The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

The best thing about the pizza shop that Ashton had taken her to, was that Quin could easily remember right where it was, even in the heart of Manhattan. The store fronts ran together sometimes, but for some reason this one stuck out in the redhead's mind whenever she had a hankerin' for pizza.
That happened a little too often for her waistline's taste, but a craving had to be indulged or it would simply stay a craving. Besides, something about the slightly dark, mild atmosphere of the place was just what the doctor ordered after a long day. Or after a day off. Or pretty much any other time.
Whenever she visited, Quin sat at the huge bar that she and Ashton had occupied the time they'd come. The bartender was still as brusque ever, and if he gave a noncommittal grunt in her direction, Quin always smiled in return. She ordered the same cheese pizza every time, and if she was in a mood, a beer. Somehow, the guy always knew when that was, even if Quin wasn't sure herself.
Today was not one of those beer days, so there she sat with her giant piece of pizza and a coke, mulling over the last few weeks and how busy they had been. Her birthday had passed, Nate had confessed that he loved her, and more and more her near death experience with the pink elephant man was starting to fade into the shadows. The ripples caused by life in recent months were smoothing out and life was taking on a comfortable rhythm again.

Oh good. He wasn’t a tourist. That last comment, it had been a mini test to see what he would say. Lots of people wanted to see the sights in Central Park. The zoo, that one famous bridge that people always took pictures of and stood under. They wanted to take carriage rides and see the lake.
Not Nate though. He kept right on flattering (or had they moved on to flirting) and told Quin to show him the way.
She started to walk in the opposite direction she’d come jogging from.
”Tell me Nate, did you know that Central Park has a castle?” she asked with a grin.

Quin was glad that Nate was prepared for the winter. From the sound of his accent, it wouldn’t have been ridiculous for him to be clueless, and Quin had seen them before. People who thought they’d visit New York in the winter, to see the giant Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center and the fabled snowy Central Park. Instead of snow globes and I <3 New York t-shirts, they went home with expensive coats they’d had to buy just to keep them going through their sightseeing. Nate sounded like he was better off than those people, though. Quin was glad. It meant he wasn’t a moron.
Annnnnd bingo. Her clever ploy had worked, and the handsome stranger had agreed to her proposed tour of the park. Whatever her horoscope, Quin decided it had to have been in her favor.
”Alright.” she said, glancing around and trying to figure out the best place to start, ”Are you more into the touristy highlights, or do you like the more special little places that most people don’t normally know about?”

Ah, he was a flatterer, Quin noticed, shaking her head with a chuckle when Nate called her lovely. He obviously had good instincts and realized that such flattery would get him everywhere. ”It’s nice to meet you too, Nate.”
And, Quin added to the list of things she was noticing about Nate, he was new to New York. The redhead’s smile stayed firmly in place as opportunity knocked. Wondering why she hadn’t checked her horoscope to see what it said about today, she looked up at the sky and shrugged her shoulders. ”I’ve been here for a few years now, and I’d say that we have days like this more often than not in the summer.”
Grins all around. ” Just you wait until the winter though. I hope you brought your long johns, wherever you came from.” Quin had…but she’d been from Illinois, she’d known what to expect from a real winter.
”Has anyone been kind enough to show you around Central Park?” Quin asked boldly. They were in public, after all, and there would be no harm and giving up a bit of her day off. To be a good Samaritan.

Quin kept track of details as Nate spoke. He’d mentioned agents and buyers, so obviously he sold something. His agent was exasperated with his tendency to ignore his phone, so that meant he really didn’t walk around with it attached to him at all times.
His name was Nate, but he didn’t give any more information than that. That was fine. He also swore he was not as clumsy as the accident had made him seem.
”Fair enough.” Quin said, a slow smile curving her features. ”I’m Quin.”
”I suppose I can forgive your lack of attention since it was such an important communication.” she said, smile growing even wider, ”If you’ll forgive me for running with my head in the clouds and forgetting to pay attention to the people down here on earth.” she admitted gracefully, then added. ”I really can’t blame everyone for being out enmasse though. It really is a beautiful day.”

For a moment, Quin wanted to be mad. What had he been doing, messing around on a phone and not paying attention to where he was going?! She opened her mouth to complain, just as his contrite apology was issue.
Well damn. Now she just had to sit on the ground and look silly.
”Just my pride.” Quin said, taking the offered hand and pulling herself up. Upon gaining her feet, Quin chanced a better look at the guy she’d ran into. He was apparently a jogger as well…but one who didn’t seem able to disconnect himself from his phone. That was a mark against him, but his looks were a mark in his favor. What harm could there be in prolonging the conversation a little.
”You’re not hurt either, are you?” she asked, then nodded to the phone, ”Must have been pretty important to let it interrupt time outside on a day like this.”

It was a beautiful morning, promising to develop into what the weather caster had called a halcyon day. Quin wasn’t incredibly well read, but she knew enough to realize that meant it was going to be beautiful. That meant that her morning jog was mandatory…instead of optional like it was whenever it rained or snowed. She’d rolled out of bed, pulled on her running clothes and had still been wrangling her hair into an acceptable ponytail when she’d walked out of the apartment…and she had not been disappointed. Even if she was up early on a day off.
She took off for her jog and quickly found herself in Central Park, as she normally did. Apparently the rest of the city watched the same news channel, and had come out in force, because the jogging and bike trails were far more full than usual. Quin wanted to call them all fair-weather exercisers and ask them where they’d been when it was a hundred. She kept her mouth shut though, and kept moving, passing people where necessary and generally enjoying herself.
Despite the crowd, all the nature sounds prevailed, and Quin wondered why anyone ever wanted to run with headphones blaring music in their ears. You missed out on things when you did that. She didn’t have much room to talk though. Apparently when you were busy watching other people, and not the trail in front of you…you missed the fact that someone was texting and walking instead of paying attention.
You subsequently ran into them, and you subsequently ended up on your rear. In the middle of central park.

Quin’s dark glare followed the woman all the way to Cervantes’ desk, wishing the whole time that she could read lips. What the hell was so important that a person simply disregarded all protocol and acted the way that…that…woman had acted?
Ashton made a comment and Quin snorted. ”I know.” she said tightly. ”And that’s the only reason she’s not face down on the floor in cuffs.”
It was easy to be brave when the only person you were talking to was your partner, and your redhead temper needed a place to vent itself.

One of Quin’s favorite things about New York was that people were more than comfortable with lapsing into silence while they ate. This was an ideal situation for Quin because, and the redhead did not mind admitting this, she loved to eat. The pizza was delicious, and while they ate, Quin had to muse over how differently the night could have turned out when nobody else showed up at the bar for drinks.
It hadn’t though, and Quin had already made considerable progress through her slice when Ashton stopped for a drink of beer and a little conversation. Lowering her pizza for a moment to respond, Quin nodded her head enthusiastically, ”You did!” she exclaimed. ” You have to teach me. As soon as we're done.” Yup. Darts came after the pizza. Quin dove back in...so she could get finished more quickly, of course. Not because the pizza was amazing.

”Mmhm.” Quin said when her partner commented on how large the crowd was. It made surveillance difficult. What was even worse was that most of the attention was centered around an exhibit on…roaches.
Ew. Roaches. Quin made a face that suggested that the last thing she wanted to do was go and look at the exhibit that Ashton was pointing out. How that was even considered art was beyond the redhead, but she’d already chalked it up to her Midwestern, and therefore uncultured, upbringing and moved on with her life. Ashton, on the other hand, seemed to think something of value could be gleaned from the experience. Oh, and lovely, the roach was holding a tea cup. Wasn’t it just delightful?
No. No, it really wasn’t. Not at all.
”Oh god.” she said, ”Please don’t ruin tea for me. I won’t have anything to drink.” she said, but then shrugged her shoulders. ”But lead the way, partner of mine. We might as well join the freak show. Chances are, we won’t be able to get close enough to see anything anyway.”

The unmitigated gall of the MRC visitor left Quin speechless for a moment. Then she found herself with a badge shoved into her chest and a woman vaulting over desks to get around her. This was simply ridiculous!
For a moment, Quin entertained Ashton’s notion of arrest. The woman had just assaulted her. She’d shoved that badge at her in a threatening manner, and had done nothing but be rude since arriving. The lady, and Quin used the term very loosely, needed a serious lesson in manners. Not from an intern though, and if she let Aston do the arresting it’d end up coming down on his head.
Quin shot Ashton a quick grin, then scowled at the FBI badge in her hand. Truth be told, the redhead didn’t care if the visitor was on the President’s Secret Service detail, there was a way you behaved to people, and that with the jumping over desks…was not it.
There was no way after that scene, that Quincy Archer was going to chase after the woman like a damn puppy, so she took a deep breath and let it out on a long sigh.
”No. Just let her go. Cervantes can deal with her. I am tempted to do what she said and call her boss. Just to submit a complaint.”

Pizza. Yes, pizza was a far more appropriate topic than costumed super heroes. It was, however, interesting to know that Ashton wasn’t completely opposed to their involvement in crime fighting. He’d allowed that they had a tendency to get in the way, but…he’d said but. Then the pizza had arrived.
Yum.
Quin smiled and nodded her head at what Ashton was saying. Pizza was definitely more palatable and the redhead picked up her slice and took a bite. Oh man. Yeah. Uh. This pizza was amazing.
”This was the best idea ever.” It simply had to be said.

Weren’t all that bad? Quin snorted into her beer and heaved a large sigh. ”It doesn’t sit right with me. They didn’t do the book work, they didn’t do the leg work.
Ashton had said that the one guy was okay. Quin was going to be harder to convince, ”And I’m sure this guy was okay, you wouldn't say so if he wasn't. But he’s not a cop.”
This required another drink of beer, and shrugged, ”So you don’t have to worry about me saying anything.”

”I think everyone would look terrible in a spandex suit.” Quin said, nodding at the sage wisdom of the statement and reaching out to pat Ashton on the shoulder a little awkwardly.
”And I wonder if that’s how everyone ends up in MRC.” she mused, returning to the beer and taking another swig. At this point she was at least two sheets to the wind and heading for three. They’d had quite a bit. That was okay though.
”So what do you think about those X-Men anyway?” Quin said with a sudden scowl. It was probably obvious what Quin’s opinion was.

Quin smiled almost involuntarily at the inherent compliment in the two words Ashton spoke to her. It may have just been a ‘you too’ but it meant something to the redhead. It meant that she wasn’t a burden as a partner, it meant that she was actually starting to fit in.
”And yup. I went through all of that, just for MRC.” Quin said on a small sigh and with a slight smile. “You have to admit. It’s an incredible idea. The public is used to people like the X-Men running around with their underwear on the outside of their pants. Actually recruiting mutants to keep the peace by letter of the law…I mean, wow.” Quin let the thought hang there, wondering if Ashton had ever really thought about it.
