The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Mina wondered how often she'd met a client or co-worker in the park. Of course it was always after dark and if it weren't for the convenience of it Mina would have felt like a common thug. After all, good people who had common sense and reported illicit activity to the cops stayed away from the parks of the city once night began to fall. The reputation for danger made such places good for this sort of thing and amusingly enough her presence there reinforced the danger. Mina's smile widened as she thought about it.
Her accomplice for this particular activity was due any moment. Or perhaps they'd already arrived and were simply waiting and watching? Mina would have to give them credit if that was the case. Proper precautions were important. This was why Mina was armed and keeping her own watch over her surroundings. The usual night noises washed over Cosmina but nothing sounded amiss at the moment. That was the important part to her. With her ability to stop sound she'd come to place an importance on that sense that went far and above the other senses.
Her mutation would likely be helpful on this mission. Unlike the others she'd gotten recently, this one was an honest to goodness assassination. Oh the other jobs were nice and had paid well but nothing beat assassination for a good solid pay out. For some reason people put incredible amounts of money on the life of another. Mina didn't understand why but she used it to her advantage often enough. Mina didn't enjoy her job, she enjoyed the money it put in her bank accounts.
This assassination was a unique case. One didn't often get called to kill the members of their boss's family.
Lenna had arrived early at the park. She'd decided to scope out her 'partner' to make sure she was as good as some had said. Finally, the woman had arrived. Suffice it to say, Lenna had been surprised at the deja vu.
The blond woman approached her partner out of the shadows, hands stuffed into the pockets of her black leather jacket. "Cosmina, right?" She hadn't let the woman wait long. This was a thing to address. They'd met. "I never thought I'd see you again." At least, not without a drink in her hand.
Mina looked over at the familiar voice and her smile became a bit larger. However it wasn't a good smile. Her eyes were calculating as she looked at Lenna. Mina hadn't expected to meet the woman again, much less on a job. This wasn't good. This woman could put a name and a face to her deeds. That made the woman uneasy. However there was nothing to be done about it at the moment. She doubted that she'd be paid for the job if she killed her compatriot.
"Did you have a good time with the man at least? It would be a shame if he wasn't any good."
Her voice was warm but the warmth was false as always. It was perhaps a bit more noticeable now than usual though. The idea of someone having leverage over her by virtue of knowing her name and face was abhorrent to Cosmina.
>>"Did you have a good time with the man at least? It would be a shame if he wasn't any good."
"Coffee," Lenna said decidedly. "Was great. But now isn't really the time to be discussing that, is it." She added, all business. "You're here to hear about the job."
Mina recognized the dismissal of topic for what it was. Lenna wasn't going to talk about. The woman seemed to become more uptight as she directed the talk to business. Cosmina's smile remained firmly in place as she nodded at Lenna.
"That would be correct. We will be working together? Or are you simply here to relay information?"
"Our targets are George and Elaine Adler." She took a moment to give Cosmina a run-down of the two targets appearances, jobs, and any other relevant information.
George Michael Adler was in his late 40s, 200 lbs, 5'11", with bifocals and short brown hair. He had some minor scarring on his forehead and neck. A black BMW. He was a touch-based psychic, with the power to sift through memories. Full access.
Elaine Lilian Adler was in her late 40's. 150ish pounds. 5'4". Blonde hair. Blue eyes. Lenna skipped background. The fact the woman was the mother of four was irrelevant. Her ex-husband's two, Lori and George, were unlikely to be of issue (especially Lori, caller of the hit), and her current husband's kids were far too young. She didn't draw Cosmina's eyes to the connection between Lori Faust of Faust Pharmaceutical, or George's connection to Elaine. That he had been consulting physician for the woman, before they'd married, just didn't matter at the moment. What mattered was the woman's mindset, and her personality.
"She's a reformed drug addict, turned soccer mom. Bipolar. Wouldn't trust her. Mutation, unconfirmed. They're in Brooklyn, this weekend. Our orders are to take them out."
Mina gave a nod as her smile turned thoughtful. The woman didn't sound like she'd be any problem. Maybe unpredictable due to her mental illness and history of drug use but beyond that she would be a simple mark. It was the man that drew her attention. He could be trouble if he touched one of them and got away. She didn't anticipate any such issues but it was a possibility.
"Sounds simple enough. Any complications that we're aware of at this time? Specific instructions for either target?"
A plan never survived first contact, or so the saying went. That didn't mean it didn't hurt to make one and try and reduce the unknowns. She would ask after her partner's status. Mina hadn't learned much about the woman when they'd previously met.
"They've got reservations for the New York Marriott, by the Brooklyn Bridge. There's a psychiatrist conference at the hotel. It's going to be busy. We'll need to infiltrate." Lenna briefly considered Cosmina. "You are familiar with infiltration, correct?" She asked. "You may need to wear a costume."
There'd be many psychiatrists at the convention. Too many possible discerning eyes. They'd have to be careful. Luckily, psychiatrists rarely questioned the motives of maids.
A busy hotel. She'd have to bring her silencer then. At the mention of infiltration and Lenna's questioning on whether Mina was familiar with it her lips twitched in amusement.
"No need to worry. I can play dress up just fine."
Another instant of thought and Mina looked over at Lenna again.
"Anything else or shall we get the show on the road?"
A grin spread across Mina's face. She was starting to look forward to this job.
"One last thing," Lenna noted seriously. "It's a biggie." She paused, arched an eyebrow, then continued. "I unconsciously nullify mutant powers in a 10 foot radius around me."
Yes, that would potentially make the mission more difficult. Or more easy? She'd let Cosmina be the judge.
Her shoulder rose and fell in an unconcerned shrug. Sure it would be inconvenient to be unable to silence things when her associate was nearby but considering that her power didn't affect her ability to kill in the least she didn't see that it would be too much of a problem.
"Not an issue. I nullify sound. The stopping power of my bullets won't be affected by the loss of that."
Mina's smiled tugged upward for a second. Being able to put mutant powers out of commission had to be useful in this line of work. With Lenna about the psychiatrist wouldn't be able to use his power. One less variable was good.
"Excellent," Lenna said. "In that case, let's go."
Turning, Lenna gestured for the woman to follow her. Their ride awaited. Together, the two left Central Park and hit the road.
They hit the road running. It didn't take long before they'd arrived at their destination. Lenna hauled out her luggage, and passed the keys for their ride off to the valet.
The best way to blend in at a psychiatric convention was to be another face in the crowd. One of the many doctors, on-scene. Lenna had given Cosmina the rundown on their covers, on the ride to the hotel. When lying, it paid to be specific. She'd set the woman up with luggage to house and hide any equipment the two might need. She made sure everything was in order before they went to their room. She even let the lovely bellboy handle hauling. He thought she had some really heavy shoes in her bag. It was quaint.
Luggage settled in, Lenna plopped down on the queen-sized mattress. She addressed her accomplice. "The conference starts tomorrow. We arrived early. You know our cover story. Tomorrow, we'll put it to work. Rest up."
It didn't take long to collect was she needed for the hit and stow it in a middling class suit case. During the ride Cosmina memorized their covers detail for detail. She'd done this sort of thing before and it wouldn't do to be caught due to a slip in the cover. Like Lenna she allowed her luggage to be carried for her when they got to the hotel. After sorting out her own suitcase Mina took a seat on the bed. Lenna was of course right, they'd need to be sharp tomorrow.
She ran over the details of the target, mission, and their covers a few more times in her head. It all seemed straightforward but she wasn't about to account it a perfect plan and stop thinking of things to do in contingencies. Mina laid back with plans running through her head an her usual smile on her lips.
With a sigh, Lenna laced her fingers behind her head. She stared at the ceiling for one tick of the clock. Then, she glanced over Cosmina's way.
"Fine," She said. "I know I said rest up, but... I'm not tired yet. And, I know you're dying to talk about something that isn't the mission." If she wasn't, Lenna was.
It had been a long time since she'd done one of these types of missions. She wasn't used to it anymore. Even if she could pull off all the professionalism, all the skills, it was still not something she wanted to dwell on too long. She'd always made excuses before. Excuses now, she saw, were kind of silly. They still worked, of course, but... silly. Kinda. Whatever.
Mina glanced over from her mental planning as Lenna began to speak. What was there to say? Mina couldn't think of anything fun or interesting to talk about. Lenna had already made it clear that she didn't intend to provide details about her crush or whatever the weakness was to her. She certainly didn't have anything to say. She was quite unused to talking if she wasn't interested or had nothing to gain by it. Her smile stayed in place though.
"Something not the mission? What did you have in mind?"
Mina tilted her head a little. Was this to be girl talk or whatever that female bonding thing was called? She had no experience with that. She could fake polite chatter at parties, intimate conversation with a male target on a long term assignment, and any number of things in between. Girl talk was entirely foreign though. She'd never really gotten close enough to anyone to share even a sliver of truthful information with them, let alone another woman.
