The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Boyfriend? Jude couldn't help but look between the two and judge. The trend was definitely for beautiful women to date older guys. He'd done well to find an age just barely above Svetlana's.
She offered her hand and Jude hesitated. He'd practiced this so that he could touch mutants and not jump to their power automatically, but… touch did make the transfer easier. He shook her hand with his guard up on high alert.
Didn't seem to matter, though. His power took one lazy lick from under his skin. Mutant, but not something his power was interested in. The old guy all but confirmed Jude's mutant assessment when he told the Frenchman that Lumen was not like him. The guy probably meant to make it sound like she was human, but Jude knew better. He took the man's meaning as "not immortal."
Still, Jude was relieved to let go. Some mutants could do funny things once they had touched you. Not that he'd seen any of that in the future…
"Alister iz unavailable, but he isn't ze only future seer in ze family. We split our time tending shop, but when we saw you returning zis morning we decided we would rathzer have me here. Also, he told me I may need a fork." Dark eyebrows jumped just barely above the line of his sunglasses. Take that mister long-lived. Yeah. Jude had his number.
As for the lovely, lovely lady's request Jude had a counter offer. "Would you care for some coffee? A fresh pot is on for when you say yes." Even if they said no, the hint that in some future they had said yes would help his rep as the fill-in future seer. Repeat customers or referrals always expected to get the same seer. Sometimes Alister had to do a little convincing that he was also quite capable for Jude's seconds, just as Jude was doing the convincing now.
"Pricing is listed on ze sign, payment is due upfront withs no refunds for undesirable futures. Also, if he iz holding your hand ze whole time, he'll get to see too. If zat iz what you want…" He shrugged. Sure. Whatever. If that was what she wanted. "But sometimes a future can be a very personal sing." Like twins. Geez. He was still not ready to be a father, but Svetlana had taken that one in stride.
"Wow you were lucky." From punk to marriage material? The Matchmaker had to have a way with people.
"Also, poor, poor rich guy." Jude grinned. Rich Guy: 0, Jude: 1 as far as he was concerned. They were eating richly enough now, even if this was a luxury he couldn't always provide for Svetlana.
"What happened withs him? Did you kill him and make it look like an accident?"
Svetty was not a killer or a punk as far as Jude was concerned.
Jude fumbled to catch his wallet before it hit the icky ground. It was close, but on the third bobble, he managed to get a good grip on the thing. "First you're robbing me. Now you're accusing me of lying. You're scared stupid." As in, she was acting irrationally.
Poor little dinosaur. So unloved. He hadn't foreseen that. All he'd seen is that they eventually worked together. Like friends would. "How could I prove to you what you want to know?" He stuffed his wallet in his back pocket and tried to get a feel for any mutants that might be lurking nearby. She wouldn't let him touch her, but that didn't mean he couldn't still get her power. It was a risk worth taking in order to find Ghost.
And… now he watched her climb up a trash can to try to reach a fire escape… what a nutter!
"At least tell me How I can avoid exploding my head withs your power? If you don't want to help me, fine. But I like my brains between my ears." He folded his arms across his chest and considered going back for his coffee. She obviously didn't want him to follow her. He didn't want to spook her. What was left besides to watch her escape into the night like the pipe-wielding thief jerk she was.
Monday. Was. So. Slow. Most people were victims of the post-Christmas sleepiness. Getting up early the day before, staying up late with all those new toys and then the day after… who cared about the future? Most people were still trying to put off thoughts of going back to work for as long as they could.
Everybody else had to be at work.
The kids were all off their school routine without homework and Jude and Eros had tried their best to get them all something even if it wasn't a legitimate buy. By now, there was more than just Julia and Crow to think about and Jude turned into a proper (if temporary) crook just to get it all done and in place on time. All for the sake of Christmas.
Last year when he was still 11, all he'd had to do was wake up, eat pancakes, and open presents. He didn't even have to change out of his pajamas.
This year? He'd been looking to some time off to spend with Svetlana, but both Jude and Alister had foreseen visitors this morning. His date was cut short since Alister had already met one of the pair and didn't care to meet him again.
Don't read the man's future. Had been Alister's warning.
Immortal. Or at least, he would have a very, very long life. These things were troublesome.
Jude waited with his second cup of coffee and a fresh pot brewing, sunglasses squarely between his eyes and the door. This was his most important priority today.
The bells above the door jangled in their merrily offensive way to alert the Frenchman of what his eyes were already too aware.
"Welcome and welcome back, sir. What can we do for you today?" His usual accent pegged him as French, but the less nasal tone said he'd been an English speaker for a while.
"Hmmm." That was pretty damning evidence. Jude knew the police had thought Sebastian did it, but he wasn't aware that they had tried to forcefully drag him off after seeing the evidence.
"Ghost could escape anysing she wants to. Zat's what worries me." That maybe she didn't want to? Probably not. She wasn't suicidal. "Zere has to be some reason she isn't escaping now... or maybe she's staying away for a reason." But Jude had been down that road before a hundred million times. Without more information he just ran in mental circles. Jude ran his hands down his face to keep the tiredness at bay for a little while longer.
"Did you learn anysing about Ghost? You didn't see her go out a window or somesing?" Because that would be really convenient and would make him feel better.
"Is Bo withs ze rich lady?" Hmm. Maybe the rich lady would front the money for a visit if Jude begged hard enough. A visit here or a visit there. This was worth looking into, though, how he would contact the rich lady without Svetty knowing was beyond his current capabilities. Even if he went psychic or stole her phone, he somehow doubted the woman in question was labeled "rich lady" in Svetty's phone.
Also... "Punk Svetlana? No way. I need picture proof." Hey, it was only fair since she had seen his low moments as a child. He needed blackmail for her too!
Somehow, his bowl was getting empty now that he had stopped simply moving the food around. "So zis rich lady, what's she like?" Anything like his personal savior, Ghost?
Oh. Well that hadn't been the happy fuzzy up turn in the conversation he had hoped for. If she wanted to feel better about her parents, though, Jude had a whole other set to brag about still.
"I sink my bio-mom was a stalker if zat makes you feel any better. She wasn't from Saint Fargeau. Bio-dad was... or is, but he didn't want anysing to do withs her or me. She died when I was a baby so orphanage and adoption was the best I had hoped for as a kid before I saw ze future." How small minded he had been back then.
"What about Bo? You talk about her often. Is she still..." a safe topic to talk about? He didn't want to say that part out loud so he changed his angle of approach last minute. "in Russia? She still safe?" And did Svetty ever think about bringing her here? Not that either Svetlana or Jude were the best at supporting anyone else, but... if it was important to her Jude would try to help in any way she would let him.
"Zey nevertold me not to grow up, but zey had strongly encouraged me to spend my life in chronological order and get all my experiences in current time. Like skipping grades would stunt my mental growths or somethsing." Of course, he had gotten his way with skipping grades. And now he was even more than just skipping grades. He was skipping years. The legal issues alone were a headache. Add on top of that a seemingly psychopathic unicorn adoptive father who was going to end the world and it was no wonder his brain felt full.
"Just if I hadn't... I would have missed out on zis stimulating conversation." He muddled out a smile for her. This was not proper romantic dinner time conversation so he decided to try not to feel guilty about it even if he considered the whole affair selfish. He might have made it through childhood a second time if he hadn't met Svetlana. He would have whined the whole time, but he probably could have done it.
"Sorry. Not ze best dinner conversation." Jude would have to return Svetty to Aurum's sometime soon. No point wasting their time on regrets.
"Do you have parents?" Stupid question. Everybody had parents. "I mean, what are zey like? Still in Russia?"
"Of course it is good food. It's French." There was no small amount of pride in that statement.
"I mean zat I went out of my way to grow up. I left because I sought I could stop Sebastian better withs help. But also because I wanted to be a mutant." He moved the food around in his bowl. "And I wanted to be withs you. Zat couldn't happen if was still a kid."
"Voda." Jude tried it out and immediately noticed the contrast between the soft and nasal French that Svetty was repeating and the harsher consonants of Russian. "I feel like zere is a water brand withs zat name, but... maybe not." Maybe it was Voss? What language was that? Not that it mattered, he was learning Russian right now.
Jude repeated the process for cup, fork, plate, and once the salads came out he named the whole thing and then each part. He was sure to repeat the words as many times as she needed. French was funny sometimes in how things needed to sound.
By the time the main course arrived, Jude could practically feel his vocabulary expanding. "My brain is feeling a little full." He thanked the waiter who passed them a long and skinny piece of bread to go with their meal and then it was time to dig in. "Yours is a roast duck withs an orange vinegar sauce." The rice and vegetables, he was pretty sure Svetty could figure out on her own.
"Mine iz a peasant's meal, but it's nostalgic." He showed off the contents of his bowl. It looked like a mix between a stew and a gumbo. "It's beans and sausage... sometimes duck and carrots. Looks like maybe crouton too." He poked around in his bowl, inspecting.
It was a relief that her regrets were long since past. Jude's were all pretty recent. He broke the bread and passed Svetlana a piece. She probably don't like to think of as a kid, but it was hard for him to explain what was bothering him without thinking back to the times when he was 11 and she was unattainable. He vowed that he would do whatever it took to date her. Now here he was on a date. He wasn't unhappy. The feeling was more like... guilt?
"Égoïste means selfish." He continued the lesson and he picked at his comfort food. "I have been selfish about you, Svetty, and I'm afraid it cost me my family."
Kill Ghost? He had heard that one before, but with how much Kait knew about everything else surely she had some insight into what really happened that night n the apartment.
"You saw it? What did he do exactly? Zat could help us find her." Instead of bumming him out, that little tidbit actually gave him hope and something better to think about than the possible lie that his childhood had been built around.
"How did you know I am a copier?" Seriously. This girl had to be messed up in the head. There seemed to be a lot of that going around these days.
And now she was afraid of him? He hadn't done anything remotely threatening. All he'd done so far was hand over his wallet. Okay. Jude needed to calm the situation down and as sad it was, he was pretty sure that he needed to abandon his coffee. Jude set the steaming cup of warmth down and held his hands up.
"Look, you're robbing me. You have ze pipe. I'm not going to hurt you." She had all the power here in this situation. Seriously.
She stepped back and Jude stepped forward. Slowly. As non-threatening as a step can be.
His first point of business? "I would like my wallet back because it's cool." Totally way cool. If she didn't think so than she just wasn't as cool as he was. "You can have ze cash. Sorry sere isn't more, but I don't work for anybody who's trying to steal you or track you or put you in a box. I work minimum wage for a fortune teller." Minimum wage being the reason for the lack of cash, not more ammunition for her to make fun of him.
"I've been looking srough ze future for someone important to me and the closest I can find iz you. So you must be someone who can find people." That was the abridged version. And she'd already admitted to being a mutant who had the potential to explode her own brain by looking for mutants. So that was cool. He could just copy her power and be on his merry little way.
Still, he wanted to justify himself. She looked so… scared wasn't the right word. Maybe cornered? Like a wild animal? He still hadn't done anything that he thought was threatening. "I sink someone kidnapped her." Or killed her. Again, he was sticking with the shorter and happier side of this story. "So ze last sing I want to do is kidnap someone in order to save someone kidnapped." Did that make sense? "Two wrongs don't make it right."
So… could she stop running now? He could put down his unarmed hands and she could put down her pipe and they could talk about this like adults, but only if she wanted to.
Nöel hit him and then Sebastian took her away at sword point? Did he hear that right? Jude tapped his hears just in case. No. They didn't seem to be full of anything.
"So… she iz a hostage?" But the rustling sheets and the request to move over… that didn't sound like this Nöel was chained up or anything. "Or at least she's not ze one making demands." If Jude was a balloon it was this news that deflated him. If it wasn't Nöel's fault, then it had to be Sebastian's.
"But… he isn't like zis." It just didn't make sense.
Jude really shouldn't have sent him away, but the dude was immortal. He'd figured sending him home to take care of Ghost was the absolute safest place for him. It wasn't as if he could die. Physically. What was wrong with him? He'd failed at keeping Ghost safe, failed at keeping his pregnant wife safe. What kind of man did that?
"He didn't used to be…" Jude picked at a hole in the heel of his sock as the cogs turned in his head and he fount off another yawn. This wasn't a conversation for this late at night, but like it or not it was the conversation that was happening. "You don't sink, he was pretending before, do you?"
Did someone do something to make him a different man or was this how he really was all along? He and Ghost might have been too naive to tell the difference.
If Jude had Ghost or if Ghost were to talk to Sebastian, Jude was sure they would be able to figure something out. But she was still missing in action. Not dead. Just missing.
10? He was a good, solid 12 thankyouverymuchrobberlady. "It izzn't enough to rob me, but you must mock me as well?" Seriously. The nerve of some people. He gave her his wallet with such good grace, the least she could have done was to accept it and say thank you. Yeesh.
And he wasn't scared because he had seen the future. His future and hers intertwined and eventually led to Ghost. He hadn't expected the pipe bit and He definitely didn't see Ghost again until there were green things growing, but yes. This was the girl. The suspicious robbing-him-blind and mocking him girl.
"I'm no cop." Heh. Wouldn't he make for a fabulous policeman? "I work at a fortune teller's shop and..." And she totally wasn't even listening to him anymore. Her eyes had gone kind of hazy.
"Are you okay?"
> “A Copy Cat. Great!”
Blink blink. "And you're good at finding people." Had she had a future vision too? At least now they were even. "Can I have my wallet back yet?" This wasn't going at all as he thought it would.
Jude's eyebrows furrowed. Sheets rustling? And they were both heard talking... like close proximity talking. They were in the same bed and that was entirely alarming. What about Ghost? Why didn't Sebastian care about Ghost anymore?
"Noël." Jude repeated the name Kaitlyn supplied so that he would not forget it. Christmas. What a stupid name. "Did you meet her?"
Kaitlyn had one better.
> "Also, I... uhh... I think he tried to... do it with her, right there..." She even was able to point out the very spot. Which was close by. Way, way too close by. Jude scooted over a bit just to be safely out of range.
"Ewww. Zat's my... ewww. Are you sure it was him? Are you sure it wasn't her making ze moves? She looks crafty to me." Not that he had seen her up close ever. But she just looked that way. "I bet she has him under a spell." What a witch. That had to be it. "I'm so relieved that you came to tell me about the witchy spell Sebastian is under. That explains a lot."
Jude scrubbed his eyes. This was just another sleepless night in a string of many. He was entirely too old for this. "Will you stay here, Kait? Or do you have to go back somewhere?"
