The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

>>“Everything’s fine. I take it that ‘everything is fine’ with you too?”
"Perfect." Gemma smiled, and that was it. There had been no big deal in the Mansion since the attack by Agnes' parents, and Jorge knew all about that, because he was there. So.
Gemma got in his car; it smelled familiar, like him, and she was starting to relax. He agreed without words that there would be no talk of work tonight. Then again, they talked a lot about work. It would definitely leave some gaps in the conversation... Not that she minded some silence every once in a while.
"The kids called today" she told him with a smile, changing the subject "They said they might visit for a few days before school starts again."

>>“Well first all, we’re going to put some food in you. With our work schedules, I doubt either of us has had a decent meal. But, the rest of the evening…well…you’ll just have to come with me to find out, now won’t you?”
"You had me at 'food'" she grinned, and blushed a bit at the kiss, because it felt good, and she was wearing a dress, and dresses call for blushing. And she really was hungry.
Walking out to his car, she leaned against him, feeling better with every step they took away from the Mansion. She loved the place to bits, but just like in every good relationship, she needed some alone time every once in a while.
"Let's not talk about work tonight" she said "Just... tell me if everything's fine, okay? I think we both dserve some time away from our jobs."

>>“Someone secretly wish for a handsome kidnapper?”
"You have no idea" she chuckled, glancing back at the paperwork balanced on her desk. She would finish it tomorrow. Hopefully.
Jorge handed her the flowers; she buried her nose in them and smiled. It had been a very long time since he had brought her flowers. It was nice. He deserved a kiss for that alone.
>>“Trust me. If it isn’t, I’ll arrest whoever attempts to give you any.”
"What are we waiting for?" she grinned, kissing him on the cheek this time "I need to go change. I'll meet you in the foyer. Give me two minutes."
Two minutes were enough to brush her hair, change into a decent dress that matched his shirt, freshen up, put the flowers in a vase, and walk down from her room to the foyer. That is how good Gemma taylor was at these things. Smiling, she took his hand.

Gemma was finishing up paperwork. She hated paperwork. Give her anti-mutant zealots or hysterical teenagers over schoool application forms any day. She was happy to deal with things that involved actual human contact. But, she was the mother of the whole mansion, and moms were supposed to take care of things. Because, apparently, nobody else did.
Gemma finished her third cup of coffee with a sigh, and sat back to rest her eyes for a few moments. She only opened them when she heard the door creak.
"Can I help... oh."
It was Jorge. With flowers. Boyfriends with flowers were always most welcome. He was also clean shaven and all dressed up, and she suddenly felt exhausted and dusty.
"Hi" she smiled, standing to walk over to him. They haven't met much since the infamous day of the zealot visit; he was busy with the case, and she was busy with the kids and all their emotions. "Please tell me we are going out to a place where carrying paperwork is strictly forbidden...."

>>“Daughter of Cain! You care to speak to me with such a retched tongue!! Your kind should have never been removed from the dark continents! You dare to speak to me? To keep me away from my own daughter!! She is a hellspawn!! Her presence quickens the End of Days!”
Gemma's eyes narrowed. The woman did not even realize how deep a hole she was digging for herself. Double racism and religious fanatism? Please. The witch was going down.
>>“I will spill anyone’s blood who keeps me from doing my HOLY DUTY!!”
She did not expect the cross. She only had time to brace herself for the stab, shocked that the woman would really go so far as murder. The newt moment, Andrew was pulling her out of the way. And then, Andrew was stabbed.
>>"Drew!... Y-you can't have her. A-and h-how dare you st-stab my friend."
By the time Gemma was on her feet again, a very scared and very determined little gargoyle was standing between them and the enemy. Blood was dripping from the blade, and Andrew was on the floor, a patch of red soaking into the carpet.
Red.
"It's okay, Gina" she stepped up next to the girl, prying the Bible from her fingers. Her voice was calm, so dangerously calm. The woman must have surprised herself by actually stabbin a kid; she just stood there, with a triumphant smile.
"Agnes, Gina, take Andrew out of here to Doc. And then call the NYPD. Ask for Detective Cervantes and the MRC. Go."
As soon as the sentence was over, the Bible swung out in a wide arc and collided with the woman's face. The little gargoyle was right. It really made a suitable weapon. Gemma advanced like an avalanche combined with a mother bear, she twisted, the pulled, and then the woman was backing away from the point of her own blade at her throat until her back hit a bookshelf.
"I don't think I have introduced myself" Gemma kept the blade at her throat, but made sure she could also see the other two from the corner of her eyes "My name is Gemma Taylor, and I am the guidance counselor of the school. I am responsible for all the children, and the staff as well. I am an adapted human, as you saw with your pathetic excuse for an angel, my power is to cancel mutant abilities. That would put me on your side of the crusade, right?"
She glared down the woman, just to make sure she understood.
"I guess it does. So, right now, I guess I am the only thing standing between you and the warth of a few dozen mutants who will soon know that you tried to murder one of their own. See, the problem is, I am not going to be here forever." she leaned against the bookshelf, her hand inches next to her head "Barely just till the police arrives to take you all to prison for life. If they are quick enough, that is." she leaned even closer "Nobody. Hurts. My children."

An evil man who thought he was an angel was burning the living room with cleansing fire. A boy stood between him and his prey. Two people who should have been parents but were turned into demons by their religion were fanning the flames. Apocalypse was now. Until the guidance counselor marched in and went berserk.
She arrived just in time to see Andrew whack the flaming man over the head with a lamp. He staggered back but did not fall. Tere were flames everywhere. Gemma grabbed Andrew by the scruff of his shirt and pulled him out of the way with her left hand; as soon as he was out of the picture, her right came down in a wide half-circe on the man who was not flaming anymore, due to her powers.
SLAP.
It was the loudest slap the Mansion had ever heard. It was the mother of all slaps. It was the slap Eve gave Cain when he came home alone. It was a stinging, eye-watering, open-handed b*tch slap that sent Malachi staggering back against his two masters with a bright red mark on his face.
"That. Was quite. ENOUGH!" Gemma stood, glaring all three of them down, fists on her hips. "You have. Exactly. One mintue to get the f*** out of this building and off school property and then keep driving until you are out of the reach of all the mutants who live in this school. Do I. Make myself clear?!"

Granny laughed. Gemma was surprised; she did not intend to say anything that funny. But the old lady was clearly having fun, so she smiled too, and waited for her to answer her offer. She really was a weird.
>>“No you would not be. I have been a sizable horror all day long. You probably fear what the kids would learn from me. I can tell you though, if you need old people where you are, Ill be happy to come along. And maybe be something less of a horror. With the young ones.”
And then, Gemma laughed too. Granny was not your average jovial grandmother; she was a trickster, and fully aware of it. She was also honest, at least right now, Gemma could tell that much. And definitely the kind of strong woman who could keep the kids in line. (In line for what?) gemma had been playing with the idea for a very long time - having another counselor to take at least part of the job. Not like she was getting bored of it or anything; but she was the only one taking care of things, and if anything happened to her, the Mansion would just fall apart. She was sure of that. So.
"All right" she said, still chuckling "As I said, you are welcome to take a look at the Mansion. We have the best and the worst kids in the country. I feel like I could use some help."

The Apocalypse was on the loose downstairs.
Must be Thursday.
She heard the shouting in her office and was on her way out the door whne the two girls burst in; she only needed to take a look to see how shaken up they were, tears, anger, fear, everything. She did not need a second look to tell which one of them was feeling worse. And that only meant one thing.
I promised.
Also, now that the door was open, she could smell smoke.
"You two get in there and stay put" she said, opening the office door for the girls. She glanced down the hallway towards the living room "How many of them and how many of us?"

>>“Well now I would have to behave like a rational adult then, would I not? I think I can manage that. Honestly, considering that my current accommodation, I would be delighted at being allowed to visit.”
What am I doing?...
Gemma wondered as she glanced around, trying to guess who Granny would trick next, with her powers. The last thing she needed in the Mansion was an old and experienced mutant to teach kids how to misbehave professionally. Why did she have to be a telekinetic? A trickster with a useful mutation was worse than a trickster with a simply annoying one. Although, when it came to tricksters, all powers seemed to have their own creative uses...
"We would be happy to have you" she answered with a smile "Most kids don't have a family outside the Mansion... not one that accepts them, anyway... and even the team leaders are quite young. I think grown-ups would have a good influence on them."

>>“Mhhh only what should I teach? Mutants?”
"People around here could benefit from lectures about mutants" Gemma smirked and watched as Granny ordered for herself "You can never educate them enough."
>>“And now there is that very old, very lovely Lady that takes up your time, too. I think I should feel bad for the Children. And for the adults.”
"They will manage" Gemma grinned "What kind of a mother would I be if I did not allow them some freedom? They have to learn to find the fridge on their own.... although they are doing pretty well with that."
Drink arrived. Gemma sipped her coffee. It saved her life.
"Maybe you would like to visit" she offered "The Mansion is much more than just a school... it's a safe place for any mutant. As long as they behave themselves."
Not like Granny would not know how to behave. Not even implied, no.

>>“I returned, because this is New York. Chemistry I just do to teach some youngsters that Old Women aren't dumb. Maybe it was also because of Stink-bombs.”
Of course. Gemma was more used to dealing with teenagers than with elderly people, but it was starting to dawn on her that the two age groups were not all that much different.
>>“Thank you. This is still a campus I think. There will be Cafés around.”
Gemma locked the car and followed, not even questioning the decision. She could have just decided that it was the school's best interest to find out more about a mutant this powerful (and this lively) in the immediate neighborhood), but to tell the truth, she was kind of intrigued.
>>“So, are you engaged?”
And then she was not.
"Way past that" she smirked "Divorced, with two kids, both in college, not here. How about you? Any grandchildren?"
She could have gone for great-grandchildren. But she was not the cruel kind.

>>“Ah, thank you for bearing with me. It was somewhat fun.”
"I bet" Gemma chuckled. Granny had a refreshingly different idea of fun than most elderly people.
>>“I dont really think the Dean will hold it against me or Mutants. In fact he will probably fire the clerk. I actually have grounds to sue the university on several charges, including discrimination of Veterans, Mutants, Women... those things generally do hamper reputations. And will probably keep this thing under the rug. Those higher up people are most often concerned with appearances only."
She had a point there. Discrimintaion was not a welcome word when it came to the reputation of a university. That was what Gemma had been playing at all the time when she fought the small everyday battles for her students.
"Let's hope" she nodded, not entirely convinced. One could never underestimate the stupidity of people. But then again, she could always get Granny to pay them another visit... Am I really thinking about using an old lady for a thug?...
>> "Might I ask where the car is?”
"Umm, that way." students and people stared at them as they walked across campux, floating box in tow. Some of them snapped pictures. Splendid. "So... how long have you been in New York City? You must be new around here."

Gemma waited and listened, and winced every once in a while as the voices were rising inside the office. She hoped Granny would not get a stroke, or a heart attack or something... even though the clerk sounded more likely to get one. Granny looked like someone who's already survived the dinosaurs. No offense.
When the door finally opened, Gemma's face had an expression of alarm mixed with admiration and amusement, and they walked to the dean together, Gemma always half a step behind to be able to... step in, if things got rough. On either side. They didn't.
Not until the clerk floated out the window, but that would have been a very, very bad time to... step in. Even adapted powers had their limitations. This was definitely not the 'shoot the hostage' kind of situation.
"Oookay" Gemma smirked once all was said and done "I am sure many of my kids will be thrilled to have you for a classmate."
By then, they were out of the building, and Gemma really wished no one would remember her face. It would have taken serious points from all mutant admissions anyway...
"Not the best way to make them accept more mutants to the university, though" she pointed out.
