Once he gets on a scent, he doesn't let go, no matter where it leads. He's single-minded, focused like a laser beam. Woe is to those that get in the way.
He likes to crack jokes and movie references. When he says something he thinks is funny, he smiles at himself, like he's done something right.
Sometimes, he says too much.
He has a bad habit of checking himself out.
While at times, he can be a goofball, when it comes to his job, he's as serious as it gets.
He's been transferred several times in his law enforcement career. It takes a bit of time for Ashton to open up to people in his precinct. He doesn't connect with cop buddies easily. Defense mechanism, he'd lie. It's hard connecting with people because he's still not 100% over Eve. It's even harder with women. He can date. He can have one-night stands. Actual relationships, he still isn't ready for.Hobbies/ Interests: People-watching. People are fascinating. The choices they make, the ways they act... sometimes, sitting around in a subway station is as entertaining as any old drama show.
Ashton enjoys watching the occasional football or baseball game. He's also a hockey fan. He played a bit of baseball as a kid, and developed a good throwing arm with coaching from his dad.
Ashton is a lover of drama, be it in cheesy B-movies, classic films, action movies, or on the stage. He's always quoting some movie or play, and comparing it to the situation at hand.
Ashton's an avid reader.
He loves music. He learned to play piano when he was 5, picked up the guitar in high school, and did some drumming throughout college. For a while, he joked around with a 'wannabe band' of ex-marching band members and social outcasts. He was their guitarist. He maintains he never had rock star ambitions, though this might just be covering up for the fact the band wasn't any good. He still has his drum set, and every now and then, he practices. Take that as you may. Ashton can still wail a nice riff on his guitar.
Ashton collects LPs of his favorite bands. His music tastes range from hard rock to ska, with a bit of classical and Indie thrown in for good measure. He likes whatever. He has a nice record collection.
Rolling Stones. Styx.Job or part time job and description: Ashton was a detective on the NYPD force, Mutant Related Crimes Division. Now.... it's uncertain what he's doing.
Fears/ phobias/ concerns: Clowns bother him. It isn't just the traditional crying clowns, either. Harlequin clowns are freaky, too. It isn't the sort of phobia that'd make him run crying from a room, but god... put something over that.
It's disturbing...Special talents: (not related to mutation)
Ashton has a knack for dreadful singing and he's a terrible dancer. He's okay with a guitar, though. He can play the drums, and he knows how to tickle the ivories.
He can handle a gun, thanks to his dad. They used to go on the shooting range. He isn't a world class marksman. just familiar with usage and safety.
Through his police training, Ashton has gained knowledge of basic Unarmed Defensive Tactics (UDT). UDT focuses on simple defensive maneuvers, aimed to distract attackers, or get them off-balance, in order to help the victim escape.
He's knowledgeable in crime scene investigation methods. He understands how to check for evidence, using many of the modern-day toys forensic investigators use (such as luminol spray and fingerprint dusting powder).Ashton has a knack for failing horribly when it comes to computers. While he can handle all the new gadgets and gizmos like satellite phones and GPS, he's rubbish when it comes to fixing them, or doing complex computer research. He leaves the tough stuff to the tech guys.
Ashton took a few years of Spanish in college and high school, and can converse fairly well in it. He can habla español.
He's also pretty good at pitching baseballs, thanks to little league baseball and t-ball. He's gone sailing enough to understand the basics. Same with fishing. Good ol dad, again.
MoralityGood/ bad/ neutral/ other: Ashton's a cop. Come on. He has to be a good guy. While he might not agree with certain laws, he'd be damned if he didn't serve and protect. People don't just come back to life, and if you do the crime, you do the time. The law's the law. That's pretty much all there is to say on the matter. Sometimes, he bends the law to work for him. In cases where lives are on the line, who wouldn't? Ashton is not sure about where he stands, on the good and evil scale. He isn't bad. Let's get that straight, first off. But he doesn't know if he wants to be some Lightbringer Law-Abider again. He got screwed over by cops. Does he want to do that again?
What he does know is that he's willing to bend some laws. He won't go around doing things that'll hurt people. But breaking and entering to find information? Sure.
Mutation description: Placeholder Teleportation - The ability to exchange his position with anything or anyone he wants.
Strengths: - Ashton can exchange his position with any object he sees, within his own strength levels of teleportation.
- Ashton can take objects weighing up to 100 lbs with him when he teleports.
- Ashton is strong enough to trade places with objects weighing up to 100 lbs. That's his current average. If he trades places with an object weighing beyond that weight, it leads to side effects ranging from headaches, nosebleeds, and migraines, all the way up to unconsciousness. 250 lbs is the black-out point. Anything weighing that, or beyond that, conks Ashton out. The same goes for objects Ashton is carrying when he trades places. 100 is his current max. Anything beyond that brings with it negative side effects.
- Living things require more concentration to trade places, or teleport, with. The range in which Ashton can trade places with living things is within hearing distance. With non-living objects, Ashton’s range is about the length of a city block, restricted to locations within his own levels of sight.
- Some people teleport in a puff of smoke, some a burst of light. Ashton is here one moment, gone the next, with the only noteworthy special effects being what he leaves in his place.
- Ashton has slight control over the location he teleports to. When he teleports, he trades places with an object, and appears within 6 inches of that object’s prior location. His power does this to compensate for situations when an object he trades places with might be pressed up against a wall, or in a location he might not fit in. It’s a minor compensation to help him avoid object fusion.
- When Ashton trades places with an object, he also has control over the pose he appears in upon arrival. He cannot come into play performing an action, but upon arrival, can initiate an attack, and gains the speed of the object he traded places with.
- When Ashton trades places with an object, he also trades his speed with its.
- He can channel that speed in whatever direction he wants, if he decides on that direction prior to initiation of teleportation. More often then not, he uses it to power punches.
- Teleported objects smell slightly of cinnamon.
Weaknesses: - Ashton must see the object he is to trade places with, in order to trade places with it.
- Because Ashton’s teleportation is sight-based, it works only as fast as his mind and eyes can work. It doesn’t work when he can’t see. What you can’t see can hurt you.
- Teleportation has a 2 second cool-down period between uses. During this time, he can't teleport.
- Teleporting can be tiring. After about 20 teleports in an hour, the original cool-down period doubles. After 40, it triples.
- If Ashton tries to trade places with an object with a weight larger than his current weight limit, it can lead to migraines, nosebleeds, and periods of unconsciousness. Bigger objects have more severe drawbacks.
- Ashton needs an object to trade places with when he teleports. He cannot teleport without trading places with an object.
- Ashton can only trade places with one object at a time. If a targeted object is directly touching another object, but not part of that object's structure as a whole, such as in the cases of a door connected to a wall via hinges, or a man sitting on a bench, Ashton trades places only with the singular object he envisions, and not both. That means, in the case of the man sitting on the bench, Ashton could trade places with the man or the bench, but not both. Thanks to the six inch wiggle room, if he traded places with the bench, he would not have to appear directly beneath that man. He could appear by where the bench was, 6 inches in any direction. When that bench vanished, the man would either fall on his backside, or land on Ashton as Ashton appeared beneath him... In the case of the door, he trades places with the entire door, but not the hinges or part of the wall. Trading places with a singular object, and not all objects directly touching it, is called Mental Shearing. He focuses on one object to trade places with, and mentally shears away the rest of the whole.
- When trading places with player characters, player character property, or objects directly touching player characters, Ashton will need out-of-character permission.
- Ashton trades speeds when he trades locations. It's pretty wild, trading his speed with a super ball to bounce at someone. It adds extra oomph to his punches, but carries with it obvious bodily risks.
- While Ashton can come into play in a new pose, it doesn’t always work. If he’s distracted by the urgency of a situation, or cannot think fast enough, he might not have the time or concentration needed to picture a pose.
- Ashton has no control over the pose or location of what appears in his place upon teleportation, aside from his placement prior to teleportation. They appear in the direction they were facing upon teleportation, at chest level where he was.
- If he trades places with something in an awkward position, fusion can occur. If he's lying under someone, and trades places with the door... the door might fuse with the floor at chest-level in his last location. If he trades places with a window glass pane, but not the window’s bars... it could be bad.
- Ashton’s power requires a high degree of awareness of his surroundings, because if he teleports in stupid ways, stupid consequences can occur.
- Because of things like mental shearing, object fusion, trading of speed, prepared poses, weight limits, and his 6 inches of wiggle room, Ashton's power requires a bit of planning, in addition to that awareness requirement.
Secondary Mutation: Object teleportation
Ashton can make one object trade places with another.
In order to make an object trade places, the two objects must be within his sight, or else the primary object must be within an inch of his skin. Like if he were holding an object, or pressed up against it.
Objects trade speeds when they trade places. Objects obey all basic rules of the primary mutation.
The maximum weight of objects that trade places is 100 lbs, total. That’s the combined weight of the objects. Anything more can cause nosebleeds and headaches, or simply fail. The closer it is to the weight limit, the more likely such a stretch might succeed and incur the penalties. If it’s a huge difference, it won’t ever work.
He can only make an object trade places with another about every 10 seconds. That’s less often than he can teleport with his primary mutation.

Physical AbilitiesGeneral Physical Capabilities: Ashton trains in law enforcement, and part of that involves unarmed defensive tactics. He's of fairly average strength for law enforcement, but a hair above your average guy off the street. He also lifts at the gym. He runs to keep in shape. He's got pretty decent speed and stamina, for a middle-aged man. His reflexes are trained, due to his line of work. They're better than average. He isn't very flexible, though. He doesn't do any yoga. Ashton has average physical strength. He runs and works out.
Fighting Style
Explanation: Unarmed Defensive Tactics Nothing.
Pros for fighting style: Unarmed Defensive Tactics, as employed by various Police Forces as part of their training.
UDT focuses on simple gross motor skills that will allow the user to escape an attacker, either by getting them off-balance, or through distraction. UDT utilizes simple high-impact techniques. Ashton can use these techniques to defend himself against armed attackers and get away. He also knows how to bring an attacker to the ground for cuffing. He's just your average guy. Maybe he'll use his mutation to give him an advantage, but he has no special fighting training.
Cons for fighting style: This is not an intensive martial art, and doesn't focus on flashy moves. He's no karate master. He's just a guy who knows how to handle himself in a fight, and get out of trouble. He isn't aiming to beat an attacker. UDT's more about gaining confidence and awareness. He's not trained in any fighting styles.

History Of Your CharacterPlease write the history of your character and explain when they discovered (if applicable) their power(s).
Ashton was born and raised in Newport, Rhode Island, second child of naval officer Elias Drake and his Oncologist wife, Teagan.
His father, Elias, was off most of the time due to work, making it up whenever he could. T-ball, fishing, boating, sports games. One could never say the old man didn't try. He taught Ashton important morals, and though he was gruff and distant at times, he was a good role model. Ashton learned to tie knots. He learned to respect his elders.
His mother, Teagan, backed up Elias's lessons, teaching him with softer lessons. She kept him on the straight path when it came to his schooling. She taught him to do his laundry, take care of the dishes, clean up after himself, and cook.
He learned not to pick on his all-knowing older sister, Alice. His sister taught him to keep his mouth zipped, a skill he never fully developed.
Vying for his father's respect, Ashton went to Rhode Island Military Academy upon graduation from high school. He acted like he was going to follow in his father's footsteps. He dotted his 'i's and crossed his 't's, hoping the old man would notice, and give him a pat on the back, but it never came. He changed his mind. He decided to become a cop. Take that, dad.
After the one year of prep school, Ashton enrolled at Berkeley College in New York. Ashton graduated from Berkeley at the age of 23, with degrees in criminology and sociology. He went through police academy training with the NYPD the following year. After two years on the NYPD force, he was transferred to another department, in Philadelphia, PA to work a case. A year and a half later, he was transferred to New England, Massachusetts. He was 27.
In New England, Ashton found something he'd never found before. He found a girl he actually loved. Sure, he'd 'loved' women before, but never emotionally. They were just skirts, girls he chased, and girls he won. Eve was different. Eve was special. She was another cop. She got him. They really connected. She accepted who he was. With her long brown hair, deep green eyes, and her smile with dimples, he just couldn't get enough of her. Two years, he spent in New England with her. A year and a half, they had dated. She really could have been The One. Then, It happened. Things were never the same.
They were on-duty, tracking a prison escapee. He was a real bad egg. A mutant with a sonic scream named Eddie. They'd been careful. They should have been able to handle it. When they finally confronted him, guns drawn, they had him outnumbered. Everything should have gone their way. Then, his mutation went and activated... it screwed everything up. Call it fight or flight, call it a massive wrench. Their well-oiled operation ground to a halt when Eddie turned his way, and shot a sonic blast. He didn't even consciously control It. His eyes focused on a traffic cone nearby. The image hovered in his mind, and then, poof, he wasn't where he'd been standing. Unfortunately for his partner, the shock of the mutation's activation had knocked him out. He wasn't in the fight anymore. She was all alone. In the resulting confusion, Eddie killed her. When Ashton finally came to, Eddie was gone. His partner was, too.
It took a long time for him to get over it. It took even longer for him to understand what had happened. He transferred to the Baltimore, MD police department for a while, almost in a daze. He went through the motions of his job, doing his best, but he just couldn't place what had happened.
One day, he saw a pro-mutant demonstration. Police responded as the demonstration went violent. Ashton watched in horror as several mutants began using their powers on the responding officers. That's when he knew... he was
like them. He was a mutant. It was a Eureka moment, but it wasn't followed with a positive exclamation point. It was a hollow realization. The realization shifted instantly, from a listless feeling of stunned disbelief and uncertainty to focus. So, he was a mutant? So what? The other police were in trouble. He couldn't stand idly by and let them get murdered. He could do something. He had the ability to make a difference.
There were only three violent mutants on the scene. The rest had fled once things had turned violent. If he could use his power...
But how could he? He still didn't know what in the world he could do!
'Ah well, what the hell?' He'd decided. He would figure it out on the go. Ashton stepped forward to confront the trio that day, without a strategy in his entire being.
Somehow, he overpowered them. Quick thinking and testing on the fly served him well. He cuffed the three of them. They went to jail.
After the event, Ashton was revived. He had a bit of hope left. He arranged to have himself transferred from Baltimore, back to New York, where his police journey had begun. It was time to get back to the basics and find himself. Ashton returned to New York at the age of 30.
Over the next three years, he worked on controlling his power. In 2008, he made Detective. Ashton is currently a detective for the New York City Police Department. He was transferred by request to the MRC division.
After he returned, he helped coordinate a raid on a kidnapping operation, which resulted in someone targeting him with a chemical that reverts someone to a previous state of age and mental state. Ashton is now 20.
Ashton's family consists of his mother (Teagan Drake), his father (Elias Drake), whom he's distant with, and his all-knowing older sister (Alice, a therapist).

Sample RP:"They lay scattered across the pavement like crayons..." A grave voice trailed, hint of an Irish accent on his tongue.
"Crayons?" One of the three off-duty police men asked skeptically, arching a thick black eyebrow. The brown-haired cop on his left glanced over his shoulder at the barkeep, and waved a waitress over to refill the table's beer pitcher.
"Crayons," The voice replied seriously.
"This one was red, that one, flame-orange, and that one, black and blue. The handiwork of mutants," the voice's owner shook his brown-haired head. Hazel eyes locked on the audience.
"My brethren? My peers? I didn't know. At that moment, I didn't know a lot of things. Who I was, what I could do... all I knew was that I wasn't human, and these guys? Yeah. The way they went to flingin' my fellow officers around, they weren't human either. They were on my 'bad list'. They'd made something click in my head, showed me what I was, and... they were going down." He tilted his thumb to point at tabletop, and shook his head.
Ice clinked against the side of the pitcher as the waitress refilled the pitcher. The speaker's eyes shifted her way, and he smiled a quiet
"Thank ya, sugar." One of the men at the table shook his head as the waitresses shuffled away. "Lost your train of thought, Ashton?"
"Oh, I've got it. So, as I was saying." Ashton took a sip of beer. Mmm, that foam was great.
"Three mutants. Officers injured everywhere. Protest gone sour. Emotional conflict amidst startling clarity. What came next?"Blond cop turned his shot glass in his hand casually. "You tell us."
