The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

He put on a stricken look.
"Moi? A trouble magnet? Never." Drew broke up laughing and fixed Lydia with a sheepish smile, "I swear I don't go looking for it. It just keeps following me like an ill mannered puppy with bladder control problems."
Her following comment made him smile.
"I'd like that."
Drew liked any opportunity he got to make a new friend so the chance to actually make friends with Lydia was something he wouldn't pass up. She was fine apparently, just bruised. That was good. He would have hated to hear that she got hurt.
"I'm fine. Just a few bruises for me too." he laughed at her comment, "Yeah well when you run into trouble as much as I do you learn or you get badly hurt. Besides, no need to feel sorry for guys like them. They needed to learn a lesson and we were the ones to teach them. Simple as that. They'd just better be glad they didn't pick on someone with a more dangerous mutation."
No he didn't feel a lick of sympathy for the beating those guys had received tonight. They had deserved it and he had warned them. His conscience was clear.

A gender shifter? That sounded awkward. It also brought ideas to mind that Drew did his best to drown in another swallow of beer. Maya wasn't interested in guys and he was in a complicated spot anyway. Still, he couldn't help commenting so he grinned after he set down his beer.
"Man, it is really a shame you don't do guys."
Drew cracked his neck and stared into his beer for a moment.
"Gender shifting as a trade off for walking through mirrors and what not. Not a bad trade off in my book."
Better than being stuck keeping your promises on literal pain of death. That however was changing, or so he thought, so he couldn't be too bummed about it.

Her reaction was about as close as you could get to mood whiplash without needing a neck brace. First she nearly hit him. Then when she realized that he'd gotten her necklace back he was treated to a slightly soggy hug. Then it was an embarrassed agreement with getting out of there. Drew just smiled at her and headed in the direction of his car.
"Why is it that we can never meet without something happening? Seriously, I'm beginning to think there's a conspiracy out there trying to keep us from being friends or something."
Drew chuckled a little and lead Lydia to the path that would eventually take them to the exit he'd parked near.
"So are you alright? I didn't expect you to join the fight too."
He really hadn't expected it at all. Last time he'd seen her she'd mostly stayed out of it and had done her level best to convince him he was useless for the task at hand. Drew preferred to forget that part. Mostly because he felt that way half the time anyway.

Of course she wasn't where he'd left her. Why should she be? It was a fight. If you didn't move you got your butt handed to you. So where was Lydia? He looked around but it was hard to tell with people running every which way.
"Lydia?" he called out.
Hrmm...Aha! There she was! Over by the bassist searching for her necklace he'd wager. Drew wandered over and dug the necklace he'd rescued out of his pocket. He could surprise her with it. But first he'd talk to the bassist. Drew walked over to the relieved and slightly confused looking bassist. He was staring at Lydia from time to time. Drew pulled him off to the side while Lydia rummaged.
"I think it'd be best if you got out of here. Unless you want to face the cops that is. Lord knows how many folks in that crowd are going to press theft charges whether you meant to do it or not."
That said, Drew left the man to his decision and walked up behind Lydia. He tossed the necklace over her head and fastened it while she was still searching.
"I think you were looking for this. I saw it fall earlier in the fight and grabbed it."
Drew glanced up at the swiftly approaching authority figures.
"Now unless you wanna be here all night talking to cops and medics and what not I think we'd better get out of here. My car's on the other side of the park. We can use that. It'll be a bit of a walk though."

Maya's admonition not to let go of her hand was one that wasn't easily forgotten. He could only imagine be stuck in some guy's bathroom mirror. He passed the thoughts over as quickly as he could. Instead he paid attention to the mirrors and reflective surfaces they hopped through until they arrived at the pub. It really was a good thing there wasn't anyone much there or they'd get ideas about Maya, coming out of the men's room with him like that. Maya got into fights at bars pretty regularly it seemed by her comment. Drew just raised an eyebrow and smirked.
"So am I gonna have to be on the look out for someone you thrashed in another bar?"
Drew settled onto a stool beside her. He chuckled when she mentioned that he was buying. Like she needed to remind him or something.
"Yes I'm buying. Think of it as a gift from the new guy."
The barkeep emerged from the back room behind the bar with a case of liquor in his arms. Apparently he'd decided to restock the bar on shift because it was slow. The man set the case down behind the bar and made his way over to them. Drew asked for whatever was on tap, no point in being picky when this would only be the second time he'd been out for a drink.

It was hard to keep track of Lydia among the mob. He kept his eyes on her when he could spare them. Therefore he cheered when she got her hit in and when she was kicked he wanted to go over and tear out the trachea of the person responsible. Unfortunately he had his own fights to manage and couldn't do so. So he settled for watching and grinning when she popped one of them in the nose. He didn't know what she'd been doing since they'd last met but she'd obviously gotten some help with fighting. Drew decided that he could afford to let her manage her own fights for now. Oh he'd still check on her regularly but he wasn't quite as worried for the girl that had followed him into the fray.
Why had she followed him? A question for later.
He drove an elbow into a man's throat and then spun and delivered a knee to the stomach of his friend. Drew spared a glance for the bassist. His little metal staff was doing the trick to keep the guy safe. He didn't seem any less panicked but something must have helped to calm him a little because pieces of metal, the things that had been taken by his out of control mutation, began to seep out of his skin. A screw or nut would drop here and there. Nothing large. Drew had heard, and his hair had experienced, Lydia's panic over the loss of her necklace with the yellow gemstone in it. So when his eyes caught something yellow glinting on the ground at the bassist's feet he made his way over and scooped it up.
The furor of the mob was dying now. The mutant was proving too hard to hurt and the cops and emergency crews could be heard approaching. That helped to scatter many but the most determined. The cops all over the city were gonna know him by name at this rate. Drew stuffed the necklace in his pocket, unsure whether it was the correct one. He'd ask Lydia later. Drew punched another guy in the side of the head and headed over to where he'd last seen her.

He was greeted by orders from the darkness. It seemed appropriate that they come from there. Drew was to train as hard as he could to develop his muscles. This in and of itself was no distasteful thing. He was already working hard to improve himself. Applying a little extra effort to building his muscles was nothing abhorrent. Once the orders were given he was told to enter the building and then was left alone again in the darkness of the streets. Try as he might to be unsettled by this all he could feel was a vague excitement at getting to see Martin again. At getting a chance to make up for his idiocy this morning.
Drew stepped carefully into the shadows. Martin could be anywhere within them. His arms were laden with the items he'd been told to purchase. After taking several steps into the dark abandoned building he set the items down and withdrew the credit card from his pocket. This he set on top of them as though he were leaving an offering for some pagan god.
"I got everything you asked for. Rope, at least five meters, hemp. A blow torch. And three different sets of pliers." Drew then paused, "I wasn't quite sure what to do about the something nice for myself though."
This final admission was made in a tone that was apologetic. He sounded like he thought he'd failed Martin because of that. Within his mind he was shouting at himself for such behavior. Drew was screaming within the confines of his head that Martin didn't deserve such obsequious loyalty. An equally loud voice was contradicting it though and this made it much easier to simply follow orders in the interest of attempting to avoid more pain. The mere thought brought an image of a pair of hands to his mind's eye that ceased the struggles in favor of a flinch.

It took him a minute to fight to the center where the bassist stood. When he did the man flailed and took a swing at him. Drew dodged it.
"Relax man! I'm here to help you not them!"
He turned to the crowd.
"I'm giving y'all one chance to get goin'!"
Laughter rippled through the group of angry humans.
"Suit yourselves then."
With the warning out of the way, after all he was supposed to training to be an X-Man and Sam did say they were supposed to talk first, Drew tore into the crowd. The bassist seemed to accept his help as he smashed his bass over someone's head and dropped it. He held his hands in front of him and the metal that he'd absorbed began to materialize and form into a staff. Drew cast an eye at him to see that he was doing pretty good with his metal stick when he heard Lydia's voice demand they leave the bassist alone. Drew's eyes went wide at that. He really hoped she knew what she was doing because there was no way he'd be able to easily get to her and he wouldn't put it past this crowd to try something on a pretty young girl.

In retrospect Drew should have known better than to think that he and Lydia could meet without trouble. He hadn't even been there for two full songs yet when things started to go wrong. He was just having a good time with a friend. Why did that have to automatically mean chaos? Oh well. No point crying over spilled milk. Or in this case a ruined concert. The bassist suddenly began absorbing any and all metal near him. The stage was collapsing, his band mates and most of the crowd were fleeing, and those that weren't running away from him were running toward him to 'get the mutie'. Drew grumbled as he tried to stay steady with Lydia on his shoulders amongst the panicking crowd.
"Ride ends here m'lady!" he shouted up at Lydia though this time because of the screams of fear and hatred rather than the sound of the band.
Drew let Lydia down just in time too. He was bowled over by the guy that had elbowed Lydia earlier as he raced toward the newly revealed mutant.
"It just figures that jerk would be a hater." he muttered and turned to Lydia as he got up, "Well, I'm gonna go help the bassist out. It was great seeing you Lydia!"
With that Drew ran over to the fast forming crowd and began throwing people aside to get through to where the bassist was panicking and wielding his bass at the small mob. He looked scared out of his wits so he probably wouldn't be getting over this any time soon. If they could just get rid of these idiots though he'd have time to calm down and take back control.

He laughed at her teasing.
"Hey now, you're looking at the guy that pinned a fierce and dangerous mutant the other day! Probably saved him and a load of other people's lives."
Drew preened as though he were royalty for a second before settling down as Lydia climbed up and he grabbed her legs and straightened up. At her question Drew just laughed.
"Quite fine."
Then he waded into the crowd. They were packed fairly tight but it didn't matter to Drew. He slipped through politely where he could but other times he shoved. He also made sure to give the guy that had elbowed Lydia earlier a good hard elbow in the ribs as payback. Muay Thai lessons from Rhy were handy for something. He got a glare from the guy in question but an answering glare shut him up and Drew moved on. Soon enough they were close enough to the stage that had this been a paying concert they would have been paying top dollar. He tipped his head back just a little bit and shouted up to Lydia.
"How's this m'lady?"
He could hear the band much better up here. Even Drew had to admit they had talent, even if he could care less about the music they were playing.

Drew nodded to Lydia.
"Yeah better late than never."
Lydia seemed to like the idea of getting closer to the stage if it weren't for the fact that the crowd was close and rude. That and her height seemed to be a problem. The next song started and Lydia put a hand on his arm as she bounced to try and get a better view. Drew coughed and pointedly looked away for a minute.
"Well you could sit on my shoulders or something. I'm tall enough for the both of us."
Drew grinned lopsidedly at Lydia.
"Besides, I can move this crowd."
He made a show of flexing one arm and then laughed. It felt good to be this carefree. If only it could happen more often. Drew would savor this for now. Until his new ability started working right he had all the time in the world to anticipate it and enjoy things for a change.

Jorge seemed as stumped as Drew was. His huh said that clearly enough. Drew watched the last of the tattoo disappear before looking back to Jorge as the older man clapped him on the shoulder and told him to go see DocProf. As if that would happen. Talking to DocProf would just lead to lectures and arguments. As if he wanted to explain to the man again that he didn't need to tell anyone about it and that it was handled. Drew just nodded.
"This is the first time it's done precisely that but it's been weird all week."
Drew thought back to each instance of the feeling. He couldn't say about the ones that happened in large crowds but he was pretty sure he'd heard the words I promise each time it happened.
"I think it might be changing. Maybe to take promises from other people."
The place around them was a mess and the rest of the boys in blue were finally arriving. Drew didn't see any more need to stay.
"I should get out of your way so you can do your thing. You know where to find me if you need my statement Jorge."
Drew gave a wave to the barista and to Jorge and shot a glare at the girl that had started all of this mess before heading out the front with much more bounce in his step than when he'd first come in.

His smiled turned self conscious when she said he looked good.
"You too Lydia. Uh, I mean you look good."
She hadn't been up to much it seemed so she asked him what he was up to. He grinned widely at her.
"Oh a little of this and that. Nothing fit to talk about in a screaming crowd at a concert."
He sure wasn't going to shout about how he thought he was gaining the ability to control people in a crowd full of humans. That would be just stupid. Instead Drew just grinned like the cat that not only got the canary but all of the canary's friends, that pesky worm, and a fancy french meal too.
"Just been busy is all. Working a second job for a very strict taskmaster with odd hours. Between that and I just haven't been hanging around the mansion much lately, well it's no surprise you haven't seen me if you were there."
It was an elegant way of explaining the relationship between himself and Martin that took up some of his time. Drew decided not to think about that at the moment. He could ill afford to get lost in thought at the moment. Instead he looked over at Lydia just in time to notice a guy elbow her. Well that was just rude. He shook his head in response to her question.
"I didn't even know this was happening. I just heard the music while I was on my walk and came to investigate. Glad you like it though. We could get closer to the stage if you want."
