The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Cosmina nodded as the girl spilled information. That was much better. The girl knew that a mutant had erased her memory. Anything beyond that was a blank. It had been interesting to watch her reaction to the taser. More a point of professional interest than personal. After all the girl had reacted better to the taser than she'd thought she would. Perhaps she'd experienced something recently that hurt worse?
"Who are your parents?"
If the girl didn't remember her past Cosmina rather doubted she'd remember her parents. However the question had to be asked for the sake of her bank account. Idly Cosmina wondered what interest her employer had in the girl. After all, there didn't seem to be anything much special about her.
Cosmina contemplated the girl after she gave an answer in the negative. She had expected that answer. Now she had to ascertain whether or not the girl was lying or truly didn't remember. Her smile would say otherwise but Cosmina didn't enjoy such jobs. It was simply that the suffering and deaths of others was something that paid well enough and that she was suited for. She did enjoy a good fight though. The adrenaline was probably responsible for that.
"Hmmm, Pity."
And with that Cosmina unleashed the taser on the girl. Considering the girl was already somewhat injured when she'd retrieved her it couldn't have felt good. Of course that was the point of this particular exercise. The pain was an incentive to respond to her questions truthfully.
The girl tried to figure out what she was supposed to remember. At least, it looked that way to Mina. However she ended up asking what she was supposed to remember anyway.
"Your life. Before you lost you memory."
Mina moved and retrieved her taser from the table. It was specifically mentioned in one of the later questions. However Mina didn't think it would hurt to use it now. She was supposed to jog the girl's memory after all. Between the knife, the taser, and her fists Mina was fairly sure she could jar something loose in that girl's head. If not then...oh well.
A wicked grin, brimming with glee, twisted Mina's lips the moment the girl admitted her mutation. The girl's power fell within Cosmina's realm of control. Provided the girl was telling the truth there was no way she could test it. It would risk the girl getting free. However if it was the truth, as she was inclined to believe, then Cosmina had nothing to worry about from this girl. It was time for another question.
"What do you remember?"
She would withhold clarification until the girl asked for it. Cosmina had a feeling she would but there was no point in letting the girl know exactly what she was asking for until she was sure she couldn't answer it without doing so. After all, she might let something slip.
Mina had to punch the girl to get her to answer. When she did answer the only thing she said was sore. Was she being sarcastic or was that simply the only thing she could think to say. Regardless Mina took another swing at her, aimed close to the knife wound the girl sported without actually hitting it.
"Anything else?"
She gave the girl time to answer and wandered slowly over to her table of tools. Perhaps a few solid hits with a pipe? Or maybe a few more knife wounds? Choosing the right tool was so difficult sometimes. Eventually she selected a small knife. It wouldn't do much damage. In fact she would have to target something close to the surface and vital in order to do anything near life threatening with it. However it would do quite nicely for extracting information. Mina recalled the second question on the list and asked it rather casually from behind the girl.
"Excellent." Mina paused between her reaction to what the girl had said and asking the next question, "What are your powers?"
This was a question Mina was somewhat interested in. Getting the details of the ability from the girl herself could be useful if she ever had to face her in a fight. Her employer probably already knew the answer to this one too. The questions were such that Mina suspected some definite prior history between the two. Done with her tools for the moment Cosmina walked slowly back into the girl's view. As she got close enough to see she toyed with the knife before trailing it's point down the girl's arm without breaking the skin. Just a small reminder of the penalty for lies or withholding information.
With the list of questions in her pocket for quick access Cosmina made her way downstairs and into the basement she'd set the girl up in. The girl was bound and Mina had used duct tape to ensure she didn't have to deal with any questions or comments until the interrogation. Mina's face was still covered by her mask as she walked over to the recording equipment and switched it all on. That done she walked over to a table outside of the girl's field of vision where her tools were located. Everything seemed to be in place. She walked over and tore the tape off of the girl's mouth.
"I'm going to ask questions and you're going to answer. You're a smart girl. You should know how this works. You don't answer or answer incorrectly and I hurt you."
Mina smiled and the voice she used was pleasant and much different in tone from her usual one. It wasn't normally a precaution she took but the letter had mentioned voices often enough to make Cosmina suspicious and thus she'd made sure to do her best to change her voice. Thinking back to the list of questions Mina recited the first, word for word.
"How do you feel?"
It was a ridiculous question and only her employer knew why she was asking it. Why ask a kidnapping victim how they were feeling? It was foolish. If it weren't for the money she planned to extract from her employer for the inconvenience of being on a no kill order she wouldn't have asked it. Mina was a professional and thus she would execute the mission to the letter. She didn't have to like.
In a particular neighborhood of New York City there was an old ramshackle building. It had been boarded up and closed off for many years now. Much of the time people wondered why it hadn't been bought and knocked down. It was an eyesore to those who lived and worked nearby. It was also convenient for Cosmina's purposes and owned by a previous client who owed her a favor or two. That he happened to use the building for nearly the same thing was coincidental at best.
The girl was already tied up in the basement. Video and audio equipment had been set up and tested as per the mission parameters. It still irked her that she couldn't kill the girl when she was done. It was a risk that Mina didn't like to take. The divorce between her public persona and her mercenary work was what kept her safe from the nosy interference of the police. They hadn't linked her to her crimes and she didn't like leaving someone alive that could. The letter was quite clear though.
Dear Plunderer of Souls,
I am happy to announce that it is YOU that I have chosen to capture someone I'm very interested in. Of course I know your kind; you're more interested in money. Believe me when I say that money is no issue and I can pay you your usual fee...and double that if and when the job gets done. However, this will not be a normal kidnapping. You see, I have questions for this little girl, nothing important really, merely trivial. The delivery of these questions must be precise, word for word. Throw in a menacing voice on the good ones, I'm sure you're practiced at that. Most mercenaries I know practice their threatening looks and baleful voices in the shower, or in font of a mirror of they're feeling particularly comfortable with their bodies at that current time.
So, to get your money I'm going to have to set few ground rules. One, she is not to die. I would threaten you with some dire consequence but I don't believe I need to; from what I’ve heard you are an utmost professional and as you know reputation in this business is EVERYTHING. Moving on; Two, she is not to be maimed, by which I mean loss of limbs or vital organs or any such thing. She is to be intact when you finish questioning her. And finally number three; have fun!! We may be in a dirty game, my dear, but that doesn’t mean we can't have a smile on our face when it's all said and done.
So, without further adieu, attached are the list of questions I'd like you to ask her. I'll have some notes at the end of each one in case she needs clarification. Young kids these days, am I right? Always needing clarification.
I don't think I need to tell you to please record the session, both with audio and video, but I will anyways...oh! Look at that. I just did.
With Many Strawberries, Wipe
Mina shook her head. Plunderer of Souls was such a tacky name. When she met the woman for payment of the rest of what she was owed she'd have to make it clear that she wasn't in the market for another codename. Mute worked well enough. She folded the letter up and stuffed it back into a pocket. She'd leave the girl to stew for a few more minutes before going down and asking the questions she was being paid to ask. The letter had specified no killing or maiming. Therefore anything that would leave permanent damage was fair game. At the very least she could take out the breach of her security on the girl.
Mina checked the blindfold after the girl had put it on. It was secure and it didn't need any adjusting. The girl could barely speak with any sort of sense. If Mina were one to conjecture about her targets beyond what was needed for the job she'd guess it had to do with the loss of memory mentioned in the letter she'd received about the job in the first place. The girl was taking far too long to get up for Mina's taste but she managed it before the woman lost her patience and forced the girl onto her feet. More importantly the girl was talking and asking questions.
Mina moved and grabbed the girl's shoulder with one hand to direct her movement. The other hand held her gun which was pressing into the girl's side as a reminder not to try anything stupid.
"You don't talk unless I ask a question. Now we're going to leave this place and go somewhere nice and cozy for a little chat."
With that Mina forcefully turned the girl and headed her toward the back. She suspected that the man that had been in here moments earlier had used the same route. Her smile widened. Perhaps they'd meet some time and discuss such things. Perhaps they'd be trying to kill each other while they did so. Or they may never meet face to face at all. All that was left was to get out to the vehicle, rented under the name of a criminal acquaintance still at large, and head to where she'd set up.
Mina wondered how often she'd met a client or co-worker in the park. Of course it was always after dark and if it weren't for the convenience of it Mina would have felt like a common thug. After all, good people who had common sense and reported illicit activity to the cops stayed away from the parks of the city once night began to fall. The reputation for danger made such places good for this sort of thing and amusingly enough her presence there reinforced the danger. Mina's smile widened as she thought about it.
Her accomplice for this particular activity was due any moment. Or perhaps they'd already arrived and were simply waiting and watching? Mina would have to give them credit if that was the case. Proper precautions were important. This was why Mina was armed and keeping her own watch over her surroundings. The usual night noises washed over Cosmina but nothing sounded amiss at the moment. That was the important part to her. With her ability to stop sound she'd come to place an importance on that sense that went far and above the other senses.
Her mutation would likely be helpful on this mission. Unlike the others she'd gotten recently, this one was an honest to goodness assassination. Oh the other jobs were nice and had paid well but nothing beat assassination for a good solid pay out. For some reason people put incredible amounts of money on the life of another. Mina didn't understand why but she used it to her advantage often enough. Mina didn't enjoy her job, she enjoyed the money it put in her bank accounts.
Mina had tracked the target of her assignment to a clinic. It was plain and ordinary. Therefore Mina was suspicious of it. During a mission she was suspicious of most things though. However the presence of the girl at a clinic provided an opportunity for her. It suggested that the girl was injured. If this was the case then it would be easier to apprehend her. She'd gotten there just after the girl had gone into the place and watched and waited. She wasn't the only one with business with those inside today it seemed. Mina kept well out of the way. In the wake of the chaos caused by the man it would be easy to grab the girl.
In truth it had been a cake walk. With a smile on her face and a gun in her hand anyone left in the place had stayed well out of her way. Something about seeing one of the other employees murdered in front of them had put them off of trying to keep armed people out. She couldn't fathom why. Other people were strange that way. It made her job easier. After a couple of minutes searching she found the girl. She was on the floor injured and in bad condition. Mina's customary grin widened. This was simply too easy. Mina knelt down and put the barrel of her gun square between the girl's eyes. That would keep her busy when she woke.
And wake she did. Mina noticed the girl's eyes flickering open. They immediately focused on the gun. That was a good thing. Mina's hand dove into a pocket and pulled out a strip of cloth. It would be easier for her if the girl could move under her own power. However she didn't want her seeing where she was going. Secrecy and all of that. She tossed the strip of cloth in front of the girl's face and gestured to it.
"Blindfold yourself, please. Otherwise I might have to shoot you and do it myself."
Her voice was pleasant and cheerful, if a tad lower than usual. It, along with the knit mask she wore were for her own protection. She didn't need the girl identifying her to the police.
A lazy shrug was Mina's response to CS's compliment about her fighting ability. The fight was over, the thugs were down, and now as he was in league with the cops he had to call it in. That was fine. She'd be long gone before the cops showed up. Twice in one night was too much chance. There was no saying that the next bunch that responded wouldn't be the ones that had responded to the theft. It was a very minor chance but Mina hadn't lived this long by taking those chances without knowing more. As such she preferred to get out of there.
"I have a good teacher who has had plenty of experience in fighting. He's served me well."
Thankfully Sam was quite willing to allow her to leave. He was right in surmising that she wouldn't want to want until he got off of work.
"It's alright. The chance to fight along side some capable back up was well worth the trouble of putting a few fools on the floor."
Sam extended a hand for a handshake and expressed an interest in seeing her again. She suspected he would see her again. The question was would it be over a dinner table or the barrel of her gun? Having fluid alliances tended to see to it that a person she had fought beside one day frequently ended up dead by her hand the next. She grasped the hand that was offered.
"Oh I'm certain we'll meet again."
As Mina made to let go and walk away she felt instead Sam tug her toward him. She would have been as idiotic as the men they'd fought if she didn't realize what he was going to do. Therefore she allowed the ice wielding mutant to kiss her and returned it with interest. He was after all handsome. If he got too clingy or caught on to her business then she could simply kill him or make sure that he didn't see her again. Upon parting from him she withdrew a small business card with the number for one of her non-business cell phones on it and pressed it into his hand.
"In case you'd like to try this again some time."
With that Mina sashayed out of the bar and headed toward her car, bathed in the red and blue lights that indicated the arrival of the police.
Mina grinned wider at his assessment of why their attackers sucked quite as much as they did.
"Then they are as stupid as they are bad in a fight. There is no such thing as overkill."
Of course she tried to avoid using a lot of force in a fight simply because it tended to be expensive. However expensive was a small trade off in exchange for the assurance that someone she'd killed would stay dead.
Mina recovered quickly from ducking under the punch, using the opportunity to abuse the man's midsection some more with a punch that landed just below his ribs. He in turn attempted strike her with a knee to the face but Mina was very well versed in kicks due to her savate training and simply blocked it. She then used his knee as leverage to return to a full standing position quickly.
Most of Mina's attention was on her fight. It wouldn't take too much longer to wrap up. The man was wearing down and barely looked like he could throw a punch. That was her in opinion very sad. His girlfriend or boyfriend must have been very disappointed. Mina was about to say something to that affect when the floor iced up beneath her feet. Another display of Sam's powers. Mina knew better than to attempt anything on the suddenly slick surface. Even with Sam behind her, something that cause Mina to smirk, she didn't want to leave an opening for her opponent. While Mina remained in a ready position and did nothing the goon attempted to attack. He overextended and lost his balance. After a few precious moments of comical pinwheeling with his arms he fell flat on his face.
Mina spared Sam a glance and grin. He seemed to be doing well enough for himself. The moron that had started the fight was already pinned to the wall courtesy of some ice.
"I can't help it if they are all too weak to provide a challenge for me. They just need to get better or learn not to pick fights they can't win."
Mina selected another combatant and turned her focus to him. He was much more wary than the first. It was one thing if they thought they could catch her and use her as a hostage or other such nonsense. However she had just demonstrated that she was in fact dangerous. The man that she had easily put on the floor attested to that. He wouldn't be getting back up either thanks to Sam. That ice power of his was coming in handy. She smirked at his comment.
"I'll be careful then. Wouldn't want you to fall too hard."
That said she lashed out at her selected victim with a series of three kicks. The first and second didn't connect but he could not dodge the third and Mina's foot connected with the man's stomach. He retaliated by swinging at her. Mina simply ducked under the punch. Such pathetic fighters these fools were.
A good deed. That was what Mina realized she'd done with a start. Or at least something resembling one. Mina settled up with the bartender as Lenna had done. She however did not have a man to drag out of the bar with her. That was a pity but not one that she cared to indulge in. Mina had had enough whinging about men for the night. Now she didn't even care to continue looking for a rich fool. No, Mina would head back to her home and perhaps dig up a job. There were no cares that money could not ease.
With that thought and the bill having been paid Mina stood and exited the bar. With a raised eyebrow Mina regarded Lenna and the object of her drunken worrying. It seemed he had gotten the right idea after all if that lean was anything to go by.
"Here I thought she might actually have some sense in her head."
The statement was muttered with a straight face, a rarity for Mina. Her smile was back quickly though. She'd head to her car and head home. The lovebirds could be left to their mutual doom for all she cared. Saving people from themselves wasn't her job. At least, not without a substantial payment.
Mina's grin widened as Lenna turned and took action. She pulled this Michael fellow into a kiss. That was the appropriate action to take. Though he didn't seem all that happy about it. In fact all he did was accuse her of being drunk. Lenna probably was drunk but he ought to have reacted beyond that. Perhaps this was what Lenna meant when she'd said he was too good? If that was the case then he was a depressing waste of time. Especially for a woman who had finally found the courage to actually do something about her ridiculous attraction to him.
"Well that's a step in the right direction Lenna. But he seems a bit confused. You might want to clarify."
Mina eyed this Michael character and then settled her gaze back on Lenna. If Lenna didn't say something then Mina would. It wasn't any of her business but she'd wasted valuable flirting time on listening to the woman grouse about whether or not he actually liked her. That meant that she would take steps to resolve it if necessary so that if she met Lenna again she wouldn't have to be inconvenienced in this fashion again.
The woman wasn't without patience though. Mina could wait and see if Lenna could finish this thing herself. It would be better that way and Mina wouldn't have to get overly involved in strangers' affairs.
