Lee shook her head and laughed a bit more as Tarin commented on the evil nature of the assumed plan from her son. "Two against one isn't exactly fair, you know," Lee pointed out despite her laughter.
As Lee sat there finishing her food, she couldn't help but think that people who lived perfectly normal lives probably didn't say things like 'perfectly normal' multiple times in one sentence. But the fact was that tonight really had been perfectly normal. For them.
It was nice to know that they were actually able to go out, and that they could go have a nice, normal date. That things weren't going to go weird or wrong inherently because of who they were.
"It is not," Lee agreed with a smile across the table. "Means that as long as there's something on the menu we haven't tried, we have reason to come back here, doesn't it?"

Lee laughed when Tarin said he'd have to ask Kevin for pointers about making snowballs. "I'm sure he'd be happy to," Lee told Tarin before shaking her head slightly. "He'll likely try convincing you to gang up on me."
Tarin was quick to say that they didn't have to dance when she seemed hesitant. Lee glanced back at the dance floor briefly before turning to Tarin again. "It's 'perfectly normal', you say?" Lee asked, her tone clearly not very serious. "If that's the case, maybe we can give it a try."
Though, Lee thought as she looked across the table as they continued to eat, they may have to be careful if they were to dance. Careful not to forget where they were. Because dancing like that would put them quite close to each other, and Tarin did look damn good in that suit.
And apparently the salmon was extremely good, Tarin saying that she needed to get it the next time they came. Lee nodded. "I have a feeling we'll be saying that about everything we eat here. Because this was extremely good, too."

Lee was a little apprehensive when Tarin brought up his first winter in New York. He was actually smiling, though, and as he continued speaking Lee smiled as well.
"It's not silly," Lee disagreed with Tarin. "I grew up with snow every winter, but it can still be magical. Light and fluffy is prettier, but Kevin prefers when it crunches underfoot because then he can make better snowballs." Lee shook her head slightly, though she had always enjoyed going to the park with Kevin for snowball fights.
And Tarin was right, other than the bit of uncomfortableness because of the adapted shutting her siphoning off, it had been a perfectly normal dinner, which caused Lee to smile wider.
Though the smile faltered slightly when he mentioned dancing. Her eyes glanced over to the dance floor. At least it looked like it was slower paced dancing, not like at the bar. "I'm not great dancing," Lee said, turning back to Tarin. "But we can give it a try."

Lee smiled when Tarin made the comment about being up here to see the city in the snow. ”To see it white, and clean, possibly sparkling if there’s sun,” Lee said softly. ”Before it all turns to grey slush on the ground. I can only imagine it would be gorgeous.”
Other than in the Park, and even that was pushing it at times, Lee hadn’t seen fresh, crisp snow in years. It didn’t really exist on the streets of New York.
Lee was a little confused for a moment when Tarin started talking about with losing his coat. But only for a moment; then she remembered the brawl in the park that Tarin had mentioned. When he had first met Michael. In a form that if Lee had seen Michael in, she might have realized she’d known of him for years much sooner.
Before everything had happened and she became involved in Tarin’s life.
”Hopefully, we don’t have any more weird days for a while,” Lee replied. That certainly would be nice. ”I’m pretty sure that my tolerance for ‘weird’ and ‘adventure’ has drastically declined.”

At least try brunch out here? Lee was thinking they needed to do it at least a few times because there was likely going to be multiple things that Lee would want to try. And the good thing with how she just worked when she wanted and Tarin’s appointments never started very early was that they would be able to come here during the work week, avoiding the weekend rush that Lee was sure they would have.
They continued eating in comfortable silence until Tarin looked up at the sky. ”Oh, that is a good point,” Lee agreed. That was something they were going to need to find out. Though real estate in New York was expensive enough that, even for a rooftop, Lee couldn’t imagine the restaurant could afford to close for the winter.
”Maybe there’s a roof of some sort they’re able to put up,” Lee guessed. ”And I haven’t been to any here, but I know that there are bars in Toronto that use heaters on their patios in the winter.”

Hours? It took hours of him touching someone in order for his powers to affect someone's senses?
Oh! The effect could last hours. That made more sense, Lee thought. "Sorry, no, I meant how long do you have to touch someone to do something to their senses?" Lee clarified. That was the important part to Lee. As long as it didn't take too long to subdue the senses, even if the effect had only lasted a few minutes, that would still be extremely helpful for Will if a situation ever went horribly bad. It would give him a better chance to get away since his powers didn't seem inclined to help with dangerous situations.
Was it bad that figuring out self defence methods was the first place Lee's mind went? Possibly, Lee thought. But it definitely showed how her life had seemed to frequently go.
The look that Will gave her at the mention of practicing was very familiar to Lee, and she just looked steadily back. She had a teenage son who wasn't often happy about being reminded to do homework. Or to practice drills or work the heavy bag at the gym rather than what he considered to be more 'fun'.
"Believe me, Will, I understand that feeling," Lee told him gently. "Old habits die hard and it becomes second nature to conceal parts of yourself. But even if you only have one or two friends who already know, or that you'd trust to tell, it's a start. And a little bit of practice is far better than none at all."

Lee was chewing another bite of roast when Tarin mentioned that this restaurant also served brunch. Lee just stopped moving for a couple of seconds and stared at Tarin before finishing the food in her mouth.
”If their brunch menu is anywhere near this good, they are definitely going to get sick of us,” she said matter of factly. It was an even better thing that Kevin’s powers seemed to simply drain batteries and didn’t fry his cell phone because it sounded like their food costs were going to go up because of this place.
Not that Lee minded. If it meant getting to see Tarin dress like this on a regular basis and have food that tasted this good, she’d figure out how to make it work. Even if it meant she ended up paying more often than not.
”This will have to be at least a somewhat regular date.”

Lee rolled her eyes slightly. ”I don’t remember much about any of Robert’s dates between being tired and stuck in my room, but it would not surprise me at all if the ‘advice’ he gave Kevin was something stupid,” Lee said with a shake of her head. He’d probably said something ridiculous like ‘play hard to get’ or something that was already bad advice, but even worse when you’re already hanging out regularly as friends.
Their food came out, and both plates looked absolutely delicious. ”Only one way to find out,” Lee replied with a smile as she went to cut a piece of the roast. And the meat practically cut like butter under her knife.
That was definitely promising, Lee thought. She then brought the food to her mouth. And nodded as she chewed. She had definitely made the right choice, Lee thought. They hadn’t frequented many restaurants in New York that even offered pot roast, so not only had it been a long time since she’d had it, but this was extremely good.
”Yeah, we definitely need to come back here,” Lee declared once she had swallowed.

”He’s really intuitive, Lee.”
Apparently so, Lee thought as she listened to Tarin. Kevin had had his powers for just a matter of weeks, and he’d already figured out that he struggled more with them when he’s upset?
”Again, when did he grow up so much?” Lee asked with a smile and shake of her head. ”I was an adult before I figured that out about mine. But if he said thanks, I’d guess that it made sense or helped him at least a bit.”
Tarin went on to ask if anyone else had mentioned anything about the girl Kevin liked and had called Tarin for advice about. Lee shook her head. ”My guess with asking you was Kevin was trying to avoid any kind of big deal being made, so he didn’t talk to them about it. But if it’s the girl I think it is, they’ve been friends for a few years now, so them hanging out more, especially if his younger cousins were bugging him, wouldn’t be that surprising.”

Lee smiled when Tarin said he thought that the night Kevin had come home from Texas had been the most he had spoken. ”You two really talked that much?” Lee asked. This proved even more than she had already thought that there were going to be things that Kevin would prefer to speak about with someone other than his mum. And while Kevin did talk with Rachel, Robert, Josh, and Adele about various things, especially now there were going to be things that they would have no clue about. Or worse, and Lee particularly worried about this from her brother, would give him bad advice because none of them had a clue about being a mutant.
So Lee was happy that Kevin felt comfortable enough to talk with Tarin, even if Tarin felt wholly unqualified.
That still wasn’t all that the two of them had talked about that night. Kevin had been concerned about using his powers on the plane. Lee nodded. ”All I seem to be thinking these days is when did he grow up so much?” Lee asked. ”I doubt anything would have happened to the plane, but I’ll talk to him about that more, too. Thanks Tarin.”

Lee listened carefully as Tarin explained what had been discussed the night Kevin had come home from Texas after she had gone out for her run. The questions that Kevin had asked about her powers. After realizing that it was all a lot harder than he expected it to be.
Had she made things appear too simple all these years? Hiding all of the effort it took to manage her energy. Though, Lee had always hidden that as best she could, even when she had been struggling to figure out how to manage it. Tarin was one of the few people, over the course of her entire life, who she’d shared how difficult it could be for her.
No, Lee decided, it hadn’t been a mistake to hide it from Kevin like she did from everyone. Yes, Lee still had to worry about all the same things in terms of her energy now as she had when she first realized she had to, but it was practically second nature for her now. Powers got easier to deal with as you learned about them, as you got older. And hers were despite the fact that she still had to do all the same things.
”No, you didn’t overstep,” Lee told Tarin, returning the hand squeeze. ”I’ll see if he wants help with his powers in the next day or so. Maybe that’ll help, and maybe he’ll start asking me some of those questions then.”

Power Growth or Mini Power Growth: Power Growth. Still eligible for a mini-power growth.
Growth summary: Lee’s body becomes more capable of dealing with the physical stresses that her enhanced speed and strength can produce.
At the moment, while Lee is able to produce great strength and speed depending on the amount of energy she has, her body is no more durable or resilient than a human’s. This means that she can be quite susceptible to injury such as broken bones when using too much strength or speed.
This power growth would allow Lee’s body to become more durable/resilient according to her energy level in the same way that her speed and strength increase with excess energy
Time frame and lead up summary: Lee has recently had a few injuries while sparring that she would not have otherwise had if she had simply been moving with a 'normal' speed or strength, including most recently multiple hairline fractures. If this power growth is approved, I would like that incident to have set in motion the power growth. However, Lee will not discover that she has had the power growth for a while as it has proven her previously existing thoughts that she needs to be careful with how much speed or strength she uses.
I would like Lee to become aware of the power growth through a 'real life' issue she has to deal with (e.g. not while sparring or training), preferably as part of an upcoming site-wide plot if one were to happen soon. However, not yet knowing what that is, I cannot plan details. And if not a site-wide plot, I'm sure that some trouble will be able to find Lee.
Growth description: Enhanced Durability
As Lee's energy level increases and that allows her to move with greater speed and strength, Lee's body also increases in durability to be able to withstand the physical stresses that the increased speed and strength place on her body. For example, while running at an increased speed, the force and stress of a sudden stop will not break bones or damage soft tissue in Lee's legs.
Strengths: Lee doesn't have to worry about injuring herself simply because she uses her increased speed or strength. Lee's body does not become more vulnerable than the average human when her energy level is very low.
Weaknesses: This is not an overall increase in durability. Lee's body only increases in durability in relation to her energy level in relation to her increase in speed and strength. It also only makes her body more resilient in terms of things to do with her increased speed and strength. For example, hitting something with more than human strength won't break her hand (foot, etc), but a blade will still cut her no matter how much energy she has.

Make it a ‘thing’ every now and then to go somewhere that was actually quiet? Yes, their apartment was generally on the quiet side, it just felt different when it was somewhere other than at home. ”I think that is a great plan,” Lee said. ”Movies, restaurants, jogging… They’re all great, but not really quiet.”
Did Tarin wince when she asked about the sparring?
Once Tarin started speaking, Lee realized why. Apparently they had talked quite a bit more than Lee had expected after she had left for her run, and somehow the topic had become about her powers.
”Well, so far he’s only asked about watching me spar,” Lee informed Tarin. ”What kind of questions was he asking? Anything I’ll need to brace myself for or figure out a child-friendly answer for ahead of time?”
Kevin had always been extremely curious about mutant powers, though Lee realized he’d never asked all that much about her own powers. Though he had been the one to remind Rachel fairly often in the first year or so they were back in New York about things like her ‘zombie’ state as he called it in the mornings.

Lee nodded and shrugged when she heard Tarin, but the playful smile turned into a full grin. ”He does seem to get around quite a bit, doesn’t he?” Lee asked as she looked across the table at Tarin.
”But you’re right, it does feel a lot quieter up here,” Lee continued. ”It really is nice. I wish there were more places around that were actually quiet.”
Lee picked up her beer with her free hand, not wanting to release Tarin’s yet, and took a sip.
”You know, Kevin’s been bugging me the last couple days about letting him watch me spar,” Lee said after a few moments of silence between them. ’Has he mentioned anything to you about something happening in Texas to suddenly make him so interested in that?”

She could just turn her siphoning off herself? That was not a very enticing idea knowing that there was a person in the area who would make her powers completely not function, and with having her siphoning turned off, she would have no idea.
But, she had also told herself not even a minute earlier that she didn’t have anything to worry about from that person. Not with Tarin there. Not with all of the cameras that had to be in the building. Surely it was safe for her to turn off her siphoning. Uncomfortable having people around but being unable to sense them, but not as bad here compared to the bar. And not as bad as being continually startled, slightly scared, by the suddenness of her siphoning shutting off.
Lee nodded. ”That’s probably a good idea,” she told him, then squeezed his hand. ”Thanks.”
Her siphoning had come back while Tarin was speaking so, as much as she disliked having her siphoning not work in public, Lee focused for a moment and shut it back off. Then squeezed Tarin’s hand slightly again. That was it, she wasn’t going to worry about it anymore. They were out for a date, what was so far a wonderful date that Tarin had planned, and she was going to enjoy it.
Lee smiled when she heard Tarin start speaking again. ”It really does, doesn’t it?” Lee responded as her smile turned more playful. ”I thought I was just distracted by this really sexy guy who seems to be out for dinner, and everything else was just faded away to focus on him…”
