening as the little boy answered. The boy’s story sounded much more like the mutant’s than his parents and Quin had a feeling they’d be out of here in time to stop and grab a hot dog from one of the vendors in the park.

And…they were both staring at her. Had she said all of that out loud? Had it been loud enough for them to hear? Suddenly, Quin could feel her cheeks pinking up and a number of excuses bubbling their way to the surface. She clamped her jaws shut though, and nodded her head to Cervantes’ confirmation of her desire to put out a BOLO.
Ashton hadn’t said anything, but Quin knew how he’d probably react to all of her strange superstitions. Damn her for thinking out loud!
Out of sight, out of mind, right? As Ashton spoke about putting someone outside the girl’s door at the hospital, Quin slunk off to work on putting out the BOLO on the guy who was responsible for all this mess. At least she’d be good for something tonight.

The wailing sirens were getting closer, and it finally seemed like the man she was pinning down had given up the fight. The vigilante who’d shot the other kidnapper, however, seemed to just be warming up.
”Right.” Quin said, the whole idea that she was arguing philosophy in this situation trying to beat its way out of the back of her head as a headache brewed there.
”But you start shooting people like this when they do things…and they’re always desperate because they know they’re going to die.” He was doing a fancy job trying to talk his way out of trouble…but Quin didn’t buy it.
As to all his fancy talk about water boarding and torture. She sighed.
”We wouldn’t do any of that. It would invalidate your testimony. What I will say...is that you have the right to remain silent…”
As she read the man his rights, and the sirens got closer, Quin looked steadily at the guy with the gun, trying her best to set his features straight in her mind.
