The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

"Shin and Kealey moved out because zey felt the ghosts of what had happened." No pun intended. "Zat and nobody was paying ze utilities." Yeah. Fixing up was maaaaaay be a little bit of an understatement. "At least zere is no one zere to be bothzered... or to bothzer us."
Also... He sensed a trap.
"Why wouldn't I want to move in withs you? We did it before. Are you a bad roommate?" Well, last time they had only lived in the same apartment, not the same room.
"Or..." Or what? His brain was practically overheating trying to find the trap here. "Did you just want to live in ze same apartment? Like before?" Since no one was living there currently, they could probably take their pick of the rooms...
"Ohhhh." He hissed sympathetically and got them walking again. "A girlfriend would make sings awkward." And make this conversation perfectly timed too! Hehe! No future viewing needed! Jude felt a real thrill of excitement now because this was totally plausibly maybe possibly actually happening.
He also had them side-step a puddle. "Have you sought at all about where you want to live once you're on your own? Uptown, Midtown, Long Island East Village, Brooklyn? Usually people get an apartment close to zere work..." For the habitually unemployed, however... well, no, that wasn't right. They weren't habitually unemployed. Jude had a job that payed peanuts, but plenty of powers that he could possibly exploit for money. Also, the legitimate tutor thing that was still a bit shady since he couldn't do the whole upstanding citizen who payed their taxes thing.
Jude sighed. "We could also try to make ze Iris apartments livable again. What do you sink?" Sebastian owned the building so no rent. Just taxes and utilities or so the stack of un-paid bills said.
She stopped their aimless walking. Oh boy. Here it comes... Only. It didn't. She didn't suspect a thing, Svetty only wanted to opt out of the future talk. "I can leave out day to day, but... what if it iz important? You're going to get kidnapped or somesing? Should I not tell you and just do what I can to get us out of zat jam?"
He really wanted to know the limits of his no future talk. Sure, not bothering to tell her that she'll need a raincoat on Wednesday was all well and good, but some things were hard not to share. "Knowing ze future kinda does mess sings up." Usually for the better, but sometimes it was awkward. Like when he kept having to explain himself...
"Okay. You're right. I get it. No more future cheating. We'll go see horrible cockaroach infested apartments like everyone else."
And really, an apartment was a HUMONGOUS step. "I don't sink I snore." But it was an idea he had sort of tossed around in his head before he ever considered lying about it. "And I don't have any furniture." They could loot Sebastian and Ghost's apartment for that, but... it seemed a bit classless.
"What do you mean you don't have anywhere to stay? You're living withs Aurum."
"You are right. I don't know anysing about you beyond what you're showing me." Which was a girl so scared and so full of problems that Jude was willing to let her go. Did he needed to re-insult her? Jude thought not. And he'd never said she was an idiot. Only that she was scared into acting stupid.
With his coffee recovered, Jude tested the temperature. Perfect for sipping now that it had time to cool but a few more minutes and it would be too cold. He ignored her lecture on lies. He wasn't lying. As far as he knew, he hadn't lied to her yet. She didn't have to believe that. He knew the truth.
"Yeah, yeah." He waved off her threats of brain bleeds. "I've had mental powers before. Yours can't be zat much scarier." Not that he'd taken it yet. It would be better to be closer before he tried and she kept running away.
Jude was never going to sleep again ever in his life. Alister was going to make sure of that. He lamented this thought with both hands in his hair and a "ugh!" sound. Jude face planted into the nearest couch pillow.
Speak of the devil.
Kait played the recording and at first it was a lot of scratchy scraping. Totally snooze worthy. But then... Sebastian? And... Calley. More scratching.
Calley was calling him "New Boss Man." Sebastian was... the whole thing fuzzed out with a shocked kitty sound.
"I sink your bug is dead." That was just about the safest thing he could think to say about what they'd just heard. Calley was on their side. Jude knew he was a dirty rat. This just confirmed it.
"We'll go apartment shopping sometime early next week. Not sure what prompts it..." He peeked out of the corner of his eye to see if he was getting in trouble yet or not. Hey. He really could have seen it happening! And besides, he was really getting tired of getting kicked out of the bedroom out onto the couches for everyone else's safety. "Maybe it's the edge of your power sing." Actually, that had a lot to do with why he didn't want to risk it before, but... if they could afford a big enough space then nobody would really have to be bothered.
He was liking this little white lie more and more.
"As far as I can tell we haven't found an apartment yet. I can look ahead and tell us which ones not to go to, zough." Talking as if it were a done deal... would that scare her off?
"I'm sorry. Would you... like to? Or want to move in? Togethser?" There. That was better. He'd asked her nicely.
"I was going to say you were too smart to be jealous, but... the hot sing works too." He grinned his little grin again because he felt like he was "winning" this one. He was going to credit her mind and she was the one who made it all about the looks. Silly Svetty.
"We may have just started dating, but sings are getting really serious. Really fast." His hand slid from poking her along her back and around her other shoulder. They were walking with nowhere in mind again. Jude didn't want to return her to Aurum's apartment, but he didn't have anywhere better to take her. His home was full of mutant kids. Almost, but not quite as bad as the Mansion.
"You're gonna have my babies. You're teaching me Russian. And you're going to move in withs me." He threw that last one out there to sort of test the waters. He could always say that he saw that in the future. The ever-shifting future that didn't have to come true if she didn't want it to.
> "What makes him so powerful? His mutation surely must be more than a horn sticking out of his forehead."
"It's more zan a mutation zat makes a man dangerous." Not that a mutation didn't make someone even worse. "Add onto zat Sebastian cannot die... just about anysing can be twisted." Healing seemed like such a nice power... maybe it was Jude's personal connection to Sebastian that gave him the willies. That and... "He iz on a path to end ze world."
His warning given, now Jude felt a bit drained. He couldn't stop Lumen from seeing Sebastian if that was what she wanted to do. She was an adult and Jude respected that. He sure as heck expected other adults to do the same for him and his choices.
> "It's nice to see you again Jude."
Cogs turned as Jude re-evaluated the man. Oh. He had seen him before. "Ze art show." Being spoken to in French flipped the proverbial switch in his head. He couldn't help but respond in kind.
> "You've grown since I last saw you."
"It's a long story, but I wasn't a child even then." This guy had met Ghost and Jude couldn't decide if that was a good or bad thing. "Do you remember the woman I was with at the party?" He was sure the guy would. Who wouldn't? Ghost had been spectacular. "She's missing. Not a kid... not who your girlfriend is looking for, but... she's tied up in this too."
Could he ask for this guy's help? He hadn't looked into what that would do... These were two players he hadn't perviously taken note of. But they could help. Or they could hurt. Jude needed to bounce futures off of Alister to make sure which side they were on.
Jude chuckled lowly, a man's chuckle when he's thinking of non-polite conversation topics. "I seriously doubt zat. Ze other blonde… zat was a very clinical situation. No heart involved at all. Not to mention sat I was still a kid zen. Doctor Blonde probably would not even remember my name ze next day."
Svetty thought she'd had him cornered, but no. This was something he had already considered. There was only one blonde he knew and loved. "Jealous?" Jude poked at Svetty's ribs under his arm in order to make her giggle. Yeah. He was totally a catch. She was jealous of some lady neither of them had ever met.
This was the most surreal vision of the future Jude had ever experienced. Usually he got snippets and metaphors. Something he felt that he could navigate. Lumen's dream might as well have been a living painting. The colors and vision bled from one thing into another with no anchors to help him guide their way.
In short, it was disorienting, but he had gotten some very important snippets from this one. Lumen was tied to this mess with Sebastian. They really were dating. (Ew. Experiencing kissing that guy had not been on his morning to-do list!) Also, she was interested in the same kids he'd run himself ragged last night trying to play Santa for.
Jude's hand fumbled in the air until he caught hold of Lumen's wrist. "Wait."
He had set his glasses down on the table and had to use his other hand to scoop them up and juggle them onto his face. Not that touching her was a good idea. Once his glasses were on he let her go and got out of his seat.
"Jude Csendes." He answered Paul's question flippantly despite the fact that he knew his name was on that missing children's list as a missing 12 year old.
"Lumen, you meet…" He wasn't his father. Not exactly. Jude visibly had to re-group himself behind his sunglasses and try again. "You meet a unicorn in your future. I can't stress enough how dangerous he is. He is not in his right mind and may have hurt people that he once loved… without meaning to." That last he added with absolutely no faith in the statement, but it had to be said. Deep down, he still believed that Sebastian was a good man. Just… that belief was getting buried really uncomfortably deep these days.
Jude set Lumen's coffee down on the counter for her and nodded to the man who was finding a seat on one of the purple monstrosities they called couches. They were totally not dating. They were too keen on calling each other sweety and making a show out of it. Only newlyweds or fakers went that far. Whatever.
The till dinged. Jude accepted his fare and then he was ready to talk business. "Readings are usually random, but repeat customers often tell me zat zey have been able to change what we see by changing zere mind. Our futures are all based on ze decisions we make now, after all." Jude tore off a receipt that did little more than list the name of the establishment and her paid total and handed it to the beauty in front of him. He wasn't about to tell her how focused he had been able to get while bouncing futures off of Alister.
"If you would like, we can sit. It's quite disorienting for some." Jude motioned to a small table with a table clothed top. Sometimes they put a crystal ball on top purely for decoration, but that had been cleared in favor of a small dish of chocolates, peppermints and empty wrappers. The Christmas season was slow and... hey, who didn't like candy?
"We can try to look for somesing specific, but zere's no guarantee, unfortunately. Ze future iz not always cooperative."
Jude would follow he lady's lead, make sure she was comfortable and inform her of the rules (no touching during future readings, look into his eyes, etc, etc.) then ask the inevitable. "Are you ready?" Once she was, the sunglasses that made the barrier between them would come down and upon eye contact, the future would be open to Lumen.
((OOC: hope you know what you're planning to see! ))
"I knew what happened last time." Paying with cash made things easy. Jude just slipped a little more than the total and said with the air of a rich man doing a poor man a favor that he needed no change. "And I did see options for how it could happen zis time. Two blondes diverged in a future vision... you know. Ze usual story." Not quite Robert Frost, but Jude was doing his best here.
"I only knew you, not zat othser woman. Sorry I sort of jumped you zat night." He had been a stupid kid with a stupid suit and a stupid hope that someday this lady would kiss him. Jude offered his arm to Svetlana after they'd both gotten up from their table.
"All I wanted was true love's kiss." He grinned. She was his prince who had awoken him from his mutant slumber.
"Selling M? Zat's ridiculous." Jude dismissed the idea of the pish-posh that it was.
Though... once he really started thinking about it... "What's M?" Something that had been in the apartment? "If zere was zat much of it, don't you sink I would have seen it zere? Somewhere? I don't sink Ghost is zat sneaky."
But... if she was... "Augh! I don't like zis conjecture stuff. I feel like I don't even know my own family anymore. Ghost does not sell drugs. Sebastian does not kill Ghost. End of story. Zat's how it is." Surely he hadn't been living amongst killers and drug dealers and thinking that they were a loving and supportive family. Jude tugged at his hair in frustration before deciding it was all moot anyway.
"Nope. Zis is crazy talk. Nothsing good happens after midnight. So you, on ze couch for bed. I can find you a blanket and well figure zis out in ze morning."
And... he would find somewhere else to sleep because he didn't want to explode anything on accident.
It was a little funny. "No? Not even a little?" Psh. Not like she'd really killed anyone. Had she? Nah. She was just sensitive and kind. That was totally it.
Jude made a distinct "ooooh ouch" face when he heard about the acid. Also the not rich part. Jude would have dumped him too. "When did you find out about your powers?" Jude knew how he did both times. If he had to pick one, he was definitely liking this time around better.
It looked as if they were scraping down to the bottoms of their plates and bowls. The frenchman fished out his wallet and attempted to flag down their waiter. Not that sitting and talking in this environment wasn't nice but the were taking up a table in an already crowded room.
