The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

>>“Famous huh? Imagine that. Well, I’m definitely in no condition to defend myself. Lead the way, you kidnapper.”
Gemma chuckled, and led the way. The building was nice, cozy and quiet; their room was on the second floor, at the end of the hallway. No apples, no trouble.
"So" she grinned once they were inside "I made some calls. Looks like Xavier's and the MRC will be able to function without our supervision for another day or two, since we both have been injured and all." she smirked "And this fine establishment, believe it or not, has no mutants in its lovely staff. Nevertheless, we" she winked at Jorge before she turned the lock on the door "Are staying in this room. It's a hostage situation."

>>“No, no, we should definitely try again. Maybe we can just hole up in my apartment for a weekend and just unplug and turn off all the phones... And I promise…there will be no apples there.”
"That sounds like a plan" she smiled, eyes on the road. It was Sunday morning; if everything had gone according to plan, they woud still be in bed now. But tomorrow - tomorrow meant back to work, either way. That's what Mondays are for. "We should definitely do that."
Too bad the mini-holiday went south like this. Glancing over at Jorge, she smiled again; it was just like them, doing the whole 'I love you' thing in a hospital, after a mutant attack. She really wanted to spend more time with him.
"... or we can just do this." she concluded and turned the wheel; tires screeched as the Impala took the nearest exit, and Gemma chuckled to herself. Good thing her kids would never find out about this.
A few minutes later, the Impala was parked in front of a cozy little building that said Bed & Breakfast, somewhere in the middle of nowhere. Gemma got out, and left Jorge behind, not really bothering with an explanation; the gist of it should have been dawning on him by now, and there was no need to go into details just yet.
A few minutes later she returned, leaning down to look in through the window.
"Guess what, they had a free room, decent meals, and no apples or other fruits whatsoever." she grinned, dangling a set of keys "No reception though, sadly. And they seem to think we are someone famous." she chuckled "So, would you like to go home to your apartment, or would you rather claim I've kidnapped you and held you hostage?"

>>“Okay, Mr. Cervantes, you’re looking pretty good. We should have you out of here by the end of the night. Don’t go pushing yourself too hard again. I know how you got ill, I was informed by the medics, but I’m surprised your heart was able to take that much strain. You be careful out there, understand?... You make sure he takes care of himself, will you?”
"I will." Gemma smiled, shaking hands with the doctor "Thank you."
A few hours more, and he really was out of the hospital. It was early in the morning; Gemma was driving the car, as a result of a short but heated argument with Jorge about whether he could or could not drive in his condition. As usual, she won. So now she was driving the Impala back towards New York City. It was Sunday; a quiet and clear Sunday. The road was almost emply. They had been quiet for a while now.
"Looks like we'll have to take another weekend off to sleep off this one" she chuckled, glancing at Jorge "Just kidding. I'm just as okay with sleeping in my own bed now..."

>>“I think I love you.”
Gemma sighed. It was a happy, content sigh. He was beaten up and exhausted, but he was going to be all right, and so was she. Everything was fine with the world. She hadn't been in love for a very long time. It seemed like... a very long time. She was not lonely, she had kids, and friends, and people she could trust... but someone to care so deeply for, that was something else. She was wise enough to know it when it happened.
"I think I love you too" she said simply, enjoying the embrace for a few quiet moments "... unless that was the medicine talking, in which case, I want some of what you had too." she added with a smirk, kissing him.
It was a nice moment. All right, so not quite perfect, but so what. It was still good for the two of them.
A few mintues later, the doctor came back. He was bound to, sooner or later...

>>“Gemma. I’m…glad that…you’re okay,”
"I'm fine" she smiled, handing him the cup of water. Doctors told her he was dehydrated when they brought him in; it was his connection to his powers that had been strained.
>>“Thanks. I feel exhausted. Like I’ve been running a month long marathon. God, our weekend. Gemma, I’m so sorry. Just seems like we can’t get a moment’s peace, can we?”
"It doesn't matter" she smiled, covering his hand with hers "It's not like it was our fault. Things like this just... happen. On the birght side, we were there to stop most of it."
Leaning over, she hugged him, burying her face in his neck. "Once you get better, we can get out of here, and look for another place to hide... one of them's bound to work."

"Ssssshhh, it's okay, it's okay" Gemma had been sitting by the bed; when Jorge woke up and gasped for air, she leaned over to look at him, and let him see her "I'm here, Jorge, everything is fine."
Holding his hand in one hand, she put her palm against his cheek. The doctors said he was getting better; he was exhausted beyond measure, but that was due to how he overused his powers; he hadn't been hurt that badly. Still, she could imagine he'd be confused.
"It's all right now" she murmured, smiling at him "You did great."
He had been out for the night, and most of the next day; it was getting late in the afternoon, and she had spent several hours sitting by him. He was finally awake; Gemma felt as if a great weight had been lifted off her chest. Leaning over, she kissed him gently on the forehead.

The tree fell. It hit the ground with a deafening crack, and Gemma couldn't help but feel like they just broke someone, a living person, in half. But, on the plus side, the apples fell too, and started to shrink. It looked like it was finally over.
Jorge collapsed.
In the next moment, Gemma was by his side; she put the gun down to be able to hold him up. Chenking to see how bad he got hurt, she felt worried and scared, even though the fight was over.
"You did it" she muttered "You really did it."
Taking a few deep breaths to calm herself down, she collected her thoughts about what to do next. Reaching into Jorge's pockets, she finally found his cellphone. Now the only thing left to do was to call MRC and tell them they had just been attacked by mutant apples. And won.
Once she made all the calls she needed to make, she put the cellphone down. Now they just had to wait till the ambulance, police, MRC, etc. showed up. The orchard was eerily silent; everything was wet, cold, and unmoving. Gemma wrapped her arms around Jorge, and waited.

>>“Gemma! C-cover me…I…I’m going to uproot him! It’s the only way!! I…I have to try!!”
Everything was taking a dive into complete chaos. Gemma raised the gun; an army of apples was charging at them, more than she could possibly shoot with the ammo she had. Jorge was using his powers to the very last drop, quite literally. He was trying to tear a fully grown tree up from the ground.
Gemma kept a safe distance, and watched the apples close in. She waited for them to get closer. There was no use trying to scare them off by shooting at random. So she waited. She aimed. She shot the one that got closest to them.
"C'mon c'mon c'mon" she murmured, trying to ignore Jorge's cries of pain as he forced himself to the very limits of his abilities. She shot another apple. They were actually killing someone. Something. Or something that was left from someone. She did not stop to think about that. Later. She'll have time to think later.

>>“Come on Gemma. I don’t think we’re wanted here any more.”
"And what do you think we should do n..." She never got to finish that sentence. A huge apple fell, straight for Jorge's head; he dodged and rolled, trying to avoid ending up the same way Johnny did. Gemma did the same; she ran for the safety of the only stop in the orchard where they did not hae apples right above them.
>>“B-Blooooood for….blooooood! Al…killed….now…I killllllllll… No one…have her! Not Al…Not YOU!!”
The pieces of the puzzle were starting to fall into place. Jealousy. Murder? Gemma sighed, not even surprised anymore that a tree was talking to them. Mutant were capable of doing weird things, even after their death.
An apple fell, straight towards Jorge. Gemma jumped, and pushed him out of the way, both of them falling to the ground from the momentum.
"Al is dead!" Gemma yelled "And you are going to kill Peggy too if you don't stop this! She is scared, and sad, and your apples are going to kill her like everyone else!" It was a shot in the dark, but it was worth a shot .
"We are mutants too, Jonny!" sh continued, talking to the tree "We want to help you."

>>“I don’t like this. I can’t see him anywhere out there. Can you see an... Johnny? Johnny this is the NYPD,”
Gemma raised the shotgun and followed Jorge carefully; the boy did not seem to move, but one could not be too careful, especially if he was really commanding those apples. They were on his turf, in the middle of the orchard.
And Johnny was dead.
Gemma took a deep breath to calm herself down, and then let the gun down. She'd seen dead people before; but it did not make this any better. It was not digust, even though it was clear what killed him; it was sadness. He was young. And probably innocent. And had a mutation he could not control.
"That's not good." she said with a sigh, leaning down to check. He was really dead. "But if he's not doing it, then who?... Just me standying by him won't make a difference now..."

>>“Both. I found a mutant in Western Australia who could make long distance portals. We traded services, and I ended up here.”
"That's good to know about." Gemma nodded, and made a mental note to talk to Sam about it later. It was always good to know that mutants like that existed, and that there was a way to get to the US from Australia via portals. Information like that was gold.
>>“Yeah, okay. Sure. I can behave. Um...thanks. For everything. I realise I've been a bit of a dick this morning, but to be fair, put yourself in my position. And if it's any comfort to you both, I rarely drink like I did last night. You, ah, caught me in a bad moment.”
"Apology accepted" Gemma smirked "And if you are telling the truth, I see nothing wrong in letting you stay. We have had a few visitors who showed up under much worse circumstances..."
She did not mention the girl she hit with her car, or the young lady who invaded the mansion with an army of spiders. It was enough to say the Mansion has seen a lot of interesting people come and go...
>>“I've done most of my schooling, it's just the last couple of years that I didn't finish. So, ah, how much does it cost for rent in a place like this?”
>>"No rent Mat. It's free to live here."
"That is so." Gemma nodded, smiling at Andrew, then turned back to Mat "We will need to do the paperwork later, and find you a room. Andrew already has a roommate, I think." she added with a grin "Andrew, can you please give him the tour of the mansion? I have some things I need to take care of. I'll meet you in my office once you are finished with the tour."

>>“You alright?”
"Yes" she nodded; she was very far from all right, but she was not injured, and that was what he wanted to know. It was all he needed t know, for now. All the rest can come later. She smelled the air too; they were, hopefully, gettinc close to the source of the problem.
>>“Orchard”
"Let's go." Gemma nodded, letting him lead the way, falling behind a few steps to allow him to use his abilities.
She wondered what the kid was doing all the way out here. She could tell Peggy was not telling them everything - why would suddenly the boy decide to attack the house like that? Maybe he did not like being treated as different. Still, there needed to be a last straw. There was always a last straw.

>>“Run, Gemma! Now! Head for the barn!”
And she ran. She ran past Jorge, and ran past the apples that were still kind of confused by the water that was blocking their way. She could tell how her abilities would affect Jorge; but she had no time to think about it. And she ran.
Reaching the barn, she looked in, keeping the gun ready to fire at anything that would attack her. She could not see Johnny anywhere. Just how wide his range in anyway, she mused, rounding the barn and running on, following the path. The bay was controlling an army of mutant apples, and he was not even within sight.

>>“That's some power you've got there. I bet a fair few mutants are horrified by that ability.”
"You'd be surprised" she smirked at him "It has a few advantages."
It had a lot, if one was trying to keep a schoolful of mutants in check.
>>“Why, I'm an open book. Ask away. I stay wherever I happen to be when my feet quit. Squats, mostly. Abandoned apartments and stores and stuff. When the weather's better my options aren't as limited, but this snow...I've never had to deal with a winter like this before. Sometimes, if I have the money for it, I'll find a hotel room or backpackers to stay in, but not often.”
Gemma nodded. He did sound like he needed a place to stay. She was not entirely comfortable with the thought of having him live with the kids, but she could not turn him away either. That was not what Xavier's stood for. Everyone deserved a second chance. or a third one. Or, maybe, even a fourth...
>>“And yes. I do actually have a job. Self employed, but I make enough to keep myself going. Helping the economy and all that. As for identification and shi-- I mean stuff, well, if you need to see it you're gonna be outta luck. I, ah, entered the country by...alternative means.”
Gemma smirked. If they could deal with him, they could deal with the rest too.
"You mean, alternative as in not legal, or alternative as in mutation-realted?" she asked. It was an important question. She was still not entirely sure about his powers.
>>"You're welcome to stay here if you want. We won't force you to stay or go. Just a little bit of paperwork if you want to stay so we have a record of who's here and what power they've got."
Gemma nodded. Andrew was getting good at this.
"You are welcome to stay" she agreed "This is a school, and it has a set of rules that apply to everyone." she looked at him "But we don't usually turn people away. And, you don't have to go to classes either if you already have." she added with a smirk. That was also an important fact.
