The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Quin smiled at Nate. Charming, charming, charming. ”Well, if she’s amazing it sounds like you’ve got your work cut out for you.” she said. It was fun, trying to match him word for word, even if the compliments had been a little one-sided so far. Quin would make up for that later. It was difficult to compliment a man without it sounding silly. Hopefully her repeated insistence that he was charming would be enough for Nate…at least for now.
He wanted to walk her to work, and Quin gave Nate a rueful little smile as she took his hand and pulled herself up. ”I have to change first, and I’ll probably take the bus to the precinct.” she admitted.

”Ahhh so you’re as wise as you are charming.” Quin said, laughing, when Nate refused to give her any information about other ‘Southern Gentlemen’. It was a shame, the redhead thought, this much flattery from all sides would have its charm…at least for a while. Still, Quin smiled, ”I guess without information I’ll just have to make do.”
He spoke about the date, and Quin nodded her head, ”I’m off work tonight, so that should be…” her word trailed as her phone rang. Quin was one of those people who had ringers set for every person in her phone book, and she knew this song.
”Uh…hold on a second. It’s my partner.” she said apologetically. This wasn’t a call she could simply let go to voicemail.
”Hey…” she said, then started nodding.
The conversation didn’t go on for long, and when Quin hung up the phone, her face was set in a slight grimace. ”I’m sorry about that…but, I’m going to have to go into work.”
”I might still be able to go out tonight, but it would probably be later.”

Quin snorted softly when Nate pointed out that he liked women who knew what they wanted, ”Well, you definitely don’t have to worry about me holding back.” she admitted with a slightly rueful sideways glance. ”I just hope you know what you’re saying.” Yeah…outspoken was a bit of an understatement when applied to Quin, and she knew it.
And then came the compliments. Quin felt her cheeks darkening again and shook her head as she smiled. ”Are all southern boys this charming?” she asked, ”Because if they are, I need to take a trip.”
She chuckled a bit. ”I’m glad you’ve had a good morning though.” she said, then grinned.
”And who knows, maybe that date will be just as good.”

”Work.” Quin said without a moment’s hesitation. ”There were opportunities here that I couldn’t find anywhere else.” The words were true, but there was omission there too. Quin knew that some guys found it intimidating that she was a cop. Some downright disliked the fact. This day was going too well to risk ruining it quite yet, so she stayed vague.
”I saw something in New York that interested me years ago, and I got a little obsessed.” she admitted. ”It’s the curse of a Sagittarius. Once we set ourselves on a path we can be single minded. Arrow to a target and all that jazz. I wanted it, and I’ve almost got it.” She finished, chuckling a bit at herself and her enthusiasm. MRC was cool though. So very cool, and the fit was perfect.
”So. You think I’m cute?” she said, with a broad grin to direct the conversation away from professions…and because flirting was far more fun than talking about work.

Hmmm. He didn’t live a very permanent life. Quin supposed it was impossible for everything about the man to be perfect, but that didn’t mean she had to eschew a nice time and conversation by a pretty lake. She tucked the information away though and filed it under, remember.
Nate skipped a stone, and the redhead laughed as she counted the number of jumps and he gave her a little squeeze. This whole thing was definitely okay. He lived in a cute little apartment off the park and she nodded when he asked if she lived somewhere more permanent.
”Yup. It’s a nice little place. Been there a little over three years now.”
She gave her companion a sideways glance. ”Why New York? Just wanted to be where all the action was?”

”Indiana.” Quin replied easily when Nate turned her question back around on her. The thought made her smile, ”My parents still live there…” And that was almost true. They still lived in Indiana…but her dad had just retired from his job at the local Community College, and her parents had moved into a good old-fashioned commune. It was fascinating.
”Went to college at Northern Iowa.” she said, gesturing to the purple and gold shorts she was wearing. ”Lots of willow trees and lakes though…and no cities to speak of.” It had been nice…but this was where she belonged.
”I’ve never been to the Carolinas, but I’ve heard they’re lovely.” she said, not wanting to drag the subject on too long. ”But you said you’re new in town so you’re probably sick of the subject.”

Aha, Quin thought as that arm made its way around her waist. The movement was familiar, but the question was…was it too familiar? Did the charming southern gentleman on the outside cover something more sinister below? The arm was in no way restraining, and Quin had hesitated long enough that she didn’t really want to move away. She didn’t move any closer though, and for a few more moments they just watched the lake. It was nice, Quin had to admit, she’d grown so used to blurred lines and blue uniforms that a guy making is immediate intentions known was a breath of fresh air.
What an interesting day to run, Quin mused as she sat, already itching to get home and check out her horoscope for the next few weeks and what the stars had to say about her romantic life. It wasn’t something the redhead usually put much time or energy into, but if today was any indication she needed to start. It had been quiet for a while now, and Quin broke the silence with what she hoped was an easy comment.
“This is one of my favorite places in the park.” she admitted. ”It reminds me of home.”
That reminded her. With all his fancy southern manners and his funny little accent, Quin was curious about Nate.

X….Communicator. The slight scowl went full on, at the words and the redhead fought the urge to turn around and walk away. She was curious though, and the Asian guy was yelling and grabbing her by the arm and Quin was just shocked enough that she followed, albeit a bit reluctantly.
Once they were outside the range, Quin pulled the protective gear off her head and plopped a fist on her hip. ”I should have guessed as much.” she said just a bit meanly and shook her head when he pointed out that they needed to find a phone somewhere because he’d missed the call.
”Stay.” she said, holding up a hand and pulling out her cellphone.
A few moments later, she hung up. ”Some kind of mutant melt down in a park.”
She smirked in the X-Man’s general direction. ”But I guess they’ll have to settle for MRC since the X-Men missed the call.” she said, ”But you can ride along if you promise to stay out of the way.”

Yet another test passed. Quin was honestly impressed and followed Nate as he made his way to the willow tree she’d sat under so many times. He had good taste in scenic spots, the redhead decided as she followed, and it had nothing to do with the fact that it was her favorite spot. She looked out over the wather and sighed a happy little sigh. Yup, it was how exactly how she remembered.
Nate patted the ground and Quinn shook her head as she plopped down on the ground next to him. ”Of course not.” she said. ”What kind of tour guide would I be if I abandoned you now?”
There was a few moments of silence then, and Quin simply appreciated the view and the company.
”It’s almost possible to forget you’re in the middle of the city.” she said after a moment, echoing her earlier thoughts to see what her companion had to say.

”A…pink…elephant.” Officer Archer repeated as the pen she was holding dangled from her fingers and she looked at the witness with an arched eyebrow.
“Yes! It was pink! And…and….it had this sharp teeth like an alligator!” It came out in a rush, and the words were slightly slurred. The witness was sloshed, and of course Ashton had sent her to do the interview. Yes the information was important…in fact it was really important. This was the first time they’d had an eye-witness to corroborate anything that was happening with these murders. People were getting eaten, and nobody had seen a thing…until now.
”You’re SURE that’s what you saw? It wasn’t just someone heavy…maybe wearing a pink shirt? Maybe their teeth just looked sharp.” the redhead said, trying to keep her patience.
“Look…I know what I saw, and I’ve seen it before. It was a Pink. Elephant.” The drunk screwed up his face in thought for a moment, then the lightbulb turned on, “Like in Dumbo! When he drinks the booze! There’s bubbles, and all those pink elephants! And the creepy song! You know...the elephants on parade?" There were giggles then, drunken ones. Wow.
”Dumbo. Right.” Quin said, shaking her head and making notes in her steno as thunder rumbled in the distance. This was going to be a long night.
"Oh." The drunk said, once she'd gotten her giggles under control. "It was wearing a parka too."

Was she used to guys kissing her hand? ”No…not at all actually.” Quin said. She was used to guys deciding she was useless because she was a woman, then deciding she was one of the guys when she disproved the first theory. It was nice for things to be a little different for a change, and if her cheeks had darkened a bit…well so be it.
They were heading towards what was commonly known as “The Pool” . To be more specific, the giant weeping willow at the Pool. Quin loved that spot, whether it was just for a chance to read, or pretend that she was somewhere away from the city. When you were sitting in the shade under that tree, you couldn’t see the tops of the buildings that loomed over the park, and until someone started honking their horn you could almost forget. The moment never lasted long, but still…
It didn’t take too long to walk, and Quin was delighted to see that her spot wasn’t occupied. ”Here we go.” she said, stopping a little ways off and gesturing. Quin was curious. Would Nate see value in the same things she did?
”What do you think?” she asked, hands on her hips.

Well Lah-de-dah. Quin had a flashback of the time she’d watched Gone With the Wind with her parents as Nate grabbed her hand and kissed it. He was doing well, she hadn’t even had a momentary urge to pull her hand back, and her cheeks were curiously pink. Quin played it off though, and grinned, ”It’s a date…and, you’re off to a good start.” she pointed out.
He wanted to see another spot, and Quin made a show of tapping her lips with a finger while she thought. Where was she going to take him? There were lots of cute little spots, but she didn’t want to go anywhere too cliché.
”I know of a pretty lake.” Quin said, ”If you’re interested in more scenery. It’s by 102nd st.”

Smart man. He knew when to cave. Quin added another point to the “Pro’s” column and kept right on smiling. There were lots of those pro’s in that silly column and no negatives so far. Things were looking promising. Very promising.
A dinner proposal was made, and the redhead laughed to hide her extreme pleasure at the offer, pony tail swinging as she shook her head. ”It would be horrible if you ruined my perception of an entire subset of American Culture.” Quin admitted with mock solemnity.
”So, I’m just going to have to take you up on your offer.”

Nate liked the view, and Quin smiled a happy little self-satisfied smile. While he looked out the window, the red-head took a moment to study the view inside the tower. She’d seen the park before, and hadn’t really had a chance to look over her companion. That Nate was good looking, there was no doubt. He was of a height with her, but Quin had gotten over such things as height years ago. (It narrowed the field too much to be picky)
He turned and the red head jerked her eyes away, lest he realize she was staring. Nate spoke, and when he said that maybe he ought to keep her around, Quin’s eyebrows rose nearly to her hairline.
”Maybe?” she said, with a mild scoff in his general direction.
”Well maybe I ought to find a more grateful tourist to show the sights.” she added, wondering if the fact that she was grinning took away from the effect of her scolding.
Propping a shoulder against the wall next to the window, Quin decided to give him a chance at redeeming himself.
"Or you could just admit that I'm the best tour guide ever."

His mutation…well his mutation sounded a heck of a lot like hers. He could only work with naturally occurring materials though. That was almost the opposite of what she did with polymers. She couldn't make little men though...or anything that could move on its own.
”Very cool.” she said, holding back her own information until a better opportunity presented itself.
A few moments passed and well, at least he threw away the cigarettes. Why someone would smoke ‘just because’ was beyond Quin’s mental capacity at the moment, but no cigarettes at the table was a vast improvement over having the things in front of her face.
Mat wanted to know what she did with herself, so Quin pulled out a chair at his table and sat down. The better to see who she was talking with, of course… Geez the guy looked rough. He’d said he wasn’t sleeping, but Quin knew when it was time to pry and when it was time to mind her own business. This situation was definitely one of the former.
Apparently it was okay to talk about herself, though, and Quin smiled.
What did she do with herself?
”Arrest punks who smoke in non-smoking establishments.” she said. ”But only when I’m on duty.”
