The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Lee laid there in the bed and smiled slightly as Tarin talked about when him and his brothers were young. That had been getting easier for him recently, too. And he even talked just now about getting stuck in the feed bin casually.
That was a huge change from even a couple months ago, and Lee was so glad about that. Tarin hadn't thought that seeing Dr Rossi would have been of any use. And while Lee wasn't sure whether it would have any effect on potential future merges, it had been helping at least some with the claustrophobia.
"It definitely would have made life different," Lee said with a slight laugh. "Though that would partially depend on whether she was older, and by how much, or younger than you."
There was a very good reason why Lee was perfectly comfortable with Kevin spending a month in Texas without her during the summer. Because Lee knew that between Josh and Adele, Kevin would be watched carefully, but also kept out of as much trouble as possible. Though hearing stories, that bar was apparently set in a very different location than Lee kept it in New York.
"He does," Lee agreed with Tarin. "Even if life is incredibly different there than it is here. But that's also why I'm expecting Josh to have taught Kevin how to drive by the time he's able to get his licence."

Tarin had thought that she might have hit him that night? That obviously wouldn't…
Normally, that would never happen. But she had been very angry that night.
"Horrified?" Lee questioned. Tarin had said many times that him and his brothers had been 'feral'. Had it really been that bad?
"And I'm just realizing how glad I am that Robert and Doug aren't closer in age. And could be a very good thing for Kevin that I didn't go with him to Texas the last few years."
And though Tarin said that he wouldn't say her middle name, it sure looked like he was thinking about it pretty hard.
And Lee had been right, Tarin's middle name wasn't James. Yet another difference between the two men. Not that it had been very important. Really the only reason Lee had even known Kevin's father's middle name had been because of all of the immigration paperwork years earlier.
Both Tarins had middle names after their fathers, but the names were different.
That actually answered a lot of questions. "I like it,"

Lee nodded as Tarin explained why it had stuck in his mind that she'd been named Emily. She had already been angry at him right then, but then he'd gone on and used that name..
"Yeah, I probably over reacted a bit," Lee admitted a little sheepishly. "But to be fair, I was already mad with you that night."
And they'd called his brother 'Jimmy' purposely to upset him? At that Lee shook her head slightly. Apparently things were much different with multiple brothers like that.
It was only then that Lee realized she didn't actually know Tarin's middle name. She'd assumed that it was James, what with the TJ. But that didn't make a whole lot of sense considering his older brother was named James.
Only, before Lee was able to ask about that, Tarin was asking about her middle name. "Now that," Lee said somewhat jokingly. "I may have to kill you if you say it."
"It's Judith," Lee replied, then quickly continued. "But you? What does the 'J' stand for?"
Unlike a lot of things from when she was younger, Lee wasn't particularly sad or upset talking about this. About her name.
This was something she had come to terms with years earlier. Something that Lee had actually dealt with rather than just burying and moving past it.
Lee smiled slightly when Tarin kissed her on the forehead. "It's ok," Lee replied. "It was just a surprise when you asked. I'm honestly not sure when the last time someone actually asked me that was."
In fact, now that she thought about it, Lee wasn't sure that anyone had ever asked her directly why she hated the name Emily. Not that there were many people outside of family who even knew what her full, legal name was. As Kevin's father had told Robert, he only knew Lee, not an Emily. And Rupert…Well Rupert purposely used it at times to get under her skin.

Tarin was very right. The timing hadn't been right for something to actually happen between them that night after the hockey game, even if it almost had. Before the game, Lee hadn't even allowed herself to acknowledge that there might be feelings there.
If something had happened, if they had kissed that night, Lee would have panicked and run. She hadn't yet had the time to think and realized that not only were there feelings there for Tarin, but that she was ok with that.
"You're right," Lee said after a couple moments thought. "I'm not sure how things would have turned out. I just know that I almost didn't leave this room."
Other than the fact that Robert had been there the night that they were talking about, Tarin's question was about as unrelated as it could be. And unexpected.
Though maybe it was so unexpected because Lee honestly couldn't remember the last time she had been asked that question.
"No, I went by Emily when I was a kid," Lee eventually said slowly. "But with how they treated me…"
Lee paused and took a breath before continuing. "I'm not her anymore.I haven't been since before I left."

It was true that what was almost happening on the couch as the movie ended, what Robert had almost interrupted, was different than what had almost happened in Tarin's room later that night. But Lee was still convinced that they had almost had one of those moments they ended up having where they completely forgot the rest of the world even existed.
And while Lee was convinced that something would have happened, and the fact that something did happen between them just two days later, Lee blushed at the absolute certainty in Tarin's voice when he said that he'd known that he wanted more.
"I almost didn't leave your room," Lee whispered, shivering as Tarin's finger started moving along her arm again.
But then Tarin changed subjects, asking her if he could ask her a question. A slight crease formed between her brows as she looked at Tarin. Why would he think he couldn't ask, Lee wondered.
"Of course you can, Tarin," Lee said, still confused and curious. "What do you want to know?"

That was true, Tarin had never said his point would be profound. Or even just important. Simply that he had a point.
He was still smiling, though, which made it hard for Lee to do anything other than smile back. Even as she was telling him what she liked him doing even more than simply putting his hand into her hair.
Tarin was probably going to take massive advantage of that information, Lee was sure. But, like when her hand was in his hair, it would be very mutually beneficial so Lee couldn't take too much objection with it.
And while Lee hadn't blushed when she had spoken, she did when Tarin replied.
He'd always loved her hair. That night had been that first week. Lee hadn't even been allowing herself to consider that she might have had feelings for Tarin at that point.
"You did," Lee said softly in response to Tarin's comment that he'd fallen asleep with his arm across the back of the couch. "At some point it fell. Ended up around my shoulders. I think we were starting to have one of those moments when Robert interrupted us."
Lee shook her head though there was a smile on her face. If it hadn't been for her brother, they may have happened before the night at the bar.
"But what do you mean you 'didn't stand a chance'?"

Looking across the small distance between them on the bed, Tarin looked to be about as lost as she was in terms of what the point had been. The point that he had been trying to make to her.
And that hadn't been the point that he was trying to make. But rather than tell her what his point had been, Tarin ran his hands into his own hair this time.
Then he laughed. Lee shook her head as he spoke. "That's what your point was?" Lee questioned.
Taking a deep breath, Lee shook her head again. "I like it more if my hair's up and you take it down to put your hands in it," Lee admitted, her voice quiet.
Normally, she would have kept that to herself because…Well Lee wasn't exactly sure why, but she would have. Yet tonight it had come out, and she had said it without blushing.

As they laid there kissing, Tarin's hand in her hair as hers often was in his, Lee couldn't remember what they had previously been talking about. Not that it mattered now, and not that she cared. They were kissing and that was what was important.
But then Tarin pulled back as his hand moved out of her hair, back down to her arm. And for a moment, Lee just blinked at Tarin as his words very slowly made their way into her brain.
When they did, she laughed slightly, leaning in to give him a very quick, soft kiss. "Extremely distracting," Lee murmured as she pulled back.
For a moment, Lee was confused. What had they been talking about other than him being distracting? Though this all very much proved her point.
"Your point?" Lee asked. "You mean that you're distractible?"

A list of examples? What was it with lists today, Lee couldn't help but wonder. But did Tarin actually have a list that he could bring to mind? Right then?
When Lee leaned up to kiss Tarin, it lasted a bit longer than she had been expecting. But Lee was not complaining. Not at all. Lee couldn't even think of an example of when she would complain about kissing Tarin.
When Lee did finally break down and admit she knew exactly what she was doing, and did it to watch him squirm, Tarin grinned and Lee grinned in response. And he wasn't going to spoil her fun? Good, Lee didn't have any intention of stopping that. "Good," Lee said the thought out loud with a smile. That was very good.
Those thoughts died a moment later as Tarin's fingers moved from where they had been causing goosebumps on her arm, moving higher. Up her neck and across her cheek, causing a shiver to move through her entire body.
And into her hair, causing that shiver to turn into a stronger shudder.
New thoughts had not yet started to form in her mind before Tarin was leaning in to kiss her. Instead she simply moaned softly as she returned Tarin's kiss as an arm moved to wrap around him, pulling herself closer.

When Tarin pulled back, away from her a little, Lee lifted her head to be able to look up at him as well. And saw a smile on his face as he called her a liar.
"Liar?" Lee asked, the innocent tone still in her voice. "How can you say such a thing? I knew you liked me doing them, but I had no idea they did that much to do you."
Yeah, Lee may have overdid the innocent tone a bit.
Tarin continued looking at her, and Lee just looked back, trying to hold that innocence on her face. Thankfully, he sighed and spoke again fairly quickly, and Lee laughed before leaning in to kiss him.
"Good. I really don't want to stop," Lee admitted when she pulled back. "It's too much fun watching you squirm. Plus, it's always mutually beneficial."

Lee grinned as she heard Tarin speak as his arm tightened around her. Pressing her closer against his side. "Well of course you didn't know that, silly," she told him after a moment. "Most of the time, I'm able to hide how distracting you are."
Normally, the distraction Tarin caused her was nothing compared to how tonight had been, but it was still a distraction. She didn't even need to see him. Before he had even stepped foot into the apartment in the evening, Lee was paying attention to where he was from the moment that he could feel his energy. Aware of it and paying more attention than she typically did with others.
Lee watched as Tarin's hand gently closed on hers, their fingers entwining, and smiled as she saw and felt him kiss the back of her hand. An interesting problem. That was one way to describe it.
While Lee knew that her biting her lip or letting her fingers slip up into Tarin's hair while the kissed affected him, she would have had to be an idiot to have not realized that by now, apparently those affected him even more than she had thought. But she had definitely used both to her advantage before.
"I didn't realize they did that much to you," Lee said innocently, waiting to see Tarin's reaction. Even if she had no intention of doing what she was about to say. "I'll try not to do them anymore."

Kevin was embarrassed by her quite often, Lee thought. But tonight went beyond that normal level of embarrassment.
Tarin was also very right in that it had also been very funny. Not that that meant Lee wanted a repeat of what had happened earlier that night. At least not of anything before they had stepped foot through the bedroom door.
"Well see, there's the problem right there," Lee replied with a grin. There was really no point in denying it since it was the truth. ''You are distracting, whether you're trying to be or not. It's just normally I'm able to somewhat pay a bit of attention to my surroundings."
When she said that she was going to have to be careful about when she turned her siphoning off, Tarin laughed. And though that she was still referring to how Kevin had surprised them and been horrified.
"No, you're right, that should be good now," Lee said, then paused as she tried to figure out how to word this. While she thought, Lee reached a hand out to lightly touch Tarin's free hand.
"When I'm not siphoning, touching, and being touched, feels so…different," Lee softly explained as her fingers lightly traced along Tarin's. "And basically the only times recently that I'm not siphoning have been like this. I…I think my brain is starting to associate the two." Lee finished with a slight laugh.

Goosebumps were still trailing Tarin's fingers on her arm as his hand moved. It amazed her how such a simple thing, especially after everything else that they had done that night, could still produce this kind of reaction.
Tarin agreed that he hoped it would always be like this between them. Because he loved it. Lee smiled as Tarin kissed the side of her head, and she turned to kiss his throat a moment later.
"I love it too," Lee murmured against his skin. "Even if Kevin hates that it happens."
Even if it was inconvenient and inappropriate most of the time when it happened, Lee really did love it. It was always great with Tarin, but these times were just so much…more.
Lee closed her eyes and just lay there in silence for a few moments. "I may have to start being more careful about when I turn my siphoning off," Lee mused softly. "Especially if you're around but we can't do this."

Lee was laying with her head on Tarin's shoulder, a happy little smile on her face as she tried to catch her breath. That had been exactly what she had needed.
Was it everything that she wanted? Well, no. Lee pretty much always wanted that with Tarin. But it was enough. For now.
The apparent hypersensitivity from earlier was gone, but goosebumps still appeared on her arm following the path of Tarin's fingers.
When Tarin laughed softly then spoke, Lee smiled wider for a moment as she thought. It obviously wasn't 'always'. Most days, they were able to function as completely rational adults and were able to control themselves when needed. That wasn't to say things weren't great when they decided to be intimate, normally after they had already headed to bed.
No, That was still always amazing.
But months after that first night at the bar, months after that initial sexual tension and months after the 'newness' of the relationship should have passed, things like tonight were still happening.
"I sure hope it will be," Lee finally said in a whisper.
