The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

The man said nothing. He watched her at her work but said nothing. So he was the silent type it seemed. He only spoke after giving her the once over once her task was complete. A grin to rival her own sprung up on his face and his words made her smirk. Mina took the time to note that though his knife was sheathed it wasn't far from his hand. It made her comfortable to see that. A distrustful assassin was a known quantity to her. She understood the type and how they worked. That made them so much easier to deal with. Her gun remained in her hand but the arm was loose and held less uneasy tension.
"Falcone and Wayne both actually. They both owe me a few so I get first crack at any of their jobs. Wayne pays better but Falcone gives jobs more often. With how much dirt she was getting from sniffing around it's no wonder they got jumpy."
Mina could have left out that she was always offered jobs from the two gangsters first. However if there was a new guy in town he needed to know what her turf was. He would have found out eventually anyway. As she awaited his answer Mina decided how she would handle him. He wasn't like her toy. He'd be no fun to play with since he seemed awfully serious and just as likely to gut her rather than put up with an annoyance that was also competition. Nope, this guy was dangerous and not to be toyed with unless she developed a death wish. He went into the pile of other mercenaries and assassins that had skills an no humor.
Going by that, Mina was under no illusion that she was out of danger. She was his competition and this meant he wouldn't be getting paid. If she'd been of a more generous nature Mina would have considered splitting the take with him. As it was...she'd only do that if he forced the issue. He did earn part of it by taking down the bodyguards but she wasn't foolish enough to offer him a cut if he was willing to walk away without one.
Mina smirked as the new old guy finished his fight and then took the target's ring in an attempt to draw her out. She grinned widely. It was a good move. Her sniper rifle quickly found it's way into the bag she'd brought with her and her 9mm found it's way into her hand. It wouldn't do to be caught without a weapon on hand if he decided to kill her to ensure that he got paid instead. Mina slipped down from her sniping position with her bag slung over one shoulder. She walked over to the bloody scene casually with a grin on her face.
"So nice of you to collect my proof for me. Well, part of it anyway."
With that, and her gun in plain sight, Mina let the bag drop to the ground and opened it with her free hand. She withdrew a bone saw from the bag that looked as though it had seen use before.
"I like to be thorough you see and some clients take wanting their enemies' head literally."
She then waltzed over to the woman's corpse and began to search the area around it until she found the rifle round she'd put through the woman's head. She pocketed that and then turned to the body. The grin never slipped from her face as she removed her own proof from the body and brought it back over to her bag. She removed a plastic bag from the severed head in it before put it, the bullet, and the bone saw inside. Mina zipped it back up and hoisted the slightly heavier bag to her shoulder once more. Only then did she return her attention to the other assassin fully.
It didn't take long to collect was she needed for the hit and stow it in a middling class suit case. During the ride Cosmina memorized their covers detail for detail. She'd done this sort of thing before and it wouldn't do to be caught due to a slip in the cover. Like Lenna she allowed her luggage to be carried for her when they got to the hotel. After sorting out her own suitcase Mina took a seat on the bed. Lenna was of course right, they'd need to be sharp tomorrow.
She ran over the details of the target, mission, and their covers a few more times in her head. It all seemed straightforward but she wasn't about to account it a perfect plan and stop thinking of things to do in contingencies. Mina laid back with plans running through her head an her usual smile on her lips.
Mina put aside the rifle and watched. Whoever had hired the man had chosen well. He was good at what he did. Whoever he was he looked like he had plenty of training and experience to back that up. Mina's smile transformed into a grin. She'd taken care of the target and now he was doing the clean up for her. It honestly couldn't have worked out better from her point of view. Of course he'd probably be annoyed that someone had stolen his kill but really it was just business.
"Don't know who you are," she muttered as her grin widened, "but you're fun to watch."
She sat back to see how this other would handle it. One guard was easily dispatched and then used as a shield to prevent being perforated by bullets. Mina rolled her eyes at the remaining guard.
Shoot first and shout stupidity later. He'll kill him before the fool has a chance to do a thing.
Sure enough the man, who she guessed had a knife of some sort, made a throwing motion. He'd probably thrown a knife at the remaining guard. Mina's eyes fixed on the target with curiosity. Knife throwing wasn't Mina's cup of tea but she was interested to see if this man could pull it off. From what she'd seen she figured he would.
Her shoulder rose and fell in an unconcerned shrug. Sure it would be inconvenient to be unable to silence things when her associate was nearby but considering that her power didn't affect her ability to kill in the least she didn't see that it would be too much of a problem.
"Not an issue. I nullify sound. The stopping power of my bullets won't be affected by the loss of that."
Mina's smiled tugged upward for a second. Being able to put mutant powers out of commission had to be useful in this line of work. With Lenna about the psychiatrist wouldn't be able to use his power. One less variable was good.
Angela Baklava had enemies. That tended to happen when you started targeting crime families for justice. Cosmina adjusted her rifle a bit. It had been extraordinarily stupid of the woman in question to start putting such wealthy people in prison. And when a few of those people put in prison were either Cosmina's contacts or close associates of said then you were just bound to end up on the wrong side of Cosmina's gun. She was getting a decent amount just to sit here and point this gun at her. Once she actually took the shot she'd be getting paid even more.
Once the woman stepped out of her vehicle it was show time. Cosmina waited a moment or two to ensure that the woman wasn't going to simply get back in and drive off. Then she squeezed her trigger and watched the bullet as it sped forward. Angela Baklava sank to the ground with a through and through bullet wound in her skull. The effect on the two guards as just as instantaneous as the work of the bullet. They were immediately alert. One spent all of half a minute checking their charge and ensuring that she was good and dead while the other withdrew a gun of his own.
The one that checked the cooling body seemed to notice something behind his partner's back because he was darting toward that area now at a fair clip. Perhaps she hadn't been the only assassin on the pier tonight? Cosmina shrugged, it wasn't any of her business that one of the other families had hired someone else and that that someone else had decided to use an up close and personal method. Settling back behind her scope Cosmina set up another shot and waited. If there was another assassin there then she would try not to clip him with a bullet. But then again she didn't really care either way. It was just a little professional courtesy.
With a frozen coffee drink in hand Cosmina strolled the streets of New York. She hadn't paid a lick of a attention to what the thing she was drinking was supposed to be. It was cold and tasted of coffee and lemon. It wasn't horrible and a cold drink was good to have. She was taking a day to herself after a recent job or two. They'd paid well but had been rather exhausting. Therefore the woman was taking some time to unwind in the city. Perhaps she'd run across a robbery she could take part in as a lark.
An hour's walking proved that she'd have no such luck today. There wasn't even anyone interesting on the streets today. Just the boring normal people. Where was a thug or violent mutant when you needed them? Cosmina almost pouted. Her toy was still missing too so she couldn't play with him either. She tossed her half finished coffee aside, paying no attention to who or what it landed on.
Just as Cosmina was debating on giving up and going back to the warehouse she noticed a commotion of some sort at the other end of the block and headed her way fast. Maybe there would be something interesting to do after all. Her smile twisted into a smirk as she instinctively reached for her purse. Purses were slightly annoying but they made an excellent place to conceal a handgun. Assured that her weapon was there if she should need it she waited for whatever was parting the crowds and knocking people down with anticipation.
A busy hotel. She'd have to bring her silencer then. At the mention of infiltration and Lenna's questioning on whether Mina was familiar with it her lips twitched in amusement.
"No need to worry. I can play dress up just fine."
Another instant of thought and Mina looked over at Lenna again.
"Anything else or shall we get the show on the road?"
A grin spread across Mina's face. She was starting to look forward to this job.
Mina gave a nod as her smile turned thoughtful. The woman didn't sound like she'd be any problem. Maybe unpredictable due to her mental illness and history of drug use but beyond that she would be a simple mark. It was the man that drew her attention. He could be trouble if he touched one of them and got away. She didn't anticipate any such issues but it was a possibility.
"Sounds simple enough. Any complications that we're aware of at this time? Specific instructions for either target?"
A plan never survived first contact, or so the saying went. That didn't mean it didn't hurt to make one and try and reduce the unknowns. She would ask after her partner's status. Mina hadn't learned much about the woman when they'd previously met.
Mina recognized the dismissal of topic for what it was. Lenna wasn't going to talk about. The woman seemed to become more uptight as she directed the talk to business. Cosmina's smile remained firmly in place as she nodded at Lenna.
"That would be correct. We will be working together? Or are you simply here to relay information?"
Mina looked over at the familiar voice and her smile became a bit larger. However it wasn't a good smile. Her eyes were calculating as she looked at Lenna. Mina hadn't expected to meet the woman again, much less on a job. This wasn't good. This woman could put a name and a face to her deeds. That made the woman uneasy. However there was nothing to be done about it at the moment. She doubted that she'd be paid for the job if she killed her compatriot.
"Did you have a good time with the man at least? It would be a shame if he wasn't any good."
Her voice was warm but the warmth was false as always. It was perhaps a bit more noticeable now than usual though. The idea of someone having leverage over her by virtue of knowing her name and face was abhorrent to Cosmina.
Mina laughed. It was a cold laugh. The sort of laugh that actors worked on for ages so they'd have the perfect laugh for that villain part they wanted. Mina produced it flawlessly in mockery of the girl in the chair that had just promised to find her. Keeping to the same deeper tone of voice she had used the entire time Cosmina responded while she walked over to the table and picked up a bottle and a cloth. It was chloroform. It would work well enough to put the girl out while she cleaned up and executed a clean up plan that had started forming the moment the girl had sworn she'd find her.
"You can try."
Mina liberally coated the cloth and held it to the girl's mouth and nose. It wouldn't take long.
"Now you just rest."
Mina had to clean up here, gather her things, get back to her place and get rid of the evidence. From there she'd change her outfit, put the girl in her car, and drive her to the clinic. If she wasn't allowed to kill her then manipulating her into thinking that the same woman who had been her captor was the one that found her and brought her somewhere safe would serve in death's stead. If the girl did find out then she could kill her. The letter said nothing about not killing her after completing the job and receiving payment.
They were finally almost done. There was just one question left and then Cosmina could get rid of the girl and go collect her payment. The girl was nearly at the end of her rope by the looks of it. It didn't look like she'd stay conscious for much longer. Recalling the instructions for the last question to her mind Cosmina walked behind the girl and grabbed her by the chin. She pulled the girl's head backward until it was parallel to the back of the chair and leaned down close to her ear. Cosmina pitched her voice down even further, made it dark and venomous.
"Last question girl." she paused, "Are you the reason Whistler is dead?"
The words had bite to them in that tone of voice. Once she was done with this the girl would be allowed the release from pain that unconsciousness would bring. That would give Cosmina a chance to clean things up here, get the girl ready for transport, and perhaps with luck even dispose of her before she woke up. Maybe she'd even be nice enough to toss her out onto the sidewalk in front of the clinic she'd taken her from. If she was feeling generous. As it was she was more contemplating just leaving the girl tied up outside where someone would eventually find her.
Cosmina's smile waned a bit. On a normal person this would be a frown. Her were a mix of cheer and annoyance as the girl got fiesty. She walked over to the chair and applied the taser again. Once she left off of that Mina tossed the taser to the side for a minute and wrapped one hand around the girl's throat to cut off her air.
"I didn't give you leave to shout or talk back. Remember, you're at my mercy and I can kill you whenever I want. Now answer the question. Why did you escort the human female home?"
Whoever this other girl was didn't matter. This girl was one of those people that would happily give their own life for another person's. Wasn't it better to let the other person died instead of having to experience the inconvenience of death yourself? Why did people like that do such things? Cosmina didn't think she would ever know. She choked the girl for a moment more before releasing her so that she could speak freely and retrieving the taser from the spot where she'd tossed it.
The girl was frustrated, though perhaps angry was the better word. Two questions in a row about her past apparently put her in a bad mood. Just on general purposes and to make sure the girl remembered her place Cosmina gave the girl a good solid punch to the gut. The note had suggested a punch but it didn't say where. She answered though. She mentioned someone called Whistler and that she'd been taught Muay Thai. Cosmina didn't really care about this Whistler fellow. Sure he'd come up in the last question but she didn't care. Now the Muay Thai training, that was interesting. It was another capability that Cosmina committed to memory in case she should fight the girl sometime.
"Several nights ago you were with a human female. You escorted her home. Why?"
Cosmina retreated a few steps and leaned against a wall. This interrogation was frankly dull. The note had said to have fun. This wasn't Cosmina's idea of fun. Perhaps if she let the girl heal up and then hunted her down for a fight. That would be fun. Or she could go out on the town after this was over and find someone interesting to spend the night with. Mina's attention remained fixed on the red headed girl while she decided which bar to go to.
