The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Lee just stood there smiling slightly, leaning against Tarin. He understood what she meant about it being peaceful, she was sure. He had lived in one New York or another longer than she had, and with coming from the Texas countryside as he had, New York would have been a huge change all those years ago. In many ways.
Lee smiled wider when Tarin thanked her for showing him this as she turned to look up at him. "You're welcome," she said. "If I had thought about it, I would have brought you here much sooner."
Collecting views? That was certainly one way to think about it. But to that end…
"Did you want to stay here for a while, or keep going?"

Tarin was quiet as they approached the fountain. And as she brought them to a stop. But then he looked in the direction that she was looking.
And with that one look, Tarin realized exactly why she had brought him there.
Smiling as she felt Tarin release her hand and wrap his arm around her waist, Lee leaned against him slightly.
"It's not like this all night," Lee said softly as she gazed across the fountain toward the lit terrace. "They turn the lights off overnight. I guess to discourage people from being in the park? But when they are on, it's almost breathtaking."
Lee just stood there in silence with Tarin, her head on his shoulder. "If you can actually catch it when the lights are on and there's a mist or fog hanging over the fountain…" Lee whispered after a few moments. "It's hauntingly beautiful."
Tarin could understand why she liked to run out here? It was nice, but most of these sights she only managed to catch on her first lap, if at all. "It's peaceful," Lee replied. "That's the main reason. You don't find that in the city very often."

It wasn't a surprise that what Lee said about music was different from anything Tarin knew. Otherwise, he would have at least a basic idea of what broad genre of music he preferred. Yet, even though he listened to music every time he ran, and he tried to go for a run most days, he still just listened to playlists backed in the pace he was trying to set.
But it also helped him to understand? It sounded like he was simply talking about music, but it felt like he meant a whole lot more.
Lee wasn't sure what that 'more' was, though. Was it understanding about how there were different kinds of music? How music could produce different thoughts and emotions?
Understanding more about what she thought about music?
He had been to 'feral' as a child to really listen to much music, and them…yeah, that made sense. That explained not really listening to music as a child, but what about his entire adult life? That was what really confused Lee about the whole situation because music was literally everywhere in the world.
By this time, they were approaching the first thing Lee had thought she wanted to show Tarin: Bethesda Terrace.
The underneath part was lit up, illuminating the fountain from behind and reflecting in the water.
Stopping them a distance away, Lee just stood and took in the sight for a few moments in silence. "I always think that the bottom part of the terrace looks bigger at night," Lee said quietly after a few moments. "Like it just…keeps going.
"But the terrace, and the fountain were two of the things I wanted to show you. What do you think?"

Once she had finished speaking, Lee ducked her head slightly before looking forward again.
"No, I love it.”
Only for her eyes to shoot up to Tarin again. "You love it?" Lee asked, a little surprised by that. No one liked when she really got into talking about music; she 'took it too seriously', 'went too deep' and 'thought too much' about it.
But Tarin loved it? Lee really hoped he meant that, because saying that was giving her permission to talk about music a lot more.
Lee nodded when Tarin told her he'd liked what they were playing at the restaurant. "That was like what I listen to when I need to think," Lee told him. "Instrumental covers of mostly current songs, though there were a couple of older classics. So we have a starting place," Lee smiled up at Tarin. This was good. They had a starting place now to really start introducing Tarin to music and seeing what he liked.
He'd also said he hadn't ever connected with music, which to Lee was just strange. She couldn't imagine going through so much of your life without connecting to music in some way.
"I think I always have," Lee said after a few moments. "Connected with music. I was taking piano lessons as far back as I can remember. My parents said that they'd put me in lessons as soon as I was old enough because apparently the first couple years they had me in dance lessons, I was more interested in trying to make noise with the piano than dancing."

This was rather peaceful, Lee thought as they walked along the path further into the park. It was normally fairly peaceful when she came here for her nighttime runs, but simply walking, with Tarin, was something else entirely.
He wanted to know what she listened to as she ran? Lee straightened up so she could look up at Tarin again. "That depends on what I'm in the mood to listen to," Lee said with a bit of a shrug. "Sometimes I'll listen to one of my playlists; songs from when I was a kid, or some heavier, newer music. If I'm having trouble getting into the run, I have a playlist that has bouncier, faster songs. That one has a lot of pop punk songs on it.
"Rarely, if I have something I really need to think about," Lee continued thoughtfully. "I'll listen to instrumental music, soundtracks or just instrumental covers. The lack of words helps me focus."
Lee then looked up at Tarin again a little sheepishly. "That was probably more than you were asking, wasn't it?"

Lee nodded as she looked over and up at Tarin as they walked. "It really is," Lee said softly. And she was far more comfortable here, now that she had turned her siphoning back on and there were far fewer people than had been on the sidewalks between the restaurant and the park.
"Most of the time, there are just the occasional other runner or someone walking that I come across," Lee continued to describe what it was like when she came running. "Sometimes, I'll follow the smaller paths in the middle of the park, but that takes more thought so I don't just end up going in the same little circles. So most of the time I end up just taking the path around the edge of the park."
"And since there's so many fewer people around then," Lee continued as she stepped slightly closer to Tarin, resting her head on his shoulder as they walked. "I'm sometimes able to just zone out or get lost in my music, which definitely helps the time go faster."

Lee tried to savour her dessert, but it disappeared so much more quickly than she wanted it to. It really was extremely good.
Their waiter really did seem to be eager to get them out of there at this point as he returned quite quickly to see if there was anything else that they wanted. And as he went off to grab the cheque, Tarin asked if she was going to share some of the places with him or if it was a surprise.
Lee shrugged as she put the last bite of her cheesecake in her mouth. "It really depends on how far we want to walk," Lee said once she had finished eating. "But Bethesda Terrace is wonderful all lit up."
It really didn't take too long for them to finish up at the restaurant and get on their way. And as they entered Central Park hand in hand a short time later, Lee couldn't help but think how much different and how much nicer it was than when she normally came here at night.

Tarin seemed rather eager and excited to go on this walk. Lee hadn't really thought about purposely showing Tarin places in the park at night before, but the more excited that Tarin was getting about it, the more that Lee was wanting to show him. And Lee sat there for a moment while their desserts were set down in front of them thinking about which places she should show Tarin.
The cheesecake was now sitting in front of her, and Lee did not hesitate or wait for Tarin to try his first. Picking up her fork, Lee cut off the tip of the slice and put it in her mouth.
It wasn't the best cheesecake that Lee had had in her entire life, but it was by far the best that Lee had tasted in well over a decade.
And Tarin liked his pie as well. Though apparently he liked blueberry more. Lee smiled as her eyes dropped to her dessert. "This is really good, too."

Train simply shrugged when she had said that there had to be better pies. Especially since she had only successfully done it once. Though it was probably a good thing he hadn't said more; if he had, he probably would have gotten Lee to start blushing again.
And Tarin thought that walking in the park was a good idea. Lee's smile widened. "It'll probably be more crowded than I'm used to," Lee explained. "But it is dark enough that there will still be nice views. And definitely empty enough that I don't have to worry about how much energy I'm getting."

Lee had been surprised that the second blueberry pie she had made had turned out good. Very good. It had been good enough for even Kevin to comment on how it had tasted. Even Lee could admit that she had made a good pie.
But the fact that Tarin thought it would be hard for him to find a pie he liked better? That was a little more than Lee could believe. "I'm sure there are loads of better pies out there," she said softly.
After Tarin had ordered his peach pie and the waiter had left their tableside, Tarin asked if she had any ideas yet about what they could do. "Hmm," Lee said as she turned to loook out at the view again. It was fully dark now and while the cityscape laid out before them now looked very different from when they had first gotten to the restaurant, it was still an amazing view.
A smile spread across Lee's face as an idea came to her and she turned back to Tarin. "We could go for a walk in the park," she suggested. "I know we're there almost every day, but it really does look different at night, and I know a few places that are just gorgeous in the dark."

Lee smiled when Tarin answered her. It was so cute that he got so excited for pie. "I'm not sure about anytime," Lee told him. "But I can try making it for you again soon. So the peach is probably the better idea because then you won't have to lie when you tell me that my pie is better." Lee was somewhat? Mostly? Joking about that.
Tarin turned the question around, but before Lee was able to reply, the waiter had returned and was asking for their dessert order.
"I'll have the cheesecake please," Lee said before turning to look at Tarin. Lee could only hope that the cheesecake, especially since the menu had proudly claimed it to be New York style was as good as the other food had been.

Lee smiled as Tarin said he wasn't in a rush to get home that night either. That meant that they just needed to figure out what they were going to do with the time before they finally went back.
Picking up the dessert menu that was sitting in front of her, Lee looked it over. Though Lee wasn't entirely sure what specifically about the dessert menu had Tarin thinking that this restaurant had gotten even better, Lee had to agree. They had cheesecake as well as a couple other things that looked rather tempting.
"I'm not sure how, but it does," Lee said as she set her menu down. She already knew what she was going to order. This was definitely a very good decision for Tarin to choose this restaurant for their date. "What are you thinking?" Lee asked, glancing at the menu Tarin was still holding.

Even though Will was a grown adult, Lee could see aspects of the expression she was becoming used to seeing on her son's face; the look that Kevin got when he knew what Lee was saying made sense, but he didn't want to admit that she was right because that meant he was wrong and he didn't know as much as he thought he did.
At least with the extra decade, Lee guessed, Will had the wisdom and ability to actually admit it out loud, something that Kevin almost never did yet.
"I can guarantee there are people who would find it useful," Lee said gently. "I know at least a few people who would likely find something like what you can do useful and be appreciative of it. But, while I think practising with your abilities would be good for you to do, you don't need to do it with anyone, or at any time, that you don't want to." She was the last one who would push people to work with the X-Men. While there were times and situations where it was necessary, and even she had worked with them, had even asked for their particular kind of help at times, even after two decades, Lee still did not agree with the way the X-Men functioned on a day to day basis.
"Don't worry, Will, I understand about the paranoia and conditioning about your powers sticking around long after they need to," Lee replied. "I was only stuck in the Registration Camp for a month, but I still flinched away anytime someone touched me for 6 months after getting out. Longer if I hadn't expected to be touched. And there are things I hadn't talked about in 15 years with anyone because like you said 'once it's out there'...But sometimes even that can be a good thing."

As the next song started, Lee moved her hand back down onto Tarin's shoulder as they started to dance again. And this time they were pretty quiet, but it was still nice. Which would have been surprising to Lee if the last two songs hadn't actually been nice too.
But as the song ended, and with the hand that he was still holding, Tarin led her back to the table. And she smiled up at Tarin as she heard his admission. "Well, it has been a pretty good plan," Lee told him with a smile. "Even the dancing was not all that bad.
"Maybe," Lee continued, her voice a little more playful. "You might be able to convince me to dance again next time we're here." Not that the chances of that were actually as long as Lee was making it sound. All Tarin would have to do the next time they were here would be to ask her to dance. And hopefully there wouldn't be an adapted around, so Lee would be able to siphon and feel that much more comfortable.
Was there anything else that she wanted to do that night. Lee shrugged slightly as she sat down once more. "Some dessert might be nice," Lee mused as she looked across the table at Tarin. "Can't really think of anything else, though at the same time, I'm not eager to rush home."

At least the blush had been mostly gone by the time Lee had looked back up at Tarin. Though with the way he was looking at her, even if it was a more serious look, it was hard to keep from blushing again.
He also didn't share any insight or explanation about how he thought that she was painfully gorgeous. Just a simple ‘yep’.
As Tarin said that one word, the song was starting to trail off. And Tarin was asking about another dance.
If someone had asked Lee four hours earlier that she would have been happily dancing, she would have been surprised. Even more so as she considered Tarin's request for another.
Lee knew that she could easily say no, that she was good, didn't want to dance any more and that Tarin would easily and without situation accept that.
But being here, in Tarin's arms like this, even though it was dancing, was actual nice.
”Alright,” Lee said as she moved her hand up from Tarin's shoulder to his cheek and stretched up to give him a quick kiss. ” One more.”
