The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

He quaffed some more of his beer while Maya talked about not really regarding humans as 'them' and about how everyone important in her life was a mutant. Drew snorted
"First mutant in my family. Haven't talked to my parents since I left two..or is it three...years ago. They don't even know."
More beer.
"I guess I started thinking of humans as them when I figured out what my mutation did. Or was it when a bunch of them decided to attack Tasean just because he was a mutant in their office building?"
Here he shrugged and stared at his nearly empty glass.
"I dunno when it happened I guess. It's just easier to think of them that way."

Maya's sheer shock at the fact that he'd gone camping with Aura made Drew laugh. Long and loud. He just grinned at her once he finally got control of himself.
"Yeah, she wasn't that bad actually. Brought a pet skunk with her though."
He sat there and listened to Maya describe what she knew of Aura to him. It wasn't all that surprising now that he thought of it. Sure he was ok with most of what she'd said now but back then it had seemed pretty harsh and kinda crazy. To learn that she was a cold blooded murderer wasn't so shocking when he took another look at it.
"Yeah, I get ya. Sure they may not treat us too great but killing them just lands the lot of us in worse trouble than before."
That was Drew's take on it. At least, with the part about humans being morons incapable of accepting change taken out. Somehow he didn't think that would go over too well with Maya.

That hadn't been what he'd wanted to hear. Drew had hoped that maybe the human had already killed someone or something but no. He may not like humans much these days but he certainly didn't think killing them was the answer. They tended to get real fussy when people killed them. Fussy humans tended to mean bad things for mutants. All you had to do was look at all that stupid legislation they'd fooled with a while back to know that.
"Ah man, I'm sorry." he took another drink, "I sorta met her recently. Twice actually. She sorta helped me out when I was in a bind. We faced down a mob of angry humans for...uh...well Tasean. She didn't kill anyone though."
He stopped mid narrative just to think about that time. Drew couldn't say that if he'd had a weapon capable of killing those fools he would have been able to hold back. He counted himself lucky that he'd been fighting sans one as usual.
"Second time was camping actually. Out in the middle of nowhere with her and a couple of other girls. She didn't kill anyone then either."

His face drained visibly of some of it's color as Maya confirmed that she was in fact talking about Aura. Damn.
"Creepiest woman I've ever met. Barely got out alive..."
Double damn. Drew took a long drink of his third beer and was definitely starting to feel it by now but that wasn't important.
"If ya don't mind talkin' about it, mind tellin' me what she did?"
Oops, there went the drawl. Oh well, Maya probably wouldn't care and if she did it would only be enough to laugh. Again, that wasn't the issue at hand! The issue was if the person he'd come to respect was as horrible as Maya made her sound. Aura didn't seem like the type to go after mutants but apparently Maya had squared off against her. Had there been extenuating circumstances or was the woman he'd fought with to protect Tasean really just that nuts? Also, the bartender looked funny. But that wasn't the issue!

Drew rolled his eyes at Allison's retort.
"I do have fun, I just happen to have other things that require more attention. I don't exactly have the luxury of goofing off all day. Besides, I wouldn't have to worry about the fingers or arms if you'd just let go."
He'd been in a fairly good mood when he'd answered the phone. That was why he'd come. The good mood hadn't really lasted after Allison pulled this little stunt. Drew was fast becoming very nearly mad at her. It was more than just annoyance but not quite anger just yet. Not that it made much of a difference in the grand scheme of things. For all his complaints Allison still managed to drag him to this art festival thing that she'd found out about. Somehow it didn't surprise him at all that she'd decided to drag him here. Allison fit right in among these people, with the way she acted most of the time.
Yet she didn't even let him go when they arrived. No she merely dragged him along behind her toward a group of tables. This was to be how he spent his free time today huh? Being dragged along by a slightly insane mutant tattoo artist bound and determined to make him as nutty as she was. It wasn't exactly what he'd pictured for today. Drew sighed as she pulled him along and looked at the tables. Most of it didn't even rate a second look. It was either boring or just plain weird. However the banner above one table and the man behind it caught his eye.
The banner read, "Mutant Outreach Resource Alliance" and the man at the table looked positively normal. After the mimes, oddly dressed performers, and just strange people it was rather refreshing to see. Drew turned his gaze to the ink pooled on his fingers and glared. If only a certain crazy girl would let him go.

Gina managed to get the hang of things quickly enough. Soon enough they were headed back into the fray and Gina lobbed four balloons into the air. Three of the four hit their targets, much to said targets' chagrin. Drew just smirked at them and kept going.
"Nice shooting captain! How you doing back there?"
He did want to make sure she was ok after all. Drew headed back toward the main field of battle only to discover it empty. Apparently the rest of the battle had concluded without them.
"Well captain it looks like they went and had the battle without us!"
Drew looked around, spying the other participants only to see that they were headed inside too.
"Looks like we won by being the last ones fighting captain."
He set down the bucket of water balloons.
"Still, seems like a shame to waste this much ammo."
He grinned to himself, dropped the bucket, and at the same time loosed his hold on Gina so that she would fall to the ground. If the others were going to call it quits then he and Gina would fight for supremacy!

If Drew noticed the arm contact beyond knowing that it was there he didn't give any indication of it. At least outwardly. Inwardly was a slightly different story since he was pretty sure friends didn't do that unless they were pretty close. However he shrugged it off. One linking of arms did not interest make. Apparently she liked the idea of training with him. Drew smiled at the use of his phrasing.
"I read, watch tv, or bake. When I'm not working or training that is."
Really his days were usually pretty full so days like today when he could get away for a few hours and do something were rare. He enjoyed them when he could. Like now, walking through Central Park just before dark with an attractive young woman on his arm and a change to his mutation looming. Times like this were something that Drew really enjoyed. Of course the girl was probably just a friend, they'd probably get mugged before they could get to the car, and the change to his mutation would probably prove to be just as much of a pain as the old version of it was. Still, he tried to remain optimistic because hey, not everything could be against him right?

Upon hearing what sounded like a stifled laugh Drew looked up to see Kate in the doorway to the kitchen. He gave her a small smile.
"Just got the cookies out of the oven and there's a kettle on if you want tea. Any particular preference for that by the way?"
He didn't much care but Drew figured that Kate might so he'd ask her. He tossed a some cookies on a platter from the larger dish and walked them over to the table.
"Listen, I'd like to apologize for what I said. I'm sure you've got your reasons for what you did even if I don't like them. I had no call to say what I did to you."
When in doubt, apologize. It worked most of the time but could backfire spectacularly if the person didn't like apologies. Drew just hoped it worked this time. He really didn't want a repeat of the burning chair here in the kitchen. Drew headed back over to the cooking area to try and find some tea for the kettle.

Maya agreed with his dislike of guns, though he doubted it was for the same reason. Then again, he knew very little about this member of the team so it wasn't an impossibility that Maya could have shot and killed someone. It just seemed unlikely. Drew drowned any possible thoughts about it in beer as Maya explained that she used a bow and arrow. He chuckled a bit at her comment on trying jousting too.
"Eh, I've just never really picked up a weapon. Anytime I've fought it's been spur of the moment and there generally wasn't much for me to improvise with. The only time I've used a weapon in a fight was a gun and...well never again."
Drew listened to Maya list off some of her more interesting fights. He drained his beer while she did and began to order another only to stop dead when Maya mentioned a girl with pink blades. That sounded an awful lot like Aura. He looked over at his drinking partner with curiousness writ plain on his face.
"The girl with pink blades, her name wouldn't be Aura would it?"
He hoped it wasn't. Drew respected Aura a fair bit and he'd hate to find out she wasn't really worthy of it.

Drew just laughed at Maya when she said she was sorry he took a hit for women being trouble. When he stopped laughing he grinned at her.
"Yeah well that's not the only reason I've taken a hit and fighting you was a cakewalk compared to having my head nearly squashed like a tomato by a guy with massive hands, risking being skewered by a wannabe mutant with nasty metal spikes, or facing off against a flaming fanatic and I mean that literally."
Looking back at those instances he'd been incredibly lucky. He could have easily died any of those times and he knew that. However Drew wouldn't change what he'd done given the chance. It had been the right thing to do.
"Yeah, Sam's been training me. Can't say I've got a favorite weapon though. I guess anything but a gun."
Every time he'd fought so far it had been with his bare hands. Drew took a drink. Would his fights have turned out better if he'd had a weapon? Maybe. But he hadn't really had anything on hand any time he'd fought. Well...there was last Halloween but that hardly counted.

"Ow! Easy on the arm Allison! You'll tear it off!"
It was a bit embarrassing to be dragged through the streets of New York like the child that didn't want to go to the dentist. However both he and Allison had just discovered that the ink of his promise tattoos could not leave the body. That was all well and good except when the red head was using that ink to drag him along the streets a full foot behind her clenched hand.
To clarify somewhat, Allison had called him earlier demanding that he meet her up somewhere so she could change his tattoo. Drew had been expecting this so he went right along with it. At least until he showed up and it turned out that she'd had no plans at all to alter his tattoo. Well beyond a minor touch up here and there by shifting around some of the black ink from his promise tattoos. He suspected he hadn't even needed that much and that she'd just been lulling him into a false sense of security. In either case she'd tried to remove some only to find out that she couldn't. That was a shock. At least to him anyway. Well one thing led to another and Allison attempted to haul him off to some performance art exhibition.
Now to be fair he didn't dislike mimes, contortionist, fire eaters, living statues and the like. Drew just didn't like being dragged along under false pretense. So he'd attempted to reclaim his arm and leave. Only to have Allison seize hold of his promise ink and drag him along. That led to this, being dragged along behind a grumbling red head with all the black ink from his tattoo condensed onto his fingers and those outstretched in front of his as though he were reaching for something.

It was hard not to laugh at Maya's comments so he did.
"Yeah, she's a little bit of a space case but fun."
Maya thought it would be awesome to meet her. Drew grinned.
"Well then I'll give her a call sometime and we can meet up with her."
The smirk on Maya's face told him to brace for another comment so he wasn't entirely caught off guard by the comment on his preferences. He just grinned.
"Yeah, girls and guys. I get more options but it doesn't get any easier." Drew took a drink as he thought of Tasean in response to Maya's question, "Right now? Not really. There is this guy Tasean but I'm not so sure that'll work out. It's been a while since I last saw him."
He sighed and then gave a shrug.
"Oh well. Such is life huh? Women are trouble and guys are no better."

He didn't really notice Lydia walking closer to him. No he was a little surprised at the vehemence in her tone when she mentioned wishing that they had picked on someone more dangerous. Drew understood completely but he hadn't thought that Lydia would agree with him so completely on the issue.
"Yes well. It's a good thing and a bad thing that they didn't pick on someone more dangerous. Good because they and people like them don't have more ammunition for saying that mutants are horrible and all the crap they say. Bad because I like to think they'd think twice about hassling another mutant if they got laid up in the hospital over it."
He let her guide the conversation away from that topic however and just smiled at her.
"Well I could always work with you if you want. Really the best thing for it is practice. Learn by doing."
Drew would be glad to help Lydia out by showing her the ropes so far as fighting was concerned.
"I'm still learning too but we can learn together."

He winced at Maya's suggestion that he might end up keeping someone else's promises.
"Lord I hope not. It's annoying enough as it is. "
Then he chuckled and took a drink of the newly arrived beer. Maya commented on the vines and he smirked.
"That's sort of part my mutation and part someone else's. Ran into a girl who controls ink. My mutation gives me a very boring tattoo every time I make a promise. Wouldn't you know she thought it'd be a great idea to use what I already had to make this. Still, it's better than a plain black band so I can't complain too much." Drew laughed a bit, "Besides, next time I meet her she'll probably change it."
He looked at Maya.
"Well, you'll never know until you try. I could introduce you to Allison. Fair warning though, she might just decide to give you what she feels like drawing."

He smirked and rolled his eyes.
"You have no idea...well actually you probably do. Besides, there's always the chance of ending up with a promise to the wrong people."
Maya related what Drew suspected was a very shortened and edited version of how her mutation had changed to let her take people with her into the mirrors.
"Well that's good to know. Mine's been acting funny for almost two weeks now and then just a few days ago I very nearly took a promise from someone else. So..." Drew raised his beer and gave a toasting motion before draining it and motioning for another, "Here's to making sure people keep their word and changing mutations."
Drew leaned back for a moment or two. It was good to talk about this. Not only was he pleased to be able to tell someone about it but the fact that his mutation was probably changing put Drew in a darn good mood. He grinned again. Maya was a good person to go out for a beer with.
