The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

>>“Don’t worry, I had a couple of my precinct friends do a sweep. There are no mutated killer apples or large handed brutes within 20 miles of here. We’re safe.”
"All is well then" Gemma smiled, leaning against him as they walked. She felt safe. And the park was really nice this time of the evening. She had no idea where they were going, but she knew it was going to bre great. Jorge clearly had a talent for organizing dates, too bad he did so few of them lately. But then again, that was not entirely his fault.
And then, suddenly, there were light everywhere. Beautiful fairy tale lights.
"Oh my god" Gemma gasped in surprise and awe.
>>“This…is the next part of our date,”
"Wow..." she whispered, looking around. It really looked like something out of a fairy tale. Or some romance movie. "This... is beautiful."
Finally turning back to Jorge, she kissed him on the cheek. "Thank you. I mean it. This is perfect."

>>“You, my love. Are simply going to have to wait.”
Gemma chuckled. "I would have been surprised if you actually told me." she nodded with a smirk. Guys liked their surprises. She could tell Jorge was looking forward to being mysterious just a little bit longer. She did not blame him for it. Mysterious suited him just fine.
Central Park. Hmm.
>>“Hope you won’t mind a little stroll?”
"Not at all" she smiled, stepping out of the car "As long as you promise no mutants or monsters are going to jump out from behind a tree, I'm fine with walking."
With Central Park involved, one could never be sure. Especially at night. Then again, she was with Jorge. They could take on anything and everything.

>>“I whole heartedly agree. But trust me. Next time I’m definitely cooking for you.”
"I will take you up on that offer."
Never turn down a man who offers to cook. For one, if they do, they usually can, and that is always a plus; also, if you turn them down once, they might not offer again. Gemma was smart enough to know that much about men. And she liked Jorge's cooking. He really was good, even is he did not say it himself.
The dinner they just had was also good. And it was not the end of the date, apparently.
>>“Well, time for the next stage of my most brilliant plan. Shall we?”
"Yes" she smiled, taking his hand and walking with him. "Can I ask what the brilliant plan is, or I'll just have to see?"

>>“Oh, I’m fairly certain they are. But first, the night is young, we haven’t seen each other outside of work in awhile and I would like to take this opportunity to impress you with some sights of this most beauty city. After all I believe you deserve that much from this most insensitive officer.”
Gemma nodded, very seriously.
"I will take you up on that offer, officer. Gladly."
He was right, they needed to spend more time together. The teenages she once was, in the back of her mind, was demanding more attention and a whole different kind of activities, but at the same time, she enjoyed their night out. And it was time she'd had some decent food without cooking it herself.
Dinner was excellent, and it almost seemed to disappear by itself while they talked. One thing she really liked about Jorge was how much they could talk without ever stopping in awkward silence. Sure, they broke the rules of 'not talking about work' occasionally, but all in all, time just flew by whenever they were together.
Once dinner was over, and they'd even had desserts, Gemma sat back and smiled at him.
"Thank you. This was great... a meal that I do not have to cook is always greatly appreciated."

>>“Well, I’m sure we can figure something. So, Ms. Taylor. Do you happen to have plans for the rest of the evening?”
"Why, actually, I do." Gemma smiled at him. They have managed to get through the whole awkward topic without the evening being ruined. That proved how good this relationship was actually going. or they were just really grown up. Reasonable adults and all that. One does not react to Grannys the same way when she is a teenager and when she is a mother of two...
"I am hoping they are the same as yours." she added with a wink. Whatever he had planned for the evening, she would go along with it. Of course. But she also knew exactly how she wanted the evening to end, and it was kind of nice to know.
But as long as it did not involve villains, guns, or the hospital, she would gladly take whatever ideas he had for the rest of the date...

>>“Heh, you and me both. I mean about the ‘potential parent’ thing. And you’re right. You do have two beautiful children. Even if one tries to mentally destroy me.”
Gemma chuckled. "Believe me, if she really tried, you'd be gone already."
Valerie had that vibe about her. She really did. Maybe she was kind of an adapted. Cancelling out boyfriends. But she seemed to like Jorge. So far. There was a pause in the conversation, both parties trying to figure out what the other was thinking.
>>“God, I’m sorry. I feel like I should have sat on Granny Stephens comment a bit longer. I hope I didn’t, you know, turn the rest of our evening uncomfortable.”
"Nah, it's fine" Gemma smiled, shaking her head "It's just another comment. I've heard a lot worse, believe me."
Food arrived; it smelled really nice. Some of the awkwardness disappeared just because of that.
"So, now that we are past the question of having babies... damn. I am out of topics." she grinned at him.

>>“Sorry. I guess I should have kept my mouth shut, huh? It’s okay. I reacted the same way.”
"I can imagine." she chuckled "Wow, that lady really has a mouth on her. I don't think I've heard a comment like that since I moved away from my parent's house..."
And that. Was a long time ago. Her parents generally did not comment on who she was dating. Maybe they should have. maybe it would have saved her a divorse. Even though she would not have given up her children for anything in the world. But. A baby? Babies, plural? Seriously?...
Jorge was looking at her in a funny way. It was nice, but also kind of confused, if not really alarmed. Gemma arched an eyebrow. She felt sorry for a moment that she was not a psychic instead of an adapted.
>>“Are you okay? I mean, do I have to douse you with water or anything? I'm sorry. I really didn't mean for that to embarrass you so much."
"It's okay" she shook her head with a smile "It was just... unexpected, in many ways. I guess I'm surprised someone would see me... like a potential parent. I have always been thinking about that as something that has already happened to me."
Because it did. Two grown up children were threatening to visit just to prove it.

>>“I dunno. You can be just has threatening as something being tossed through the air by some old woman’s mind. You forget, I’ve seen you handle a gun.”
"Yeah, and I have seen you handle water" Gemma grinned back at her boyfriend. Both of them had their own strengths and abilites. Generally scaring people was one of them. They ordered dinner; Gemma sipped water. It was really a nice quiet evening. Granny or no Granny, the kids were safe (probably much safer now that they had someone at the Mansion who would toss cars at the bad guys... or any guys, really, if they tried to sneak in). And then Jorge spoke again.
>>“You know, that old bird really is full of surprises. She pretty much just says what’s on her mind. She said that you and I would make beautiful children.”
Gemma choked on the water. Long seconds of gasping and coughing later she regained some of her composure, and stared at Jorge in disbeliev, a dark blush evident even against her dark skin.
"That... was unexpected" she admitted, still not sure how to react "I mean, I have... umm."
That. Was not how a proper lady behaves. The blush persisted.

>>“Yeah, better to just accept it, than think about it. It’ll only make your head hurt.”
"I'll take that advice" she agreed. It really made her head hurt. It was just so grandmother-y on so many levels. She had never really been close to her grandparents, so it was kind of a new experience which makde it all the more weird, since she was past forty...
>>“We didn’t get that far in conversation. And I’m pretty sure, compared to her, the majority of us would be considered ‘teenagers’. At least she’s on our side. Though I’m sure you’re going to get a flood of students wandering into your office to complain about her cruelty.”
"I know, right?" she grinned "I would have to be on her bad side. She seems like a dangerous woman. And yeah, the kids will be terrified. But that's not necessarily a bad thing." she chuckled "Just kidding. No, not really. I mean, being an adapted makes it a lot easier to deal with them, but it is nowhere near as threatening as tossing stuff into the air..."

>>“Aside from some wounded pride, I think I’ll live. By the way, she comment that you have magnificent hips and inquired as to whether or not I saw them. I told her I was inclined to agree.”
Gemma chuckled at his comment about the wounded pride; she could imagine he would have that. A fragile old lady hitting the big bad... well, big good, but still big... cop over the head, that was just too much fun not to laugh. The next comment, however...
Gemma arched an eyebrow.
"My hips?..." she blinked "When did she... nevermind."
It was equally funny. Had he seen them? You bet, Granny. You bet. But still, why on earth would she want to comment about her hips?...
"Did you tell her I have kids?..." she grinned, sipping water from her glass "Hips indeed. Sounds like something a grandma would say about a teenage girl..."

>>“I agree. I will make sure to schedule in kidnapping you on a regular basis. Besides, you’re right. Life doesn’t have a tendency of simply laying down and working around people’s lives. We can make it work for us.”
"Amen" Gemma smiled. Jorge was getting philosophical, but it suited him, with all the gruff cop image he already had. Regular dates meant more time to spend together.
>>“Uh…yeah…I believe I ‘met’ her. She…nearly gave me a concussion with her cane.”
Gemma bit back a surprised laugh.
"Nooo she didn't!" she stared at Jorge in amused disbelief "... she did, didn't she." she sighed and chuckled "I had that feeling that I was just bringing in one more kid instead of another teacher... one can never know with that lady. I mean, have you seen the powers she has? She could be one of the strongest mutants I've ever met. Certainly one of the most trouble..."

>>“Woooow. Well, don’t worry. If I see that the two of you are hitting it off, I’ll make sure to back off.”
Gemma laughed. It was good to laugh again. She was really being wicked with all the jokes and the banter, but she knew Jorge well enough to know he could take it, and return the favor.
>>“I know we’ve both been extremely busy lately... But I hope tonight will make up for some of that.”
She kissed him on the cheek as she walked past him through the door.
"It aready has."
The restaurant was just as nice on the inside as it had been from the outside; Gemma smiled at the lights and the soft music as they were escorted to their table.
"We should make a habit of this" she noted as they sat down "Or at least, we should make a habit of something. If we keep waiting for a moment of peace every time we meet... well. Mutant teenagers are not getting any easier to handle. Even though... have I told you we have an old lady at the Mansion, helping out?"

>>“Hah, touche. Well I’m sure that we can put our heads together and take some time off. I can show you around where I grew up. Miami can be a beautiful city in its own right.”
Gemma smiled. She had never been to Miami, but it sounded like a nice place. Especially because Jorge grew up there. One could learn a lot about a person by visiting their place of origin. In her experience, even the person itself tended to change, to behave differently (and usually more relaxed) in their real home.
>>“Here we are,”
The restaurant looked nice and cozy, and not crowded at all. Gemma wondered how he found these places. It was perfect for them; not crazy expensive or fancy, and less likely to be the focus of a mutant attack. She smiled as he helped her out of the car.
>>“Young Miss. Care to join a handsome stranger for some exquisite dining?”
"With pleasure" she nodded, smirking at his politeness "Although it might get awkward, if you decide to join us as well..."

"Well, I liked your sister" Gemma noted with a smirk "So no problem there."
That the others were different that did not mean they were necessarily bad. Not at all. Just from her own family, and the people she shared the mansion with, she knew that most people had something about them that one could like, and the opposite was also true.
"I'm completely fine with being alone with you" she smiled at Jorge, arching an eyebrow that might have been a suggestion "And I am surprisingly good with parents. School counselor, remember?" she chuckled. Of course it was not the same thing. She was just trying to get Jorge worry less.

>>“Not taking any chances tonight,”
"A very wise decision" she agreed, turning her own cellhpone off. No one would find them tonight. If the sky fell on the mansion, Sam could deal with it for once.
>>“Aw that’ll be good. Seems like it’s been awhile since you’ve seen them. I hope that they are all well. Maybe if they come this time Valerie won’t try so hard to destroy my psyche.”
"She likes you" Gemma smirked "Otherwise your psyche would already be destroyed."
Valerie had her ways.

"I am flattered" she chuckled "And Florida sounds good. I have not been away from the Mansion since I arrived..." Apart from the unmentioned apple incident.
"... if you want to take me, that is" she added with a small smile "These family things are always tricky, so I'll trust your decision on that."
