The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Jorge
Jorge played and sang his heart out. This was one of his favorite songs from when he was growing up and had always struck a chord with him. The 80s were not for everyone, but Jorge remembered them fondly. This was one of those songs that snuck into the back of his remained there until the right moment. Maybe that was why he decided to play it for her this night, right before he was going to propose. Because once he decided to do so, the song snuck back into his head after who knows how long of not listening to it.
Again…kismet.
Throughout the song, Jorge kept Gemma in the back of his mind, trying to keep focused on that rather than thinking of possibly messing up his song. Though he could not remember clearly, by the time he got to the end of it and sang out that last note, he was fairly certain that he did not stumble over any words or misplay any of the chords. It seemed as if he had actually pulled it off.
He opened his eyes, smiled a little that he had actually gotten through it, and looked up to see the smiling faces of the crowd. People began to applause, clap, and before long, Jorge stood up and gave a slight bow.
But, peering through the faces, he sought the expression of only one person. And there he saw her, at the very back, still sitting on her bench with a look on her face that seemed like a mixture of dreaminess and awe. He smiled and hoped that she enjoyed the song and would not kill him too terribly for pointing her before.
Jerry returned to the stage, clapped and patted Jorge on the back.
“Beautiful job, my friend! Just beautiful! Another round of applause?” he asked as he began to clap.
Jorge waved to the crowd as they all clapped while he exited the stage. His guitar still in hand, he looked a little shyly to Gemma, finding her still sitting there, her eyes only showing surprise. As the next presenter, another poet came onto the stage, stood in front of his girlfriend and just beamed.
“Tell me that was not as corny or as bad as I’m thinking it was?”

>> "No, you did not..."
The words rebounded in his head as he smirked to himself, actually a little pleased that he had managed to surprise her. Though Jorge was, by no means a rock star, he had been told more often than not that he was actually a pretty good singer and played the guitar well enough. He rarely played much these days, being busy with work and all, but he hoped that he could pull this off for Gemma, if only for one night, for this one moment.
Lord, please do not let my voice crack or my fingers go numb, was all he thought.
“Thanks Jerry,” he smiled as he took his guitar from him.
It seemed like it had been forever since he picked it up to actually play it. He grabbed a stool and placed it in front of the microphone, looking out at the gathering of smiling faces before him. There was only one face in which he was particular interesting in seeing, and that was the look on the face of Gemma Taylor as she was seated on a bench towards the back. He gave her a smile, tapped the mic to make sure it was working, and chuckling, sighing a little as he looked out across the people.
“Wow, heh, been a long time since I’ve done anything like this,” he chuckled as he glanced to all the happy people. He cleared his throat as he played a few minor chords on his guitar, just getting the feel for it. “Well, ladies and gentlemen, uh, as your wonderful host just said, my name is Jorge Cervantes and…I guess I’m up here to perform.” he said while fiddle with the chords. “I am up here tonight, because, well honestly, I am in love.” He continued to strum more chords that gradually grew into a melody. “We all say things like that, but…honestly and truly, I am in love. To that lovely woman over there,’ he grinned as he nodded to Gemma. “Say hi, babe.”
The crowd turned and “awww’d” as they clapped a little for Gemma. Whenever she was done waving at them they grinned as they turned back around, dreamy looks of romance on their faces. Jorge smirked and, whenever Gemma was red enough from all the attention, strummed a tune that would start his song.
“Beautiful, isn’t she?” he beamed. “Well…I…um…I dedicate this song, to you, Gemma. Because…I love you…and…here we go!”
With that, Jorge took a breath, closed his eyes and…started to play and sing… this song…

She swayed with the almost lyrical sound of the poem and the detective once again was washed over with relief. It felt so good to know that things were going off without a hitch. Problem was though that as each of these moments were hit, it all meant that he was getting closer and closer to the one that he feared the most. He needed to remember that she still did not even know of the proposal so there was still a little bit of dread there. But…he kept his will strong.
>> "Perfect…Really perfect."
He smiled, gently, as he sat onto a nearby bench, watching and listening to the poem being read.
When Jorge was first doing research about the perfect setting to ask this woman to marry him, he stumbled across a rumor that the Renaissance League wanted to play in the Botanical Gardens. They were heading it up as their “Night of Romance” and all the readers and presenters would be reciting, singing, or painting their love and sharing it with the small audience that always gathered. To Jorge it seemed almost like destiny; the first group he ever took her to on their first date just happened to be displaying a night of romance at the time he wanted to propose; it was kismet.
He obviously couldn’t pass up the opportunity.
Gemma seemed like she was really enjoying herself, out here in nature and surrounded by warm light and the sounds of poets baring their sounds. It really was a perfect setting, exactly what he had wanted. Now, though, it was time for the next phase. Casually he glanced at his watch…they were right on time.
The last poet finished reciting her piece and gave a small bow amidst the applause. Up onto the stage came a small, wiry man, handsome with sandy blonde hair. He smiled and applauded along with the crowd until the woman reclaimed her seat.
“Lovely poem, just lovely,” the man beamed. “Tonight…truly is a night of romance and spirituality. A time of the year when a person can truly open his heart to those that he or she loves dearly.” He then paused as he peered out into the audience. It seemed as if his eyes had settled on Jorge and Gemma. “And…as I understand it, we have another presenter. Someone who truly wishes to express himself tonight. Is there a…Jorge Cervantes out there?”
Jorge lowered his head, and smirked. Of course Jerry, from Human Resources, would ham it up just a tad. He could only shake his head and chuckle. He then raised his hand Jerry, who applauded him from the stage and waved for him to come up. The detective glanced at Gemma, a small smirk on his place.
“If you’ll excuse me for a second,” he beamed at then, then made his way to the stage…where Jerry was handing out Jorge’s guitar.

>> "Oh wow...Jorge, this is gorgeus..."
The expression on her face was absolutely priceless. It made most of his nerves about the evening worthwhile and he was all the happier that he made her happy. She really seemed like she enjoyed this spot, a place that gleamed with the glory and beauty of nature that few people actually took part in. It was a sad but ultimately the truth when concerning the modern society. Too many times people actually ignored the true beauty of the world around them. At least there were still places like this to allow people to partake in it.
Walking up the steps and around the pool, he smiled as she leaned against him, arm encircling her’s as they strolled along. It was certainly a calm and peaceful night. Not many people were out, the air was cool and fragrant, it was the perfect setting for two people in love. And Jorge did definitely feel in love with this woman.
>> "You always find the most amazing places…I love it."
He squeezed his arm around her, hugging, as they walked in. It definitely made him feel good to listen to her compliments. Too long out of the dating scene, when he first started dating Gemma Taylor, he always feared that he was too out of practice, that he was going to mess things up because he’d forgotten what is was like to be in a sustaining relationship. Thankfully, though, he was at least doing some things right.
Indeed, the cop was happy as he strolled through the night air with her, moving through the outside garden. There were plenty of things to see inside, various exotic flowers and such, but, he wanted to be outside with her; in the cool air so that he could look at her under the moonlight and be reminded every second why he was doing this.
It was during their stroll, though, that the couple happened across the sounds of voices that were reciting sweet lyrics and amidst a group of various other people that were watching with smiles on their faces. Jorge smirked as he heard the poem being recited and turned his attention back to Gemma.
“Do you remember our first date?” he asked. “Before the evening was over, I took you see a group, some people that held artistic-like shows, the Renaissance League?” It was so long ago he thought that she would have forgotten all about them. But, on the off chance that she didn’t, he figured this would be the perfect way to segue into that question he wanted to ask her. Especially since he had something planned with this group. “I found out that they were having a gathering tonight. I…heh…thought it would be fun to stop by and listen to them for a little bit, just to complete the evening?”
Around the corner of bushes, there was where the Renaissance League had set themselves up. An expanse of grass had various blankets set up, as well a tiny stage where a young woman was reciting a rather beautiful poem. All around, paper lanterns were hung up, illuminating the scene with a soft, warm glow. It truly was a scene the embodied romance…

>> "Depends on what you have in mind…You are not going to tell me are you..."
“All good things come to those who wait,” he responded with a nod. Then he tilted his head, looking at her with a witty look. “I thought you were a counselor?”
He smirked as he shook his head though. The man had a rather enigmatic and diabolical grin on his face, almost like he was up to something but the truth of that could never be validated. Instead the man only smiled, neither confirming nor denying with the expression on his face. No matter how hard she asked him, he was not going to tell her anything. After all, he had his secrets and if he was going to propose tonight, he wanted it to, hopefully, be a surprise. The kiss, though, was enough to crack his resolve…just a little bit.
Damn her feminine wiles…
“Well,” he said slyly as he circled his arms around her hips and kissed her softly. “You’re welcome to keep trying to get it out of me. But it be may be better if you just wait.” he grinned.
He kissed her cheek one last time before he opened the car door for her, moved around to his side of the vehicle and climbed in. Once he started up the engine, they were off again to continue this date.
The whole evening seemed to be moving much faster than the detective thought it would be moving. Maybe it was because of anticipation, maybe from nerves, but they were quickly approaching that time where he would ask the question that would change the both of their lives forever. Either she would say yes and he would be the happiest man on this planet, or she would say no and it would lead to a rather awkward time. The prospects were far too terrifying to remain focused on so he tried to keep his mind on driving to their next destination.
As they drew closer, he finally decided that he would at least give her a hint as to what they were going to see next.
“I hope you like this place,” he said to Gemma. “I’ve never been but you should hopefully recognize something there.”
He smiled again as he pulled up a rather elegant looking building, alit with lamps and stone benches. All of these stretched around the perimeter of a large, reflection pool that housed a small variety of water flora that grew in the very water. The steps leading up to this pool, and the building behind it, were line with a few pillars that only said: “Welcome to the Botanical Gardens!”
Jorge sighed as he cautioned a glance to his long time girlfriend. “Stop number two. A beautiful setting for a beautiful woman.”

FATALITY![/b]
The word flashed across the very air and caused Jorge to arch a brow. He looked down into the pit again and saw, indeed, that Scorpion was gone. The line from his harpoon waved lazily in the open air so Jorge lowered his head as he untied it from the spine and began to loop the rope around the blade. He tucked that into his belt, as well as picked up his hammer which had gone skidding across the bridge earlier. He was already more than tired of this whole thing and he wanted it over.
A snarl on his lips he stormed towards the opening that Scorpion had come in through the first time. The bars were still in place. He kicked them, hard, and whirled back around to scream at the sky itself.
“What’s wrong, Game Lord?!” he shouted. “Scared that I’m going to win your little game!? Because so far, that is two levels down!”
The air said nothing in response. The cackling voice, the mocking tone, that resounded in his head the last few times refused to answer his statement. It was obvious that Jorge was striking a nerve with this kid, conquering all his favorite games, apparently. Of course that led the detective to wonder just how many levels Game Lord had put into this place. Did he even expect Jorge to make it past the first one? If not then that could only mean that the villain would get sloppy putting together the next one and the one after that.
Oh yes. Jorge was going to keep going. He didn’t care how many levels it took, but he was going to win each and every single one of them just for the simple pleasure of seeing the look on Game Lord’s face.
He cracked his neck to the side again.
“Your move, Game Lord!” Jorge yelled as he suddenly pulled the hammer from his belt, pointed it at the bars and fired hammer after hammer at it until the bars exploded into pixels.
“NO! CHEATER!!!”
Jorge smirked.
“So…you are still there. Game’s on Simon!” Jorge yelled as he stormed through the opening and into the next level that Game Lord scrambled to put together.

Jorge
Jorge quickly slithered back to his clothes, seeped into them and reformed (it was better than reforming in the nude). Just as he did, he looked down to see the harpoon and line it was attached slowly unwinding, following the falling body of Scorpion as he sailed down into the pit below. Against his bettered judgment, the detective was quick as he grabbed the barb and line and, as fast as he could, lashed it around one of the boney spines along the edge of the bridge. Apparently it was just in time because as soon as he was done, the line went taut.
There was a gasp and cry. Jorge leaned over the edge and looked down to see the ninja, flailing as he held onto his own line, hovering over the massive amount of spikes that jutted out from the ground below. Scorpion growled as he swung there, and turned his gaze up to meet Jorge’s.
“Surrender the fight and I’ll let you climb up!” Jorge shouted down to him. “I don’t have time to waste with you!”
A deep, hated laughter erupted from the ninja’s chest as he shook his head. His maddened cackles reached Jorge’s ears and instantly he knew that things were not going to be that easy.
“You show mercy! That is your weakness!” Scorpion yelled up to him. “Don’t you see? There is no room for mercy or ties in Mortal Kombat! Only one of us may win!”
“Bull!” Jorge shouted. “I don’t take lives! I enforce justice!”
Scorpion raised his eyes, meeting Jorge’s gaze so far above him. There was an second in which the two regarded each other, that offered a second of hope that maybe things did not have to end in such a way. But, a glance behind the detective and Scorpion could only lower his head. The pixilated timer had only seconds left…and his health bar was lower than Jorge’s.
“Then your conscience should be clear!” Scorpion yelled and pointed behind him.
Jorge blinked as he turned to look back at that timer that hovered in the air between the two health bars. Scorpion’s seemed to have the lowest bar. And, just as he Jorge watched the timer reach double zeros…the line went loose.

Jorge could already feel it, the calm in his mind, the gentle, soothing feeling of water over taking his body. The fiery ninja above him perceived none of these happenings that went on inside the detective, as proved by the fact that he still loomed above him and arched his arm to bring the sword down with all his might. All Jorge needed was a couple more seconds to be sure that this was going to work, but he was quickly proving to be out of time.
“Arrrgh!!!” Scorpion yelled as he brought the sword down with all his might.
The detective chanced it. He lunged himself upward, with all his might and just as he was about to meet the sword with his skull, Jorge pushed his focus to its limits. He was either going to die or live…
The ninja would have taken satisfaction when he felt the sword sink into the flesh, only it was not flesh it sunk into…but water. The form of the detective, as he pulled himself up onto the bridge, collapsed into a spray of water as the blade tore through him. A few droplets splashed over the edge the bridge but not attention was paid to it. The majority of it landed directly onto the bridge and spread out, slithering away from the ninja, pooling and forming itself into the humanoid shape of a creature that was entirely made of water.
The elemental’s eyes glared at the surprised ninja before suddenly he lashed out with his massive, watery fist and struck it hard across Scorpion’s face. One punch followed another as Jorge moved into the fight, forcing the ninja to retreat backwards, step after step. Every time Scorpion attempted to summon more fire, it was doused by Jorge as he sloshed forward, his body churning with the rapid waves of water.
“Nooo!” Scorpion screamed as he stumbled back, exhausted, before he suddenly shot out that harpoon again. It harmlessly splashed through Jorge’s mid-section, prompting the watery creature to tilt his head curiously. “It can’t end like this! My reven--!!”
Another lunge and punch and suddenly the ninja went flying, sailing over the edge and into the chasm below…

Dinner was fantastic. The food was actually fair better and portioned than Jorge thought they would be. That was always the fear of going to fancy places, that they would be fed grass and kernel of corn as their main course. But this place did just an absolute wonderful job. The food smelled and tasted wonderful, the drinks were tasty, and, obviously, the conversation and company was just wonderful as well. Jorge soon found himself almost forgetting the special, underling reason as to why he asked Gemma out on this specific night. So calm was he, so satisfied were her nerves, that the detective had nearly forgotten all about the ring box that sat in his pocket.
But, as they laughed and shared and caught up for the week, Jorge slowly began to remember exactly what lay in wait inside of his coat. It was nearly time for that moment, but first they needed to get to their second destination. Hopefully they could get there without him fainting or being wracked with nerves again.
The bill came and, after some glaring and discussion, Jorge managed to snag the bill from her and pay for the evening. Once all that was squared away, the detective sighed as he straightened up and offered Gemma his arm to lead her out of the restaurant and back into the night air of New York City.
He smirked whenever she did take his arm and sighed happily. Dinner was a success so phase one was complete.
“Soo, Gemma,” he beamed as he held the door that led back outside open for her, “Do you have enough teenage vigor to continue with our evening?” he said with a playfully. Of course he was just kidding…at least he hoped he was. God, please don’t let her already be tired after their long week!

>> "Jorge, we have been dating for almost two years…You know you don't have to charm me like that."
The detective laughed a little as he kept his eyes on the menu in front of him. Maybe at times it seemed like he was laying it on pretty thick, but in truth he was really just speaking his mind. He guessed that being raised primarily on books and classic movies made him a bit more of a romantic than most men would have liked to admitted being. But Jorge did not mind it in the least. He really liked having this side of him; it just helped to create the mosaic that was Jorge Cervantes.
In response though, he could only chuckle a little as he eyed her over the menu that he held in front of him.
“Oh I know,” he beamed as he pretended to casually look down at the menu again, continue in a rather professional manner that matched Gemma’s own tone, “but its more that I ‘want’ to charm you, rather than ‘have’ to,” he said with a wink.
It was true. Jorge was definitely enamored with this woman and honestly could not imagine his life without her. Though he didn’t charm her in order to keep her with him, instead he did it because that was honestly how he felt. He liked thinking nice thoughts about her, he liked sharing his time with her, all that only added up to strength his want to actually propose. But it was not going to be here, at this restaurant. He had something else in mind, something that he hoped would help her to say yes…
But, shaking those thoughts away in order to not appear too distracted, he finally decided what he was going to have, set down his menu and smiled over at Gemma, stealing glances at this gorgeous woman. It would be a good dinner with good conversation to follow; at least he hoped.

>> “D…daddy wasn’t bad to other kids. Daddy liked other kids and he played with them and mommy did too. I…I..”
The detective frowned. It was obvious that he was not trained enough to make the boy see differently than what he already thought about the situation. He was a boy who was trained to believe that he was the one who did wrong. Even though that could not be farther from the truth, there was nothing that Jorge could say that would help him. The damage was there and Jorge simply did not have the skills or training to help the boy move past it.
It was a sad occurrence, but, unfortunately, that is just what it was. Eventually the boy would get elp, Jorge knew that. He was already at a place that was most qualified to help him and he would be able to learn to control his mutation. It was only a matter of finding those people that could care enough for him to get him out of his shell.
>> “Daddy held…daddy held the neighbor’s little girl really well…and she didn’t cry or nothing. She was pretty…and…and had cute blonde hair. I…I didn’t mean to make daddy not love me…but I did..a-and…and it wasn’t good.”
Jorge looked in confusion as he tried to think about what Michael was saying. The kid had a round about way of explaining things so sometimes it required a thought or two for Jorge to make the connections. So, the father was nice to a new baby, a neighbor’s baby, and somehow that struck Michael as evidence of something; maybe that his father was not a bad man? After all, this whole conversation thus far had been about how his father was not bad, but Michael himself who caused the problems.
In a way he guessed that it made sense, in a child’s eyes. If he was nice to other kids, showed them affection and such, then obviously it must have been Michael who was at fault. Jorge did not believe that for a second. A truly kind man would never have given the bruises to Michael that the boy now held on his person.
The detective truly felt his heart breaking and wished that he could do more to change Michael’s mind. But so far none of his efforts were effective. But he could not lose faith. Who knows, maybe something would come up during their game that would help Michael at least see a glimmer of truth.
He was beginning to get a sneaking suspicion that Michael’s father not only abused him because he was just an abuser, but also because Michael happened to be a mutant (why else would Michael be here?).
The badge was shakily handed out to him and, gently, Jorge took it from the boy’s hand. He smiled in a friendly and thankful way to Michael as he took his badge back and wracked his brain to phrase the next question. It was obvious that the boy was a mutant...but did that play a factor in what happened to him?
He sighed as he slowed moved into his question.
"Michael," he started. "Did...most of this start...after you found out you were different? Like...after you developed an ability or power that you didn't have before?"

Jorge hid his smirk as both he and Gemma were led away by the host. It was definitely a little funny, caught in an awkward kiss by the waiter until the man actually felt uncomfortable enough to clear his throat in a most obvious manner. But the detective simply could not help himself. It seemed like eons since his last real day with Gemma. Despite that, though, there was indeed a time and place for such things and it was probably a little rude to be making out in the front of the restaurant.
So, he would contain such actions until an appropriate setting. Hand on the small of Gemma’s back, she shared another chuckle with her until they were led to their table. Once seated, he smirked as he started to life, still thinking about that kiss.
Apparently the humor was not lost on Gemma either…
>> "I think I spend too much time with teenagers. It's rubbing off on me…That, or I'm just finally being a teenager. Took we a long time to start growing up..."
He shook his head as he laughed, watching her face through the flickering candle lights that separated the two of them.
“Hey, there’s nothing wrong with recapturing youth,” he smiled as he turned his eyes back to his own menu. “It’s actually pretty fun. I'm only glad I get to share it with you.”
The detective smiled happily, face illuminated by the glow of candle light. All it showed was honesty and truth in his words.
He definitely knew what it was like to grow up too fast. His youth died when he was 15 years old and since then he spent his time focused on either controlling his powers or preparing for his career of wanting to help people. But, this feeling he had whenever he was around Gemma…it was pretty addicting. To capture some of that boldness that teenagers always seemed to display, it made for truly fun experiences.
Needless to say, Jorge enjoyed the fact that he could share such experiences with Gemma and hoped that they would continue after this night…

Jorge sighed as he sat back against the bench, carefully holding onto the basket so that it did not tumble away and ruin all the nice cookies on the ground. Andrea had certainly made an excellent batch; it was unfortunate, though, that their meeting had taken such a turn. It was not fair of him to have stirred up those memories for Andrea, but at the same time, how could it have been prevented? He was attached to probably one of the most traumatic experiences in her life! Just looking at him probably brought back those memories.
Still, he hoped that she would manage to work her way through it. It was a tragic thing, assuredly, but he had faith that they indeed would catch the Lion Man. Then, hopefully, he could give Andrea some peace of mind…
Then the events that followed were a blur. Some man had walked up, commented on the sad faces apparently attempted to cheer Andrea up with a free pass to some place that Jorge had never heard of. He made it sound like some magical place where all her worries would be buried under a pile of loud noises, fun, and games. Maybe such a place was good enough for a kid, but Jorge doubted that such a thing would have worked on the young Greek.
Unfortunately, as Andrea began to question the validity of it, the cheerful man looked aghast and attempted to prove her wrong! Another pass found its way into creation and was presented to Jorge himself. The detective arched a brow as, carefully, he took the pass in hand and tilted his head up at the man. Was he on something? Maybe just a little manic?
The detective glanced at the ticket in his hand and looked up to see the man back-flipping away. Maybe he would call this in, just in case.
>> "Americans sure do have a funny way of advertising their products... I do not know of this place... would you like my ticket as well? Maybe you can bring your lady friend with you?"
Jorge blinked as he returned his gaze to Andrea. He smirked a little and shook his head. As funny as the thought was of Gemma inside a place like this Adventure Works, he doubted it was exactly her cup of tea. Probably not really even Chase’s since the boy rather loved his comic books and just hanging out at home.
He offered his ticket to Andrea.
“No, thank you, friend,” he smiled. “Maybe you should hold onto it, and mine too. Maybe you have friends, or a boyfriend who will take you there?” She was a pretty girl. Honestly, it was not out of the realm of possibility that she found a mutant boyfriend who could love her for who she was. Hey, Adventure Works sounded like just the place for a date…

Jorge
The yellow ninja laughed and scoffed as fire hovered around his hands before it began to erupt all around Jorge’s feet. The detective felt the miniscule flames licking around his leather shoes and practically melting the soles of his feet into the very bridge; apparently this man had far more powers than he was initially letting on. Jorge leapt backwards, wincing and gasping as he tried to snuff out the fires on his shoes. When he did finally manage to stomp them out he looked up just in time to see Scorpion lunging at him with a yellowed, diabolical looking short sword.
Jorge was quick to pull the hammer from his belt and, just in time, managed to swing it hard enough to deflect the sword. Scorpion took this as the obviously opening from a weapon-to-weapon fight. Jorge grumbled but had to go through with it.
Sword met hammer, sparks flew, but neither one of the combatants stopped to catch their breath. Jorge was not trained in weapon fighting so the most he could do was keep swinging and blocking, taking whatever punches or kicks that happened to follow through. It was getting so brutal that breathing was soon proving to be a little difficult. He gasped as he felt a knee drive into his stomach, but at least he managed to keep that sword of his from splitting his head open.
Another punch and Jorge stumbled…a bit farther than he wanted to. Hammer skidding across the bridge, Jorge gasped as he felt the pull of gravity bring him over the edge. A normal man would have fallen to his death but the detective managed to grip onto the bone-like spines that jutted off to the sides. He groaned and gripped them as tight as he could, wincing as he tried to ignore the pain and pull himself up.
However, the sounds of footsteps drew his attention upwards. He looked over to see Scorpion, casually walking forward, sword still in hand as he tilted his head to peer at the detective with dead eyes.
Jorge grimaced as he struggled to hold onto the spines. His grip was loosening and the pain in his ribs was killing him. But he was not giving Game Lord the luxury of watching him give up…
“Done already?” the ninja scowled. He then pointed the blade directly at the detective’s hands. “Ending you will bring me one step closer to my revenge!”
Sword raised, murderous intent in his eyes, Jorge took a breath…and focused….

Jorge
Hmm…she didn’t retort in any way concerning the superhero costume. Maybe he was going to have to sneak into her closet and double check if she has any hidden alter-egos that he needed to know about. After all, shouldn’t he have at least a small right to know that? She knows about him being an X-Man so it was only proper that he know if she were running along the rooftops fighting crime.
The whole thought of ludicrous but it was still funny to imagine. He would have to make sure about teasing her for her lack of response later.
He offered his arm and, graciously, she took it and allowed him to lead her into the restaurant. The interior was actually quite homey. It looked like old, but not in any way pretentious. The best part, despite the deep red walls and the crisp linen and the cheerful looking staff…was the smell of the food that wafted out from the kitchen. Already he wanted to salivate; he had not eaten anything since his lunch which was far earlier than he would have liked.
>> "This is already worth it…I can't tell you how long I have been waiting for a night out..."
He grinned, like a fool and nodded with a tired smile, “Trust me, I think we both have been waiting for this for a while.” He sighed as he pressed his forehead against her own and kissed her softly.
Ahem
Jorge blinked and looked up to see the host smiling warmly at the two of them. The young man, dressed in a white shirt, black vest, tie, and black slacks, gave them a quick nod. His smile was genuine as he peered inquiringly between the two.
“Ah, I’m sorry,” Jorge chuckled. “Cervantes, for two.”
That…was not awkward at all.
The host grinned as he scratched the reservation off of his list and grabbed a pair of menus. “Welcome to Bouley’s! Let me show you to your seats. I hope you will have an enjoyable time.”
