The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Part of Gina's social work degree entailed volunteering a certain amount of hours in a childcare setting. Since the Mansion served predominantly teens, it didn't count. Thus the gargoyle found herself at a daycare just off campus, which serviced infants through fifth grade.
“There's a flu bug going around,” intoned the principal, “So you're going to use this bleach solution to disinfect all of the plastic toys here.”
Children were playing in the next room over while Gina worked on disinfecting toys. And while she wanted to insist upon working with the kids, it was an unspoken truth that these volunteer hours usually equated in unpaid labor and menial tasks.
“No problem.”
The principal left, and the gargoyle began to measure capfuls of bleach.

King Con-- though Gina admired some of the costuming feats that other attendees had pulled-off, she wasn't familiar with the nerdy subculture… or perhaps, super-culture… that permeated the convention center. She looked the part, donning her own two-piece ensemble. With her mutation, the only additional work needed was adding some temporary, red highlights to her hair which hung in their natural explosion of curls around her head…
Gina carefully made her way through rows upon rows of vendors' stalls. Though the aisles were packed with people, the other convention attendees seemed unusually mindful of Gina's wings and tail. Perhaps it was that they were so accustomed to having to avoid unwieldy costume pieces. A few people even absentmindedly complimented her feet or her tail or her wings before realizing that these were not prosthetics.
“Hey, you're Gina, right?” a soprano voice piped up. The gargoyle turned, her wings aflutter. The person behind her wore a long pink wig, and had skin painted pink, a few shades lighter. She was dressed as a princess with a very minimalist crown.
”I am.”
“You're so lucky! I'm such a fan of your girlfriend's work.”
The gargoyle blushed-- another fan. Nessa was on a panel, ergo Gina's presence at the con. She was playing the part of a supportive girlfriend. She'd gone to the Q+A, but was filling some idle time while the Pow! Block Party was signing autographs and taking photos with fans.
”Hey, thanks. Did you get the chance to meet her?”
The girl was bubbling with excitement nodding vigorously as she withdrew an ink-and-colored pencil drawing of none other than Nessa. Nessa's familiar signature was scrawled in the corner, in Sharpie, politely away from the illustration, “This has to be the best day ever. I don't suppose you'd be willing you sign this too? Would you, please?”
The blush on Gina’s cheeks deepened.
“Are you s- I mean, if you want?”
“That'd be great!”
As the girl rummaged for a Sharpie, a scream cut through the room, over the din of conversation. Gina looked around, mild concern crossing her features, but for as short as she was, she couldn't see much in a crowd like this.
I love your new character, Penguin! I could see things getting really exciting, with her mutation, especially when she bestows physical mutations. >D Welcome back.

The gargoyle listened dutifully as Nessa explained her experiences… the sloppy, drunk confession to Winnie brought a soft smile to the gargoyle’s face. Said smile puckered into a brief frown when Nessa explained that Booker didn't take the news as easily.
“Were you born psychic, or did it activate later-on?” it was a very mutant question to ask. Gina was a rare case, someone who'd started somewhat mutated and developed over time. Most people suddenly acquired their powers. It didn't change the fact that exposing yourself as a mutant was a very scary thing.
Gina set her spoon down when Nessa took her hand, and Gina coyly rested the now-free hand against her neck. It didn't take a psychic to know that they were treading into heartfelt territory. Now that Nessa had come clean about the nature of het mutation, Gina made a point of looking at her. Nessa was looking away, though. Being a mutant was scary… and knowing exactly what your loved one thought, unfiltered, had to be even worse.
>> ”That’s why I wanted to come clean to you, Gina. I did not want to carry a lie in secret from you anymore. I need to learn to trust the people in my life who matter. And Gina… you really matter.”
Finally, Nessa found the courage to look Gina in the eyes. Behind therm, she'd find nothing but a comfortable silence there. A warm, scintillating acceptance. An innocent, gleaming love.
“I appreciate that…”
That didn't even graze the surface. Nessa probably knew that, though. It was times like these that the gargoyle swung from effervescent bubbliness to tender demonstrativeness.
>> ”I love you, Gina. I really and truly love you, and meeting you is one of the best things to ever happen to me.”
How did you respond to that? What could you say that didn't discount what your girlfriend just said. A soft smile… and lavender blush… Gina lifted Nessa’s hand and brushed her knuckles with a kiss. Her eyes only ventured away when she closed them, to kiss her hand.
“The feeling is mutual,” Gina assured Nessa, her brown eyes practically dancing with delight. God, I'm so lucky.

The zoo-- Gina loved the zoo. Ever since she was a kid, she'd loved the zoo. They'd go once a year, or once every two years, when she'd lived in Mendocino. Her mother, three brothers, and she would venture down to San Francisco, and amidst their visit to the city (and the relatives that lived there), they'd find time to go. It was difficult to say what her favorite animals were-- mostly because she loved them all.
Thus, on a day when the weather was fair, her homework assignments were sparse, and Nessa was busy filming, the gargoyle took herself to the zoo. Through various exhibits she went, expertly navigating throngs of children as she went. And, after weathering pint-sized torrents of little people, she found herself famished, and made her way to the food pavillion. Girl gotta eat. If she'd been smarter, she would'e packed a picnic and avoided the overpriced zoo food. But hey, at least it went to a good cause.
One hotdog, an iced tea, and a bag of chips later, Gina was sitting on a bench, getting ready to enjoy her meal. The bench was removed from most of the other food pavillion patrons, slightly quieter than the area with the tables. It was better that way. Gina popped the lid off of her cup, preparing to add a small lemon slice and som sugar. Her phone buzzed. Probably Nessa.
The gargoyle fished out her phone to check. While distracted, a squirrel clambered onto the far end of the bench, unbenounced to the gargoyle. She quickly texted a reply, repocketed the phone, and-
"...hello," the gargoyle greeted the rodent opposite her. The squirrel flicked its tail twice in response, "...shoo. Shoo..." she flapped a hand, trying to discourage the squirrel from getting comfortable. It didn't flinch.
Gina listened to the other tales of Christmases past-- Juli's story of Christmas and Hannukah blended (how cool!), and Nessa's humorous confession about having scoured her and Booker's apartment for her gifts. A shiver ran through Gina as Nessa murmured about "avoiding spoilers" into the crook of the gargoyle's neck.
"Not telling you has been absolute torture," the gargoyle teased, smiling. Even withou the telepathic assistance, Gina was not a secret keeper. She tended towards oversharing when it came to projects and, well, Christmas projects were no exception. Gina loved to tell her friends and loved ones what she was working on, but you just couldn't do that with Christmas gifts. Especially when the person receiving said gifts was a f***ing psychic.
Gina smiled at the sibling antics that unfolded between the Bookman's, sipping her mulled wine. She missed her brothers. A lot. Watching Booker torment Nessa only solidified that sentiment. The gargoyle glanced towards Juliette, shaking her head in good humor at Booker's antics. Gina was perfectly contented to sit and enjoy the company of the others present, without leaping into the conversation, She took another sip of her drink, watching the steam roil upwards.

Kalos liked the neck, so Gina kept it. The child then reccommended something other than sleeves-- gloves, like the ones that she was wearing. These were shown and explained as--
>> "This is cover my hands so I do not lose a piece."
"You can definitely have glove," the gargoyle affirmed, even adopting the child's unusual way of speaking. The gargoyle glanced at the white costume gloves, which (as adult length gloves) went up beyond the child's elbows. Gina drew two lines, one on each of the figure's forearms, signifying gloves. Then she wrote "over-the-elbow gloves, already has" in a bubbly scrawl.
"What colors should the dress be?" Gina inquired, smiling. That was an important detail. And, since she was already jotting notes down, she might as well write that, too.
