The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Lee laughed when she heard Tarin’s question about Matt. ”Nah, I’ve seen that look from him before,” she said jokingly. Mostly. ”This was different.”
Tarin’s day, however, sounded, well, it sounded rather typical. Though, secondhand embarrassment could sometimes provide interesting stories. Sometimes, unfortunately not always.
’You’ve been impatient?” Lee asked innocently as she looked up at Tarin. ”Why, is there something that you've been waiting for?”
And much too soon for her liking, Tarin let her go, asking if she was ready. No, she wasn't’. Lee wanted to spend much more time in his arms. But she had also been the one who had wanted to have a normal night, a nice, simple, good dinner date with just the two of them. And the longer that they stood in the shop, the less likely that was to happen.
”Yeah, I’m ready,” she said as she smiled up at Tarin. They did have the entire night after dinner still.

Lee simply shrugged a shoulder slightly when Tarin commented about her being devastated. Watching a session, she could definitely do without seeing that. Most of the time in her experience, if the session wasn’t boring or searching for some sort of family treasure…Well, if it wasn’t one of those, it then was generally not a good session for very different reasons.
After he’d turned the light in the back off, Tarin made his way back to her. But rather than heading to the door, his arm wrapped around Lee’s waist and she smiled up at him. ”Well, Matt’s stopped looking at me in complete shock,” she told Tarin. Though, to be honest Matt had taken everything so much better than Rachel and Robert had in many ways. Yes, he had been very surprised, but Matt had also known even less of what she was actually capable of than her siblings had.
”I also finally managed to get an appointment scheduled, so overall, it was a pretty good day.”

When Lee walked into the shop, she was relieved to see that Tarin was alone in the shop and was tidying up for the night. And Tarin immediately came over to give her a quick kiss.
Returning the kiss, Lee smiled up at Tarin. ”Thank you,” she replied. ”Oh, you mean I don’t get to just sit here and watch you work for a few minutes?”
That was a shame. Maybe Lee needed to get Tarin to the gym with her to work out again. Or find some work for him to do around the apartment…
But it did mean they could get to dinner that much sooner.
”So I’m guessing your afternoon went well?” Lee asked as she waited for Tarin to grab anything else he needed before they left.

The weekend had definitely not been as nice or as relaxing as Lee had hoped it would be. Between the talk with Robert on Friday, how heavy the conversation at the bar on Saturday with Rachel and Matt had gotten, and then her sparring match with Tony on Sunday which had left Lee not entirely sure how things stood with her siblings and with a broken hand and rib.
The breaks weren’t bad, just hairline fractures according to DocProf, who had then healed her up. But Lee hadn’t realized that she had been hurt as bad as she had been.
Overall, not a great weekend.
Then she had to rehash a lot of it on Monday because she had told Matt she would explain. So by the time Lee and Tarin were home Monday night, Lee was wanting normal.
Normal (for her now) like watching baseball together on the couch Monday night.
Normal like going for a quiet, simple dinner date on Wednesday.
To be honest, Lee couldn't think of anywhere that could be described as a simple, normal dinner date restaurant better than the Chinese restaurant. And, despite the fact that they ate from there just about every Friday night, Tarin hadn't gone to eat there yet.
Since the restaurant was closer to the shop than it was to the apartment, they had arranged for Lee to meet Tarin there. And so Lee arrived at the shop wearing a black dress with white dotted lines, hoping that his last session wasn’t running late.

According to Tarin’s words, either way was ‘fine’. But she had seen him on the way down the elevator just a short time ago as well as the night before when she had needed to distract him to help keep him calm. He was clearly not fine in the elevator.
As she was stepping past Tarin, her bag still where she had set it, Lee heard him say that he was intending to fuss all night. ”Good,” she said softly, a small smile on her face as she made her way back to DocProf’s office.
It didn’t take long to ask the single question, and a minute later Lee was returning. ”Alright, let’s go,” she said as she went to grab her bag so she could lead the way to the stairs.

Tarin agreed that they should head home. Lee just sat there beside him for another moment before she slid off the bed and was about to grab her bag when she had a thought.
Turning to look at Tarin. ”I can go ask where the stairs are,” she offered. Because she really didn’t have an issue if they had to take the stairs, she just hadn’t been able to, and still couldn’t remember where those stairs were.
”Then when we get home, you can start fussing and making sure I’m doing everything I need to.”

Tarin had seen, had thought, that people were in and it turned out they weren't. Lee tightened her arms around Tarin's. She knew exactly why those people had been hurt, and even that bit of thinking about that, it made Lee angry.
Before he'd shared that, Lee had been thinking that she should take Tarin's opinions on whether she should be looked at by a doctor or not.
But Tarin was asking if she felt ok, and Lee nodded. ”I really am,” she told him with a small smile. ”I just want to get home with you. And I probably should ice a couple of these spots soon.”

Tarin moved closer easily when she pulled on his arm, and when he sat beside her, she leaned her head against his shoulder.
She really did hate what had happened. Well, the hand hasn't been so bad, really not much different from when Tarin had taken a look at it. And when DocProf had healed her rib was alright, though Lee did wish more of the pain from the bruise had left. But the actual poking…
”It was worse than I thought it was, than it felt like it was…” she said as she wrapped both of her arms around his that she was leaning into. ”I know I've teased you about the fussing, but…thank you.”
They had to plan better for the next time? Lee straightened up a bit so she could look up at Tarin. ”I’m not planning on any more punches like that.”

Tarin confirmed that if there was anything else worrying, that they would be back. DocProf nodded to Tarin. ”I’m glad she has you looking out for her, Mr Brooks,” DocProf said before turning back to Lee. ”I will be in my office if you need anything before you leave, Ms Smith.”
With that, the man stepped away from the bed and walked to the back of the infirmary where his office was tucked away.
After he'd gone about ten feet, Lee looked over at Tarin before reaching for him to gently pull him closer to her.
Lee's eyes dropped to her hand on Tarin's arm, the one that had been hurt. Her injuries hadn't been major, but they had been worse than she'd thought. ” Thank you,” she said softly, only looking up at his face once the words were out of her mouth.

DocProf finished his examination of her ribs, but that had been the only place that there was pain. And the whole time Lee continued to state at the ceiling. Even when DocProf gently placed his hand over that rub and Lee felt the warmth as his healing worked.
Only as he took his hand away, it felt just marginally better, not like every other time he had healed her and the pain was gone. Lee frowned, finally moving her eyes as she looked at DocProf in confusion.
”It’s mostly just bruised,” he said in explanation as he stepped back to give Lee room to sit up. Which she did immediately. ”There was the slightest bit of a hairline fracture, small enough that it likely wouldn't have been seen on X-ray. That is healed, but the bruising is going to continue to hurt.”
Lee nodded. Soreness was fine, she had expected to be sore for a few days at least already, even before she had sparred. But the fact that she'd technically had a broken hand and rib…Lee didn't think Tarin was going to let her forget that any time soon.
And as she looked over at him she realized he was looking none too happy, standing there with his arms folded in front of him.
”I honestly think that is all, doc,” Lee said as she looked over at the older man.
DocProf looked at Lee for a couple moments before he spoke. ”If there is anything that makes you start worrying.” He then shook his head before correcting himself. ”Causes either of you to worry, you come back, alright Ms Smith?”

Laying down on the hospital bed Lee stared up at the ceiling as DocProf started his poking and prodding. They'd talked about this, how she'd been forced to see doctor after doctor when she was young. How she'd been poked and prodded, stabbed countless times with needles to take blood and have IVs. She'd been tested for who knows how many illnesses and conditions.
They'd talked about this just on the drive to the mansion and how she didn't like doctors.
But Lee had told Tarin that he could fuss, a bit, which is all he'd done, and that she was doing better, trying to do better with getting help. So Lee just lay there focusing on her slow, steady breathing as she felt DocProf’s fingers touching and pushing each rib.
Until one of those pokes hurt, and Lee inhaled sharply before she could even think about stopping it.
”It hurts there?”
Lee nodded without looking at him. ”Yeah, it does,’ she admitted.

Lee's head was down, so she didn't see the smile growing on Tarin's face as DocProf spoke. She could, however, hear that same smile in his voice.
Then, after she said she thought she was just bruised, Tarin started his fussing. Asking specifically about her ribs and her sternum, because of how hard she had hit.
Before she was able to say anything, DocProf was questioning her. ”You were hit in the chest during this sparring match, Ms Smith?” he asked.
”No, I wasn’t. I fell, hard, and had my breath knocked out of me,” Lee corrected.
”Well, let's see if anything happened when you fell. Lay back.”
Lee shot Tarin a look, not that she was upset, but more of a ‘look what you did’. But she laid back on the hospital bed for the doc to check her.

Well, Lee thought as DocProf frowned to Tarin, she'd gotten off fairly easily in terms of lectures. Just short admonitions about being careful not to hurt herself with her powers and the very frequent stop stressing.
And he was now asking Tarin about injuries, and Lee couldn't help but smile slightly. At least Tarin looked like he would be able to give Lee a serious challenge based on her size and apparent strength. The other bonus would have been if he decided to spar without a shirt. Now that would definitely level the playing field between them…
Just as the mere thought of it had distracted Lee enough that she didn't hear Tarin's answer until she saw him looking at her. Then all that she heard was ”She’s really good.”
And with that being the only thing she heard him say, that blush did start crossing her cheeks as she looked down at her hand again.
”With the…determination I've seen when Ms Smith has set her mind to something, that doesn't surprise me,” DocProf said, and Lee thought she could see him glancing between her and Tarin, but it was hard to know for sure with her eyes lowered.
”Is anything else hurting now that pain from your hand is gone?”
Lee took stock, moving a few joints around experimentally before shaking her head. ”I think it just feels like some soreness that will come up as bruises,” she replied as she looked up.

DocProf probably understood that comment about young mutants better than most people in the world due to where he was and his powers and training.
”He will be here,” Lee confirmed with a nod. ”Even I have to admit that I can only keep him safe and sheltered for so long. But Kevin's definitely excited to be here.”
DocProf shook his head slightly. ”You know the boy will be fine here and well cared for. But like I've told you many times, Ms Smith, all this worrying and stressing you do is not healthy for you.”
DocProf then turned to look at Tarin. ”And you, Mr Brooks. How are you after all this sparring business?”

Once DocProf pulled his hands away, Lee flexed hers, forming a fist and moving the fingers. It wasn’t as easy as it normally was, there was still a bit of swelling that the healer’s powers weren’t able to get rid of, just as she knew she’d still have the bruises, but other than that slight swelling, her hand felt perfectly fine now.
Looking up at DocProf, Lee gave him a smile. ”Thank you, it feels much better,” she told him.
”And no more of this ‘making a point’ with your body,” DocProf said. ”Flesh and bone can only take so much force, and we know that you can clearly generate far more than that.”
”I know, I won't,” Lee replied, sounding somewhat like she was being told off. ”If something like this ever happens again, it won't be because I was sparring or proving a point.”
DocProf hmm’ed, clearly not happy with the answer. But the man had both worked with the X-Men for long enough and knew how stubborn Lee could be, so knew that was probably the best he was going to get.
”And where was young Kevin during all this? I am surprised I haven't seen you two, or at least gotten worried calls at all hours over the years.”
Lee actually looked a little sheepish there as he spoke. She definitely remembered a number of middle of the night visits, and even more phone calls asking if they should come in while she was pregnant and Kevin was an infant.
”He’s not so little anymore, doc,” Lee told him. ”Kevin’s already a teen. He's in Texas with his father's family right now. But we spent a number of years in Toronto, when he was learning to walk and all those injury prone years. I'm sure you'll be seeing plenty of him soon when he convinces people to throw things at him to test his powers.”
